Did Obama Illegally Divert Money From Fannie and Freddie Mae to Prop Up Obamacare?

Might be another scandal from the Scandal-Free Administration (TM).

Note that this story started with allegations from Jerome Corsi, Alex Jones, and InfoWars -- however, it seems to be snowballing into a genuine story, not just a speculation or rumor.

After the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, Obamacare opponents in the House of Representatives shrewdly refused to fund handouts to insurance companies to subsidize health insurance premiums for lower-income individuals. Since the primary purpose of the legislation was to provide subsidized health insurance for struggling Americans, Obamacare was left in a lurch.

The executive branch tried everything from deceptive accounting to shell games to move money from one pot of government funds to the Obamacare till. Ultimately, a federal judge stepped in and ruled that the Department of Health and Human Services could not redirect other federal funds to pay for the subsidies.

Within weeks, however, the subsidies were miraculously funded, against the will of Congress.

Recently revealed documents appear to confirm that the sudden influx of Obamacare funds was money the Obama administration diverted from Fannie and Freddie.

As these additional details emerged, respected financial reporters such as Maria Bartiromo of Fox News and the Fox Business Network began lambasting Obama for his dishonest budgetary tactics.

Fannie and Freddie have shareholders -- and the shareholders are suing, making the claim, basically, that Obama embezzled them.

Update: More background from ZeroHedge, including a bit I'd forgotten -- the House of Representatives sued over this practice in 2014.

Tucker Carlson talked about this a couple of nights ago. The discussion begins at 35:50 (near the end of the show). Josh Rosner, managing director of Graham Fischer Management Company (no, I don't know who he is or what that is) calls this "a simple theft."

Thanks to Jack Straw.

Given that the working definition for "illegally," as far as I can tell in today's day and age is something along the lines of "when a Republican or conservative person does something that gives a Democrat or liberal teh sadz that the media can jump on," no, I do not think Obama did this illegally.

Now that they are gone, much is coming out. Like the new info on Conservatives being targeted by the IRS.

But, new things are popping up constantly. Another reason the Democrats are going crazy. They can't hide everything now that the GOP is in charge.

Unbelievable. So much dirt. So much to undo.

But nobody had any fucking standing to call it illegal or something.

But FF aren't federal agencies per se. They're parastatal. Which opens up a *whole lot* of very interesting questions about law and liability in such situations.

139 As soon as y'all understand this the better:

Once upon a time, America had slaves. Even if you did not have ancestors in America at that time, or lived in a state without slavery and personally had nothing to do at all with slavery, if you are white, or something close to white, you are personally responsible for every single act of slavery.

To begin to atone for our collective White Sins, White America had to elect a black man.

This black man, who represents all Slaves, is above the law. He can do no wrong, and no matter what he does, he cannot be punished, because any wrongdoing he might do will never EVER be more than the collective sins of the White American in regards to slavery.

The same holds true for any Black in his Administration.

The sooner Whitey understands this the better it will be for everyone.

Huh? Who is pushing for that? Nobody. Mnuchin has already said he wants to return the GSE's to private ownership and nobody at the banks that I know is pushing that crap.

236 off topic but noticed at Breitbart:

Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) announced on the
Senate floor Wednesday that they will not allow a filibuster of Neil
Gorsuch, and will instead vote for the constitutional option to restore a
simple-majority vote to confirm Supreme Court nominations, making that
outcome now almost certain.

[I happened to catch Murkowski on one of the C-Span channels earlier today and it sounded pretty obvious that she would support the nucular option, as Jimmy Carter would call it.]

Also, Stacey McCain suggested that Trump with eventually pardon Obama if O really gets caught up in shit, because it would otherwise probably lead to a real mess:

-Obama wants to go to court. He can drag out every last bit of punctuation in court, while his thralls tear up the country.
-Trump has far more to lose than to gain by actual litigation. What are you raaaaacists actually going to do to Teh One?
-By just putting it out there and pardoning Obama, Trump executes irrefutable judgement on Obama. And Donald can claim healing, bi-partisanship, hugs, and cupcakes.

Well, they've certainly been accused of it, as a quick search shows. The founder of ZH has some shady business practices in their past IIRC and a professor (who has a blog called streetwise professor) claims things about his family's past in Bulgaria with the KGB. Someone might be able to unravel that.

They *do* tend to take the Russia Today view of things like Georgia and Syria and the Ukraine.

Also, it's hard to get very far into the comments without something about TEH JUICE!!!!!!

