Italian Customs At Simplon
Eugène Pierre Giraud

I think I drove this pass as a kid, and I also have a vague recollection of it being mentioned in a James Bond book.

I'm not sure I like this work. It's amusing to look at, but that's about it. I wish Norman Rockwell had painted this scene...we would have had a better sense of the people.

Can't help thinking of the customs scene in The Dogs Of War. Chris Walken is in an office with the customs officer, and the officer is busy rifling through his luggage and carefully dividing all the good stuff into two piles.

Including Walken's cash.

There is no longer a statute allowing "independent prosecutors , or independent whatevers to investgate the targets identified by Democrats.

The statute that created independent prosecutors was allowed to expire after the Ken Starr investigation when both sides of the aisle realized what kind of far ranging witch hunts could occur. Not to mention that the statute itself was unconstitutional as it created a fourth branch of government that is not in the constitution since an "independent" prosecutor did not report nor answer nor follow any of the three constitutional branches.

I think a murder victim deserves more than that...

So driving while black.

I've watched a couple episodes of Intervention on the Vice channel recently. It is a reality show that works to get drug addicts whose family's are desperate for help into rehab by telling them they are being paid to be in a documentary about drug addiction and then cameras follow them around for a week or so. Family members give interviews about the addict, how it is affecting them etc. Intervention is set up and a drug counselor , often an additional medical professional is included and if the intervention works and the addict agrees to treatment, they go right then. They are typically flown to an out of state rehab that specializes in treatment of the person's addiction and their mental/emotional problems that fueled the addiction.

Recent episode followed a young woman who was addicted to heroin and meth who was in a psychosis for days . Until you see someone who is actually psychotic , you can't imagine how unpredictable and dangerous they are.

The family members who contact the show are normally desperate and have exhausted all other avenues. They also are often enablers. I'm always stunned at how many parents keep funding their kids drug habits to try to keep them off the street. Part of the intervention also involves them and they end up seeing counselors themselves.

250 Gah venting here.

Just venting. Because I don't have anyone I can talk to. Whenever I express dismay or apprehension to my wife she gets on my case and makes me feel bad for feeling bad. I don't have any friends I hang out with IRL anymore, one of my best sounding board guys moved away, I have been trying to have wings and beer with another friend I haven't hung out with a while and he keeps ditching. That is not helping

I am not fishing for sympathy, just venting to the Horde because I know you guys. Kind of.

First off I recognize all my blessings I have 4 kids that are good kids. I have a good dog, and we are bringing up a good puppy. I have a good wife even if we don't always see eye to eye. I have a job that pays me well.

But here is my deal. I am not dealing well with having turned 29. Yes, like all of us I am 29, but my 29 looks like half a century in big round numbers.

And the job that I have is working for a crazy person. And I have been looking for a new position for the past year and unfortunately it seems I am a buggy whip maker in the field of IT. It seems like nobody wants me. Nobody. Even when I have great interviews. Even when - perhaps especially when - the job looks like they took my resume and made a job description out of it.

I had the best job interview EVER about 6 weeks ago. I got a draft offer about 4 weeks ago. Waiting for the final. Pinged the guy Friday, he said he would get back to me Monday, still nothing.

Guys tie up a lot of their identity and self worth in what they do. This is disheartening. I don't feel like I am worth much of anything.

Don't go trying to figure out who I am IRL (some of you have enough info to do that) and calling the police to get a wellness check. I am not there. But I am depressed, and I just have to vent.

I have faith in God, and that everything works according to God's plan, but I have to wonder, sometimes, maybe this is His plan . We cannot know, unfortunately.

It feels like a Monday.

275 Blaster, I know the feeling.

Y'all know where I've been the last few years. Well, now I'm trying to make my way forward and it's as if I'm dragging a mountain. I can't get basic proper cooperation from folks I need to do things so I can do things (the Saga of the Truck Tag). I can't concentrate to study on my certs (and in my field, for all I know it's glutted with H1Bs and it's a doomed effort). I feel like an old dog whose owner passed and I'm just being shuffled around between folks who don't really want them. I have no family of my own. For all I know I will die alone somewhere, unnoted and uncared-for. My life seems to be caretaking for things and people declining and passing from this world. My earnings have been sideways for 17 years, which of course means functionally backwards. Won't even get into health worries.

