Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deliberately targeted Austin, Texas after talks between the agency's officials and local authorities went awry, U.S. Magistrate Judge Andrew Austin said during a public court session Tuesday. Immigration officials reported at least 50 people were arrested in Austin - typically described as a sanctuary city for its welcoming stance on immigration - early last month after a federal crackdown began following President Donald Trump's inauguration.
The raids began after Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez met with an ICE field office director to discuss the federal government's new immigration guidelines under Trump. I would toss old Sally in the klink too. But this is a good start. Next up places like Seattle, Chicago, San Fran and NYC. went to a preschool open house whatever at the library. Just table set up with pamphlets and some broads standing around, all the preschools in the area. I was interested in the catholic schools so I talked to the 2 that were there. Distinctly unimpressed. I asked the one, All these pamphlets and brochures are things on the website, so tell me something I can't find there? She says We follow the NYS curriculum. And I'm thinking Whoa, Imma pay you to do what the public schools do? Such a deal! Sign me up! I asked about different orientations, like how Jesuits approach education one way, the Bosco people another and the lady was totes clueless. She just went back to NYS curriculum.... OK so what now? Well, it's still recommended as one of the "clear liquids" you have to drink prior to a colonoscopy (as long as you stay away from red and purple flavors because of the food coloring)-- I found eating plain peach or apricot Jello to be much better than drinking endless glasses of chicken bouillon and ginger ale. At least the Jello is somewhat filling. Posted by: Basement Cat at March 30, 2017 08:57 PM (3C9q2) I did the chicken broth and popsicle (non red or purple) diet in preparation for mine. Due to the binge of salt and sugar, I actually weighed more following the procedure than prior. It's too bad I can't stand Jello, as that would be a good choice for my 5-year follow-up. STEP 1: Congress doesn't repeal Obamacare! This law supersedes all other laws, taxes, mandates, coverage requirements, regulations or prohibitions, state or federal." Funny, I haven't watched a second of Carlson since his new show began, but have enjoyed the capsule summaries here and elsewhere.
For some reason I have watched a youtube of him speaking to the firefighters' union meeting in DC. He was excellent, and funny. He's always been a witty fellow, and smart. Only sad moment was the eye-rolling butt-kissing he did - pretty brief, almost pro forma I guess - to the union itself. I say sad only because I have the highest regard for public service and therefore find public sector unions an indefensible abomination that has already greatly compromised the very concept of "service". Anyway, Carlson's simple and first-hand style of discussion, using neighbors and other Beltway creatures as examples, was very effective. SpaceX has successfully launched the world's first re-used (and re-usable) rocket.
That's the most important news story of today by far. The Space Age began 60 years ago. At the beginning, both the Us and the USSR used modified ICBMs to sent satellites and humans into orbit. Since the primary mission of ICBMs was to send nukes halfway around the world, reusability was not a concern. Once they were unleashed for real, we were at Armageddon and the only question was whether we could shoot more of them faster than what the enemy could shoot at us. As the Space Age went on, single use disposable rockets became the norm. They were steadily upgraded and their performance improved, but they were still expendable. The Space Shuttle was the first attempt at a partially reusable orbital vehicle. But the orbiter had to be extensively torn down and rebuilt after every flight. The solid rocket boosters were parachuted into the ocean, but they were basically just hollow metal tubes once their propellant was exhausted. The Falcon 9 first stage is a liquid-fueled rocket. It has tanks, piping, electronics, guidance computers, steering fins, and retractable landing legs. This is a whole different beast than the Shuttle SRBs. Reusing an orbital first stage has never been done before, until tonight. This is an historic moment in the history of space flight. And it's only right and proper that Launch Complex 39A should be the site of this feat. Posted by: rickl at March 30, 2017 09:16 PM (sdi6R) 156

