Seven Ways Trump Is Taking Back America's Culture
Andrew Breitbart famously said, “Politics is downstream of culture,” and while establishment Republicans seem unwilling to defend America’s culture and values on many fronts, President Donald Trump is already changing the country’s politics by taking back its culture from progressives.

It's a start, but until we claw back academia from the progressive scum that have infiltrated it from top to bottom we have a long and arduous road ahead of us.

Restaurant Union Member: 'Tipping is a Horrific Legacy from the Days of Slavery'
That is a great quotation. It means absolutely nothing, is historically inaccurate, and is like a flashing light on her head warning others of her blinding stupidity.
Trupti Patel, a member of ROC United who spoke at the press conference, said she’s heard many “horror stories” of sexual harassment from her fellow restaurant workers who keep quiet over fear of losing their jobs. She argued that restaurant servers should not have to rely on tips to earn a living wage.

“Tipping is a horrific legacy from the days of slavery. I know this nation is better than that. Why would we want to uphold something like that? So when you want to pay somebody $2.13 per hour, you still want to encourage all those bad mindsets,” she said.

Mary Campbell works in food service at the Pentagon and uses food stamps, Medicaid and section 8 housing assistance. Campbell said she earns $9.08 per hour and does not receive health benefits.

The last time I checked, slavery was involuntary. Is there anyone here familiar with the coercion used by restaurants (and the Pentagon!) to keep these people from leaving those jobs and looking for other, better paying jobs?

Misanthropic Humanitarian is otherwise engaged, thus the ONTbyDildoTM last night and tonight. For a peek behind the curtain of the complex machinery that keeps AoSHQ running like a top, it's a fair amount of work to produce an ONT, even a slim one such as this evening's, and I am in awe of folks like Maetenloch and CDR M and Misanthropic Humanitarian who did it or do it more than once each week and don't bore us into comas.

17 For what it's worth, I do know a number of people who work in restaurants. To a man, they prefer the whole tipping thing because they can make a LOT of money that way. One friend is a server at a relatively high end restaurant in DC and he makes a fair amount of money despite his slavery-level hourly wage.

I'd hazard a guess that Trupti Patel has some issues that are clouding her judgement and ability to perform in this industry.

144 I know a woman whose daughter dropped out of college because of the amount of money she made as a server in an upscale restaurant.

It's a good living, where by and large one's earnings are very directly tied to one's work ethic.

My friend started out trying to get into PR (in DC, go figure) but he found he hated it. He did like the wining and dining part of PR though, so that's how he got started. Eventually he found himself working at Citronelle where he ended up earning a reputation as a really solid and dependable worker who could relax patrons and get them in a spending mood. Those kinds of people are highly in demand in the restaurant industry. He left Citronelle before it closed but never had a problem finding a job pretty much anywhere in town.

What's really incredible to me is that the Left really tends to look down on guys like him, thinking he's "just a waiter." He isn't "just" anything.

Yes. Santa Barbara comes down your chimney and takes half of your bank account balance to pay for an "urgently needed" desalination plant.

Then, Santa Barbara sells off all the equipment from the plant at pennies on the dollar to shadowy unidentified bidders, when it turns out to not be so urgently needed as first thought.

Then when it is revealed again to be urgently needed, Santa Barbara comes down your chimney a second time to take the rest of your money to put the plant back in service.

231 I don't know about anyone else here, but I love tipping. I kick out a few extra dollars, and that waiter/waitress is genuinely happy to see me again when I come back. Word gets around the staff as I frequent a place, and everyone's happy to see me, every time.

And when I say "a few dollars", I mean literally just a few dollars. Two or three bucks would be an adequate tip for my typical solo sit-down restaurant check, but I'll drop five or six.

I don't think this is a waste of money at all, nor am I just being overly charitable; for such a small expenditure, I get to feel special when I return to that place. That is well worth the extra $3 or so, to me.

273 As long as we're talking dreams, here's the one I had last night.

I was at an airport, observing a machine that was going to be used as a special effect in a movie. It was a gigantic mechanical bear that looked like it was made of ice.

