The Morning Report 3/30/17

Morning Report intro.jpg

Good morning, kids. Our top story for today is sanctuary city sedition. Seattle is suing the Trump administration for threatening to withhold funding for its illegal shielding of criminal aliens from deportation. I'm sure the 9th Circus will find that flagrantly breaking the law is totes Constitutional. Other than that, Bill DeBolshevik went on a Twitter rant against the owner of the Raiders for the Vegas move. I will say that the doofy Marxist said one thing that I do agree with; I hate when teams extort municipalities into using taxpayer dollars to build their venues. But beyond that, it was pure, pig-ignorant class warfare bilge which, sadly, too many Americans swallow whole. Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

6 I have always sen the cities who pay out taxpayer money for football stadiums as suckers. But why should the mayors be concerned they are not spending their own money. And their claims that the venues bring in millions is BS.

On this day in 1981 Ronald Reagan was shot in the chest outside a Washington, D.C., hotel by John Hinckley, Jr.; three others were wounded in the same incident. Press secretary James Brady died 33 years later and his death was ruled a result of the shooting. Hinckley got off on an insanity plea and was released from institutional psychiatric care in 2016.

83 Ann Coulter isn't stupid, so she must just be disingenuous.

The fact is, and this is a fact: there isn't a hospital in America that can deny anyone care, whether they have insurance or not. That's the law.

If you show up at Hospital X's door with a sore throat, and they say Go Away, and it turns into an infection that kills you? Your family sues the hospital, and they win - every time.

So the hospital covers you, insurance or not. Serious or not. American citizen, or not.

Then one of two things happens:

    1. The hospital JACKS up its rates so that those who have money and/or insurance get to pay absurd fees for care, and the hospital profits, or

    2. The hospital JACKS up its rates so that those who have money and/or insurance get to pay absurd fees for care, and the profit goes out of business because there aren't enough wealthy/insured people in that area. Then the poor who no longer have a hospital... they come to the rich hospitals.

It's a virtuous circle, for sure.

Sorry, but Americans MUST have healthcare or the laws must be changed to allow hospitals to deny care. If you are good with saying no to insurance, then you have to have the brass to say "die on the doorstep - we ain't helping you and you can't sue us for that."

"Part 2" of Ann's plan had better address that. It had better come up with some basic level of "health stamps" that can be used to buy insurance so that we can then say "sorry, but there is no excuse - we'll treat you, but you will have to pay for it, and there is no bankruptcy protection on that. You will pay for this 'uncovered' bypass for the rest of your life - no matter how short it is."

94 That was the message from the three-star heads of Marine Corps and Navy personnel during a Capitol Hill hearing Wednesday. The hearing was meant to address competition for trained pilots from the private industry, an issue that has bled the Air Force of a number of pilots.

The Navy and Marine Corps have had fewer issues with losing pilots to private airlines but both officers say there is a growing frustration with the lack of flying hours for pilots and critical spare parts for maintainers, a byproduct of the last several years of budget cuts.

Thats something that is beginning to eat away at retention, said Vice Adm. Robert Burke, chief of naval personnel.

Also, dual-military couples can receive two BAH payouts for their shared housing costs, a situation critics have long decried as unfair and fiscally unwise for the government.

Many people NEVER put in 20 years and get out without any benefits what so ever. And the 'Pension" you talk about is not a fortune for most who do put in 20. And the same can be said about most public service jobs in the civilian sector except with much greater pay outs. Not to mention some of those in the Military actually put their lives and limbs on the line repeatedly and the majority ( Enlisted and Junior Officers) don't necessarily get out with any tranlatable skills in the civilian sector and are ill prepared for life after the Military

As long as there's an earmarked amount for housing, and as long as arguments are made that military families aren't able "to get ahead" by pocketing a little bit of their housing cost due to "greedy landlords," the problem maintains.

Here's one way to start to show clearly what are the ties and networks among those who perform the vaunted "peer review" -- publish their names and affiliations in a section at the end of the article. This would not only show who aided and abetted the publication of the work, it might also cause them to do their job correctly, thereby improving the product.

