This is Claude's impression of a bridge over the Tiberius River in Baghdad. Those yellow things on the bridge are APCs and the rubber boats on the water are Navy Seals doing a covert river crossing.

At least that is my impress of Claude's impression. But then I've been up all night and might be hallucinating.

Also a bittersweet 1940 movie with Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor as star-crossed lovers. A definite three-hanky weeper.

I'm sure there's some psychological significance to a desire to look at paintings of bridges. Perhaps the open, even beckoning array of large openings, signifying female genitalia. A desire to return to the womb.

43 The discussion of the alliance between Islam and the Left came up again in the last thread, and I thought I'd just add my pet theory to it.

Just about every rational explanation to trying to figure it out fails. Islam will obviously swallow the Left whole. How do they intend to profit from it? What's their angle?

My theory is that they intend to promote the Iranian version of Islam until it becomes the dominant form, which is why they're backing the Iranians, Muslim Brotherhood, "moderate Syrian rebels", and Palestine - all of them have significant Iranian connections, and you don't see that level of enthusiasm for Saudi Arabia (which they openly hate), or more rational nations like Egypt or Jordan.

The Iranian form of Islam is an apocalypse cult writ large, which says that if they do certain things (like nuke Israel), the 12th Mahdi will arrive with the latest revelation, and lead them to world conquest.

If they make Iranian Islam the default version, create the apocalypse, and no 12th Mahdi arrives, they will have over a billion people in a crisis of faith that they can preach their own death cult to (IE, the kind that comes with single-payer healthcare, star chambers, and gulags).

The other variant is that they intend to supply their own 12th Mahdi, and supply their own ideology as the "great revelation". Either way, their madness now seems like a calculated gamble to acquire the manpower to force their globalist ambitions home, in the form of 1.5 billion potential recruits.

Posted by: Cato the Rebel Without a Party at July 25, 2017 09:33 AM (X52ZZ)

44 I like Renoir.

i don't know if I like Van Gogh. it is hard to separate his art from what i know of his madness. if he had been a success in finance and married some pretty rich baroness, and lived out his days in a country villa, would he still remember him?

of course Salieri died in a nuthouse too and these days people only look for his (actually good) compositions after watching Amadeus.

"

Yes, they are - but what they don't grasp is that the Sunni-Shiite conflict has been going on for at least 1200 years, and is actually getting hotter now than it has been for a very long time.

The most likely effect of emboldening the Iranians will be the final, full kick-off of a modern version of the 30 years war, with the likely result that 30% - 50% of the Islamic population in the middle east will die while that war is waged.

If Iran does get nuclear missiles, the first city hit won't be Jerusalem - it will be Riyadh, and maybe even Mecca.

The Persians have only hated the US for about 70 years now. They've hated the Jews for about 1400 years.

They've hated the Arabs for 3,000 years and counting. That's why "one" version of Islam can never be dominant.

I misspoke about the Muslim Brotherhood. Sorry, it's rather late in my day.

The Muslim Brotherhood's use to them is in destabilizing the actually more moderate Islamic nations (such as Egypt), which weakens them with civil war and sectarian squabbling while Iran (their chosen overlord) continues furthering its imperial ambitions.

Just about every rational explanation to trying to figure it out fails. Islam will obviously swallow the Left whole. How do they intend to profit from it? What's their angle?

I have not read the other threads this morning. My view is that the left/demonazis, like the iranian muzzies, are of the belief that the current way things are can not continue. In order to form their version of utopia the old/current way must be completely destroyed in order to be remade "correctly." Both understand that half or more of the current population must die. I4 in Central Florida. The words "congested clusterfuck" do not do it justice.

Have to drive all the way through Orlando to get to something on the other side? It's always under construction, and there's only one through-lane, everything else is always diving off in one direction or another to the tourist traps or shopping districts. Which lane is the through lane isn't even consistent from exit to exit, so prepare for lots of lane changes in a tightly packed highway environment full of the world's worst drivers.