No reasonable person, who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution." gNewt, not to get into the weeds on that Coulter thing, but it seems a bit less clever than it wants to be (and I like it, and generally like clever approaches of that sort).
Specifically, I don't see how the proposed national market legislation would end the disastrous minimum essential benefit requirements in O-care - if they did, thanks to the "notwithstanding any other provision of law" language, then you have an O-care repeal. So, it *is* still a repeal, at least partially, on a major item. Recall that the states have long f***ked up health insurance themselves, with their own minimum standards, and other kinds of cost-shifting and welfare. Accounting for a large part of the insurance inflation the last 25 years. Which doesn't change the fact that merely turning back the clock to the pre-O-care situation for the individual/small group market would be a spectacular improvement, and urgently needed relief for millions. Business lunches? Yep. Business dinners? Nope. Invite your spouses or other co-workers/clients. No reason to engage in conduct that looks like a date. There may be room for an emergency exception -- but as a general rule, no, there is no reason for a married man to have dinner alone with a woman who is not his wife. I hate to stop by just to ask for something, but I need some prayers for my father-in-law. He's 88, been in poor health for 10+ years and just got a call from the BIL that he's fallen, the ambulance is there and transporting him to the hospital. No info on what is wrong at this point. To be honest, at this point, I'm not sure what to ask you to pray for. He has had a very low quality of life since his heart attack in 2005. He has been in and out of the hospital for years. I guess I just want some peace for him in some way. Whether that means healing or a release from this life, only God knows that. Thanks. You guys always come through in the time of need. I posted this in an earlier thread, but got Willowed:
I had an insurance sales guy come by my office today, because I hadspoken to him about some very specific insurance needs I had. I made sure to tell himI wanted to talk only about those very specific needs. So, he shows up, and what do I get? Death by Powerpoint. His personapersonaly, the company history, etc. I reminded him I had very specific needs, and little time. The rambling continued. I reminded him again. He skipped 2 slides and kept plodding along. I finally said "give me a quote on whatI asked you about, or stop wating my time with this extraneous crap I am not going to buy, as I told you from the start. He slams the lid on laptop and says "I have a process I have to go through, Sir!". Not with me you don't, Sport. I manage approa hing a thousand sales people. This drone would not last a week with me. Posted by: Flyboy at March 30, 2017 09:54 PM (4fWyx) 277

Debbie's singing was dubbed in that, wasn't it. And IIRC, ironically the one who actually sang it was the actress who played the part of the gal with the terrible voice... Or do I have that mixed up? Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at March 30, 2017 09:37 PM (aKqWT) Reynolds' voice was dubbed in two songs but "Good Morning" wasn't one of them. She was an accomplished singer and had several hit songs. I believe that "Tammy" was the number one song for quite a few weeks in the late fifties. I pray for what is best in God's eye. We are merely spectators on God's Green Earth.
I merely pray that the Family can accept and move-on from the loss. I pray for love from all corners and a buoyant soul. I'm just a guy. So I pray for those in need of love, because that's all I can do. Posted by: Slapweasel, (Cold1) (T) at March 30, 2017 10:02 PM (6gk0M) 291

"254 Um, the space shuttle used re-usable rockets but I guess they were considered just "boosters" instead of the main rockets and engines for launch? I dunno whatever, it worked.
---------------------------------------------- SpaceX has done nothing first. Supposedly they will do/are doing it cheaper." Ahem. Nobody has done anything like what SpaceX just accomplished. The Shuttle main tank (an expensive piece of Li-Al alloy) was disposable. The orbiter was a very expensive and heavy toy that was refurbishable/rebuildable. The engines were frequently inspected and required much maintenance. The tiles on the orbiter were fragile and required enormous time and effort to keep operational. The OMS used toxic hypergolic fuel. The shuttle fleet needed a standing army of ~10,000 people and each flight cost on the order of 1 GigaBucks. In contrast, the Falcon 9, even without reuse, is the cheapest rocket that can send ~5500 kg satellites to GTO (~60 MegaBucks). With reuse, costs can go down dramatically. They are still learning where to make design changes for quick reusability, but the goal in the very near future is to mature he F9 design to the point where all you have to do is replace the shock absorbers in the landing legs, recharge it with N2 and He and refuel it and you're good to go. This is a YUGE step forward! And the real kicker is that they are landing the rocket as God and Robert Heinlein intended. Posted by: MichiCanuck at March 30, 2017 11:11 PM (eR2aG) 298