It would not violate the spirit of confidentiality to undertake review if a work submitted for publication because, after all, the article made it to press. Confidentiality is a weak "must have" while the review is ongoing, not once the product is issued. In this way the publishers of journals may decide where they stand on the quality of their product -- to keep secret the names and affiliations of the reviewers, IMHO, would speak volumes regarding their confidence in their system's ability to survive full disclosure.

186 Good morning Hordelings. We're all in our places with sunshine-y faces. Right? Here's a morning devotion for this 30th day of March.....
    ----------------------------------------

"I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving-kindness I have drawn you."
    Jeremiah 31:3

How many times have you heard someone say (or perhaps said it yourself): "I love you when you -----", "I love you because ----", "I love you if you . . . ?"

Compare those phrases with these: "I love you even though ----", "I love you in spite of----", "I love you, period.... I simply love you." The first set of words are examples of conditional love; the second set are examples of unconditional love. God loves the second way: "I love you, period."

God has always loved that way. In fact, He told His Chosen People, Israel, that He did not choose them because they were a large and impressive people (Deuteronomy 7:7). He chose Abraham, their forefather, because He loved him. And because of His love for Abraham, Israel enjoyed God's love as well. Even when Israel was at her worst, God said through Jeremiah, "Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love."

Don't ever mistake the world's love (if, because, when) for God's love (no conditions). God's love for you never changes (2 Timothy 2:13).

Other than the military, that would be pretty much everybody in the Govt. It used to be we could count on conservative judges but since Wiki confirms everyone is pretty much bugged 24/7, that's been compromised if they have one spec of dirt. Gorsuch must be a boy scout and that is his only flaw in the eyes of Democrats aka the Bureaucracy. Must be why they want him rejected.

A conservative think tank with ties to the Trump administration is
reviving plans to drastically cut military housing allowance payouts,
calling them overly generous and ripe for abuse.

Instead, officials at the Heritage Foundation want to see lawmakers
adopt a plan to award troops a Basic Allowance for Housing only for
their rent or mortgage expenses, to ensure that excess funds arent being
used to pay for other unrelated costs.

Yeah? How about first you cut waste and abuse in Congress and then get back to me

Posted by: Nevergiveup at March 30, 2017 07:47 AM (KlI/a)

The problem is, greedy apartment owners near military bases know
exactly how much of an allowance they receive, and jack up rents to meet
those allowances. It's an ever-increasing rate. As soon as housing
allowances go up, so do rents, so the families never get ahead.

A better system would be nice. But blaming military families for
wanting a few more dollars in their own wallets ain't the problem.
    .
    .
.Another thing people don't remember is that the BAH rates are not supposed to cover just the actual rent, but other costs associated with housing like electric, heat, hot water, etc.

Used to be when you checked in to a new Duty Station you got put on the waiting list for Base housing and once you got "on base" housing you gave up your BAH and didn't pay for any housing expenses. Now that the Military has gotten out of administering their own housing and turned it over to Contractors for the most part, those days are long gone.

There was an alternate keyboard developed a while back named after its inventor Dvorak. The standard keyboard was actually designed to *slow down* typists, who kept jamming the keys because they typed so fast. With the advent of computer keyboards, jamming could not occur, so August Dvorak was able to introduce a more efficient layout. But like metric, it never caught on. So that was my "joke". 266 Coulter has the right idea. Make actual insurance available again. Obama and his henchmen made it illegal to buy insurance we want. We have to also fund the 50 perverse things we don't need, forced into our plans by Obama's liars. This was nothing but a massive tax on the middle majority, while Obama claimed costs would go down and no one making less than $250K/yr would see a nickel increase in taxes.

The $7000/yr premium increase was the stealth tax, while deductibles went to $6500 or more.

Rand Paul suggested something akin to Ann's Plan. I think he suggested giving the little guy power by letting groups like the NRA or the Farm Bureau sell group plans to their members (and eliminating the mandates on what to cover iirc). They claim insurance companies are getting rich, because they jack up rates, and government promised to make up for any losses, as well as subsidizing the plans.

