In every case they have gotten off with a slap on the wrist. Because this new case takes place in NY it's getting a lot of coverage, but out here is Pervertville, it's a near daily event (a progressive getting caught with child porn) so hardly anyone even cares any more.

Which for the scienceophiliac should be a red flag. Logically, children should be psychologically special (just like mothers and pregnant women.) These are how the species is propagated. They should be protected at all costs.
There SHOULD be murderous and completely unreasoning rage when a child is harmed intentionally. I can't help but think that we have lost something fundamental.
Probably a lot of it to is the loss of sympathy. I use that term intentionally (not faux sympathy or rather empathy.) If more people were around kids or had kids themselves, our culture would be responding to these incidents more strongly. When you cannot imagine it is your daughter who was killed by a loser with a nail bomb. Or your son who was molested by a jackass, these incidents lose one facet of their punch.

Probably a lot of it to is the loss of sympathy. I use that term intentionally (not faux sympathy or rather empathy.) If more people were around kids or had kids themselves, our culture would be responding to these incidents more strongly. When you cannot imagine it is your daughter who was killed by a loser with a nail bomb. Or your son who was molested by a jackass, these incidents lose one facet of their punch.

I hate to say it, but I suspect in the next ten to twenty years we'll see a huge push to lower the age of consent and the age for consenting to pornography to be lowered to fourteen, or even twelve.

Unfortunately if a DA tries to crack down on the underaged senders, they invoke the wrath of the left and the libertarian right, whereas if they don't, they face the wrath of the conservative right.

So my baseless and ignorant data is neither of those things. I mention the family members because there is so much made of stranger danger that people fail to realize that it is family members who pose a bigger threat to their children. But the police and the government arrest someone, slap their picture in the paper put them on a list and give people a false sense of security when there was never anything for them to worry about in the first place. It's counterproductive. Possession with or without purchase has nothing to do with being a child molester. You can buy it or get it free and still not be a child molester. It has to do with financially contributing to the problem and making the demand for it known to the producers and downloading it from some free site where the actual abusers don't know a person is downloading their material. (Also, most of the material that's out there has been in existence for about 15-20 years, produced in a studio in the Ukraine, with parental permission, and the studio has been out of business for about10-12 years). The worst of the material is probably on the dark web (which apparently is a real thing, always thought it was a creation of Hollywood), and the people in there know exactly what they're looking for and should be prosecuted. I know everyone on here disagrees with everything I'm saying. That's the whole point of posting. I agree with almost everything I see on Ace's site. And I never post. I don't agree with everyone on this one.