Two pilots rode in the head, using the eyes for windshields. There was a large propeller-driven engine mounted on the back.

As the engine warmed up, the head shook back and forth, like a dog shaking himself dry. Then as it got up to speed, the bear started rotating on the ground, and the jaw opened and closed every so often. It rotated back and forth, forth and back, faster and faster.

The guy next to me was in communication with the pilots, and he started saying, "Ok, stop the engine." "Cut the engine." But the pilots wanted to put the machine through its paces and ignored him.

Then all of a sudden the engine rotated to vertical and the bear lifted into the air like a helicopter. It wasn't supposed to go airborne, and the pilots cut the engine immediately. It dropped to the ground, hit hard, and the engine and rotor collapsed. Black smoke surrounded it and the guy next to me said, "This is bad." Then I saw orange flames appear though the smoke.

My dreams are nothing if not entertaining.

309 Ok, I had one of my wilder dreams in a while a couple nights ago. I think the inspiration was mostly because I was watching some Star Trek TOS, and just before I went to bed the Star Trek Nazi episode came on. (which is NOT one of the better ones)

So in my dream I was in some large auditorium, and I was in some civic group doing community theatre, a double bill that night. During the first show I was milling around back stage, not really sure what I was supposed to do. And then they said the Second Show had started, and this time it was a musical comedy about Nazi's, kind of like Springtime for Hitler but with more updated music. (I do score my dreams with original music from time to time) So I looked and saw I was wearing a brownshirt Nazi uniform, with the armband, and they said "it's the 3rd number! You're on! " And I said "But I don't know it, what is it?" And they laughed and said "come on, you're the lead!!!" and they handed me a copy of the music and shoved me on stage and the curtain came up - there I was, on stage in a Nazi Uniform in front of an entire auditorium waiting to here me sing.

I think I kind of managed to stumble through it, because at least the back up singers were kind of good.

Yes. HEMA started as a mixture of martial artists who were history geeks, SCA fighters looking for sources to improve their fighting and make it more historically accurate, and people who just wanted to hit each other with swords without all the SCA or LARPing stuff.

We're like weird cousins who aren't sure if we like or hate each other.

Each sex has its own characteristic weaknesses. The trick is to recognize them so that you can control them.

Men who nurture successful relationships develop the power of apologizing profusely and convincingly, even though in their heads all they are hearing is "blah blah blah I'm mad blah". I've not heard of that place in decades. Just Damn! /acidman/dax montana

I moved away from San Antonio back in '99, coming down to Kemah on Galveston Bay.

Jim's Restaurants were a common venue then, and still are. For my money, one of the finest breakfast tacos in town. And in a +60% Hispanic town, that's quite a claim.

I can't hardly stand visiting San Antonio anymore. So very overbuilt, overtrafficed, overcrowded.

Remember when Helotes was the start of the Hill Country? And an early Sunday morning motorcycle ride up S.H. 16 to the Old Spanish Trail restaurant in Bandera, was a thing!?

Better days, those. Better days.

I pains me to visit, now. It's really not "San Antonio" anymore. It's just another Texas Metropolis, with a shallow, narrow but pretty, landscaped ditch lined with overpriced restaurants.

At least Galveston can't really "grow" in terms of sprawl. 'Cause buildings can't swim.

Yeah. Lots of potassium in bananas.
But then, some say magnesium.
Or zinc. Pickle juice.
And Hammer says quinine.

So maybe a smoothie made out of bananas, milk of magnesia, pickle juice, and tonic would work.

I have more news to report.

After today's "Oh God, I don't have the patience to fill out 92 page job applications that want the number of credits you earned in college, eff it, I'm going to be poor," something happened.

Outside of saying "eff it all, I'm making cookies." Which I did.

I got an email. From a possible freelance client.

Positive: He wants to talk next week.

Negative: OMG. The guy is an computer genius and used to work in R D at Sony Computer Entertainment. Now he has his own firm, which has rocketed to the top of it's field. I talk to a lot of people who are really talented, but typically I talk to "creative genius" as opposed to "technical computer genius."

