There was another one of those "eel crawls up a man's butt" stories a few years ago. That guy wasn't as lucky as this one, and he ended up dying. Don't recall all the details, but I think the eel was eating his colon or something. Pretty gross.

The attack took place near the Lions' Gate in the Old City. The terrorist was shot and neutralized by the forces in the area, and his condition is unknown. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at May 13, 2017 07:27 AM (fDdVG) ================================ I don't know if it's normal or not. If you mean, does an average teenage boy swear like that? Maybe so. But it certainly doesn't need to be acceptable in your home, normal or not. My son was in the Army and often had Army buddies visit the house. If they ever started in with rough language, as soldiers often do, my son would quickly shit them down with "my mom doesn't allow that language in her house." I never had to tell them twice. Except this one kid who let it slip and immediately apologized. It's your home. You set the rules. It doesn't matter if it's normal. Just my two paltry cents. Look at it this way, by being a DC Uniparty Establishment, GOP wing, politician, you still get 75% of the available graft and perks, and only about 15% of the bad press you deserve. So it's quite rational for GOPe politicians to knife Trump in the back because the odds are pretty good that he'll be gone in 7.5 years (or less, if you're lucky) and you'll still be on the gravy train with a gold-plated ticket to ride. It is so annoying! Having never had a teenage boy before I am not always sure what is normal." Fenelon, I've been wondering how your son is doing. I hope he's been able to start on his group sessions.
Re the swearing, I don't know if what I will say will really be applicable, given the factors you have to deal with, but we don't allow swearing in our house, at all. I've only ever heard any of my kids swear twice, and neither time did they know I was anywhere around and they apologized profusely (and they were both older than your son when it happened). I think whoever above said he is testing limits is correct. My suggestion is to sit down with your husband and come to an agreement that you will not allow your son to use that sort of language in your home, and then set some consequences and be willing to enforce. Easier said than done, I know, but I think it needs to be done. Usually when kids do something like that that they absolutely know their parents don't like, they are waiting to be told not to do it, even if they won't admit it. I know things are complicated by his latest troubles and his autism, so as I said, I don't know how helpful this really is. But since you asked for ideas, I figure I'd throw this out there. And, of course, pray. Posted by: bluebell at May 13, 2017 08:46 AM (sBOL1) 129

