Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg"So I'm watching CNN the other day (stop laughing) and they show a bunch of anti-Trump protestors marching around and waving signs, and it's obvious that the signs all have the same slogan and all look to be professionally printed. Why does it never occur to any of CNN's crack journalists to ask one of the protestors where did they get their signs from, and who printed them? Or, how about: did you ride to the protest on one of those buses over there, and where did the buses come from and who paid for them? These seem to be simple, basic, Journalism 101 questions that they ought to be asking right out of the gate, but never do. Sigh. Nobody listens to a gorilla."

Below the fold, why Britain is doomed:

Also, just a reminder, in case you need one, that progressives will never stop trying to separate you from your life, liberty, and property:

100 per cent inheritance tax.jpg

62 It's weird how we have all these great ideas, like universal healthcare, $15-20 minimum wage, 100% inheritance tax, free college, etc, which we're assured will bring incredible wealth, and yet our most liberal states, like California, refuse to enact them to reap the benefits and prove the point.

Instead, they seem to insist on implementing everything nationally, were cost overruns are more easily ignored, and flight of the affected citizens is more difficult. It's a real puzzler.

Think it involved Lileks telling him that the dang porch the lad was standing on was built with a Bush tax rebate and take a hike.

They took one class in agitation, or communist history taught from the communist perspective (but since it's university, I repeat myself) and then think they have the authority to tell everyone what to do. I appreciate the new information age, but sometimes, it gives people a voice who really should have chronic laryngitis.

And I love my dog, and don't want him to suffer, but thanks to Obamacare, the cost for treatment has skyrocketed. That tax on medical equipment and procedures? Yeah, it hit the vet clinics too.

116 I'd never been to Washington until I was in my 40s, so I was able to look at it with perhaps less awe and more of a realist's eye. I was there the day after John Roberts was announced as Bush's CJ pick. Driving past the Supreme Court, I saw a group of protesters, maybe 8 or 9 people, holding up their signs. It looked rather pathetic.
Then, that night on the national news, I heard about all of the "opposition" to Roberts, and saw that same group of protesters. Except the camera angle was from inside the group, concentrating on a couple of the faces and what they were saying, never giving a wide shot that would show the whole scene, and the relative insignificance of this group. And so according to the national network that was covering this, the insane ramblings of 8 or 9 malcontents should determine the workings of a government that supposedly represents 320 million people.
If I don't see a wide shot, I pay zero attention to the protest.

117 More from Wilkinson:

"It's ridiculous I feel actually grateful to people like @BDSixsmith and @bswud for managing to write responses without being misogynistic"

"This is what drives me mad. I like being challenged! I like floating ideas and reading responses and thinking and learning! I think other people like reading things that make them consider things in new ways & that's why the Guardian runs stuff like the Utopian Thinking section"

"I don't care about people disagreeing, point of writing opinion is to provoke conversation & I enjoy debating stuff. I'm drawing attention to how fucked up it is some men reach for threats and dehumanising language if a woman challenges their world view."

"I don't know if that's a recent thing, but I do know loads of male thinkers questioned inheritance in the past-seemingly without this stuff. Inheritance does seem to get people particularly riled, but it's not normal or ok to respond to an argument you hate the way some have done. I mean, this sort of stuff is common online. I don't know how these men behave irl-maybe they keep their misogyny bottled up and seem normal. If I was bothered by people simply disagreeing, I wouldn't write opinion for a job and also waste tons of time debating stuff on twitter."

"(Past 24 hours a good example of why I got mad at men suddenly discovering online misogyny and claiming it's only a leftwing thing, btw). "

189 Abi? Hi. Let's have a brief discussion about incentives. Let's say I have done well financially and have children. Now, let's say I leave that money to my offspring when I join the choir eternal. Let's say further that the government gets may 35 percent of what I leave behind and my heirs get the rest. Thus, my heirs get something that they can spend in a taxable way that promotes jobs and growth and the government gets their cut. Pretty good, eh?

Now let's say we do it your way. You know what I do before I shuffle off this mortal coil? I HAVE A BIG FREAKIN' ORGY. That's right, I spend off every last dime, or give it away, or squander it in some other fashion. Thus, the government gets dick, my heirs get bupkus, and nobody benefits but the whores who attended my sendoff. Whores like you, dear. Are we clear now?

252 The silly thing about a high inheritance tax is that anyone who can afford a decent estate lawyer can find a dozen ways to make sure the family pays zero. It's not hard at all - so the only people who get caught up in it are people like farm owners who own a lot of land and look rich on paper, but who have no free cash to spend on legal assistance.

Foundations, a hundred kinds of trusts, co-ownership, gifting while still alive, offshoring - those are just some of the obvious ways, there are many more.

And they will NEVER be made against the law, because this is how the people who write the laws GUARANTEE that they will personally never pay this tax. (and none of their top donors will pay it, either.)

269 I see Kat Timpf cancelled a speech she was going to give in Brooklyn after some pussy "male" SJW dumped a liter of water on her and fled.

I know it's easy for me to say, but I can't help thinking Timpf is a bit of a wuss herself. I can understand being shaken up - but it was friggin' water, not acid. She wasn't beaten up. Why not give the speech as a big f you? Because her hair and makeup were wrecked? Go into the ladies room, fix yourself up and go on out there and make a joke about the coward. That's what Coulter would have done.

It annoys me that the Leftist won the battle. But then I find Timpf annoying even when she says something sensible. It's the Valley Girl/millennial fry voice that irritates me.

Right, and at the end of her op-ed she admits that her intention is to normalize the idea of 100% inheritance by floating it in the first place.

This is Lefty activism 101, and no claims of innocent "just asking the question!" will hide that. She claims it's oversensitive men commenting --- when she's the one who's all, "Hey, wouldn't it be great if the state just came and took all the stuff you've earned over a lifetime to pay for low-income housing?!?" If you *don't* react forcefully you encourage the Alis of the world to keep pushing.

The time before death that this will apply to will slowly increase from 1 year to 10 - 20 or a lifetime ban on any transfers of wealth to anyone from anyone in order to make sure the State gets their cut.

They will simply follow the model used for Medicaid for the elderly in nursing homes where the look back for any wealth transfers has increased over time.

We used to be a nation where families worked over generations to improve the financial conditions of each generation so that that after 2 - 3 - or 4 generations real wealth is achieved. This has become harder and harder due to government policies, taxes etc. Sad.

Conversely, the cash grabbers schemes would work fine on the cognitively disenfranchised, but ... sadly ... they're broke.

409 Goering was a charming egomaniac-sociopath-psycho. Hanging his corpse means Goering won the death contest just as exhuming Oliver Cromwell's corpse and beheading it means Cromwell won a successful-ruler-contest but lost on the inheritance issue. (ie corpse defilement as a political act to appease the hoi polloi, eg they peed on the corpse of the British commander at King's Mountain and took his silver whistle) Goering charmed (bribed?) one of his jailers to allow him access to a poison pill. The difference between Goering and Bill Clinton is that Goering was a warrior and had (millions?) more people kill by his lieutenants than Clinton has. Clinton hasn't killed anyone personally as far as I know. How many did Clinton have killed in the aspirin factory?
