The well meaning/true believer liberals (as opposed to the cynical, exploitive Hillary kind or the FSA kind) have a strong *emotional* attachment to how they'd like reality to be. They can't bear to give that up. In Europe, even if they get raped by immigrants, they still remain pro-immigrant. That's how strong their psychological need is. “Progress means getting nearer to the place you want to be. And if you have taken a wrong turning, then to go forward does not get you any nearer. "Progressives," like all the terms they use, is a misnomer. Everything they want is regressive, like abandoning family, faith, the law, the Constitution, the nation-state, comfortable and healthy civilization built on strong energy resources, on and on; everything that humankind has worked so hard to achieve they would throw away and substitute that from which we emerged.
So, whenever you read "progressive," substitute regressive. That's my 2¢ for the morning. Howdy, y'all! Posted by: mindful webworker - better latte than nuffin at July 15, 2017 12:18 PM (2E/Tt) 103
--- Myers Briggs personality theory puts people in several categories; one of them is thinking/ feeling aka logical/emotional. Pretty much all "thinkers" are Republican and all "feelers" are democrats. There's another category, perceiving/ judging, that talks about decision making. It's nice that people can maintain their antagonism towards and focus on "progressives", but at the moment the problem is on their own "side", where a GOP that was pushed and dragged almost against its will into power simply refuses to eradicate the fiscal, social, and governmental disaster that is O-care.
But as "only" 15+ million have been seriously damaged, directly and personally, by this disaster, while others merely see things continuing downhill at the same pace as before, the inertia of incumbency and tribal politics will guarantee no real change. And Trump, who could make this one of his signature political/policy victories that would also pave the way for others, simply doesn't care Congress produces, and will clearly sign anything put in front of him. Only tiny remaining hope is enough GOP Senators act like adults and refuse to go along with the ridiculous bill to save O-care masquerading as repeal and replace. It's late in my day and I'm drinking.
So, a thought. Political correctness is a memetic disease. It transfers from person to person by hijacking social cues, not the least of which is your own sense of decency and propriety. It tells you "do not say this, good / decent / smart people don't say things like this in polite society", and thus, by doing that, turns you against speaking an unpleasant truth. It fosters a world of lies, and we're seeing its fruit in full bloom now. We're not going to defeat this until we abandon that pretense, and tell the truth. That's going to mean the destruction of a lot of relationships and friendships... But to that, I'd say that if a relationship depended upon lies to be maintained, it wasn't healthy or worth keeping to begin with. We now live in a world that is increasingly hostile to the truth. If we're going to be hated for telling the truth anyway, we may as well go whole hog on the iconoclasm and slaughter all of their sacred cows. Security forces continue searching Temple Mount for weapons
Elior Levy|Published: 15.07.17 , 19:31 A day after the murderous attack inside the Temple Mount, where police officers Ha'il Satawi and Kamil Shnaan were killed, security forces continue to search the compound for weapons. One of the possibilities examined is that most of the Carlo submachine guns used in the terrorist attack were hidden in advance. Posted by: Soona They can't quit while they're ahead. Actually that's not clear enough. They can't settle for a reasonable state of affairs when they get it. Two examples that come to mind: it's not enough to have a lenient immigration policy, they also want to let in illegal *criminals* and allow them to stay here in sanctuary cities. It's not enough for there to be no gender pay gap. They think that because women's clothes generally cost more than men's, this is a "hidden tax" on being a woman. Maybe the rejection of current liberalism means most people realize we've arrived at a point of all that a liberal could reasonably expect. Where we have historically got our butts kicked by the Left is that they will take half a loaf when they can get it, then come back for a whole loaf later, and never quit pressing. We need to learn from that. Do what is possible now, but don't quit pushing toward our ultimate goal. The unfortunate fact is that the majority of the country is not conservative, but the majority can be persuaded to agree with conservative ideas when they are shown to make sense. Rhomboid, I disagree on this one. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. The majority is not liberal either, but the Left has managed to drag the country along toward their direction, a little bit at a time. I think that's what we have to do.

Posted by: Duncanthrax at July 15, 2017 11:16 AM (UtEQe) We'll have to address this at the board meeting next month, but my sense is...no. I vote yes. Ironically, That Guy That Doesn't Read All The Comments has been first several times. Posted by: Grump928(C) at July 15, 2017 02:51 PM (LTHVh) 259

Yeah, that's what the surgeon said when he told me he'd only been able to cut out half of the lethal brain tumor. Posted by: torquewrench at July 15, 2017 02:52 PM (ujwCG) 260
Only tiny remaining hope is enough GOP Senators act
like adults and refuse to go along with the ridiculous bill to save O-care masquerading as repeal and replace. Posted by: rhomboid at July 15, 2017 12:24 PM (QDnY+) ===== Agree with rhomboid here. Let me know when you can find any Fed program that has been diminished, rather than expanded. Repeal, repeal, repeal. First. Then everyone can go play in the weeds. I'm old enough to remember when the Republicans were against government control of the healthcare sector.

"baby steps to kill single payer are better than nothing"
These are baby steps over the cliff TO single payer. (a) Obamacare is imploding horribly. (b) Republicans promise to repeal it. (c) Republicans don't actually repeal it. (d) Instead the Republicans opt to "fix" it. (e) In a way that solves none of the underlying problems. (f) The "fixed" Obamacare implodes horribly anyway. (g) Republicans are blamed by the public. (h) The public vote in Democrats to square away the mess. (i) Democrats install single-payer as the "simple" solution. Easy as falling off a log. The rude reality is that U.S. health care (note I am not referring to "health insurance" or to "health coverage" or to "health policies" but to HEALTH GODDAMN CARE) was badly broken before Obamacare. Obamacare did not fix the underlying broken stuff. Neither do the GOP's cosmetic patches to Obamacare. And neither will single-payer once the Democrats get back in. Republican Cucks have maneouvered themselves into the Centrist position, and pushed the Democrats to the far Left. Problem is: this new GOP Cuck party are the Democrats of the 90's.
