Re: The anti-pet sitting law. I'm going to make some assumptions here. Rover and similar "Uber for pet sitting" apps are tech startups being run by the kinds of people who run tech startups by which I mean people whose politics are generally on the Left. You know, people who love them some regulations and government control and back me a cake, bitch. Yet none of them appear to care a single solitary whit about seeing if their service complies with local laws or, for that matter, complying with those laws when informed it's a violation. Then? Then it's suddenly omg this law is so stupid and infringes on my rights and what I want to do!
Funny. That. Here's the thing. I can see there being some type of law that says when you grow over a certain number of pets for which you are caring, you are no longer a person providing low level or intermittent pet watching services but rather you are running a kennel and will be treated as such. That number is substantially higher than one. Posted by: alexthechick - happy happy manatees at July 21, 2017 07:18 AM (dEQP3) 38

It should source a thread later in the day, so you might want to check out the morning Wall Street, in which Church of England lector Dorothy Rabinowitz ascends the high and narrow pulpit, opens the Old Testament, and rains down God's own natural lightning on Dunkirk director Christopher Nolan, who, in the interest of "maintaining relevance" and "not dragging in politics," made a movie about well Dunkirk without mentioning WinstonfuckinChurchill. Posted by: Stringer Davis at July 21, 2017 07:59 AM (H5rtT) -------------Oh, great. I reeallly want to see the movie, but omitting Churchill is absurd. I was very suspicious when the movie was met with such acclaim by the critics. I'll still see the movie, though, because aircraft and pissed off SJW's. "171 >>> If you have ever seen a red Squirrel, they can beat the shit out of most other squirrels."
I've got a big pecan tree in my back yard, and a whole tribe of red squirrels call that home. I have a bird feeder hanging under it from a 25 foot rope off one of the higher branches. I had to go to great lengths to put a conical squirrel deflector about a foot over the top of it, since a couple of the red squirrels actually figured out how to shinny down the 25 foot rope and clean out the seed in that feeder as soon as I was putting it in. Damn little acrobats, they are. Posted by: Tom Servo at July 21, 2017 08:32 AM (V2Yro) 194

(Just kidding) I don't think sociopaths really admit to that. they just think they're more clever than anyone else and entitled to do whatever they want and can be utterly charming when they need to be. Also, as if in answer to "all those" film reviewers who commented on the lack of females and persons of colour in Dunkirk, Rabinowitz, in an apparent first in the reviewer community, notices that there's no Germans in it, neither.

"The idea is that, so long as the person is intelligent and controlled enough to keep their more self destructive urges in check,
Yeah. Like serial killing..." A) That's technically psychopathic, not sociopathic. B) It's only "self" destructive if they get caught. Having said that, most people in just about any jail today will also qualify as either sociopaths or psychopaths - they disregard most norms of society, which in today's world means they fall into alcohol and drug use pretty quickly, and once someone's on that road it's very hard to get off. The theory is that most of us are in that Bell Curve of normalized behavior and ability, but the sociopaths make up the bulk of those who are both far below average ability and those who are far above. RE: visiting London; I was very fortunate to have been able to go there a year ago. I only had one free day and a couple free nights. One evening, just as the sun set, I rode the "Eye", and that is an absolutely gorgeous sight to see the city laid out beneath you, Westminster just across the river. A bit pricy, but worth it.
Since I only had one free day, I had a very hard choice - and instead of the War Rooms, I chose The Tower, and I do not regret it! 1,000 years of continuous history packed into that one spot, no wonder the English can get casual about the stuff they have laying around. And The Tower is a BIG complex, a lot more there than I realized beforehand. Fun Trivia - they still had on display one of the Chopping Blocks used for executions, but the last execution on the Tower Grounds actually took place in 1942 - a group of German Infiltrators were rounded up, and they figured they'd always executed people on that spot, so why not. And then before I went back I rode the underground and found 222B Baker Street just for kicks. (there's a little museum and shop there) Love to go back, I think I could spend a week in the British Museum. Posted by: Tom Servo at July 21, 2017 09:06 AM (V2Yro) 271
