Quotes of The Day

Quote I

Some people drink from the fountain of knowledge, others just gargle. Robert Anthony

Quote II

Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be. John Wooden

Quote III

The whole idea of our government is this: If enough people get together and act in concert, they can take something and not pay for it. P. J. O'Rourke

Shooting Instructor from hell

Profiting from pain. Scammers meet their match.

"We’re the world’s only resource dedicated to reporting on, investigating and curating cases of Gofundme fraud," said Gonzalez at her office for the day--a pub in Richmond, Virginia.

Gonzalez says she receives about 30 emails a week from people reporting potential posers, phonies and outright scammers on Gofundme.

They don't make things like they use to do. Why don't a number of basic things work as good as they use to?

Phone calls aren't the only thing that are worse. Toilets that auto-flush, ostensibly to save water and keep bathrooms cleaner, rarely work either. Most of the time, the toilet flushes at least three times when I'm in a stall with an auto-flusher — the first time usually when I'm still using it, so it disconcertingly flushes underneath me. I try not to think about the inevitable splashing, which makes using a modern toilet less hygienic than its sensor-free predecessor. It usually flushes again when I stand, and once again when I open the stall door to leave. That's a huge waste of water, which frustrates me because I make a lot of effort to conserve water. (And studies showing what water-wasters these toilets are only back up my anecdotal observations.

Golden Rodents Gophers of MN. The University of Minnesota disposes of Homecoming King & Queen. Royalty can be whatever Royalty wants to be.

Taking it one step further, University of Minnesota officials also point out that the winners don’t even have to be one biological male and one biological female, stating on its website: “‘Royals’ … can be any combination of any gender identity.”

They may make your hair turn gray. But now they are supposed to make you live longer. Kids?

A new study has found that having kids might just add years to a person’s lifespan.

Of course, if your kid is a good-for-nothing hooligan and sociopath who tortures hamsters and eventually winds up in prison for embezzling from his grandmother’s Etsy business — well, you might not really enjoy your extra years on the planet.

Much of the country survived a recent snow storm. DYI projects when you're snowed in. Nope, drinking, Netflix and non-stop sex are not included.

Once upon a time, the United Nations was not an Anti-Semitic organization. Run by the United Nations, Kloster Indersdorf took a revolutionary approach in caring for its charges.

In July, not far from the Dachau death camp, 11 United Nations workers established a pilot project: the first international displaced persons camp devoted to children in the American zone of Germany. In a former monastery (Kloster) in the village of Markt Indersdorf, the Sisters of Mercy of Saint Vincent de Paul had operated an orphanage until the Nazis commandeered and closed the facility. The UNRRA charged its own Team 182 with reopening Kloster Indersdorf with the expectation that they could help 75-100 youth.

Don't take Shakespeare's advice and kill all the lawyers. Just laugh at them and their lame ass excuses.

Do's and Don'ts. From the U.S. Navy's Polar Manual (4th ed., 1965):

Number 26: Do not touch cold metal with moist, bare hands. If you should inadvertently stick a hand to cold metal, urinate on the metal to warm it and save some inches of skin. If you stick both hands, you'd better have a friend along.

The whole list is pretty interesting and worth a read. You can download the entire manual from the Defense Technical Information Center (PDF - 33 MB).

Do you remember ABC News & 2012? Pink Slime Expose headed to trial.

A South Dakota judge has ordered ABC News to face a defamation trial for its withering 2012 exposé on “pink slime.” Judge Cheryle Gering rejected ABC’s request to dismiss the case, arguing that a jury could find “clear and compelling evidence” the multipart series — which revealed that 70 percent of supermarket beef contained the controversial ingredient, accompanied by many minutes of unappetizing visuals — was libelous. Gering threw out defamation claims against anchor Diane Sawyer, but let the accusations stand against Emmy-winning correspondent Jim Avila.

63 The Irish prime minister asking Trump to help out Irish illegal immigrants. Only help should be to help them pack for a trip back to Ireland. Aren't these leaders embarrassed that their own citizens are fleeing their countries?

I know circumstances of the times put it into a complicated context, but I still don't look on Ireland favorably for declaring themselves neutral in WWII. They hated England that much. Though there were thousands of Irish volunteers. I also think a lot of Irish soldiers deserted to join the British troops. They were prosecuted after war:

I stopped cheering the Cowboys when Jerry Jones fired Mr. Tom.

My son, when he was a toddler, literally ran into Tom Landry at the airport. Just ran up to him and grabbed his leg. That is when I realized A) just how big Tom Landry was- massive, and B) what an amazing man he was. He picked up my son, kissed his cheek, and told me he was probably going to be O lineman based on that hit. Then handed him back and helped me with the diaper bag to my plane.

232 On the subject of plumbing projects, does anyone have experience selecting and installing whole-house humidifiers for a gas furnace? Last winter wasn't that bad, even though it got colder, but this year is ridiculous. I'm running two smallish ultrasonic humidifiers in the living room and barely keeping it at 25% RH. Starting a boiler humidifier in the bedroom a few hours before going to bed can get it to 70%, so it's only a 1 in 8 chance that I'll wake up spewing blood from my nose like a firehose on any given day when it drifts back down to 30%.

=============================

My brother in law had his own business, a good business. He also had a partner, a bad partner. The partner looted the business and left my BIL holding the bag. BIL has 5 kids. He worked two manual labor jobs, with no days off, for years until he got back into a position such as he initially had.

Work is good. There is dignity in work. 7-11. Wal-Mart. Mopping floors. Whatever. Work is what men of integrity strive to do.