How bad? Most of the drivers are probably "medicated" in some way shape or form, legally, by shady "pain management" doctors, with club drugs, pot, or just plain booze. The rest are just assholes who will happily kill you to get where they're going .2 seconds faster. There's also high odds that, in addition to all of the above, they're international tourists who are still following the laws of their native countries rather than American traffic laws.

So, you're finally through Orlando? Watch out for the superfog (the unholy offspring of smoke and fog) that's a frequent occurrence thanks to all of the damned swamp fires, or the possibility that a sinkhole might suddenly swallow a portion of the road.

The Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel has some sort of rest stop about halfway across. Now the entire bridge/tunnel system is like 20 plus miles long and it's probably a little longer than half an hour to cross. It seems like every-single-solitary car stops at the rest stop.

It's *that* freaking exhausting.

But an incredible view of Chesapeake Bay. But I'd rather be in a boat, on the water than up on that bridge.

350 Most frightening bridge. I80 connecting San Francisco to Oakland. Double decker bridge that pancaked in the 1989 Lima Prieta. Since 1989, I've driven over/under on that bridge and have turned blue holding my breath until off it.

The bridge didn't pancake, that was a chunk of I-880 (AKA CA-17) that hadn't been retrofitted for earthquake resistance.

The bridge did have one section where the top deck came apart and swung down to the lower deck, which is bad enough. Also, I thought the eastern span of the bridge, where that happened, had been replaced?

The Tesla CEO has also advocated a policy of universal basic income to protect people from the fallout of AI disruption.

Jordan executed 15 people this year, after lifting an 8 year moratorium on the death penalty. Jordan wants to present itself as progressive, but a recent poll showed 81 % of the population approves of the death penalty.

The govt. decided to lift the moratorium in these cases because of the rise in violent crime in Jordan and the concern that retaliatory killings (kind of an Islamic custom) might begin if the govt. didn't execute the worst criminals.

Yeah. I've had various tread patterns over the years, but they all 'wander' when on steel grating. The sensation is that you have a flat-ish tire, and absolute steering control is lost.

Late in the Dubya Bush years. Remember when the left had conniptions about "Republican budget cuts" leading to a lack of maintenance and then to the bridge falling down?

And how it then turned out the bridge had irremediable long term defects in its initial construction which couldn't have been papered over by any amount of maintenance money?

And how the original construction, with federal money and federal oversight, was back during the Lyndon Johnson presidency?

Yeah, for some reason, the left got awfully quiet about that bridge.

I keep waiting to see this, but it never seems to happen. Nobody on the left wants to call out Linda Sarsour on her religion's views on homo. They appear to be doing a good job closing their eyes and pretending.

Shows me how weak, cowardly, and Beta the Left truly is... for all their bluster and mob courage, they are soft, soft, soft.

426 That's why the Highspeed rail will be a sight to
behold....Billions spend and not a mile yet with actual rail on it. Lots
of new bridges though. I read the news about it weekly, and its still
chugging along.

The sad part of this is that high speed rail actually makes sense on that route. But they are not actually building a "normal" high speed rail line. Looking at the current map on their website they have 14 (!!!) stops on the main line plus another on a short spur. (It's a commuter rail line.) They are idiots.

436 418 Or the Left embraces and protects Islam because it believes the enemy of its enemy is its friend.

When they do, they lose the entire

LBGQTYLSDAQWERTY faction. They either walk, or get thrown off.

And again, even the LGBT etc. want the Muslims to eliminate Christianity for them, and they're too nihilistic to care about what comes next.

437 I have often thought the the Chesapeake Bay Bridge area would be a good place to set a survivalist novel. Just far enough away from DC and Norfolk that it might survive the cataclysm and with fish and wildlife preserves for the survivors to live on.

In case you're wondering, we--you and me and those who believe as we do--are the enemy in that scenario.

There is another option, of course...that a significant core of Leftroid "leadership" may have converted.

=================I never knew Michigan had an upper peninsula till about maybe 5 years ago. In my whole life, school, college, work etc., every single effing goddam visual reference of Michigan just showed the wang, not the UP. I assumed that was part of Wisconsin.