    276 FCC-Privacy-Trump-Executive Order

First: Obama used his authority as president to issue an executive order bestowing upon the FCC the power to enforce 'privacy law' on internet service providers.

I'm not real clear on how he did this.

Congress, by comparison, passed legislation that defined 'privacy law' and gave enforcement authority to the Federal Trade Commission.

I am not a lawyer, and do not offer legal advice, and I'm not woke, and the coffee hasn't yet kicked in.

Apparently, Trump's executive order negating Obama's previous executive order, suspends the FCC authority to enforce 'internet privacy law' where Obama had managed to stack the FCC controlling legal authority with democrats or something.

So if you are drawing conclusions from news media reporting on this bewildering 'privacy law' authority, it would seem wise to remember that the news media can not be trusted.

Imma gonna go get 'nother cup of coffee.

354 Democrats say how "unprecedented" it is to withhold federal funds. A year ago Obama was threatening states to withhold highway and education funds unless they let men in the women's' showers. He was able to force a Chicago school to comply that way.

And Democrats briefly passed the Maloney Amendment to HR5055 which echoed Obama's one-man Executive Order banning funds for contractors like the Salvation Army unless they let men into the women's bathrooms.

You'll hear a lot about "Trump's immigration policies", but these are not Trump's policies; they are already existing black-letter federal law, passed by multiple Congresses and signed by presidents of both parties, unlike Obama's One-Man Repeal of Mother Nature.

His son smokes pot IIRC. I'm guessing there are homemade kilns for it and tobacco you can make out of refrigerators or old water heaters. A visit, a conversation, and the next thing you know Old Al had fired the kilns when he was younger, too.

I'm sure the manual corn-detasseling cleanup after the machines go through a cornfield is now a job that Americans won't do, but in the late 70s, it was a job that American teens would, and it was a fucking hot job. Paid well in teen-dollars, but damn.

388 Although yams and sweet potatoes are both angiosperms (flowering plants), they are not related botanically. Yams are a monocot (a plant having one embryonic seed leaf) and from the Dioscoreaceae or Yam family. Sweet Potatoes, often called 'yams', are a dicot (a plant having two embryonic seed leaves) and are from the Convolvulacea or morning glory family.

Both the HFC and Trump are serving useful functions in D.C.. I'd rather Trump be aligned with the HFC on almost everything ideologically, but it's just not ever going to be the case.

Politics is a game of inches, and Trump should provide us with cover to gain a few extra over the next few years. Because he's so heterodox, he can be used as both a carrot and stick with voters.

Maybe we should try to find some backbenchers in the House who vote with leadership all the time to target.

I was switching between F&F this morning and FBN.

Hilarious. FBN posted a Fox poll that said 33% of respondents wanted Trump to work on job creation, 25% wanted him to work on something else(don't remember what) , etc. Only 10% wanted Obamacare repealed and only !5% wanted lower taxes.

Within a few minutes of switching to F&F, they posted a poll showing 55% of respondents feel they pay too much in taxes.

Whoever they are paying to do "polling" is ripping them off bigly. Disregard anything that has Poll in it's description .

Posted by: #neverskankles at March 30, 2017 08:00 AM (vsYKI)

Yes, I am. Walmart didn't just move into all these towns (and I know it's not just military towns). They bought politicians along the way.

Yes. It's a conspiracy, if that's the word you want to use.

Or business as usual for this type of thing, which is really, not business at all. It's fascism."

The more I see things like this, the more convinced I am that Americans have a pathological hatred of success and see being successful as a criminal act infinitely more heinous than, say, murder. I've been in many military towns, having been an Army brat and a veteran, and I have yet to see one monopolized by an evil Walmart.

When Walmart hires a police force, sanctioned by the State, to FORCE us to buy from them, with a police officer's gun firmly placed at my temple, give me a call. Until then, if you don't like Walmart, ALL you need to do is not buy from them. Even where I'm at - the outer edge of nowhere - I have many other choices than Walmart. I'm betting you do too - but just prefer to bitch and moan about how evil Walmart is, because your REAL problem is that they are successful.

(America's long knives will come out for others. Apple, for instance, better be aware that this country is extremely hostile to success.)
