Thread below the Gardening Thread: April 1, 2017 [KT]

Serving your mid-day open thread needs

Art today: Man self-identifies as a hen. And there's other trans news.

"Gender is basically a fashion choice". Except in cases of actual mental disorders. Can anything good come of this kind of stuff? Maybe a little in-fighting? Can't come too soon. Articulate rebel below the fold.

Hope you have a great day. It's April Fools Day, you know.

He would not discuss how the fire was started or why...

Aye, there's the rub.

They make it so hard for normal people to stay in their lives.

Recently, a relative told me that pro-lifers do not care about babies and their mothers. I told her that Crisis Pregnancy Centers are all about caring for babies and their mothers. I said nothing negative about lefties, but she responded with an ugly, abusive email about the dasterdliness of all non-leftists in every facet of their lives. It was a virtual fire hazard with all the straw men all over the place.

Particularly disturbing is the lack of self-awareness. She says those nasty conservatives blame the poor for being poor and then heaped disdain on my household because we are less prosperous than she is.

Yeah. I am just overwhelmed by her compassion and lack of judgementalism.

So it is with the NC 'Bathroom Bill'. The party of Radical Feminism is forced into bed with the assertion of the right of men to use women's restrooms, locker rooms etc.

Then of course, the same sort of logic applies to defending Rachel Dolezal, and, men competing as women in athletic competitions.

At the heart of all of this, of course, is the fact that the Left don't really care about any of it. The active players are just being used for fundraising and the creation of wedge issues that can be used to unravel the structure of civil society, i.e, the destruction of the bourgeoisie.

========================

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools

and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.

They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator.

145 My best April fool's joke was when I was hired into a company on April 1. I did well for a couple years, then my immediate supervisor left and the dept head gave me a ten per cent raise to keep me on, because they were fooked when my boss left.

I stayed but started interviewing because the dept head was a closet lesbian who had weird power trip issues and I felt like I was next on the chopping block.

sure enough, six months after she incentivized me to stay, she terminated me in a way that was designed to humiliate me and strip me of my dignity.

But I foiled them in their attempt to deny me UC benefits. I refused to sign the doc that itemized my alleged transgressions.

So I guess in a small way the joke was on them.
I got my CHECK!

155 So I had parent teacher meeting yesterday in my kids charter school. While waiting for one of our meetings I started reading some "letters" by students posted on the wall outside another classroom (3rd grade). Nothing unusual about that except they were to President Trump to express their opinion about his immigration policy, especially the supposed Muslim immigration ban. No surprisingly each and every one (about 20) of them talked about how horrible it was to keep people out of the country, nation of immigrants, don't be a meanie, don't hate etc... and other Dem talking points. Not a word about national security, terrorism or crime. Not one word.

WTF? Teacher clearly is guiding the students and has an agenda. Wasn't one of my kid's teacher but still pissed me off. Now this is a charter school and is far better than the public schools but I keep running into this type of thing from time to time and always do my best to make sure my kids get other points of view without going into a rant. (My kids still get a heaping dose of Global Warming in their science classes. Very hard to counter that BS I've found.) Seem like the entire educational establishment is completely contaminated. Wow. That's really remarkable.

I think it pervades more than just the education system as well. A well-known regional Children's Hospital of which I have some knowledge recently sent out a mass communication to their employees encouraging them to be heroes, 'advocating' for children. Encouraging them to write to their representatives telling them to keep Obamacare in place, because the CBO had estimated decreased federal health care spending of some 880 billion (nearly a trillion) dollars over 10 years if Ryan's plan were enacted. They were to do this "for the children."

Yet, as you pointed out, not one word about where that 880 billion dollars comes from or what it means for the children of families who pay taxes, or what it means to children of future generations. Not a word about unnecessary spending or inefficiencies within the hospital. Just 'grab that federal money' because, it's for the children. Not a word.

I finally figured after several years that out resumes need to be short, to the point and only highlight relevant skills/experience with no BS information in order to get a call. No, it was entirely about money. It became about big money after they got caught. Per the NHTSA:

"The current penalty for failing to meet CAFE standards is $5.50 per tenth of a mile per gallon under the target value times the total volume of vehicles in the manufacturer's fleet for a given model year."

Nearly a billion in fines from automakers since the mid '80s. Most European companies pay between one and twenty million every year.

Ha! Nice.

I had a 3 day orientation class with civilian counselors that was pretty much "please don't drink and drive and rape and murder and do drugs, you idiot reprobates, we know you will anyway, but at least we can say we told you not to". Once you realized that the counselors had to be understanding and non-judgmental, it was a blast.

Right on! Knowing the proper way to make guacamole is the perfect analogy for tidying up Washington and getting back to the business of helping people. We really need someone rock-solid like McCain with no skeletons in his closet to distract us from this important work. I for one look forward to moving past all this nonsense once and for all and returning to normalcy.

The only people at my campus who need to be trained on how to not be jerks are the ones who can't be fired.

Difficult to keep as a domestic pet, though.

Seriously, one summer at Scout camp, the Nature Conservation staff got hold of a hawk chick that had been abandoned by its mother, and we kept it all summer in a YUGE outdoor hawk cage made out of chicken wire. Chicken wire does work for hawks, too.

Great to watch it "hunt" when we let some little mouse into the cage. Same thing as feeding the mice to constrictor snakes in their cages, like Black snakes and Hognose snakes.

I feel for you. My textbooks are almost 20 years old and on the rare occasion I use them, the students laugh about how many illustrations show people with crutches, wheelchairs, etc. It was from a time in which "ableism" was the enemy.

Just this week, I had to inform one of my students that Spanish doesn't have the s/he option; the default gender is masculine. She's very bright and picked up the idea because the US materials follow the California and Texas guidelines have to be "sex-neutral" but those from Spanish-speaking countries use their own grammar rules.

Speaking of which, this year I became aware of (or is that "woke to"?) the term LatinX. I don't know how it's supposed to be pronounced, but I like La Tinx because it sounds like a special sort of bladder infection.
