Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Trump Signs New Revised Travel BanIraq is now off the list of countries affected by the ban. Instead, Trump says Iraq will cooperate more in helping vet their travelers. It also makes clear that Green Card holders or people who have already gotten a Visa are exempt. Finally, it bars all travelers from the six named countries from coming to the US for 120 days. The previous order had banned Syrian travelers indefinitely. I don't think any of these changes have any legal ramifications. The Ninth Circuit ruled this was illegal based on... well, based on patently extra-legal grounds. But I don't see those grounds being affected by what I know if the new EO so far (which is very little). I had heard that Trump was going to release an EO that could not be described in any other way but BALLER. A little disappointed that he didn't go that way, though that would have been controversial AF. Full Text:Here at the NYT. (I'll swap in another link when I find it.) The order itself contains a legal rebuttal to the Ninth Circus' claims, while not changing the basics of the order to what the Ninth Circus would consider acceptable. The order seems to just be trying to make it very difficult for the Ninth Circuit to strike this one down without giving the game away that they're simply now acting as Super-Presidents who are simply vetoing policies they don't like because #TheResistance demands no less. Secretary of State Tillerson, AG Jeff Sessions Speak On the Travel Restriction. Clips below.

The new order should not have exempted people who have already obtained a visa. A visa is just a document that says the staff at some embassy that says they think you are qualified for entry into the US and have their permission to present yourself at the border for consideration. It is NOT a guarantee of entry nor does it grant its holder the right of entry.
I do not trust embassy staff to catch all people who should not be granted entrance into the US. Posted by: redbanzai at March 06, 2017 12:12 PM (geAkB) 27

So this is designed to address the objections raised by the Ninth Circuit is their illegal blockage of his previous EO, right? Which means that cutting off the flow of muzzie terrorists into the USA, which is an urgent matter, takes precedence over whacking down a jumped-up Ninth Circus, which could take a long time, and would be better addressed once Gorsuch is on the bench.