286 I don't think that's ever been proven that Zerohedge is some Russian front.

I thought Bloomberg exposed who they were and it wasn't actual Russians from my recollection. Wasn't it former Wall Street traders?

99% of what they do is expose Wall Street and question our economy, areas of foreign policy that have to do with Russian influence is a pretty minor piece

I agree the comments sections is a lot of stupidity, but the actual articles are pretty first rate in my opinion. Way better than most political blogs

You can very easily find who "Tyler" is at ZH. It's actually a few guys, one of whom lives a stones throw from me.

Yes, they are very Russian oriented in their POV. While the main guy is Eastern European, he definitely has a pro Russia slant on everything. You can pretty much predict what they will write.

I will say they are formerly, anyway, both competent financial people. But their view definitely comports with their site banner

347 This is fascinating, in that the courts have already ruled against the last government.

All Trump has to do is announce that an internal review has indicated that the trial court ruling is correct, the process is in fact illegal, any appeal is unlikely to succeed, and the Trump Administration will end the process pursuant to the ruling.

I so disagree with this rather strongly (would you expect anything less than a strong emotion from me on a movie subject?).

Dune is actually not that long of a novel once you factor in plot and character. It's actually the weird edge details that dominate most of the book. The book is also heavily non-cinematic.

I think it's easily possible to make a 2-3 hour movie that captures the basic ideas of the book without just recreating every little memorable moment from the book. We already got the lavishly faithful adaptation with the SciFi miniseries, and it just highlighted the book's uncinematic qualities.

The mini-series was a European production and it showed. It held closer to the book but the sets, costumes, and acting were sub-par. Lynch's Dune had the feel of the book nailed. The problem was the effects were horrible and there were some serious script mistakes.

I have a post about movie adaptations in the pipeline that deals with Dune directly, but here's a preview:

David Lynch tried to replicate every memorable moment from that book in movie form, overloading it with so much that it's nearly impossible to actually get into the movie. No one has approached that adaptation cinematically yet, and I think the Denis might be the guy to do it.

As a movie, you need to cut a lot of it, reveal a lot visually without dialogue, and trust your audience's intelligence.

Ehh it was lame but not entirely without potential. It was kind of a better Star Trek Episode (season 4, two-parter) than it was a movie.

It had a few colossally stupid bits (like the "let's run through glass in slowmo like Blade Runner" scene), but, better cut and slightly better cast and it would have been fine.

This is what happens when you're not making a movie to make a movie but to honor a cult.

Actually I wish one of them would take a shot at the Heinlein juveniles. You could actually string most of them together as being set in the same universe at different points in the time line. Jupiter Ascending had potential and neat ideas but the W brothers are insane.

417 You know if Alex Jones kept to the normal conspiracy stuff he would be right 80% of the time. That is how far off in bizarro land the Democrats are now. I mean just make up something you could image a Prog doing and wait...it will become truth soon enough.

Just stay away from the gay frogs orgy conspiracies. Then again considering the Progs are close to Frogs.

Be honest does anything surprise you when it comes to Progressives anymore?

418 I thought Barry said that if the president did it, it wasn't illegal.

Or was that a different Chicago politician?

419 That would be fun.

And it would have the advantage of being adaptations of books that have never been adapted before.

They could have fun with the subversive little bits the Heinlein liked to throw in. For example, in The Star Beast the boy was concerned about being alone with the girl because it might sully his reputation.

----------------------------------------

Eh it would be hard to keep that from becoming FalloutVerse, which is nihilistic crap.

Entertainers really can't keep themselves from being cynical about the 50s.

It could. But sometimes they do get things right and the stories themselves don't happen in the 50's.

I was disgusted with the origins of Alex Jones--9/11 conspiracy and all that--but lately, he has been spot on. Yep, the "Progressive" Left even made Alex Jones look cool, and Right.

I really began to like him when he punched out Cenk Ugyur and bitch slapped his commie squeeze.

GREAT idea.

430 292 If I were Trump I would blame it all on Val Jar and the gang and actually DEFEND Obama. "They were willing to taint his legacy to earn cheap political victories."

Then prosecute the fuck out of them and clip his wings.

Fuck the 11th dimensional chess. Start at the top. Then the underlings may think twice.

I do my best to do right everyday. Just because one has a DC zip code doesn't mean their efforts are legit.

Podesta and Val Jar were the top. It's in Podesta's emails. Obama was just the front man for their shit for 8 years, and they were certain they were about to get 8 more with queen HRC. They're fucked if anybody in DC has the brains and balls to take them down.