It's a miracle I wake up in the morning, and that's when I get a good night's sleep.

I get by because I have blessings to count, though it feels that list dwindles a bit more each year.

And still...I persist.

Because it isn't forever. Eventually, I stay true and keep faith, and with God's grace I'll be reunited with those I love in a better realm.

For now, I guess that's enough.

blaster, I hear you. I am so right there.

I'm not going to try to encourage you, because all encouragement sounds like BS when you feel like that, and because I feel pretty much exactly like you do anyway.

So aside from saying I feel you and hang in there, I would say this: the Curse wasn't just for farmers. I think that thorns and thistles and the sweat of your brow looks a lot like you're describing for IT folks and engineers and stock brokers and everybody else.

I also look at Jacob: immediately after he actually wrestles with God, and has all sorts of extraordinary blessings pronounced over him, he leaves, has his encounter with Esau and basically survives but has to take the lean pickings of the land.

And then goes into that not so great land. And digs a well. Which gets stolen by the locals. So he moves. And digs a well. Which gets stolen by the locals. So he moves again, and digs a third well.

By this time I think Jacob could be excused for wondering what in the hell was going on, because God had just blessed him and told him all sorts of wonderful things to come, and I'd be willing to be that Jacob did not expect to continue to have life be that hard after hearing God say those things.

He gets to keep the third well and is finally in a place where he can settle and prosper.

So I'm not sure which well I'm on, personally, but it doesn't seem likely that it's that third one yet. Doesn't mean God's not with us. Just means life and work is really freaking hard.

There are times when He feels very far away. I have felt that too often. Don't give up on the new job yet, they may just be waiting on HR to finish paperwork.

You may also want to consider some counseling with your wife. If you attend a church, find out if they are doing a marital seminar anytime soon. Or consider going to a secular counselor with her. You need her to support you, and there may be things she needs from you that you don't know to do. Sometimes communicating with your spouse can be really hard, because you feel like you should know each other, and each others' wants and needs, and those can change over time.

And know that the Horde will pray with you and for you. Also, enjoy being 29 again. Think of all you have done over those years, and find the bright spots, and focus on those. You have probably touched more lives than you realize, and have made an impact on a lot of people.

Hugs and best wishes to you

there's a really good point to that-sunshine and vitamin D make a difference in mood/serotonin levels. Even if you just sit outside with a cup of coffee in the morning, listening to the birds. That helps.

Today I was outside with the dogs, and have noticed a bumblebee is obsessed with my chocolate lab. For several days, it buzzes all around her, does a dance, and then brings other bees over to see her. They seem to say, "Dammit Carl, that's a dog, not a flower. Stop bring us to see her."

But every day, Carl comes back and buzzes my Boo. I appreciate his dedication, misplaced and erroneous as it is.

310 Hey blaster,

Hang tough.

A big part of the job probs is a still weak economy.

It took Reagan two years to get the economy really going.

Assuming the dildoes in the Rep party can get their act together, it will take Trump at least that long.

So, don't despair, feel grateful that you have a job. I know several people who've been looking for almost 4 years.

As Tom Petty sez-

"The waiting is the hardest part.'

But, sometimes that is exactly what you must do.

1. eat meat, lots of it. skip the "healthy veggies"
think about it - have you ever felt morose right after a juicy steak? Heck no. You get the satisfied hunter feeling.

2. if you can squeeze it in at all, start or restart a hobby
give your brain a break

3. Every morning say good morning and every night say good night to God. Maybe talk to Him if you feel like it.

No stinging, thank goodness. This bee just goes crazy when she is outside, and lands on her, like he is giving little bee kisses. Every day. The behavior of the other bees is fascinating, because you can see the dance he does to indicate pollen, they fly over to the dog, and then fly off, huffy. If a bee can be huffy.