Postive: I have an OK understanding of what his firm does, and know many of his end users, as well as some people he's collaborated with on projects in the past.

Negative: My computer is a giant typwriter that I also use to look at cat videos.

Positive: My last horrible relationship was with a commitment phobic narcissist who pretended he was bipolar who was actually a computer genius in his own right. You know... maybe I shouldn't freak out over this.

Broccoli has several times the Potassium of Bananas.

Just don't cook the broccoli to death. DO THOUGH, give it a wee sprinkling of black pepper, and cook in a bath of very buttery water.

If you do happen to cook it down into mush, just let the cooking water cool, and drink it straight down.

It's tasty, and that's where all the nutrients will have found as their new home. Till they find their home in your bellah!

I didn't know about domain names yet, so all of my employees (when I got to that stage) would be qdp-something. qdpamy, qdpjames, etc etc.

In the meantime though, I've found it can stand for a lot of other fun things.

I've also noticed that if you draw a very basic lower-case q, d, and p on a sheet of paper... it kind of looks like a face. :-)

So that's why I like to stick with the QDP moniker.

Recently, my circumstances have changed, and I had to look for a more... mass-market food to give them. I decided to give the Pure Balance brand a try, specifically their Wild and Free blend. It seemed healthier than most other brands at my local big-box store. Whole turkey is the first ingredient on the list.

My cats are just absolutely nuts for it! They were crowding around me as I was putting it in their feeder, and they just dove right in the instant I put it on the floor. They love it!

And it's definitely healthier than, say, Meow Mix. Neither one of them has vomited since I started them on this new brand a couple of days ago, so that's a definite improvement over what I was feeding them before.

Thank you tbodie.

I love writing, and have always had the ability to do so. It's my gift from God, and I'm trying to make use of it.

It's been a rough day, and when I got the email from the potential client, I went into shock. I talk to a lot of very talented people but not typically coders. Then I remembered something: last actual relationship I had (which was really awful) was with a software developer who really, really envied my creative abilities. That made me think that perhaps I'll have complimentary talents in regards to what this guy needs for his firm.

Best part? He used to have an alternate identity in the demoscene, and he's done quite a few videos, so I can prepare some for our chat next week.

Worst part? He's about 15 years younger than me. But I look good for my age, LOL.

489 Alex still here? Just curious why Portland would be a draw vs. Santa Barbara - if that is the sort of comparison he had in mind. Portland's not horrible, but weather + moonbats + weather + ????? sort of makes it hard to see how it would be preferable.
Posted by: rhomboid at August 01, 2017 12:19 AM (QDnY+)

I don't mind the weather. Portland has:

1) Family
2) My interests (fencing, dancing, art)
3) Lots of young women who share those interests.

Santa Barbara has only some of #2, and the cost of living is insane.

The other night, I counted fifty well-timed seconds between a flash, and the thunder. So, probably ten miles away. I suppose people out on the plains see/hear stuff much further away.

Actually, I see lightening (not streaks, but illumination, without thunder) almost every night, but it rarely becomes a storm here.

Why don't you guys sign up for an Area 51 tour. I think there's a tour that will take you to the famous sign, and you can see the "cammo dudes" who guard the place.

Back in the '90s, I think, at the height of all the Area 51 hoopla in the UFO kook Kommunity, there was some guy, who was desert rat type and knew the area. His shtick was to mess with the cammo dudes. He'd get as close as could and try to bait them to come out and try to scare him. He'd then take their pictures and post it.

Apparently, if they were identified publicly, they'd get in trouble and get fired.

Put "Area 51 Google maps" in Google and you can see where it is. It's a YUGE complex. Well, the whole base. "Area 51" (whether it was ever really called that, who knows) was some sub location.

Jonathan Turley, actually was able to force the US govt. to admit the base existed. It was in some law suit, and he found some legal catch-22 that forced the govt. to admit it existed in order to exempt it from some regulation. So, Bill Clinton had to sign something to do so. Look it up.

The law suit was actually something serious. Former workers worked with a lot of very toxic shit and it was something related to that. The govt's position was "well, that never existed, so you have no case"...

