The Morning Report 3/1/17

Ryan.jpg

Good morning, kids. Get your shrove on as March has arrived. Our main story is obviously President Trump's speech to Congress. I regret not staying up and watching since everyone from Charles Krauthammer to even Van Jones has acknowledged that it was a grand slam. And as I'm scanning the usual sources for links, I am gobsmacked by the utterly infantile, churlish and puerile reactions of the Democrat party. Completely classless in a way that even I did not think possible. But, like everything else they have done since January 20th, it was on display for all the world to see and the contrast between our side and theirs could not be more stark. Keep digging, Lefties. Anyway, here's the latest from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

9 Picking up 10% more of the black vote cements Trump a second term, and he knows it. As do his opponents. This explains much of what we're seeing right now.

It was like you're at a baseball game, and your team has started to go wobbly, and the other team is starting to score points, now there's 2 outs, bases loaded, and everyone is starting to get nervous - and then the new guy walks up to the plate, points at the left field bleachers, and launches the first pitch out of the park for a grand slam walk off homer.

That's what it was like.

Trump is not the most polished speaker off the cuff, especially when it comes to politics which is not his strong suit, NTTAWWT.

That said, when he knows the issues inside and out, and since he's not a liar and tells you like it is straight up, it resonates with people who have been shit on from both parties since forever.

And when he delivers from prepared remarks, it's a guaranteed homer.

158 Another in the series of the new restaurant owner's saga...

One month since closing on the restaurant we bought for our daughter and son in law, word has gotten back to us that the former owner, a 66 year old woman with a bad hip, feels that she was "cheated" on the deal.

Now I'm being blamed for the democrat's policies.

This woman had a number of people who wanted to buy her restaurant at the listed price or even higher. Trouble was, none of them had cash. Because of the changes in banking regulations and the chilling effect they had on local banking, nobody could get a loan on the assets to buy the place.

The only way it could sell was to an all-cash buyer.

When I made an offer, I ignored the fact there was a restaurant there and simply offered what I determined the land was worth. She didn't have to accept it.

Now, after we've made a number of improvements, she's telling anyone who will listen that we somehow stole the property out from underneath her.

Fuck.

Hope she pushes that new walker we paid for in front of a bus.

It was an awesome speech.. simply awesome. Chris Wallace, afterwards, said "tonight he became the president".. I don't always agree with him, but this time I think he was right..

186 58 MEXICO CITY - Mexico's top diplomat said Tuesday that his country "will not hesitate" to take the issue of migrant rights to the United Nations high commissioner for human rights if the US government violates their rights.
___________________

Nicki Haley should just bring a copy of Mexico's own "migrant rights" laws. "You have the right to be thrown into a cesspool of a Mexican prison, where you will languish until your family comes up with enough cash to satisfy the greed of the local Mexican cops."

What a bunch of f*cking hypocrites the Mexicans are. Their constitution specifically limits the rights of non-Mexicans. Foreigners can't own land in Mexico in their own right, they can't vote, they can't attend Mexican public schools, they can't be employed by the government, they can't join the military, they can't do a whole list of things that illegal aliens from Mexico in the U.S. brazenly demand (and receive) the right to do here.

235 As someone here said, people who are not political junkies have been hearing from the MSM that Trump is a raving loon, a dictator wannabe. Then they tuned in last night and saw him looking entirely presidential and dignified and saying sensible things, while the Dems in white looked like the loons.

So people who have not been paying close attention up to this point have to question WTF all the screaming and protesting has been about. Trump made the media, the protesters and the Dems look like shit last night.

Id imagine she's partly hoping to sabatoge you so her excuses she told her friends, family, etc. about how it wasn't due to her decisions but how no restaurant could survive in that location will keep standing. I've been beaten on deals before, and I'm sure there are people who think I beat them. I went in honestly both times, though, and no one forced any parties to sign any of the paperwork.

I read that as "Lindbergh," for some reason. Which reminds me of a W.C. Fields story. This took place back in 1927, when Fields was still a vaudeville star.

It seems that the great dancer / comedian Joe Frisco had wrapped up his act. Fields was next and was counting on the huge applause that always followed a Frisco appearance to carry him into his own moment, giving him an opening boost.

But instead of leaving the stage, Frisco held up a hand and called out, "I understand that Charles Lindbergh is in the audience tonight."

Now, this was just after Lindbergh had made his famous Paris flight, and so the audience understandably went wild, cheering and standing on seats, hoping to get a glimpse of the famous aeronaut.

After a few minutes, Frisco held up his hand again. "Well, I guess it must have been some other guy. Anyway, here's W.C. Fields."