Anything 'driver' will be gone in 5-10 years as a profession. It's not that hard to turn an IT background into future automation jobs though. That's what I'm leaning towards. SCADA and industrial control systems are a good place to start - most of that knowledge transfers nicely to installing/supporting our future robot overlords.Automated CNC and milling systems can also be lucrative if you're in an industrial area. Programmers/operators for this systems make good money, same for install/repair but there aren't many places who do it.

Just not excited about this line of work anymore.

God has a plan that's for sure and I have had a huge struggle with that and good spiritual guidance has helped a lot...some here may have seen posts before but I am going through a divorce that I didn't ask for, pleaded for the good of the kids that we try to work things out before she filed (4 kids) and her dismissal of my concerns over mental health and her long term use of anti depressants (16 years) without the guidance of a mental health professional just her GP. Even though my wife filed in December she's still living in the house...not the easiest thing in the world to deal with.

Anyways that's water over the dam at this point.

I'm not entirely sure still at this point what God's plan is for me I can only faithfully act on what I think it is. Right now that is going to be a loving father to my four kids and providing them the most stable home I can when we are finally in two separate homes.

Act in faith Bender and the rewards will come...for me its faith that I will find happiness again in my daily life which I can share with my family and friends that I have sacrificed now for years.

Two women brought him to the house for me to meet the baby (and further interrogate me). I was their first choice to adopt him, but after thinking about it over the weekend while we were in NJ/NYC, I chose to focus on sweet old kitty and let her live out her days without being harassed by a kitten/kitties.

Hold on to the people who are truly on your side - your family, real friends, whatever it takes. Also, try to find a support group in your area. That helped me quite a bit.

Posted by J.J. Sefton at 07:00 AM Comments

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable--a paraphrase of a JFK quote--

Given that the Left in all its guises is dismantling our system of government, our institutions, and even our history (after what, do the victors tear down the historical statues of the past? that's right, a revolution), shouldn't it be at least a little upsetting to those who aren't "down with the struggle"?

Given that the GOP hasn't used the means at its disposal to fight the leftward lunge of the government, can one not see how an average American would think that the political process is almost played out as a solution?

Given that many of the Americans who held their noses to vote for Trump to keep Hillary from the presidency also voted for the GOP members who are currently in DC, isn't it understandable that they'd like to see support for the President, at least against spurious charges? Couldn't the GOP come to terms and agreement with at least some of the President's agenda? After all, they've found common ground with the democrats for the past 10 years, why not Trump?

Given all the above and a myriad of other reasons, isn't it understandable that some people are feeling absolutely powerless within the confines of the political system?
What exactly does that leave? You say there's no excuse for thinking certain thoughts out loud (or in the little gray boxes that count as out loud here) but I say see the JFK paraphrase above.

Sure, there are some who use each and every little crisis to advocate for violence and revolution, and you sure don't want this place to become the go-to place for that. But those people are called Leftists/Anarchists/Communists and they've been successfully DOING that everywhere that counts.

But here? Watch what you say, and by the way, R-E-L-A-X.

I say this as someone who actually is relaxed, and doesn't condone or advocate for senseless violence. I'm not here reading the totality of every thread, and maybe I've missed something, but the admonishments are reminding me of the Trump War Troubles of last summer, but I don't see a corresponding level of angst in the comments.

495 Insomniac,

I'm very fortunate that both my family and her family are right here in town. I know there's more emotional pain to come (the days I don't have the kids) but I've been there done a lot of that (lost 25 pounds have gained 20 back). My anger really has turned into sadness for her because she will not be able to make it on her own and her family isn't going to enable her to the degree they realized they had been for a long time.

She didn't ask for the terrible traumas she's suffered in her life, but then she ran away from dealing with it and still won't now...

I've realized that I had gone into a shell basically protecting and excusing my wife's behavior by letting go of the close friendships I had. I'm lucky enough that as this gets completed that those friends will be there for me...blessed in that fact actually.

