"Sources:" O'Reilly Out at Fox

End of Phase 1 of the Fox Cinematic Universe?

The Murdochs have decided Bill O'Reilly's 21-year run at Fox News will come to an end. According to sources briefed on the discussions, network executives are preparing to announce O'Reilly's departure before he returns from an Italian vacation on April 24. Now the big questions are how the exit will look and who will replace him...

Supposedly they're just working out the details now, namely:

* Will O'Reilly be allowed back for a show or two to say good-bye to his loyal audience? Amazingly, Fox is supposedly "leaning against" that.

* O'Reilly just signed a multiyear $20 mil/year contract. Do they pay that out? Seems like the have to. They just paid out Ailes for the remainder of his contract. I guess maybe they're looking into legal pretexts to not honor the contract.

* Who will replace him? Obviously a big question.

The idea that Shep Smith might be back in the night lineup fills me with dread. (Remember, he used to do the 7pm news report, before being moved to make way for Greta VanSustern (herself bumped to 7pm due to the arrival of MeAgain Kelly).

Matter of fact, I bet Fox is talking to NBC now about buying back MeAgain.

Maybe it's because I literally hate watching politics on TV and have never watch Fox News.

Unless there is a whole lot more to this than the public has been hearing (unlikely given that we are hearing it from women who have incentive to make the situation look as unsavory as possible), they will likely have to pay him for the rest of his contract too.

As for the archiving, if the blog stays up, and the chronology is intact, a script could pretty trivially recurse back to the beginning and copy off posts as it went.

Chelsea talks in the same incoherent, rambling, big word salad manner as John Kerry. I can imagine what a show of her ad-libbing/dicsussing the issues with guest would be like.

I'm picturing the times I caught a bit of Meghan McCain's old show on Pivot, where she would utter something incomprehensible, and the two beta boys seated next to her would sort of pause, look uncomfortable, and then move on without really acknowledging what she'd just said.

They spent $8 million dollars. In a house seat. In a jungle primary special election. That's like dumping $100 billion dollars on a presidential campaign against a candidate that his like $3.50 to spend.
And they still came up short.

Thing is - these have been special elections. The rules are different. Turnout models are skewed. Main thing to know about special elections is that motivated subsets of the voting population have outsized influence, simply because the total turnout tends to be lower.

I can't remember where I read the analysis, but gerrymandering is actually much less of an explanatory reason for Republican strength in the House.

It's simply that Democrats were too strong from 2006-2010, and the 2010 election was a reset. The Democratic Party as a whole is much further to the left than the voters in those (former) swing districts, and it's not because Republican state legislators cut out weird districts. It's because they were always that conservative or the liberals left.

Posted by: TheJamesMadison at April 19, 2017 03:04 PM (mC1ZI)

Every Republican politician and conservative-identified public figure should know they're under a microscope and should therefore behave accordingly; that is, like proper gentlemen and ladies, all the time. If they don't like it, they can always pursue a career out of the limelight and away from the centers of power.

I'm guessing VP Pence's agreement with his wife to not dine alone with another woman--in any context--is as much a political arrangement as it is personal.

O'Reilly's done this sort of thing before, years ago. He knew better but kept doing it, evidently.

Soros et al plus the New York Times out to bring down anyone that is a thorn in their flesh. And the Murdochs are definitely moving FOX to the left. I guess I have little respect for the few conservatives who are staying. They are simply tokens--like conservatives at the other liberal media trash. FOX had a good ride. It's over.

667 I like Rogue One. I like what Disney did with it. George Lucas could have, but he didn't because...well, we all know why George Lucas didn't by now.

Best thing George Lucas ever did was handing over the franchise to anyone else. 1,2, and 3 were awful and there's no reason why there had to be 3 of them when 1 would have sufficed, except George Lucas was bored.

He missed the opportunity 3 times to do what Disney did with Rogue One and now Carrie Fisher is dead. George Lucas wasted Carrie Fisher. Unforgivable.

Side note. Hot Women should rethink wearing the painted on pants that show every fold of the body. It's sad IMO. I'm embarrassed for them. I can't even look in their direction. It's crossed the line. And bending over in my face, I can see exactly what your Hope Solo looks like and Hoo Hoo as well. Wear shorts or something. If you have to wear pants that are painted on and see through and you are that hot, it comes off as not confident. I'd never allow my GF/wife/fiancé out dressing like that. 739 710 Despite the lefty nonsense in Rogue 1 it was terrific fun, and after some thought I think I know why. People talk about editing but they rarely talk about pacing. The second half of the film had excellent pacing as each exciting development was rolled out at just the right moment.

Thank you. There is a line that has been crossed. It's not all tight form fitting pants. It's the sheer thin pants that make a woman look completely nude. I know you know the difference. It's too much IMO. I can't even look in their direction while jamming out and lifting. I keep my eyes down. Seems completely wrong to me.

Don't get me wrong if any one of them were my GF or other, then I'd think that would be sexy as sit to wear around the house and work out in. Total turn on. But outside the home, no. Just no.

This is the second time this has happened, there are apparently millions of dollars paid in settlements here, there was the whole messy divorce filing, and I'm sure that was exaggerated to some degree, because... divorce filing.

But there is something here, this guy is clearly a dirt bag of some degree. It's probably time for him to go.

We need to make the elites of the GOP Establishment wet themselves with fear at the very thought of betraying their base and until we do the left will always have the upper hand in the power struggle for control of this country.

===============

The blind guy was interesting, but unnecessary to the plot and story. The droid was funny, but obviously expanded in reshoots to give him a bigger role.

Darth Vader's addition is probably the easiest single thing to point at as evidence of the movie's problems.

1) Just extra bad guy in a movie that already has at least 2 (Krennick and Tarkin)
2) Cringeworthy dialogue ("Choke on your aspirations"...ugh)
3) Adds nothing to the movie except an unnecessary action scene
4) Is there purely for fan service

OTOH having to listen to that jerk --I finally quite listening, and I'm a heck of a lot more conservative than O'Reilly just got to be too much. He talks over his guests; writes or has written ridiculous ghost written "histories" and is one of the more self satisfied shallow simpletons in NYC.

786 Bill created his own problems but the left will declare this as a huge victory in their efforts to diminish the conservative leaning news outlets. O'Reilly and Ailes basically built FoxNews and made Fox have some clout in the media because they had the ratings. The left wing media does not want the competition and Fox is now scrambling. Not sure The Five will work in primetime. Will they have any guests?
