Superb art.
I don't understand the title on the top one. Spruce trees are known for their pacifistic tendencies, forming highly communal societies. They don't really have warriors, and anyway are monecious. Here you can see them communicating, almost conspiratorially, planning to populate the clearing in the foreground. The bottom one is nice though. The rosy tones of the ? rock in the middle highlight the iris. Could use a cabin, though. Cabins are always nice. Not sure what that third drawing is. An incomplete drawing of an ash? Difficult to be sure. Anyway. Thanks for the art! Posted by: Alcoholic Asshole Shut In at June 16, 2017 09:53 AM (CPk08) 127

Had dinner with a conservative friend of mine who has a small business. I pointed out that what is called a "Liberal" today is what we called a Communist back in the 1950s and 1960s. Of course in the 50s and 60s we actually shot at Communists who were shooting at us.
Start shooting too late and you are in the camps and they're turning on the gas. Start shooting too soon and you're a deranged lunatic with a gun. Some point in that span is the proper timing - the question is exactly when that is. There is no question in my mind that the assassination of the President would be a red line event. this might sound funky and hyper religiousy of me, but I wish our
religious leaders would have a super national prayer day for the health of the country. A local church had "Pray for our President" on it's sign last week. I wasn't sure if it was assholish or not. This is the same Presbyterian church that was teaching people about Hinduism last month. Posted by: DeWitt Hardy at June 16, 2017 10:19 AM (oVJmc) 207

ZMan with a good post today
The Exploding Mohamed is looking like a problem for which the Cloud People have no way to ignore, but they are working hard to find a way to turn this problem into a weapon against the Dirt People. ... The most obvious solution to the exploding and stabbing Mohameds is to stop importing Mohameds. If BMW’s exploded at this rate, Britain would ban the importation of BMW’s and demand the manufacturer recall those in the country. Volkswagen is facing billions in fines for violating trivial emissions regulations. Yet, no one dares say, “there’s a problem with these Mohameds. Let’s put the brakes on importing more of them until will can figure out what’s going on with them.” Nope. It is a mad dash to import more of them. http://tinyurl.com/nlsc6xo Posted by: McCool at June 16, 2017 10:22 AM (KvRqW) 217

I was a Creative Writing/Literature major in college. I found there were two kinds of creative writers:
(a) The kind (like me) that views it as a job and sits down for a set number of hours per day and does the job; and (b) The kind that likes the idea of being a writer or a poet because of the cool cachet associated with creative endeavor and talks a lot about inspiration and The Muse. They also talk a lot about agents and movie rights and won't talk about what they're working on because they're deathly afraid someone jealous of their genius might steal their ideas. *chuckles* Be (a). 269 I was a Creative Writing/Literature major in college.
Posted by: troyriser at June 16, 2017 10:42 AM (Fw5cQ) Larry Correia has written a lot about this, that is, the writer for whom writing is a job vs. the writer who likes to think of himself as a grand, exalted artiste. There was so much I disliked in the second John Wick I don't know where to start. It went from a semi-realistic world in the first to some type of steam punk unrealistic world in the second. It abandoned the story structure of the first that made you root for Wick even though he was a bad guy. And if your character is supposed to be the ultimate boogeyman with no equals, then don't put in another character that's basically his equal. Posted by: Diogenes at June 16, 2017 11:08 AM (0tfLf) If the phone works, it's an action flick. If not, it's a horror movie. Posted by: Warai-otoko at June 16, 2017 11:14 AM (AURKQ) Someone somewhere made the observation, the cell phone has ruined essentially every trick in "romantic" movies, where the boy meets the girl, they have some sort of conflict that separates them, and... what. Nowadays, he can text her or call her or hit her up on social media or whatever, man. So the only plot device they have is to break the damn phone, or have her in Siberia or somewhere else with no cell service or wifi. Posted by: BurtTC at June 16, 2017 11:17 AM (TOk1P) 381

At one point he got out of the truck and texted her that he couldn't do it. She ordered him back into the truck and ordered him to kill himself! Yea, I'm not sure why it was involuntary but at least they didn't let her walk. I can't even conceive of the mindset that would encourage an obviously troubled guy to kill himself. Posted by: Cannibal Bob 'now with more rage' at June 16, 2017 11:17 AM (E8apb) I happen to think I'm a brilliant writer (not without some cause for thinking so), but the writing I do professionally is not for public consumption. It has a purpose, and if I'm doing it right (which I believe I am), it can have important consequences. So.. when I come here, I get to let words flow.

"Ace in The Hole" is (loosely) based on the true story of cave explorer Floyd Collins. Quite a story about popular culture (live radio coverage in 1925, nationwide prayer meetings, and so on) and a real ironic tragedy, too -- guy was good enough that he got a steady job exploring a cave system, so bought a pair of good lace-up boots, and it was the boots that got him stuck, and he wouldn't let them saw his leg off to save his life.
One of my dad's earliest memories, hearing the reports on the new radio. Posted by: Stringer Davis at June 16, 2017 11:31 AM (H5rtT) 415