Being 43 and divorced with 4 kids (14,11,5,2) isn't where I pictured myself being, but it is what it is.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_journalism

Yellow journalism, or the yellow press, is a type of journalism that presents little or no legitimate well-researched news and instead uses eye-catching headlines to sell more newspapers.[1] Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering or sensationalism. By extension, the term yellow journalism is used today as a pejorative to decry any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion.[2]
Joseph Campbell describes yellow press newspapers as having daily
multi-column front-page headlines covering a variety of topics, such as
sports and scandal, using bold layouts (with large illustrations and
perhaps color), heavy reliance on unnamed sources, and unabashed
self-promotion. The term was extensively used to describe certain major New York City newspapers around 1900 as they battled for circulation.[3

There's even recorded footage of his testimony.

And furthermore Comey would have committed a crime if someone was

So once again the only potential crimes were committed by people other than trump or his associates

Which is why I keep saying this special counsel is going after one thing--vote fraud in the cities, especially by illegals.

How many times did he talk about vote fraud during the campaign?
Did he not just announce a commission to look into vote fraud?
Did he not just instruct immigration to start comparing voter rolls to resident aliens?

4 - Orin Hatch becomes president then names Hillary as VP
5 - Hatch after taking the oath, resigns and Hillary becomes President

Its rather fantasmic but this is their plan to put the Queen on her rightful throne ...

600 I posted this here a week ago:

"Trump's end game may be to have Rosenstein appoint a special prosecutor to look into "everything." Key is who gets picked and their mandate. Could be advantages in running a silo-ed investigation away from the compromised DOJ and FBI.

"Schumer and McCain demanded a special prosecutor, they got it. Heh"

This is a long fight folks.

While there's risk with a special counsel, likely outcome is that Trump gets vindicated.

It likely will stall Trump's agenda, but he can use that in the run-up to the 2018 mid-terms.

Posted by: Ignoramus at May 18, 2017 11:51 AM (+7/1f)

601 One thin about Trump is that --if he's to go down--he'll go down swinging.
Remember Nixon being told he could have contested the stolen 1960 election? Or that he could probably have used legal challenges to stave off impeachment awhile longer? Maybe until the eve of the 1976 election? Both times, Nixon nixed those ideas because he didn't want to "tear the country apart."

Trump is not Nixon--good or bad--and since Al Gore in 2000 ( and Hillary '16) losing gracefully doesn't happen anymore.

Anti depressants used by the wife were usually involved in there cases.

As an aside it takes two to tango (I don't blame everything on the soon to be ex) and maybe if I'd brought these problems and issues I had a few years ago it could have changed things, but I doubt it...I don't think she's wanted to be married to me for at least 5 years.

650 I just found out my Temporary Hearing had to be canceled because the main expert and my main advocate of 4 forgot to communicate with my lawyer that he would be out of town. I have no money to pay the 60 dollar an hour to 150 dollars an hour supervision, and both my sons are map nurtished and in the 1% for weight.

Oh and my lawyer was so frustrated I had to spend 90 minutes talking him down from withdrawing.

Oh and I've never committed a crime and and only been diagnosed with anxiety. The court ruled that I have to hand over my medical records even pre divorce decree.

This has been a 3.5 year process.

I'm thinking about moving to work back home with a old friend if he will allow it. There is nothing more I can do or my lawyer or experts can do besides call DFCS or CPS, which would make things 10 times worse my sons health.

Oh and the divorce decree was a soviet show trial where ex lawyer was a sitting candidate for a judge for the now retired judges seat. It was rammed through and rubber stamped without my signature on her last day in office. Oh and her lawyer who appointed Judge stood on has her lawyer because I hired a lawyer to appeal to intimidate him. Spoiler: it worked.

Lots of rope in the future for people working in the 50 billion dollar a year family law business, which is literally terrorism and war profiteering. To think there will not be serious blowback for fucking with and destroying the lives of millions of children and their parents is delusional and symptoms of psychopaths.

Violence against a parent and children is never justified unless it is for defensive purposes, and feelings and sadistic fantasies don't reach the standard of defense.

Vent kinda over. But the family courts are what need the reform to save western civilization. Very Few have the balls to speak this truth.

