private to Jack Straw: agreed on rum being Nature's Perfect Food or whatever it is that you said. I do love rum.
Have been to the Cruzan distillery in St. Croix and it is the deal of the century. $5 for the tour. You get to see the molasses cooking and really get up close and personal to the process. At the end, you get to try 2 shots AND you get 2 mixed drinks. Did I mention $5? Despite the fact that Beam people bought this family business, it is still run like the family business. Same day went over to the Diageo "Captain Morgan Experience." Captain Morgan, the rum, has no real connection to STX, though Captain Morgan the pirate is rumored to have anchored there. But anyway, the "Experience" is a big corporate multimedia production chock full of commercials for Captain Morgan. For $10 you get to ride a little pirate ship themed tram around the plant and see, from the outside, the big industrial distillery. If you didn't know better it could be an oil refinery (like the one you can see from the parking lot). It is huge. Your fee gets you a token for 1 mixed drink. Can you tell which one I liked better? That's a tough one. A good friend of mine grew up in St Croix and moved back a couple years ago to be a charter captain. Bastard. When I lived in PR we used to do the tour when we were feeling particular broke or thirsty or both. They used to have a distillery right across San Juan harbor, might still be there for all I know. And back then the tour was free and so was the complimentary rum drinks on their outdoor patio. Yea it was Bacardi but it was free and we were young and stupid and I love me some rum. You inspired me to pour a Mt Gay and tonic. Cheers! Posted by: JackStraw at March 26, 2017 06:49 PM (/tuJf) 56

Back when I was a pup and stationed in Europe and traveling around the world I had this Armitron that had a good slide rule bezel (and the eyes to read it) and when I went to a new country I would just dial the exchange rate in. It must have been about $20 at the PX. It has been lost to time, but I loved that thing. And yeah, the dial was big.
My current stable of watches is an LG Urbane 2 SmartWatch (it has its own number! I can call you from my watch just like Dick Tracy!), and a Ferrari Lap Time (because I can't afford a 308 GTSi Magnum car), and a big dial Fossil Nate, and a Pulsar with an E6B slide rule that I seriously don't have the eyes to read the calculator, as well as the aforementioned Mr. Daddy 2.0.