Having never had a teenage boy before I am not always sure what is normal.
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at May 13, 2017 07:27 AM (fDdVG) It’s perfectly normal for a teenage son to rebel. My mom turns 90 next month, and I would never use the f-word around her. I only rarely use it when I’m by myself. Even then, I always regret it. I’m no psychologist, but my guess is that your son is 1) using the word mostly out of habit; and 2) engaging in a minor rebellion against you by using it. It’s normal for teens, especially boys, to rebel against their parents. I certainly did, though it was tame at the time and even more tame by today’s standards. You have two options: 1) Ignore the situation and hope things get better. This really is a good option if your son is trying to shock you. When he figures out that you’re not shocked, he’ll move on to something else. 2) Deal out punishment as you see fit and follow through. If you go with the punishment route: 1) Sit down with your son and tell him that using the f-word is unacceptable and will be followed through by punishment. Decide the punishment beforehand and follow through. If you break him of using the habit around your family, chances are he will stop the habit in other areas of his life. The key is following through. If you give him one week’s suspension for doing X, give him the entire week’s suspension, no matter how much he changes in the days following the suspension. 2. Make sure that you and FenelonSpouse are in agreement. You have to ensure a united front. Agree beforehand on the punishment. 3) Agree with FenelonSpouse beforehand what type of punishment follows should your son break the rule you’ve laid down. You might agree on something like one additional week for the first offense and two additional weeks for the second offense. 4) Don’t make the punishment so harsh that he will resent you but make it harsh enough that he knows you mean business. 5) I’m repeating this for emphasis. Decide beforehand with FenelonSpouse what you will use a punishment and determine what you will use for further punishment should your son fail to uphold the bargain. Not that we've heard yet. The policeman responded to a call about a man with a gun walking down the middle of the street. This a tiny little rural community we're talking about here. The chief had been on the job for less than 3 weeks. The county sheriff was professional and courteous to the press during his morning press conference yesterday but the look on his face was heartbreaking in itself. The shooter had a couple of hostages before he shot the chief. They got away. He then went into the nursing home and killed a nurse and and an aide. Hi everyone. I haven't done one of these for a while, so here goes:
Colorado Shenanigans Update tl:dr version- Legislatures can't help themselves. They know only how to spend. Colorado's Taxpayer Bill of Rights (aka TABOR) was originally instituted in 1992. The intent was to put a cap on the amount of money that the state government could raise (and spend). Ever since, legislators have sought ways around the caps. Certain entities categorized as 'enterprises' were exempted from TABOR calculations. These were defined as government-owned businesses that provided a specific product or service that was sold to customers in a market transaction and were sustainable as businesses independent of state financing, for example, the gift shops at state parks. The Colorado Hospital Provider Fee was a tax on hospitals in the state based on patient volume. This fee, totalling ~$800 million was then redistributed to hospitals based on their percentage of indigent and Medicaid patients. That $800 million counted against the TABOR caps. In SB-267 the state legislature has now repealed the Hospital Provider Fee and replaced it with the same thing under a different name, only now labeled as an 'enterprise'. (Colorado Healthcare Affordability and Sustainability Enterprise or CHASE ). Tax revenue generated by this entity no longer counts against the wider state TABOR spending limit. This entity does not sell a product or service on the open market. The fees charged to hospitals are passed on to the individual consumer. In a gesture of magnanimity (sarc) the bill's sponsors have agreed to only finagle $600 million of the available $800 million. That's a mistake that I want to avoid should my family and I ever move out of IL, which I want to do, but not having ANY family or close friends anywhere else makes it hard to decide where else to go. I have heard of people just packing up and moving sight unseen and actually making it work -- and isn't that exactly what our immigrant ancestors did when they got on the boat? Still, I would think that for every person who "won" that kind of gamble there would be at least several others who regretted it. (And there were, back in the 19th century, immigrants who went back to the Old World because they DIDN'T make it in America.) If any of Teh Horde knows someone who just "took the plunge" and moved to another state or another community at least 500 miles away (meaning they could not easily drive back and forth whenever they felt like it), for any reason (jobs, retirement, just wanting to start their life over) WITHOUT scoping out their new home thoroughly first, how did it turn out? Well, I moved to Mississippi from NC when I went to grad school - about a 700 mile trip - but I did go spend a day down there looking for an apartment and talked to some folks a couple months prior to actually moving. I forgot that your son suffers from autism and didn’t know that he had been through troubles recently. My suggestions remain the same but you might lessen them in light of his struggles. For example, instead of suspending him from something he likes for a week, make it 3 days instead. Aim for the right balance between mercy and punishment, just as God does with us. The main thing is that you and FenelonSpouse decide on the appropriate punishment, follow through, don’t mitigate it, and maintain a united front. ...WITHOUT scoping out their new home thoroughly first, how did it turn out?"
5 years ago, my husband and I decided we wanted to move out west. We picked Jackson Hole, WY, never having been there in our lives. We found a condo for rent on craigslist (in Alpine, 40 min away from the Grand Tetons), looked at it on google earth, said, "That'll do!" and applied online, wired our deposit, and picked up and moved. It was everything we thought it would be. We got jobs, we had a gorgeous view, we loved the mountains and the wildlife and even the snow. Then our mothers both started having health problems and we didn't want to be 2000 miles away, so we moved back to Ohio last summer to help them out. We have every intention of moving back out when we retire. Posted by: April at May 13, 2017 10:00 AM (e8PP1) 236

True, but the real difference is that moving with a job means you have a built in support system (i.e. the people who hired you and/or other employees of the same company, the military infrastructure, etc.) while moving without a job means you don't, and are on totally on your own until such time as you can create your own support system of friends, co-workers, etc. Posted by: Secret Square at May 13, 2017 10:00 AM (9WuX0) 237

True, but the real difference is that moving with a job means you have a built in support system (i.e. the people who hired you and/or other employees of the same company, the military infrastructure, etc.) while moving without a job means you don't, and are on totally on your own until such time as you can create your own support system of friends, co-workers, etc.
Posted by: Secret Square at May 13, 2017 10:00 AM (9WuX0) ------------ Like I said, I've done both. And "the job" was only a fraction of the total sum of anxiety that I felt moving from the familiar to the unfamiliar. Posted by: Soona at May 13, 2017 10:06 AM (Fmupd) 242

Fidget Spinners. Who knew. For years I used a think rectangular perfectly weighted gold Tiffany lighter in meetings and other places when I was bored or had to wait long periods of time.
Funny. They have apparently been around 15 years or so, now a craze, soon to be banned in the classrooms and perhaps elsewhere. If you like it, wait and some petty tyrant will forbid it. Posted by: gracepc at May 13, 2017 10:08 AM (OU4q6) 244

And those they feature, like this woman, aren't all that beautiful.
