With the change, content with racial slurs could now get flagged under a new category called "upsetting-offensive." So could content that promotes hate or violence against a specific group of people based on gender, race or other criteria. While flagging something doesn't directly affect the search results themselves, it's used to tweak the company's software so that better content ranks higher. They're holier-than-thou attitude only hurts the causes they think they are the moral champions of. If these NeverTrumpers had gotten their way, we'd be looking at amnesty for 20 million permanent dem voters, plus more to come through open borders, and Ginsburg 2.0. "Why not? obama kept the dreamer program going even after the Judge threatened the DOJ lawyers."
In the TX Obama DACA EO case the district judge only issued an injunction for TX. The Fifth Circuit then applied it to the Fifth Circuit. It went to SCOTUS and a 4-4 tie, which sent it back to the Fifth Circuit which then made it nationwide. A big big problem with Trump's EOs is that judges in WA, HI and MD have issued TROs and injunctions that purport to have nationwide application. This should go to SCOTUS to get hammered. It may even go 9-0 Posted by: Ignoramus at March 16, 2017 03:51 PM (SIY7D) 114

Hey, I just thought of something . . .
Why are Executive Orders subject to judicial review in the first place? Shouldn't it be the laws themselves which are subject to judicial review---not the implementation thereof? Isn't judicial review of executive orders a clear and blatant violation of separation of powers? Posted by: filbert at March 16, 2017 04:13 PM (s5o+q) 219

They're already doing this at a lesser level. We enable "Restricted Mode" in Youtube because we have kids in the house. In practice, the "restricted" criteria is heavily gamed for political topics.
Videos that promote (or even explain) a conservative viewpoint are often flagged as "unavailable in restricted mode". Many videos from Prager U are restricted as are many Miton Friedman videos. Anything embarrassing to the left (i.e. Hilary's fainting spell) are almost guaranteed to be restricted. Viewpoints from the left, not so much--as long as they promote "the right things". Yes, I can switch Restricted mode off, but in the big picture I see this as another foot in the door. When Youtube/Google gets to decide what is appropriate for kids and what isn't, it's another step on the path of corporate censorship of ideas. Foul people. I thought so too but I saw an interview with some of the keepers and I'm pretty convinced they're on the up and up. It's a fairly small operation and they're all about the animals. They were hoping to get a few thousand viewers total. The vid going viral caught them by surprise as much as anyone else. They actually did take it down at first when April didn't give birth right away, but put it back up due to popular demand. Sure they're making money off of this, but I'm convinced that wasn't the original intent after seeing the interviews. Giraffes are preggers for 15 months and the due dates are kind of guesstimates. Google has the best search engine code, but they're not trustworthy. Bing is okay for a lot of general stuff but weak on older or technical searches. Most of the rest are hanging off someone else's code, usually Google.
DuckDuckGo is one of the larger independents. Bing has Chinese ties, BTW. That may or may not affect Western searches, supposedly not. Google has been getting worse lately, so they may start losing their massive lead. Still avoiding politics by spending myself into oblivion on this restaurant...
Bought some real nice silverware at auction the other day, but was outbid on the chairs I wanted. Stroked a $20K check on a new sign. Bathrooms and entryway get new floor covering tomorrow and the dining room will be re-carpeted on Monday. Point of Sale system should be in tomorrow and in operation by the weekend. (Now I'll have a better idea of how quick I'm losing money) The new menu is ready to go, except my daughter seems to think the prices are too high for the clientele. Heated argument to follow. Health department is due in on Tuesday to approve the planned changes in the kitchen. I'm sure that will go well (right!). Architect is working on the expansion plans for the catering kitchen and prep areas. Hopefully, we can get this going soon. Other than that, everything is rather boring. In the DAPA case, the judge never issued a TRO. He eventually ruled that Obama's actions were unconstitutional which was up held by the Fifth Circuit and deadlocked at the SC.
As far as I'm concerned comparing the two cases is like comparing apples and oranges. Texas had a direct financial harm with DAPA because they would have to pay welfare benefits to DAPA enrollees. Googles results are heavily jaded. Look at the pages that come up on a search you know a lot about. More noticeable is what's not there you know should be.
It's a bad joke now. I don't want my searches corrupted on a dishonest way to get only the results they want me to have at the top. That makes it easy for me to use something else. It's completely biased and therefore garbage. Posted by: Marcus T at March 16, 2017 04:32 PM (6hoR5) 330
278 What does a reading of 9.5 on an "A1C" test mean?
It means that your blood sugar over the past three months have been high. Typical A1C for non-diabetics is under 7. Complications from diabetes start at 8. As a Type I since the age of 4, I've never been as low as I am now, with a 7.1 A1C. As a teenager who thought he was invincible, I had an A1C as high as 13. I've had 6 eye surgeries to correct diabetic retinopathy. I can't feel my feet. My kidneys leak protein but are doing ok all things considered - oh and I can't feel my feet most of the time (although that's getting better too). Get the A1C down by eating less carbs. Thats the easiest thing to do. Lay off deserts and sweet drinks. Pass on the pasta and potatoes and only eat rice infrequently. Your body will thank you. Well I'm triggered.
Seriously though, I realize that everyone will say "they're a private corporation, they can do what they like!" But when the private corporation is acting on behest of the (shadow) government, it's just another fascist attack on our liberties. Posted by: Lauren at March 16, 2017 04:34 PM (iIoBw) 334
While ostensibly based on prosecutorial discretion (who to deport first), Obama's DACA thing created a whole regime of rights for Dreamers, including work permits and rights to drivers licenses, completely at odds with statutes on the books.
I say "thing" because it wasn't even an EO, just a DHS Jeh Johnson memo. For openers, even if Obama had the authority to do this, it was "rule making" that didn't comply with the Administrative Procedure Act. The only way for the Left to win on this was to say that Texas lacked standing, even though the Johnson Memo was ordering Texas to do things like issue drivers licenses. Be careful on standing, it can work both ways Posted by: Ignoramus at March 16, 2017 04:34 PM (SIY7D) 335

Adblock Plus is AFAIK still good, and it's configurable, so you can weed out the ads that straggle in. Ghostery is good. Privacy Badger does ad blocking and tracking prevention in one plug-in but kind of needs to be trained; it sort of learns as you go, but if you don't intuitively know that you need to unblock assets.notshitsite.com and css.notshitsite.com to view notshitsite.com and have it not look like shit, it can get frustrating. Plus, it's really slow on older computers.