I think that's right. I still cannot fully understand why the Gope decided to screw their voters for most of the past decade or so, but they cannot hide the fact that their goals are NOT the same as their voters, regardless of what they think of Trump.

So they have a choice: stick to the rotten plan they've been on for the last several years, or jump on board with Trump.

Seems an easy choice, given they have no commitment to anything other than their own political survival.

What would be your hesitation, dear? As you know, the ashes are made from the palms of last Palm Sunday and so expresses, IMO that sometimes we can shout "Hosanna" and sometimes we can turn from the Lord. In the Hasidic tradition it is taught that everyone should have two pockets in their coats for two slips of paper. One says "I am only dust and ashes", the other "For me the while universe was created"
Ashes brand us-the mark us as a beloved child of God and that we are forgiven and made joint heirs with Christ. We are literally standing with the mark of Christ on our forehead. Consider getting the ashes, dear. It may be a blessing to you and the Rev. both. :^)

Easter is a moveable feast and is celebrated on the first Sunday after
the first spring full moon. In Western Christianity (including Catholic
and Protestant traditions) which uses Gregorian
calendar the date of Easter varies between 22 March and 25 April. Eastern
Christianity uses the Julian Calendar and for this reason it celebrates Easter
about two weeks later, varying between 4 April and 8 May on the Gregorian
calendar.

I guess they don;t remember Obama's lil' WH speech on gun control where he had a yuge group of people standing behind him - all family of mass shooting victims (you know the one where he had on shiny tear drip form his left eye) or that the Democrat National Convention devoted a night to the moms of Trayvon, Michael Brown, and other men shot by police.

About dang time someone beats them at this game!!!

IIRC, there was one fellow in Topsfield accused of sorcery by the Salem girls. When told of the charge, he basically replied, "Come and get me, assholes."

And he was left alone.

It's possible that they just wanted to go to the service early in case they had other things to do later and although I talked about IHOP if a person wasn't fasting it would be o.k. to go to IHOP :^) and if they're showing their ashes because they want to indicate that they belong to Christ, I don't see the problem. It's possible to both be pharisaical (sp) about showing your piety before men as it is possible to be pharisaical about "These folks are showing off, aren't they? I wouldn't do that." Unless someone told me, "I just do this because it's a custom; It means nothing to me" I wouldn't know. I can be as judgmental as anyone else. but I love the season of Lent and on this day at least I hope I can give them a break and just be glad that they showed up. :^)

I was thinking about this earlier.

The response to the SOTU is never about elevating an individual member of the party, or at least it shouldn't be because that never works. It's never going to have a large effect, but it should be around building the brand of the party out of power. The last couple of years Republicans did it about as well as possible with young minority and female responders. It didn't really make a dent, but for a news cycle that person was out there as the face of the party.

Democrats chose an old white guy who's never going to hold office again?

I guess his message was supposed to be about preserving the ACA, but his work is being dismantled at the state level by Bevin.

I just don't get this.

I'll bet every Dem and amnesty loving GOPe in the place peed themselves when that man stood up, because it was a reminder that blacks are also killed by illegals. Posted by: shallowboy at March 01, 2017 09:49 AM (HMHlJ)

581 The man who says that he does not care to be a citizen of any one country, because he is the citizen of the world, is in fact usually and exceedingly undesirable citizen of whatever corner of the world he happens at the moment to be in. In the dim future all moral needs and moral standards may change; but at present, if a man can view his own country and all others countries from the same level with tepid indifference, it is wise to distrust the man.

Every honorable effort should always be made to avoid war, just as every honorable effort should always be made by the individual in private life to keep out of a brawl, to keep out of trouble; but no self-respecting individual, no self-respecting nation, can or ought to submit to wrong.

There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

We can afford as a people to differ on the ordinary party questions; but if we are both farsighted and patriotic we can not afford to differ on the all-important question of keeping the national defenses as they should be kept;

Remember, you here who are listening to me, that to applaud patriotic sentiments and to turn out to do honor to the dead heroes who by land or by sea won honor for our flag is only worth while if we are prepared to show that our energies do not exhaust themselves in words;

Those of you who are in public life have a moral right to be here at this celebration today only if you are prepared to do your part in building up the Navy of the present; for otherwise you have no right to claim lot or part in the glory and honor and renown of the Navy's past.

588 Well he's wrong: Islamic terrorism is only radical in the sense that only a few muslims have the balls to go full jihad.

Otherwise, terrorism is a fundamental aspect of Islamic religious doctrine since jihad is a fundamental duty of muslims.

better than Bush and Obama's "Religion of Peace" tripe.
