Happy St. Patrick's Day morons. Be safe out there. It is amateur night at the bars. Also, be careful if you partake too much green beer. It may give you the trots.

Anarchist Road Fixers

Dang. I'm finding it hard to hate this anarchist group. Portland anarchist road care, skilled workers who voluntarily fix roads when local government won't.

Protocol

Reason #345,672 why MSM numbers continue to plummet. In a break from tradition, Trump calls out Obama by name in budget document. I seem to recall Bush being blamed for just about everything. He may not have been named-named in a budget document, but saying "over the past eight years" is essentially saying Bush and ignoring every Obama speech blaming Bush is just dumb.

Cartman Remix

Student Debt

Student loan defaults soar as millions miss payments.

millions of people had not made a payment on $137 billion in federal student loans for at least nine months in 2016, a 14 percent increase in defaults from a year earlier. The consumer watchdog used the latest data from the Education Department, which manages $1.3 trillion in federal student debt owed by 42.4 million Americans.

Taxpayers on the hook for $1.3 trillion and rising.

Budget Cuts

Trump's drain-the-swamp budget puts GOP lawmakers to the test. They'll fail. The GOP has no spine and we're only taking about tiny cuts and already hearing how hard and difficult that'll be.

Yo-Yo Performance to Freebird

Video Games

Oh sure, blame video games for sexism.

Common Core

Not shocking. Common Core doesn't prepare students for college. Or real life.

Gunplay

So Buzzfeed attempted to run the John Wick 3 gun course.

Dog Video

This is one of the many data points that prove we are in a Revolution. When the political spectrum stops being a straight line and becomes a full circle with Left-Right alliances, then we are in a Revolution. Hence, Bernie and Trump.

Also see Tulsi Gabbard, Dennis Kusinich, and other lefties supporting Trump way more than the establishment center.

The dishonest unhinged Left are useful idiots for the global governance Marxists, which is what the center was revealed to be amd has been for a long time.

63 Read that book (A Higher Call) not long ago. There was some interesting stuff in there re "ethics" and honor the author (German pilot who spared the B-17) claimed were part of Luftwaffe credo, and affected behavior.

Dunno if his view was accurate for the Luftwaffe as a whole - seems the circle of elite and senior sorts he ran with did have a more "normal" professional and civilized approach to certain things.

Interesting, I do recall several cases of Luftwaffe officers intervening in a commendable fashion, including springing Allied airmen/pilot POWs from Dachau and similar situations to get them under Luftwaffe control/protection in Luftstalags, as was standard and proper.

Huskies are the best. Back when my oldest was irresponsible and stupid she brought home 2 of them. Of course I was in charge and had to take care of them. Most loveable things ever but tough. I had one out on a retractable leash one day and she ran into the ditch and got into a fight with a racoon. Took about 20 minutes but she was victorious. I held on the whole time worried but at the same time didn't have the strength to reel her in.

109 Being a bit down with the flu sometimes constitutes an excuse to wander the more lurid corners of the web. A good kerfuffle is somehow perfect entertainment at these times, and, well, sometimes it's enjoyable to explore the antics of those not overly endowed with brains or anything resembling a moral compass, as long as the narrative includes a nice dose of justice. Heck, that's why Cops succeeded so much as a TV show.

Which is to explain why I have been reading through a site I'd not heard of before today, and laughing. It's called turtleboysports.com, and it is, in between sports stories, (mostly) dedicated to ridiculing the lunacies of messed-up (mostly white) people in Massachusetts. A more serious take would be that the problems in (some) small American towns are worse than I thought.

I'm sure that when this flu goes away, I will leave it all behind. I hope.

Yeah. It isn't just content, mate. The whole "subsciption" thing doesn't sit right with me. I used to play old shooters and the servers etc were provided for nix. That was the reward and incentive for buying a top dollar game. Now, you gotta pay a motza for the game AND pay to play. I'm no game industry expert, but the older model seemed like it allowed games to live longer. Maybe that's the whole idea now? Also I want a single player that provides all the maps with bucket loads of bots run by decent AI, like multiplayer, but with bots. Not on the cards these days. I could let that go if the muliplayer was good to last for a few years and I didn't have to pay tolls all the time.

1) Yes it looks like a bunch of guys, and gals, and ?s running around holding their wangs.

(bonus observation: seems Mac's spell check doesn't recognize "Quidddich", which is understandable, nor "wangs", which is unfathomable).

Good stuff! Keep at it. The young guys around here have gone rapidly from noobs to 16 for 5 and every now and then, 20 for 0. I've never played online live with a console, and you can't learn shit from single player. Too scripted. I have major problems just co ordinating body movement and what on console, let alone bring the sights on target in under 10 seconds. There's no point me trying to learn from scratch in multiplayer. I'd spend the whole round respawning. With random play single player, I'd have a chance to learn.