It takes 6-8 months to obtain a fiancé or spousal visa from the Philippines (it used to take 8-10 months). It can take longer, sometimes a little faster depending on the BACKGROUND CHECKS for the sponsor and 'immigrant' (k-1 or fiancé visa is a non-immigrant visa). "I don't think any of these changes have any legal ramifications."
Disagree. The initial Seattle ruling conflated lots of things to get to its result. e.g Green Card holders have some Constitutional rights, therefore everyone affected by the EO has Constitutional rights, even a Yemeni who's never been to the US. Harder to back-door standing. The Seattle judge also said that no one from the seven countries had ever been involved in domestic US terrorism, which is false. I'm sure the new EO covers this. It takes 6-8 months to obtain a fiance or spousal visa from the Philippines (it used to take 8-10 months). It can take longer, sometimes a little faster depending on the BACKGROUND CHECKS for the sponsor and 'immigrant' (k-1 or fiance visa is a non-immigrant visa). You want evidence the Trump Administration has been watched?
You only need to look at all the 'leaks' about meetings. Because even if The Russian ambassador himself was being spied on, a lot of these meetings were set up by OTHER PEOPLE... Yet, suddenly there are multiple leaks, about multiple Trump staff, having meetings with 'Russians' (not just the Ambassador). So either all the reports are false, or some large entity has been spying on those who work for Trump... Now, as we KNOW it was not the Press itself doing the spying, what other entity has the power and ability to monitor that many people? Posted by: blaster at March 06, 2017 12:39 PM (tewYv) DOJ is the one who gets FISA warrants, not the FBI. And they go through the DOJ Counter Intelligence desk, which is inhabited by a Democrat. Thus, the DOJ Counter Intell desk would have access to all the wiretap info... and in fact be the one who would go back to the FISA Court, to get a new or expanded Wiretap if they found something nefarious from the original Ambassadorial Wiretap. There doesn't seem to any credible evidence so far that he was being bugged. Was their a FISA Court order or not? And, shouldn't Trump - being the, you know, leader of the fucking country - know for sure whether this is true or not? Or is he just taking whatever Mark Levin says for fact? Posted by: Chi-Town Jerry at March 06, 2017 12:17 PM (so+oy) The press was pretty much saying so. Otherwise how do you get the claims of all of this supposed collusion between Trump and the Russkies. Now that Trump hit back with Obama bugged his lines, the press if busy claiming it is unproven such a thing happened. The Obamanites' denials though are all carefully worded. You know, we didn't "order." Things like that. Plus let's look at past performance. The Obamanites have never shied away from using illegal methods against their opponents. Obama leaked sealed divorce documents in his senate election. Trump is probably right but if it was a FISA warrant I don't think he can say anything about it. Here's my thinking: 1. Deep State hates Trump 2. Deep State and Obama will use any dirty, underhanded method to win 3. Deep State and Obama are not terribly competent therefore their nefarious plans usually only work against the GOPe 4. MSM will cover as much as possible for Deep State Conclusion the bugged Trump, did it in the most incompetent manner possible, left a trail that can be seen from space, and only MSM support is keeping this from blowing up. They tried twice to get the warrant. First time was last summer and they were rejected which is incredibly rare. The FISA court has only turned down a request 4 times in something like 30,000 requests. It is the quintessential rubber stamp and yet they got turned down for this one. Think about that for a minute. So they refined the request, much as Trump has done with the travel ban, to overcome the Court's concern and got one in October after months of screaming about the Russians hacking our elections. In the prequels we see: 1) Slavery is legal and not considered a big deal, and in fact when the Republic comes across an enslaved clone army - they claim them as their own as opposed to freeing the clone troopers. 2) Power is held primarily by a group of religious fanatics (Jedi) who claim the right to go anywhere, do anything, execute "criminals" by their fiat, and abduct children into their order. Sith are to be executed on sight because they "think in extremes" 3) Citizens of the "Republic" are not promised representative government of any form or shape - nobility is common. 4) The Republic doesn't actually provide any sort of protection from external threats - it is the Nabu-eans themselves that have to fight off the trade guild. In the Star Wars universe I've come to accept that the Empire are probably the good guys.
Posted by: 18-1 at March 06, 2017 12:55 PM (X7E8f) One interesting point Heinlein made in Starship Troopers was that their form of government was good because it worked. The Seattle judge and the three Ninth Circuit judges were the designees for the month of February for handling emergency motions. Thus the Seattle judge shouldn't get the case again unless he claims it's "related" to his prior order. Judges cheat like this to get cases for political reasons, but here it's an obvious power grab.
Same for the Ninth Circuit, except that the three judges have already ruled that they won't let the case on the first EO go away -- they want more briefing on the old case even though it's now mooted. It'll really be a challenge for these judges to overturn the new EO. Posted by: Ignoramus at March 06, 2017 01:03 PM (SIY7D) 261

But Flynn's conversation was NOT specifically tapped. The Russian Ambassador was routinely being tapped. Flynn was stupid enough to know this - which he should have with his experience.
But i Trump had evidence, it would have surfaced by now. Show us the FISA order. Posted by: Chi-Town Jerry at March 06, 2017 12:29 PM (so+oy) ----------------------------------------------------------- Who bloody cares! 1. Releasing tapped / federal investigation information is illegal. 2. Releasing tapped / federal investigation info for political reasons during and right after an election is highly dangerous to the republic and the transfer of power. Is this going to be the SOP from this point on? Once Trump gets his people settled in can he do this to NeverTrumpers. This is why even Levin, who hates Trump, is freaking out. 3. It was the media who reported this. Does that mean the media's sources are full of it, or are telling the truth? If there is no FISA order on anyone within Trump's campaign then the sources are BS. It also calls into question almost every thing else they have been reporting. If there is a FISA order on any person within Trump's campaign it better be something really good, not some, "X visited Moscow once ten years ago" or "he talked to the Russian Ambassador". Remember these same courts gave permission in other highly dubious situations during Obama's administration. 4. The whole thing is starting to make Rand Paul not look so crazy after all...Intelligence agencies are now political props for the political party in power. Cannot imagine a more dangerous situation for the republic. Posted by: William Eaton at March 06, 2017 01:04 PM (MuTTO) 263