With Google Maps, you can see a lot of shit at that base. What's it called, Groom Lake? Anyway, I think "Area 51" is actually marked on Google and you can zoom in and look.

IIRC, the Russians released the first public satellite images of the place back in the late 90s. It was before Google Earth and all that.

The conspiracy types are always finding "censored" sat images in Google Earth. Sometimes they just "white out" areas, and sometimes they actually put fake data in to try to make it look normal. But you can see evidence of tampering if you look good.

I mean really dig into the data and you'll see stuff that indicates a cut and paste.

642 While y'all's are in Vegas, you can actually see from whence the Area 51 workforce commute. While you're at McCarran, follow the discreet signs towards the "JANET Terminal".

You won't get past the checkpoints, but you'll see a couple of beat-up old 737s without tail numbers waiting out on the tarmac. (No, the ordinary Area 51 worker bees don't fly in and out on alien saucers.) Leaving in the morning and coming back in the evening.

Not making this up.

647 642: I remember reading about that years ago. They had pictures of the those 737s and everything.

Years ago, there used to be some "lookout point" that was not owned by the govt, and you could go there and see a lot of the goings on. Weird shit and a "light show". There's footage of some of it, probably still on the web somewhere.

ANyway, they finally just buttoned that up by seizing the land. When it comes to NAtional Security, land seizure is nothing. Draconian, and since it's National Security, you can't complain publicly.

What they do there, who really knows, but that is where all the cutting edge black technology is put together and tested. I think the stealth fighters were tested there.

Trying to sneak on that land is a very bad idea. You'll get in a whole lot of trouble. They delight in scaring the shit out of people dumb enough to try.

You can get close, but once you set foot on the actually property of the base, your ass is grass.

They have got some hellaciously sophisticated sensors on the perimeter of that base to detect any humans trying to get on it.

You'd think that would be ideal to put on the Southern border. Maybe they don't want to disclose it. Or it doesn't scale well....probably so damn expensive, you wouldn't believe it.

It's been years since I was reading about this stuff, but, all you had to do was get close to the line, and then there would be "cammo dudes" in jeeps or humvees or whatever showing up.

We're watching you, was the message. Now set foot on it, and the cammo dudes then detain you.

If I remember, if it was just idiot, they'd scare the absolute shit of him, then turn him over the local LEOs.

If they thought the tresspasser was something serious, like a Russian spy or something, I'm sure the disposition would be very different.

Most of the really interesting shit is probably underground. All the conspiracy types spin some tales about just how big a facility that is underground.

658 I suspect that a whole lot of what goes on at Area 51 is a bunch of otherwise ordinary maintainers, with very expensive clearances, sweating and cursing in the central Nevada heat, over the one and only XFV-253 hypersonic ultramaneuverable stealth attack jet prototype, which is broke-dick with a leaking engine oil seal, and an on site Air Force general with chief-of-staff ambitions breathing fire down their necks to get it fixed already.

Or it could just be alien antigravity saucers.

They want to let in illegals and terrorists to kill you, they want to euthanize you in the hospitals ... but they love you.

They love you, and the need money. They always need more money! They are the most virtuous, clever people on the planet, but somehow ... just can't handle money.

But the so-called soda tax applies to much more than just pop. Any
nonalcoholic beverage that's either sugar- or artificially sweetened

sweetened coffees and teas, sports and energy drinks, and juice products
that aren't 100 percent fruit or vegetable juice, among other

The next Eric Garner will be killed in Chicago by cops, for selling loosie sodas from the 'burbs. They create these arbitrage opportunities, and then don't let people benefit from them.

Are ebt cards subject to this tax? I have no clue but I don't think the city can override ebt regs to collect this tax via the card.

As a former convenience store manager (during the dark times of the Obama years), all I can say is that if the average American had any clue how much EBT fraud was going on, they'd burn the whole country down.

I've seen lawn crews come in, and the crew boss buys everyone snacks and food on EBT. I've seen families that I know made far more than I did come in and buy $70 dollars worth of junk food. It's
