Bob Becklel, Liberal Fox Commentator, Fired Again, This Time for Making "Racially Insensitive" Remark to Black Fox IT Employee

Just a lot of bad news lately. Not about Beckel -- I could care less.

But Fox is just really losing lately. Ailes died, and their ratings have been dropping.

e sudden death of Roger Ailes (R.I.P.) yesterday is a grim omen for the network he envisioned and built. In the wake of the recent upheavals at Fox News, the conservative cable television network’s ratings are experiencing a precipitous decline from cable news leadership for the first time in the history of the channel. As the rest of the mainstream media continue their efforts to undermine and “resist” the Trump Administration, this development bodes ill for the future -- not only of the unique kind of fair and balanced if right of center reporting pioneered by the Fox News Channel (FNC), but of the prospects for conservatives continuing to have a major media platform, maintain power, and advance their agenda in the months and years ahead.

By "precipitous decline," he means this:

The TV Newser ratings summaries tell the story. Compare the data from random pre-scandal date of Thursday, November 17, 2016 with the latest, Thursday, May 11.
Pre-scandal, FNC comfortably won the prime demo (age 25-54, the group that interests advertisers) in both prime time and all day. In prime time, FNC's 646,000 prime demo viewers were more than double either CNN (234%) or MSNBC (217.5%) totals on a November 2016 Thursday. The ratios were even better for Fox in the all-day traffic for the prime demo: 274% of MSNBC and 218% of CNN's prime demo viewers.
By last Thursday, MSNBC won the prime prime time demo with 635,000 viewers, 126% of FNC's prime time demo. Poor CNN was still beaten by Fox, but the ratio was painfully close to 100% --109.3%, to be exact. The all-day traffic also shows decline for FNC, but it still managed to win the top spot, bringing in 104% of MSNBC's traffic and 106% of CNN's viewership.
I take no joy in these figures. We need Fox to thrive.

Obama is gone (hallelujah!), so a slight FNC dip isn't shocking, and the loony left has whipped itself into a paranoid frenzy, so a MSNBC rise is perfectly logical. The real story of the ratings shift is that MSNBC (and to a lesser degree CNN) is SURGING by feeding the crazies, so expect them to get even more deranged.

I read that the Black guy was from IT and when he came in, Beckel said something "insensitive" about the guy (referencing his race), and then left the room. Makes me wonder if Beckel's reason for not wanting to be alone with the guy was fear that he would get dragged into the suit. Maybe even joked about it or just admitted it.

Since everyone is being so circumspect about the actual words that came out of Beckel's mouth, it's hard to tell.

118 Meh. I don't really care what happens to Fox News. At their best they were mostly celebrity trials and missing little white girls. They were bad about rumors and innuendo, and while they would cover stuff other news agencies wouldn't, there was a lot they just didn't want to touch.

Murdoch will turn it into Sky News USA, because he wants one global news network like the villain in Tomorrow Never Dies where he has the same basic platform, branding, and broadcasting team for everywhere rather than different channels in different places.

I would imagine that the current environment at Fox is dicey - that HR is at the ready to quash any whiff of controversy after the Ailes and O'Reilly messes. If people are held to an arbitrary standard of idealized behavior, there comes a point where they decide to just say, "Screw it! I'm not even going to try any more." 260 Most likely scenario: Beckel thought there was something sketchy about the black guy, figured he might be a criminal pretending to be IT so he could get into people's offices, and went out to try to confirm the guy's identity.

Background: white gal I know used to date a handsome well spoken and genial black career criminal with a $700-a-day heroin addiction. How did he get the money? By dressing nice and going into office buildings in Boston and NYC pretending to be a tech guy taking out expensive office equipment for repair.

Eventually got caught, in and out of prison ever since, committing who knows how many crimes. At least thousands of grand thefts. Don't know if he had a violent side but given his pride in what an excellent liar and manipulator he was that is certainly a possibility.

He is one of millions. La creme de la creme maybe, but the extreme number of conscienceless black criminals is the reason that a person can very reasonably have the reaction that Beckel did (if he actually did have any strong reaction) to an unknown black coming into his space.

If this is what happened Beckel should explain and defend his reaction. If society doesn't want people to react to unknown blacks with heightened concern that they are liable to turn out to be criminals then it has to do something about the FACT that blacks commit virtually every kind of crime at five times the rate that whites do, and the something is simple: put ALL serious criminals of all races in jail or in the ground and keep them there, starting with the first strike. Then there won't be much risk of any unknown person, white or black, turning out to be a criminal. The trash has already been taken out.

This is how to get rid of the very real white privilege of not having everyone you meet for the first time exhibit a high level of concern that you are going to turn out to be a vicious criminal. Just get rid of all the vicious criminals.
