Madison University "Students" Stumped By Insanely Simple and Obvious Hypothetical

A new law proposed in Madison would strip away all rights of creative professionals (singers, photographers, bakers-- whatever) to refuse to serve a client based on political or religious disagreement.

This is obviously stupid and authoritarian.

"Alliance Defending Freedom," an advocacy group for conscience rights, asks some students if they support a dress designer's right to refuse to dress Melania Trump, or of the right of a Muslim singer to refuse a Christian Church's request to sing at an Easter mass.

Of course they immediately agree that these creative professionals have that right, and must have that right, because -- Because Of Course. What other way could it possibly be?

Then they're asked if a Christian photographer should have the right to refuse to take photos at a gay wedding.

That's where things get a bit stumpy and stammerey.

2 I notice this a LOT. If you turn the argument around, a third of them will clench up, grit their teeth, and agree that yes, it's wrong then too. I admire that third for their consistency.

The other two thirds either get all wishy washy, scream RACIST!, or pretend they don't understand the question.

Of course they know making an Evangelical Christian business owner be a part of a gay wedding is wrong and evil, that's why they get such a kick out of it.

People need to understand that liberals don't make lawsuits/laws like this to "protect" gay people, they do it for the scalp and humiliation.

39 It is for this very reason that I have always been deeply opposed to hate crime laws. No one know what is in the heart and minds of someone committing a heinous crime--NO ONE. Even if they explicitly said that hate was their motivation, so what, does it change the outcome for the victim? But once you enter hate into the legal arguments, the jury cannot look at the facts objectively because their hates and biases prevent that. Then there are the hate crimes that turn out to have nothing to do with hatred towards the victim, Matthew Shepherd anyone?

The entirety of Sharia Law is built on Hate for infidels or anyone who opposes or disobeys Islam and it comes complete with ghastly punishments carried out by its adherents while they sing, laugh, dance, and clap, sometimes they even throw candy.

Like Berkeley, it's the flagship of the state colleges and an excellent school for STEM majors. The Liberal Arts students are as crazy as Berkeley students.

Milo Y. gave a talk at UW-Milwaukee in December and got some screaming protesters but was still able to give his talk. At UW -Madison, he would have inspired riots.

If I remember correctly, UW Madison was in some trouble a few years back because of the relatively low number of Wisconsinites they admitted compared to other state schools, which seems sorta wrong when you consider that state schools were founded primarily to benefit the natives of that state. Madison accepts more out-of-staters and foreigners than the other schools and they said they needed to do so because otherwise they'd end up with a bunch of lily-white cheeseheads and what diverse multiculturalist lefty wants that?

To add a little interest to the dire proceedings, I used to see how many times I could roll them on a given topic through use of body language and minimal verbal cues that they were wrong.

"X is greater than Y."

"Greater? (eyebrows raised)

"No, I meant less than Y."

Frown.

"Well, it could greater than Y, in a lesser sense."

"Lesser sense?"

"I mean, it could less, but in a greater sense."

My record was six roll overs for one student in the course of an hour.

The point of the exercise: don't try to read me. Think the issue through for yourself, reach a conclusion you believe, and then stick to it unless and until further evidence is adduced that makes you reconsider. Or prepare for a grueling hour's tutorial.

Also the stuff they sprinkled through for the sequel was well crafted.

90 If I remember correctly, UW Madison was in some
trouble a few years back because of the relatively low number of
Wisconsinites they admitted compared to other state schools, which seems
sorta wrong when you consider that state schools were founded primarily
to benefit the natives of that state. Madison accepts more
out-of-staters and foreigners than the other schools and they said they
needed to do so because otherwise they'd end up with a bunch of
lily-white cheeseheads and what diverse multiculturalist lefty wants
that?

The received wisdom in academia is that Madison's problems started in the 60s when they admitted a whole bunch of students from New York, in particular, many of whom were radical indeed.

One of the great things about Horizon is that when you finish the main quest line, you get the achievement for that and then they load you back in right before you start the final quest so you can go back and get all the rest of the trophies and finish up all the collectibles without having to start a new game and you keep your gear and all your xp from finishing the quest.

Now that's a nice player friendly feature.

It's very replayable even with the main quests done because shooting robot dinosaurs in the face with arrows is just really zen.

So now, thanks to Kennedy's 57-state legislation, we don't have a modicum of balance. And some gays have proven to be lousy winners.