184 Speaking of Common Core, good thing I gradumacated high school by 1985. By the time I did, I had read: Ayn Rand, Arthur C. Clarke, Edwin Abbott ("Flatland"), took a world geography test that required us to fill in the name of every country on the planet (bonus for capitals), dissected a frog, studied the prisoner's dilemma, set theory, venn diagrams, studied probability by shooting craps for MMs, learned that the Soviet Union was *bad* (yeah, really), read Shakespeare (MacBeth) and put on the play, went to the UN and saw a murder mystery opera at the Lincoln center - and that was 6th grade.

was some interesting stuff in there re "ethics" and honor the author

Dunno if his view was accurate for the Luftwaffe as a whole - seems
the circle of elite and senior sorts he ran with did have a more
"normal" professional and civilized approach to certain things.

Posted by: rhomboid at March 17, 2017 10:13 PM

Hitler once asked Hermann Goering if his fighter pilots would shoot at Allied airmen in parachutes, implying that he thought they should. Goering asked that question of Adolf Galland, Luftwaffe ace and "Inspector of Day Fighters", and Galland replied, "Absolutely not!". Goering then said "Good, That's what I hoped you say."So yeah, it was part of their credo.

411 Dunno about salt on watermelon, but a Latin American (mostly Mexican, I think) classic is a bit of lime juice and some hot ground chile powder on cut melons like cantaloupe and honeydew. Outeffingstanding, if everything's fresh.

A very nice gringoized cultural appropriation recipe is to add chopped fresh mint (to a cantaloupe salad with lime juice and chile flakes). Again, fresh - best if you have your own mint to cut. Amazing combo of cool mint, hot chile, tart lime and sweet melon. If CBD is lurking, a summer food thread recipe idea.

Present your adjuster with your estimate and request they review to pay that amount . Have your contracter contact them to discuss the difference. If you can't come to an agreement your policy has an arbitration clause.

481 logprof, envious of your Namibia visit. I *did* make it to Angola, just north, 3 times (and one visit involved flying low over Namibia, low enough to see wildlife ..... why so low? no comment, thank you).

Mid-90s two good friends (a couple) who'd quit their jobs in China and were spending a year on the road asked me to meet them somewhere in Africa. The finalists were Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia.

Zimbabwe was already pretty much a charlie foxtrot, and next-door Mozambique not yet cleaned up enough for the kind of independent travel we prefer, so that was out. Namibia was too $$$$, and seemed to require a guide with vehicle to do almost anything (incl. getting to/exploring the Skeleton Coast).

Ethiopia beckoned (we all love the food, and there are "sights" - stone churches - and national parks/hiking). So we met there. Oops. September (orthodox holiday season) - all internal flights booked up, so couldn't get up to the parks and churches in the north. Tried taking a flight to Dire Dawa to then take the train to Harar (town of 99 mosques - but also silversmiths), and got some East German-trained travel official's run-around at the airport.

So we bailed and flew up to Eritrea, where we spent 10 fantastic days. Amazing place (and same food as we'd left, with the bonus of great Italian food, and espresso - and even cheaper, if that was possible).

504 MisHum, I hope we don't find out (when the negatives force me to emigrate).

Changing the Prop 13 limits on prop tax increases - that's one clean and clear red flare firing in the sky that would mean "bye bye" - but since I think it would wreak so much havoc with so many people, it actually might be un-doable for the Khmer Rouge who have taken over the state.

And it's not just the beauty. It's the outdoor activities. No ocean in Nevada. And the climate that permits outdoor life year-round (and it's just a day's drive to spectacular mountains and snow, which we did a week ago). Food and wine.

So we'll see. MAx is right that the next governor will be even worse - though, quibbling a bit, Brown has actually collapsed/worsened so much in recent years on things like firearms and budgets, that Newsome may *not* present much contrast.

I'm very guardedly optimistic that the courts (ha! "courts") will provide *some* small relief on gun stuff. But as to $$$$, state finances, taxes, no basis for hope (apart from everything hitting the wall, which simply will not be permitted, as the US stupidly abuses its world reserve currency status like an addict taking that *one* more hit).

All of the above? I haven't had a chance to do a side-by side yet. Some of it is just mistakes (adjuster didn't appear to account for labor costs for the fence, eg). It think most of it may be down to the boondock location. Here's the situation: ~20foot section of tree fell on top of the A-frame cabin. Top of the cabin is kindof a continuous "skylight" made of fiberglass sheet. Tree took out one section of the fiberglass along with the ridge board and other framing. Also damaged the comp shingles lower down. A couple of days of heavy rain saturated the upstairs floor (eng. hardwood) but surprisingly did little other damage (some damage to walls and floor in bathroom). Another tree (we think) took out about 24' of fence. The storm also damaged one face of our shed's roof (also an A-frame, redwood clapboard), as well as the ridge of our pump house roof (small). We also lost our foot bridge (20' x 4'), but that's not part of the claim because it was due to the creek flooding.

