Shrieking Tantrum Throwing Titty Babies Score Another Awesome Victory Against Ever Saying Anything Even Mildly Clever [Warden]

If you've spent your week doing selfish things like working hard, playing with your kids and having face to face interactions with friends and family, then you might have missed this monstrous act of violence perpetrated against all women everywhere (and those who identify as such), including those who were born in the distant past, but were likely harmed by the unprecedented rippling effect of an event so unfathomably evil that it warped the time/space continuum and changed the very course of human history.

Content warning: The following picture contains graphic, implied verbal violence.

69865099-93b7-411c-953b-7ad131f0ff5e-large16x9_03.26rocks1.jpg

OMG throwing rocks at girls is NOT OKAY and NOT FUNNY.

The usual outrage junkies on Facebook and Twitter banded together and made sure they got their scalp, of course. Here's the inevitable forced apology, made under the threat of a planned store protest.

To whom we have offended with our recent billboard, please accept our apologies. We do not condone violence of any kind toward any being. We are humble enough to realize when we make a mistake and humble enough to realize the context in which we are speaking. We did not intend to cause controversy and our billboard communicated something we did not intend. We intended the billboard as a play on words to encourage the loving act of gift giving and are deeply saddened that it offended anyone.

Prior to this, the owners appeared on some cable news outlets to address the "controversy." I think they missed an opportunity here to show some backbone and slap down these digital hooligans.

Rather than apologize, they could have amped up the aggression by responding, "Well, we're not too worried. The kind of people who lose their minds over an innocent turn of phrase aren't our customer base--they're far too ugly and hateful for any man to gift them with something so thoughtful and precious as fine jewelry, so we can safely ignore their tantrums."

Oh, sure there would have been a shit storm. Good for them. They could have ridden it for two weeks on the cable outlets and scored themselves some free PR.

I'd lay down money that the response would have been largely positive and resulted in increased sales. People are fed up with all this chicken-shit bullying and, as Trump has shown us, these hypocritical scolds only have the power you grant them.

29 God almighty, this is stupidity on a heretofore unseen scale, for fuck's sake.

I had an art teacher once who cautioned about anything in a painting being 'too precious'. It's an interesting life lesson, too. Of course there are a FEW things that are really precious, like our loved ones, but in the current climate it is really easy to decide non-precious items are really precious. Those really important things? Think about it... are they REALLY all that?

Here is an example of precious in language - a play on words, that twenty years ago would have resulted in some sarcasm from observers and laughs, has been targeted for ire. I keep thinking the Ire Pool (tm) will eventually be drained, but I despair of that now.

78 I think it all depends on what Trump decides to DO about Syria.

I heard some Congressperson soundbite on the radio, and he said, I don't want to telegraph what the administration might do - which, I will note, is a different statement than saying I don't want to dictate the administration's actions - but the best thing we can do about Syria right now is get rid of the safe have for terrorists in there.

I don't recall the Congresscritter's name so I can't say what he might be speaking to, and I also can't say that his choice of the word telegraph means what it sounds like, that he knows and is announcing in advance....

BUT - if Trump pivots off of this to beating the everloving piss out of ISIS sooner...well, I'll allow it.

Tillerson said "there is no doubt" Syria's govt did the bombing.

Well, Syria is admitting they did drop bombs there at the time. But they say one of the bombs hit ISIS' chemical stash, thus the release of chemicals.

Why use chemical weapons in the first place?
And then why deny it?

It seems like the whole point of that bombing was to hit ISIS. Why is it so hard to believe ISIS stored chemical weapons in buildings with civilians acting as human shields?

Anyway, the winner here is.....ISIS, not Assad. None of this makes any sense.

It's not really crazy to say. Not at all. The fact they we want to say it "sounds crazy" demonstrates our conditioning about this stuff. Which is denying reality.

When I was a young stupid kid in my 20s, I was mad at Bush the Elder for not taking out Saddam. They were damned right, and Bush I was the last administration that had people in the foreign policy and national security apparatus who had sense.

From Clinton on, every decision we've made as been about the worst thing possible amongst the option.

Going into Iraq was stupid. And then pulling out once we had fucked up the whole balance of power was even more stupid.

Saddam was what was keeping the ISIS head choppers at bay. Without a brutal dictator, they go full head chopper and rapey.

226 Re: Syria

It's a clusterfuck. On the whole, I want to help nations. I hated what happened in Ukraine and Georgia. I don't like bullies; whether it is a guy beating up someone in a playground or a dictator causing wholesale suffering. As a human, someone who has been tormented by bullies, I hate that.

But I also realise that the ME, Syria in particular, is a fucking mess. It is difficult sometimes who to sort out as the best/worst. ISIS is a major problem however, not just because of the death and destruction, the persecution, rape and cruelty, but because they have supplanted al Qaeda in the jihad and recruitment department. They are a definite threat.

