I am getting old. My main machine I was sitting at got commandeered and I had to boot up this old clunker here. Damn network didn't seem to be working. So I figured it was some problem with Win 10, running on the other one. The default shares didn't connect and I figured it was something convoluted with Windows 10 networking and all the new shit.
So I screwed around wondering.
Turned out the damned network cable wasn't plugged in. I finally realized when a basic ping didn't work.....

So, minus the idiotic NPR-level mindset and lack of worldliness, a problem similar to that of most Obama-era people.
I can imagine this is a common problem with some of the Trump appointees, since this administration is - as people have been saying today - the first "independent" one in our history. So, lots of fresh faces, but a bit too fresh, in a "seasoning" sense.
Then again, you could have older, more experienced, and outlandishly unfit people, as under Obama (and before that, Clinton). Despite everything, I remain floored at a couple of very very very senior appointees of the last 8 years, having extensive direct personal knowledge of their capabilities.

I think the previous admin did everything it could to lay the groundwork to make exactly that, possible.
Question is, can the present admin now slam enough doors shut, quickly enough, to have a chance in the prevention of an occurrence?
In my perfect world, every member of the previous admin, really, with no exceptions whom I can think of, needs to be waterboarded to extract the full range of facts as to what they did, and with whom they did it, and further, to nail down to whom they passed critical information along.
Roll 'em all up, processes 'em and park 'em at Gitmo for however long.
And I'd suggest C-17 Globemasters for the Pinochet'ing of 'em, after.
Speed and range, get 'em all a couple thousand miles out over the Atlantic for the ceremonies. No need to sully our shores with the washing up of their bloated carcasses.

Bush got an A+ on building/maintaining - against all the gravity the world has to offer in terms of overcoming the behavior of irresponsible self-seeking players - a fairly effective sanctions/isolation regime against Iran. Recall sanctions are usually more valuable for their political impact and the way they organize a coalition than for their specific, material impact on a target. And he built on a base that included useful things done - hard to believe - in the Clinton years.
All that was literally just thrown away. Most potentially costly, 100% elective foreign policy blunder in our history. Was not a judgement call with competing considerations or inscrutable elements. Pure vandalism.