Anyway, if you're offering to advise, I'll fill in the details when I email you tomorrow. We just don't want to get screwed over. We're going to be down ~$10K for the bridge and we'd like to keep it at that if possible.

534 PMC ammo - fine. Actually I'm not aware of a major ammo brand that is not good. My 38 spl brass is PMC - I established most of my reloading brass stocks by buying cases of ammo and keeping the brass. Makes for a nice uniformity in the brass (brass can vary quite a bit between brands, meaningless to shooters but sometimes relevant for reloaders).

And TKW, not gonna call you a hater.

Have never shot a Kahr 380, but imagine the CZ is heftier (all steel) and ergonomically sweeter. It's the most comfortably balanced and pointable handgun I've ever shot.

Got the CZ for kicks, nothing more. But doing research on 380, unsurprisingly modern ammo design has provided some 380 self-defense rounds that do very well in tests. Several current offerings meet the FBI penetration standards, while giving good expansion, according to the lab tests at Lucky Gunner.

A weird combination that was also pretty standard going to Azerbaijan. And, because oil, British Air and Lufthansa went to Baku.

Azerbaijan had one of the largest refugee (technically, "displaced persons" as they hadn't crossed an int'l. border) problems in the world in the 1990s - and maybe the least well known. Close to 900K at one point.

All the time I hear it from those above me that this is the most important and noble work that there is. Seems narcissistic and simply wrong, and also unnecessary. While I think my background makes me well-suited for the logistics of school leadership, I always find myself hoping that I won't be required to pump up people's egos so they can successfully do their jobs.

I really wish I could better explain my point. I think I just want to do something else with my life. Go back to the military, sell real estate, go into law enforcement, private business, something.

Jim from Galveston noted that PMC is among the most desirable brass for reloaders - didn't know that, though fortunately I happened to "standardize" on PMC for 38 spl. He mentioned PMC in the same breath as Lapua, which is high praise.

Prvi Partizan out of Serbia has excellent ammo, and good brass, in my experience. If some of the cheaper sources get their 30-06 Garand ammo in before January, I'll get some (adding 500 cases to my stocks once it's all shot).

How about Igman (Bosnia)? redc or any other gun nuts here have anything to say about them?

I think one of the things women don't understand is that it is a "buyers" market for women.
You DO NOT have to settle for guys who cannot or will not hold a job. If they won't talk to you, move on. Round hole, square peg. I know multiple women who are shackled to men who use them. The "men" refuse to get a job and want the women to pay their bills while they sit at home playing video games and/or chasing other women.
Marathon, not sprint. Keep that in mind.

"The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps families afford heating and cooling costs. LIHEAP is an essential tool for preventing the occurrence of "heat or eat" situations where families must cut back on food to offset increased energy costs. In Boston, for example, researchers found a 30% increase in the number of underweight infants and toddlers in the winter months compared to the rest of the year."

637 Wow.

Facing a bread shortage that is spawning massive lines and souring the national mood, the Venezuelan government is responding this week by detaining bakers and seizing establishments.

In a press release, the National Superintendent for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights said it had charged four people and temporarily seized two bakeries as the socialist administration accused bakers of being part of a broad "economic war" aimed at destabilizing the country.

In a statement, the government said the bakers had been selling underweight bread and were using price-regulated flour to illegally make specialty items, like sweet rolls and croissants.

The government said bakeries are only allowed to produce French bread and white loaves, or pan canilla, with government-imported flour. However, in a tweet on Thursday, price control czar William Contreras said only 90 percent of baked goods had to be price-controlled products.

643 personally, the VA can go pound sand up its collective ass until they shit a bottle.

i'm actually having fun, walking around and noticing things, good and bad, and bringing it to the attention of the appropriate PTB.

i walked into the Risk Management office on the 6th floor of the Left LA hospital, and spoke fluent "healthcare" with the staff, who were stunned that a patient would come straight to them, let alone know what he was talking about.

i'm on my 2nd PCP, as the first pissed me off over several months.

this one's doing much better: he pissed me off in our very first visit.

i'm going to, verbally, in writing, rip off his head and shit down his neck, pointing out his various errors, stupidities, and the fact that he refuses to acknowledge various medical issues i have, or dismissing them as irrelevant, while fixating on my alcohol use.

granted, it's been off the charts for more than a few months, and both my AST labs and A1C are elevated (and then some) but nothing that reverting to normal behavior won't take care of in short order.

ignoring my numerous ortho injuries, OTOH, won't make them go away, or improve my quality of life.

he even bitched about my use of pseudoephedrine, asking me if i had ever considered the possibility that i might be addicted to it.

i told him that the only thing i was addicted to was oxygen, and that the PSE just helped keep me breathing.

Barbed wire wrapped pineapple. Go for it.
Sounds like he has ulterior motives or is incompetent.
Everyone "assumes" that those who work in the VA are patriots. Even in my very limited experience, I have learned otherwise.
FFS pseudo-ephedrine addiction? Really? Unless you suffer from rather significant depression addiction is very unlikely.
