Rachel Maddow Claims She Has Trump's Tax Returns

You know, I don't really feel like linking this just like you don't feel like reading it. But whatever, Rachel Maddow claims she has Trump's tax returns and suggests -- without actually saying so -- she's going to take you on a guided tour of them tonight.

I really doubt that last part. These things would take a long time to analyze and every bit of analysis would have to be run by legal. (You'd think that just having someone else's confidential tax records would also have to be run by legal, but I guess NBC's lawyers are okay with that.)

But whatever, just in case there's Big News, I guess it's my job or something to tell you.

I'm not going to watch, just because... well, TV is an information-light medium. TV may be easier to watch than a book is to read, but that's because books (and any written medium) is more information-dense. I just have this feeling we're going to get broad impressions backed up by thin disclosures of actual evidence.

The real info won't come out until the taxes are available to a lot of people, and actual experts can comb through them, and offer reports, in written form.

Also, I don't want to give this Smirking Animatronic Cashew ratings.

And also: I've got a case of Scandal Fatigue, but not in the way our media overlords would wish me to have. I'm just plain tired of their hysterias.

Just like that psycho who "confronted" Sean Spicer at the Apple Store, they WANT it to turn physical so a bystander who just happens to have a video camera can record it and use it for agitprop.

I think Maddow and MSLSD are actually hoping PDT and/or AG Sessions have her arrested.

(a)(3) Other persons
It shall be unlawful for any person to whom any return or return information (as defined in section 6103(b)) is disclosed in a manner unauthorized by this title thereafter willfully to print or publish in any manner not provided by law any such return or return information. Any violation of this paragraph shall be a felony punishable by a fine in any amount not exceeding $5,000, or imprisonment of not more than 5 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution.
(4) Solicitation
It shall be unlawful for any person willfully to offer any item of material value in exchange for any return or return information (as defined in section 6103(b)) and to receive as a result of such solicitation any such return or return information. Any violation of this paragraph shall be a felony punishable by a fine in any amount not exceeding $5,000, or imprisonment of not more than 5 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution.

i dunno. It was speculated that the partial returns the NYT had might be legal because they were passed to the NYT by someone who had a right to be in possession of them. The suggestion was that they came from Marla Maples, a joint signatory. I have no idea if that was true, or if that was the cover story hinted about in order to cover up the fact that there was absolutely no legal justification for the NYT having possession of them.

I still am impressed with Eric Trumps angry description of the Clinton Foundation's money laundering scheme and employment of most of the children of the MSM executives. Eric just rapid fired the facts and descriptions of the tax evasion, and actual criminal behavior of the Clintons, which he contrasted with his own foundation that donated 97% of it's income to St.Jude's Children's Hospital to the tune of millions and was fully tax and Tax exempt compliant. And to which he dutifully shut down when his father became president.

This is one of the many things that really drew me to Trump as a candidate early on. No "October Surprise" would've really changed anyone's opinion of him, and I highly doubt that any sort of "next March surprise" will make anyone who already voted for him regret doing so.

My guess is next, they will claim he never reported these business partnerships on his returns, which proves he is unfit for office.

Remember, because Trump was the owner of the Miss Universe pageant and it was held in Russia one year, Trump has deep and strong ties with Russia. According to the nimrods on the left.

327 Rachel is badly mistaken about her publishing not being illegal. Pentagon Papers case was about when government can exercise "prior restraint"-- e.g. shutting down her show tonight before it started.

Here's the statute, also cited above:
(3)Other persons. It shall be unlawful for any person to whom any return or return information (as defined in section 6103(b) [26 USCS 6103(b)]) is disclosed in a manner unauthorized by this title thereafter willfully to print or publish in any manner not provided by law any such return or return information. Any violation of this paragraph shall be a felony punishable by a fine in any amount not exceeding $ 5,000, or imprisonment of not more than 5 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution.

Presumably this is why Rachel's guy said Trump could have sent it (to create a cloud that it may have been an authorized release).

398 Actually, it bewilders me that someone who made $150M actually paid $38M in taxes in one year. Virtually no one in that rarefied air would let that much money go to the gov't without sending out a legion of tax lawyers to whittle the figure down with deductions and tax shelters. Hell, Warren Buffett consistently virtually no taxes due to his use of deductions and legal legerdemain. Year in, year out.
Posted by: IllTemperedCur at March 14, 2017 09:25 PM (cuZZW)

Because...it is a fallacy that rich people don't pay taxes. A fallacy that even those on the right have adopted.

Remember Lady Gaga being asked by a late night show host or maybe Joan Rivers about paying her taxes once she hit the big time and she said she had to do shots and get half in the bag before she could sign the check.

My favorite stupidity is when people comment that so and so can "just take it off their taxes when they buy something for their business, etc."

Ok, they can, but they have to make the income first which results in a tax bill to deduct it from what they owe. I"ve actually known people who think someone can made zero money, go out and buy a bunch of stuff, and get a huge tax refund for their business.

Rachel probably believes this also.

Of course that was all just agitprop ... real estate was reassessed each year and he (probably) took the "deduction" by resetting the basis (early 90's NY real estate lost a lot of value), so he would pay that later if he sold anyway. But at least by 2005 his properties were generating some good income (while also appreciating in value). And who knows how much other revenue was plowed into other development.

I am somewhat south of that tax bracket myself, but I would bet this is pretty typical or else they wouldn't have passed the AMT to begin with... duh! The long and the short of it is that Trump had a year with big losses and so he gets to carry those forward just like everyone else does. Small investors do the same. I still have capital losses I can use from the last market crash. The actual rules Trump used may be different but it is the same sort of thing.

Madcow's audience is just so ignorant, of so much that all of this comes as a surprise to them. They are easily mislead.
