AG Sessions, DNI Coats Jointly Announce Greater Prioritization and Resources for Leak Investigations; Promise Prosecutions

Words are not action, but I have a good feeling about Jeff Sessions.

The problem is: So many executive employees are leaking that any investigation will undoubtedly turn up friends of the investigators. And the investigators themselves may be leakers.

(Does anyone think the leaker James Comey was obeying the president's order to find the leakers?)

So, I don't know if you trust anyone currently in the government to aggressively investigate their John McCain-style Good Friends.

Still, worth the effort.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions and other top administration officials lashed out Friday against illegal leaks and issued a stern warning that offenders will be "held accountable," announcing new efforts to hunt them down.

"No government can be effective when its members cannot speak in confidence" with other government and foreign leaders, Sessions said, referring specifically to the bombshell leak a day earlier of President Trump's conversations with foreign leaders.

He said referrals of classified leaks from U.S. intelligence agencies have "exploded" this year.

"We are taking a stand," the attorney general said. "This culture of leaks must stop."

Session said criminals who have leaked classified information are "being investigated and will be prosecuted." He added that four people have already been charged with leaking classified material and related counts, and investigations have tripled.

Sessions repeatedly referred to "criminals" in discussing leaks.

He also said he'd be re-examining the guidelines for subpoenaing the media -- to make them give up their criminal sources.

I think the Washington Post's reporters who published the transcripts of Trump's phone calls will be the first test case for these subpoenas, and for subsequent incarceration for contempt of court when they refuse to comply. This happened with Judith Miller, after all, in a fairly trivial case.

I don't see how a judge can say that gratuitously leaking a transcript of a confidential phone call with a world leader- - which makes all other world leaders fear if they can speak to Trump and have their own words remain confidential -- is not a national security concern and then refuse to hit a non-complying reporter with time in jail until he divulges his sources.

Well, actually, I can see that, but given that judges do this a fair amount in less serious cases, the judge refusing to do that would essentially be announcing an insurrection.

The other outfit that needs to worry is the New York Times, which outrageously disclosed the name of the CIA's Iran team for no reason except #TheResistance.

Again, no judge can claim that did not jeopardize national security or expose intelligence operatives to risk.

After those two low-hanging fruit cases -- assuming judges do their duty and jail reporters until they divulge sources, and assuming subsequent prosecutions of the leakers -- there would be a very serious reconsideration among #TheResistance as to whether they really have the guts for full treason and insurrection, and really have the fortitude to bear the traitor's penalty.

12 I would think that finding out who leaked an entire transcribed phone conversation to the press should be relatively easy.

The problem is as ACE says the government is infested with deep state apparatchicks and fellow travelers that will simply refuse to work the angles and root these criminals out.

Bottom line is 90pct plus of fedGov needs to be turned out into the streets.

Every day that goes by we are finding out we are in deeper shit than we could have possibly managed.

14 The WaPo reporter who leaked Trump's phone transcripts was on Morning Joe today. No questions about why this was done, and isn't it criminal, and are you worried about you (or your sources) going to jail.

Psycho Joe did acknowledge that these leaks will have the effect that foreign leaders will be reluctant to pick up the phone to talk to Trump, which is presumably a bad thing.

So my question? Why wasn't this reporter arrested as he walked out the door?

The press has no more right than you or I to disseminate classified material.

Seriously, though, with simple methods - such as false messages - or multiple versions of the same "sure to be leaked" messages with with different coded statements in them (given to certain groups/persons at a time to narrow done the focus) and/or files with imbedded programs that track the files by IP and email - can be used to get to the bottom of this ~ and/or lead to taps and surveillance of people who can then lead to the bottom. A separate bureau within the DOJ (headed by Rudy? Tan, rested, ready) might be a good approach, too.

41 As inelegant as it may be, an accurate substitute for "leak" must be found.

The criminal nature of these acts, their impact on national security and power, must always be front and center.

"Leak" is a squishy, meaningless, semi-appealing term - it is used for incidents where, for example, a lower-ranking "whistleblower" reveals corruption or wrong-doing by higher-ups.

Language is key. But I doubt we'll see any effort at all to define the terms of this topic. Failing to do so has been a key aspect of the country's degradation and take-over by the dumbest and worst and least American people living here.

76 yeah, and ace, courts? Courts? Funny one!

Sure - the "judicial" system is now like a slot machine, spitting out results seemingly at random, so you never know if you are going to "win" or "lose".

But it's undone. Integrity is the most hard-won attribute of any system run by humans, and its loss the most disabling. Our "judicial" system is now effectively nothing more than unelected legislature, with no accountability, 100% a system of men, not laws.