There's a couple of things Mollie Hemingway doesn't seem to have mentiponed in her article on the Pences and their personal rules.
One is, these are their personal rules, boundaries that they've chosen to set for themselves, and that, lefties, is how this differs from sharia. Sharia is for everybody! Yes, these rules will also apply you liberals who are so open-minded about excusing honest-to-goodness Islamic barbarism while nursing a lifelong grudge against every Christian who doesn't say, "wow, that's so awesome!" when you tell him or her that you're bisexual. The other is, they set these boundaries not just to avoid temptation, but also to avoid the mere appearance of a possible sex scandal. This is a smart way to go, especially with the networks constantly churning out fake news to make everything you do look bad. Remember 2012? How the Fake News Networks jumped all over the fact that John McCain had had dinner a few times with a woman who wasn't his wife? Mollie wrote a good article, otherwise, but I do have to knock a point or two off for her neglecting to mention those two points. Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler. Welcome to Trumpdome, bitch! at March 31, 2017 12:16 AM (0OG8D) 304
Ace, the article particularly mentions that this is the first reused orbital rocket. The boosters on the Space Shuttle were used only use in low altitudes and discarded well before the ship reached orbit. Therefore, the external boosters were sub-orbital rockets.

See, I'm no fan of McCain, but I can totally buy that nothing untoward actually happened between him and that female acquaintance.
If for no other reason, then because close proximity to his personality would render her lady-parts as dry as the Namib Desert and as frigid as the empty space between Neptune and Pluto. Yeah, I know he's still a powerful man, and that would on some level attract many women, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here and believe that his odious personality won out in a battle against his powers of influence. You're welcome, McCain! However, the appearance of impropriety was still there, and, oh, how the Fake News seized upon it. So, yes; it is very smart of Mike Pence to avoid situations where there's even the faintest hint of the appearance of impropriety. And you know it's the smart thing to do, because liberals are making fun of him for it. They can't accuse him of looking like he's cheating on his wife, so they make fun of him for avoiding the appearance that he might be cheating on his wife. Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler. The Shuttle was a manned space platform that could take seven people into space and back. It cost a billion bucks a flight, required an astonishing amount of expensive refurbishing between flights - the solid rocket boosters were so expensive to rebuild that it would have been cheaper to not even bother (which is why the SLS will just ditch the boosters and not reuse them), the fragile tiles were all unique and were a maintenance nightmare of the first order, the big external tank was completely destroyed each flight, and everything had to be pieced together slowly.
The Falcon 9 is designed (in its as yet-unflown manned variant) to take seven people into space, costs less than anything else to go to orbit even expendable, is basically refurbished in one piece near the launch site, and comes back in such good shape that SpaceX estimates that turnaround times of 24 hours are possible once they get used to the process of servicing a landed booster, and would only need serious maintenace every ten flights or thereabouts. That is a huge, huge difference in reusability. Posted by: Locarno at March 31, 2017 12:42 AM (HhYvn) 307
Also, SpaceX actually recovered the fairing (satellite holder) from orbit tonight as well. They hadn't even tried to recover that before, but managed to succeed on the first time. That means the only parts of the rocket that are tossed are:
(1) The landing legs, which apparently were designed as disposable for safety reasons, (2) The grid fins, which get absolutely beat to hell on re-entry (one caught on fire in today's flight). SpaceX mentioned that they've given up on the current design and are designing a tougher, reusable version to fly later. (3) The entire second stage, which right now is just allowed to burn up on re-entry. The landing legs and grid fins are very cheap pieces of hardware, comparatively. The only big loss is the second stage, and, as mentioned, that's a lot less than the cost of the first stage. The first stage is 75% of the cost, and Elon Musk said the fairings cost a couple million (so, say, another 5%). That's a lot of saved money over the course of a hundred flights.