The "youth" (and left) are hard wired by shock-like indoctrination to hate the right. (the shock being the vehement hate they get when not PC). So the PC punks can be a little logical until the logic is applied to the deplorable and irredeemable non-humans. The infidel right has no equal rights, they have been judged guilty of ... everything.

The stammering is a Trump Derangement Syndrome symptom, a form of cognitive dissonance. If we had President Hillary, they would not stammer so much, because the deplorables/infidels would be in chains by now. But a funny thing happened on the way to the forum.

Agree. I'd mentioned being excited about the game to my fiance about a week ago, and then had to backpedal and give her a 30 minute lecture on why on no uncertain terms should she preorder the game for me, because the industry has gotten into the habit of pushing out unfinished products and relying on patches in the first few weeks to fix the work they should have done before letting people buy the damn thing, so I never want a preordered game on principle.

I intend to wait a day or two to gauge general public interest before rushing home and buying it.

Parenting failure. I have sons 19, 22, 25 (and 13), all of whom are very likely to throw out the logical fallacy or the slippery slope red flag. They have to be taught young and parents need to teach them using logic, not using "because I said so." Demand they look ahead, ie what are the potential consequences of that act/tattoo/traffic ticket/missing condom/crappy grade/whatever. They'll still make mistakes, but they aren't learning analytical thinking in school anymore. In fact most tests are now scantrons, there is no opportunity for logical argument.

In a quality institution of higher learning they'd have the tools to handle this kind of thing, have seen through it already, and been ready with an answer even if they'd never been confronted with it. That's the entire point of a college or university, to teach young people the ways and means of thinking things through for themselves - how to think, in the most proper terms.

It will be longer than that for me, even assuming the UI isn't so broken it requires patches and aftermarket help (hello, Bethesda).

I'm beginning to think that, at least on PC, the UI should be 3rd Party. Very few devs have enough flexibility in their design, and more and more designs lock out more and more controls, or combine them in really annoying ways, because it's easier to design for one controller and then just map it as an afterthought to others.

Aside from that, I'm pretty much going to have to spoil the whole game before I trust that it isn't just a big middle finger, as so many have been (Far Cry 2, Deus Ex 3, Mass Effect 3, etc).

I'm sure the New York-based media will breathlessly regale us with tales of the snow storm.

Meanwhile,
we're still waiting since October to have leaning/dangerous trees
removed from the hurricane, and just today, a neighbor is finally having
his roof replaced.

But we're knuckle dragging mouth breathers down here, so it's okay.

Posted by: Methos, back to Let It Burn at March 13, 2017 05:18 PM (3Liv/)

Oh good, we're back to talking about it in actual numbers again. I guess "less than 5% of the nation" doesn't have the same impact.

Hopefully someone will point out that there are still 40 million uninsured just like before Obamacare. I doubt they will, though.

365 On Obamacare, I really don't think insisting on full repeal or nothing is a viable strategy, even though I'd like the thing dead and buried.

It's probably something that's going to need to be addressed with several bills over several years.

I think it's very normal to be mad at a person who has taken his/her own life. I get mad when people do it. I understand that most of them are not in the best mental health position when they do it, but it is so incredibly, horribly selfish.

A permanent solution to a temporary problem that slices through all of those who love you. Suicide is the worst.

God bless his poor family.

We have a friend in the Ag industry that was just shot leaving a bar at 1:30 AM. He had a wife and two small children. He was 40.

380 Well I know someone who thinks it should be illegal (as in pay a fine or even go to jail) for Drudge to link to Ann Coulter, because Ann lies. When I asked this person how a "lie" is defined, she patiently explained to me that a lie is a false statement. When I asked who gets to define what statements are false, she said community standards can decide. When I pointed out that different communities might have different opinions but want to read Drudge anyways, she patiently explained to me that I should go to hell. This person has several college degrees.

Yes, I would still bang her if given the opportunity, but that's different.

383 Liberals have no qualms about actually refusing to serve Conservatives, Christians, Trump voters, police officers, etc, etc, etc.

At the height of the Christian Bakers persecutions, the hairdresser for the R Gov of NM refused her any further service because she didn't like her politics.

Number of liberals ever prosecuted over such things? Still zero.

Whatever happened to the 1st Amendment being required, per SCOTUS, to include a Right of association as a basis for the other Rights included?

I guess that doesn't apply to anyone that isn't a liberal.