Even if the NYT's account is 100% accurate, who cares if Comey's memo states that Trump asked him to move on after firing Flynn?

A President has the power to pardon, and he can certainly give his opinion on how law enforcement should proceed seeing as how the Executive Branch is in charge of enforcing the laws.

Obama's Executive orders basically instructed ICE who they should focus on, yet was Obama impeached?

Obstruction of justice would be if say Trump ordered underlings to go in and erase hard drives and destroy evidence.

Oh wait, I'm sorry, it was simplyhired.com. Although it was probably on indeed as well.

One reason why I almost applied is that there weren't really any "requirements." Can't say it for technicians everywhere, but I don't recall any school requirements at all, nor any prior experience.

Ok, I just found one posted for Dallas:

- 18 or older
- high school diploma or GED required
- must reside local and be able to dispatch within a reasonable time
- on call 24/7
- occasional overnight and/or multi-day travel (accomodations paid for)
- ability to frequently lift 50 lbs.
- Microsoft Office proficiency a plus

No schooling required other than high school.

661 So basically the new standard is the wife can break the law by going around calling you crazy and dangerous. You defend yourself with letters and a independent mental health evaluation. Present them in discovery. The judge will rule that constitutes signing away all of those doctors medical notes and records and everything for your abuser to go through and pay an expert to read them to diagnose you with something you don't have.

No crime. No drugs or alcohol abuse. Not violent. Just defending against false allegations. Take Valium. That's it.

Hell of a justice system we have.

662 The President can express his opinion that Comey should move on in light of the Flynn resignation/firing based on the President's opinion that there is nothing left to investigate. He did not order or demand or threaten.

Posted by: Jack Sock at May 18, 2017 12:07 PM (UubSE)

663 Even if the NYT's account is 100% accurate, who cares if Comey's memo states that Trump asked him to move on after firing Flynn?

Here's the part that bugs me: 'I hope you can let this go' absent anything that represents actual pressure hardly represents obstruction of justice.

Can you believe that Clinton never said something of that nature to anyone in his administration? Or Reagan? Or pretty much any President in history? Okay, you had fifty years of J Ed Terror, but still...

She didn't live her life like she did because she was the single Mom of two...she lived it that way because that is who she is.

Love at first sight is great, but knowing what you want versus knowing what you're getting is something I should have taken more time to learn.

Reschedule. But everybody has to not have a conflict. It took 14 months just to get this. Sole custody is conjoined with a alienation and contempt charge still unheard filed in September 2015.

But have no idea when the reschedule will take place.

Oh and since September 2015 it's been an emergency reunifaition and alienation.

The thing is, what Manafort and Flynn did was not illegal.

A foreign government can pay for representation in the United States.

Its sleazy, but probably every Congressman has met with lobbyists that have clients with foreign governments

So when these ties came to light, Trump fired both immediately.

There's no crime here, but where people get tripped up is when someone tries to cover something up or leave something out

So nobody should talk.

Nooses are one-size-fits-all in terms of neck size, it's the rope length and the drop relative to the size and weight of the soon-to-be-departed that needs to be calibrated.

If'n you don't get that right, the head flies off, at the other extreme the guy hangs there singing 'Killed By Death' until someone cuts his guts out.

The Brits used to be big on that, of course, they'd hang someone but not KILL them that way, they'd still be alive when drawn and quartered.

My advice to you is demand sole custody of your children and treat it as a war and a zero sum game. First of all, it sounds like your children would be at risk under her custody and as their father you should not leave your children in a risky environment. Second, the first one to fight it like a zero sum a game and a war will usually win. I suggest showing her zero mercy and putting your children first. Her problems are her problems that she needs and is responsible for fixing. It's not yours.

Your kids can't afford for you to accept this behavior from her.

This has to run its course, and the course is what it is. Your job, in my unsolicited opinion, is to do what you are doing - straight and narrow, hammering at the thing. "The wheels of justice grind slowly, but exceedingly fine"...or something like that. Giving the proverbial finger to the judges is not a winning strategy..
