125 Have to say this painting, besides keeping with the 'grab a boob' theme this week, doesn't do much for me. But Joachim Beuckelaer did a lot of kitchen and market still life which is more interesting. The quality of the food stuffs in those works is almost botanical illustration level and you can see the influence on the later still life painting of later Low Country artists. The same for his inanimate objects like pewter or silver utensils. Apparently 16th century Dutch ate damn well.

I know little of the Dutch art of the period but wonder if Beuckelaer influenced Vermeer's use of people in everyday activities.

131 Semi-OT, but since the Hillary "camp" is out to find the sources used by the authors of "Shattered":

Having read the book, one of the more noticeable
features is the authors´ uncritical acceptance of every progressive meme
about Obama and his wife. While they are somewhat critical of Hillary,
their love for Obama is palpable.

And, while they are somewhat
critical of Hillary, that criticism is largely one of tactics-as they
clearly approve of her policy agenda.

Also noteworthy is their
acceptance of the various Russian hacker conspiracy theories-though they
did at least acknowledge that the content of the Podesta emails was
somewhat unacceptable.

All in all, its a worthwhile book, in the
sense that it perfectly captures what happened to Hillary and her
campaign-as seen by two typical coolaid drinking leftists and their
sources within and around Clinton.

Muybridge is an interesting character. He got started in "motion studies" when he was hired by a man named Leland Stanford who had made a bet that, when a horse ran, at some point all four legs were off the ground.

The trouble was that there was no camera fast enough to catch a running horse's motions (this was 1870s - 1880s, I believe), so Muybridge set up a row of cameras along a track, each equipped with a tripwire. As the horse ran, it caught each wire and set off each camera, showing that yes, a horse does for a moment have all four feet off the ground.

And he progressed from that into "motion studies" of women, many of which you can find as animated GIFs on line.

Yeah, I don't want any US involvement in it at all.

Let the Venezuelan government take everything not nailed down (and everything else that is), still fail, and show to the world that it's not the US doing it that's killing that country. There will, of course, still be those who believe it, but some people will get the education they need.

Also, it's GM. I have no room in my heart for GM. Not only are they a huge multi-national corporation who deserves little sympathy based on that fact alone, but they bilked pensioners and tax payers.

OK, I'm bored and vaguely irritable this morning, so I'm'a game this bitch out.

Let's say we go in. First we have reclaiming the assets. Good luck taking them intact. Oh, and now we just gave Maduro the nice scenario of defending against American invaders in a region that already gives us the stinkeye. Latin America being what it is, even his opposition might well align against us. And now we're expending blood and treasure for...GM? And our exit strategy is what, exactly?

And that's assuming their neighbors don't cry foul and come to their defense. Remember, Latin America is Clannish As Fuck, nearly to Islamic levels. We are the Outsider (with a bad history to boot).

All this only to have it happen again a generation later.

Like I said, better plan, just don't invest there.

Appreciation of classical liberal values takes a long time to settle into a population (it's why forcing it in the Middle East is pretty much doomed to failure at this point), so maybe there's some hope in some pockets that could expand.

But that requires politicians to be concerned with the welfare of their country over their own personal gain, and a population that's willing to give up "free" goodies for a more general good. That's not an easy lesson to get several million people to learn all at once.

328 I doubt Colombia will get involved beyond guarding the border against raids, sorties and refugees from Venezuela.

Colombia has been trying to end its civil war with the FARC by conceding a pension and the right to steal local elections to the communist rebels. (actually I think they are officially Marxist, but what the hell) and Santos is dealing with a groundswell of anger at that, as well as with elements of the FARC who, forgoing revolution, have taken up brigandage and smuggling which looks identical.
The FARC was supported to a large extent by Venezuela, so I doubt Colombia is going to get into an invasion of Venezuela. They didn't really want a Gran Colombia under Bolivar in the early 1800's either

And the opinion makers in Colombia appear to be smug lefties, as indoctrinated as ours here.

Of the other neighbors, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana don't do much, and Brazil has its own problems - oddly enough as a result of having given pensions and the right to steal elections to former communist revolutionaries.