Posted by: buzzion at March 06, 2017 01:17 PM (z/Ubi) ================= Yes. It's almost like the universe as a whole wasn't particularly well thought through. That's pretty excusable for the first film which was supposed to be a fun serial. But once you start expanding it with the first sequel? And especially when you have more than 15 years to think about where a new trilogy would go? He's a lazy hack who needed money. He really should have hired Timothy Zahn to write the prequels, worked with some quality directors, and just stayed on as producer. Posted by: TheJamesMadison at March 06, 2017 01:19 PM (mC1ZI) 318

>>It's less to do with Trump's reaction than it is with Congress's ability to act quickly, effectively, and in a targeted manner enough to provide some of the preliminary investigative material that could lead to DOJ action.
Not much to investigate. Did the Obama DOJ get a FISA warrant to wiretap Trump's office or not? That should take about 5 minutes. From there it's just a matter of unwinding the thread. Posted by: JackStraw at March 06, 2017 01:20 PM (/tuJf) 321
I clicked on the link and the headline is a tad misleading. The video is clearly from and outside view point looking through a window or door.
It is, but its also visually identical to a typical crosshairs image, with the circular blur and the crossed bars right over his head. Were this during the Obama administration you'd hear the screaming from the moon. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at March 06, 2017 01:20 PM (39g3+) 322
@240 Lucas doesn't understand how governments function
Lucas seems fond of having himself interviewed as a sort of Peter Pan "boy who never grew up." Nothing could be more early-70's Hollywood than that, and what do you know, that's where he's from. Politics and all. Given another 8 or 10 prequels and suquels, he'd probably leave History with a fascinating profile of The Hero Acquiring Political Wisdom Excruciatingly Slowly. You just know he thinks he's going to be studied that way in the future, as he is now. On the one hand, he wouldn't be the first kinda-sorta science fiction eminence to do that to the world. On the other hand, you're going to have to watch those movies. As Patton said of Push-Button War, I'm glad I won't live to see it. Posted by: Stringer Davis at March 06, 2017 01:21 PM (H5rtT) 323
Re: The Resistance/ Force Awakens
I'm kinda meh on getting worked up about it but: 1. Daisy Sue. It took Anakin the better part of 2 movies and a bunch of years of training during the height of the Jedi order with 24/7 access to all the Jedi bad asses in between to be reasonably competent in using the force and he was the friggin "Chosen One". It took Luke 3 movies and a bunch of one on one training with Yoda and Obi Wan to get reasonably competent in using the force, and he still was mostly getting slapped around by a guy who was mostly a 50 or 60 year old robot and and an even more decreped guy. But token, Strong, Independent Woman can beat up on a guy- 2 generations removed from Anakin, trained by Luke and some other evil dude, and can do all sorts of crap we've never seen before, like reading minds (Vader couldn't do that) and stop laser bolts in midair- after barely touching a light saber for a second... in addition to being an equal or better pilot than Han Solo, even though there's no indication she's ever flown anything, a better mechanic with more knowledge of the Millennium Falcon than Solo and Chewbacca, and a better fighter than a Stormtrooper (though, admittedly, a shitty Stormtrooper). Bunch of BS. 2. Who the fuck in The Resistance? Why do they exist? You have a Repubic that won the war against the Empire and, supposedly, was headed up by all the people who are now in The Resistance. You have The First Order that's supposedly the remnants of the defeated Empire but, despite all the crashed Empire ships around, seems to be better astoundingly equipped, much larger, and much more organized than either the Republic or Resistance. So, who the hell is this rag tag group of people? How did they miss a planet being turned into a weapon when they knew about two Death Stars being built and were able to intercept plans, etc. while the Empire was fully in power? Why the hell is Leia now a general? What, was Princess too girly? She she is still regarded as royalty and head of a Resistance, wouldn't she be better positioned to actually be of use in the Republic she spent half her life fighting for? Makes no sense. Conclusion the bugged Trump, did it in the most incompetent manner possible, left a trail that can be seen from space, and only MSM support is keeping this from blowing up.

*** Just because it was a Republic and had Senators doesn't mean it was either a democracy or that it protected human rights. I'm not saying they wouldn't drone one of their citizens or wiretap a political opponent. "Good" being a relative term, I suppose. I guess we could go with the religious suicide bomber guy = good, but there's still the sticky little slavery bit. The later movies make it even worse, too. Samuel L. I'm pretty sure they even mention not having authority there on Tattooine.