And no, the daily production of normal workmanlike rulings and actions on sundry boring un-politicized topics does not disprove that. If land conveyance cases and other dull glorified clerk-work that makes up most of judicial activity had a political angle, you can be sure it would instantly look as ridiculous and brazenly lawless and Third World as the SCOTUS has been for some time, and its inferior courts too (bonus: the inferior courts now openly defy SCOTUS on huge matters, just betting they will get away with it - a whole new level of lawlessness that is actually sort of funny, as it confirms the SCOTUS's loss of credibility, stature, and integrity).

Oh - and the "coup" has already happened. When Trump shredded his oath to the constitution and complied with comically lawless lower court usurpation of his clear authority in the EO case, the deal was sealed. Just a question, day to day, of where and how the judiciary decides to exercise its now plenary authority to run the country.

119 Mueller's empanelling a grand jury is actually an obvious step in what he's doing, and by itself a nothing burger.

The core crime he's supposed to be investigating is who hacked the DNC? How can he not then investigate DWS and Awan, who had motive, access and opportunity?

Word is that Awan had all of DWS's passwords, including to the DNC, which DWS was running. And he was hacking anything he could. So he'd be a suspect, no?

Others at the DNC also had access.

Wikileaks Assange says the DNC leaks was an inside job.

If Mueller doesn't look into this, and just accepts the conclusion of the "17 agencies" -- which from an evidentiary standpoint is just hearsay -- he should be publicly pilloried.

Not one serious person on earth thinks that keeping a criminal employed is a good way to combat Islamophobia. Nor is it rational for anyone to think DWS actually did any such thing.

These liberal idiots are as dumb as a bag of hammers. They've been protected by media shills and the deep state for so long they have no concept of how easy it is for a real investigator to find evidence of your blatant wrongdoing. Unreal.

174 Comey "got out in front" of what should have been a prosecution of him for leaking. So the trial by (friendly) media instead discussed whether his private notes of conversations with Trump were just his personal memoirs, or state owned confidential documents.

But instead of prosecution, he got his special counsel with unlimited authority to bring in lefty hit men to take out Trump, under some vague idea of "but Russia". And all new revelations identify Deep State as the guilty party, but they are running the coup.

So Comey is writing a book and Susan Rice is friends with McMaster, who fires Trump people. The "tough talk" by Sessions means nothing if they won't prosecute Hillary/Comey ... known leakers and liars. They should have their own grand jury and a dozen subpoenas. But that is only happening with the Open Coup team of Mueller and his Hillary operatives.

They know what it happens, but they are going overboard to make absolutely sure no cattle are affected in the area. Mad Cow Disease is caused by eating brains of other cattle. So the theory is, all cattle in an area might have gotten that feed, so we'll make sure...

That train wreck is happening right now at this moment in Berkelel.

Extreme-left (they're Stalinists, actually, believe it or not) radio station KPFA invited atheist Richard Dawkins to give a talk at their fundraiser. They thought, "Atheist -- Christians hate him -- what's not to like?"

But then some of the younger KPFA staffers, saw what he has written about Islam -- which Dawkins hates as much as Christianity, if not moe -- and they flipped. Criticizing Islam is taboo in extreme-lefty-land!! So KPFA canceled his invitation.

Cue total meltdown and civil war on the Left in Berkeley. Half of them are arguing that he should be re-invited because atheism is the natural ally of communism, and he's one of the good guys in their estimation; half of them are savaging Dawkins as al alt-right Islamophobic white-privilege cisgender MAN oppressing the Noble Savages!

I suspect the Islam-submissive faction will win, and the torch will be passed to the new generation of Leftists in which actual communism takes a back seat to submission to Islam. Seriously.

277 41 As inelegant as it may be, an accurate substitute for "leak" must be found.

283 It's so nice you have a good feeling about Sessions, because flat out he hasn't done his job. His job is to defend the Constitution and take care to enforce the law. He simply refuses to do it.

Criminality and lawlessness abounds around him with this unconstitutional slow moving coup tying Trump into knots and Sessions does nothing, but protect the insiders.

The leaking of National Security info is serious business, but the wholesale slow moving coup but so, so much bigger with enormous consequences if he gets it wrong which it appears he is doing.

Where are the special counsels or the prosecutions? There is no indication that Sessions is going to do anything against the miscreants, even though he has taken an oath to defend the Constitution and should take care to enforce our laws.

In times like these you are either on the side of the Constitution and the Rule of Law or you are not. There is no middle ground where you can play nice and protect your friends.

What really appears to be happening is that Sessions is yet another one the political class's ciphers in Trump's cabinet helping the Washington political establishment shred the Constitution and make America into a Banana Republic wholly owned by it's political class. As such he should be fired immediately for such treasonous actions.