267 Tickled Pink, there are a lot of reasons to take a job below your skill.

Sometimes you needed a job fast and haven't moved on
Sometimes you have other priorities
Sometimes getting another job means more responsibility and you don't feel up to it
Sometimes it is child support or other garnishments and you don't feel like working harder and getting nothing for it
Sometimes you are stuck, you can't afford the time to go do other things for fear of loosing what you currently got
Sometimes you get burned out from what you were doing and dumb work is what you can stand
Sometimes you don't feel you deserve better

I had a GF who was aghast that I was wearing holey underwear. I didn't care, no one cares what my unmentionables looked like. She was afraid that I felt I didn't deserve any better.
I'm just cheap. I found out she cared, I bought a bunch of new stuff.

Yep, and had a wonderful time. *Sigh* a week ago, I was sitting at the bar by the pool drinking a Pina Colada. Coming back to a snow storm was crappy.

We saw a Dodgers -Brewers game (Crew won - yay!) and friends from Sedona came down and treated us to a White Sox- Brewers game (Crew lost-boo!). It sure felt great to be sitting in the stands (in the shade) with a beer and a brat watching baseball.

The Cubs and Brewers played each other the other day and the game ended with a tie. Yeah, I know it's only a spring training game and they don't want to go into extra innings for an essentially meaningless game, but still, a tied baseball game is weird.

442 Grammie, I was thinking that, as "low stress" as spring training games are for the fans, they are, in effect, job interviews for the young prospects. The Brewers have 7 pitchers vying for a spot on the 5 man rotation. What kind of atmosphere does that make in the dugout? You know those guys must be sitting there secretly hoping that Joe Blow on the mound gets shelled, even if it means the other team wins.

The Brewers tied the game the other day because some new outfielder for the Cubs made an incredibly awful throw to third and 2 runs scored. I can imagine that outfielder standing there sweating and thinking"crap, there goes my cup of coffee, I'm going back to Triple A."

I'm looking to hire a pro eBay seller, to handle it all for a percentage.

But, all the goods will be in a storage which I own, on shelves of my choosing, and a catalog/inventory/spreadsheet system of my creating.

I'll be generous with the percentage, but an absolute tyrant as regards to the inventory, spreadsheet, payments and expenses.

Closed loop system with full accountability.

Oh, and when the customer pays, it hits MY account. I'll settle with the eBay pro on a bi-weekly payout, with full spreadsheet reports.

539 Farmer:

Mrs IMG sells stuff there (daily outbound). Like said before, know what it weighs before listing so you can figure out shipping.

If you use "Best Offer", be prepared to get Craigs List type low ball offers that won't even cover shipping.

She does mostly small, lightweight stuff and ships USPS. If there is too much for the mailbox, she schedules front door pickup. On the USPS web site. No extra charge for that.

Don't give away your prep time (i.e. handling). People will pester you for "actual shipping".

Figure out your bundling on shipping multiple items. Mrs does full price on 1st item and half price an each additional. Works out for her type of stuff.

Depending on what you are selling, consider mandatory insurance.

Think about the whole international and APO/FPO. Customs, etc.

Good photos help, of course.

615 Well, I found the WalMart service order for a lube job and oil change on Feb. 2. I specifically requested that they check the fluid in the transfer case, because I had noticed a thick film of oil on the rear of the truck upon my arrival in AZ.

Well the work order says "transfer case fluid - checked", although that appears to be a routine item on the service list (as indeed it should be), and not a response to my special request. And clearly they didn't fill it, because I was not charged for any oil for it.

The mechanic who changed it out said he tried to drain it, so it would not ooze fluid in the cargo space of the vehicle, but nothing came out but metal filings.

It never added much oil film to the rear doors on two trips to Tucson, so it must have been about dry then. If WalMart had filled it, and it continued leaking, it would have oiled up the doors real heavy.

So I guess tomorrow I go to WalMart, and see if I can get them to eat some of the cost of this repair.

Just speaking of my own experience, because you think that:
1. You only get one shot at the gold, and once you've had it that's it
b. You think that you are too old/unworthy/etc to find goodness again
III. You have tried so long and nothing happens

I was 49 and had my adult kids living with me when I met Mrs Hades, I had pretty much given up on "that little lie called love"...and then...

My grandfather was in his late 60s or early 70s. I'm glad he had someone to miss him when he was gone.

Nothin' like 'wearing o' the Orange' to get your ass kicked in a real Paddy bar.

641 I'd like to take this opportunity to append damage to the deceased equine joke from much earlier in this here ONT.

'E threw a bloke on the barby just to see him fry.

642 Speaking of Orange, I found out about drinking by religion in a Paddy bar one time in NYC. I asked for a shot of Bushmill's and a pint of Guinness. The barkeep leaned over and whispered to me, 'We don't serve that Proddy shite here.' I stammered, 'Uhm, a Jameson then?' The barkeep replied, 'Good lad. Good lad.' So after 12 years of Catholic schooling, I found my religion in a brand of liquor.

Every day is like Xmas. That alone strikes fear into lefties, who's piss puddling at their feet is my best reward.

The leftists haven't felt this bad since the Brits discovered that the Colonials weren't taking orders anymore.

If only I had 220 Billion Dollars, I could take care of Illinois's pension woes.

These donktards still haven't learned basic economics yet. 2 Years top. Caterpillar will be out of state completely. Taxes are killing any company that doesn't have bought and paid for politicians.

A word of advice to all you keyboard pounders out there -- do not let a 16 month old climb into your lap and start pressing keys at the same time you are. Somehow my main screen changed to a sideways portrait mode view during that process. I had the devil's own time getting it back to normal because the rotation also affected the orientation of the touch pad and mouse motions, too.