New administrations are tested every time, to see if they are weak. Hurling some missiles and sending a message to Assad is probably not the worst thing we could do. That being said, I agree with what another poster stated; did we not know about the chemical weapons? Either way, is this a case of the Intelligence community trying to fuck with Trump because they don't like him (didn't know or didn't tell)? If they are purposely withholding or so occupied with other matters they're not doing proper intel on a perpetual hotspot, a lot of heads need to roll.

The fake news told us that because of the remote location in Syria, we weren't able to get investigators to the scene.

But those Cameras were there -- already there, ready to go. And the video was quickly circulated throughout the world.

It's just peculiar that a professional camera crew was at the ready at the scene in the middle of Syria.

He's not remotely the good guy. He is Russia and Iran's proxy, and murdering his own people is as powerful a recruiting tool as there is for ISIS, Al Qaeda and other Jihadists.
BTW, Assad, Russia and Iran aren't even going after ISIS. They're deliberately trying to destroy the relative moderates in order to force a binary choice between them and ISIS.

I was against taking sides with Assad's opponents from the get go because I was pretty sure what might come after him could and probably would be worse. And I still think that or a variation of that, which I think is more likely today, that Syria breaks up into a non-country. Which is also not really in our interests. And I still stand by that, HOWEVER, IF Assad is launching chemical attacks he has to be punished and reminded that the pussie is not in the White House anymore and he has to behave like a human being or else. We can play both sides

Most seem to be has been tv actresses (except for Sharon Osborn). I don't know any of the people they like to talk about. Today's outrage was the woman shacking up with a guy named Belafonte. He got the nanny pregnant and suggested that she stay with them and raise the kid. Of course, they were so indignant about that. Funny, but I've never heard them say a word against Muslims or Sharia law.

And they thought it was totally acceptable for some woman to have a "transgender" five year old. "She didn't lose a son. She gained a daughter". Yet they seem to have enough viewers to stay on the air.

Assad used chemical weapons to strike fear in his enemies. An artillery bombardment that killed twice as many wouldn't have had nearly the psychological impact. It would have been business-as-usual for the muzzies.

if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may
come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.

457 And it can be argued that OUR entering WW1, making it an Allied Victory, instead of a negotiated Peace... set the stage for WW2...

Because socialism wasn't going to start a war towards the middle of the 20th century anyway, right?

I don't see Assad and Russia as a larger threat than Militant Islam... but maybe that because I've never been shot at by a Russian, just Moslems....

If Assad wasn't under pressure of losing everything, Syria would be back to providing safe haven for jihadi training camps, like they did when the jihadis spouted Marxism to get cash and guns from the Soviets. The Russians -- or Turks -- would be just as eager to set those camps up again, to use against the west and Israel.

(The Russians have to be trying to figure out how to take Israel's new massive natural gas field out of play. Another intifada or invasion, timed right, might do it. At the least, if they can keep control of the Palestinians, they can use them to drum up anti-Israeli sentiment in Europe.)

Taking Assad's chemical weapons off the table reduces his power, makes it more likely the war will drag on, chewing up more jihadis and denying any of them a safe haven.

Back when GPS was a new invention, and 24-hour coverage was not yet achieved, my boss and I were the first two engineers in the navigation Dept. at McDonnell Douglas Astronautics, in St Louis, to work on adding GPS to the Tomahawk's navigation system.

I remember seeing a classified video back then, showing ONE of these beauties hitting a concrete bunker - blew it to smithereens, with huge slabs of concrete flying through the air. Depending on which report you hear, Trump sent either FORTY, or over FIFTY. That airbase is just someplace you would not want to have been today!!

468 Careful, Optimizer, or the NeverTrumpers will declare you a war criminal. (And don't bother telling me to 'fuck off'; I'm hitting the ONT now.)

469 ...the NeverTrumpers that is; not you, Optimizer.

470 All your opinions on Syria are irrelevant until the great Egg McMuffin tells us what he thinks.

So cool you got to work on that. The boyfriend worked at Texas Instruments for a while doing terrain following/terrain avoidance programs for jets, did some test flights to get telemetry.

McD-D was a great company. Sad they merged with Boeing. =|

472 U-Building - Word! Maybe it's Microsoft Office's offices. Not an Excel-ent idea for a building in any case but there'd be a great Outlook from the top-most, but hard-to-Access suites. I do believe I've Exchanged some PowerPoints with this comment.

The correct answer:

"We are sorry that there are people too stupid to get the humor of a play on words.
It must suck to be them.
It must suck harder to be offended over humor and miss out on shopping in our wonderful store.
Man and women of good humor and good cheer are welcome to shop with us."

474 "36
15 This is what companies never seem to understand. 99% of the outrage brigade was never and will never be a customer."

99% are not even offended. It's just a power play.
