Girl-to-Boy Transgender Wins Girl's Wrestling Championship, While Taking Testosterone

In fairness, the transgender "boy" had wanted to wrestle against actual boys, and, I think, maybe should have been allowed to do so: The strict sexual division between boys' and girls' (or mens' and women's) sports is to protect a niche for girls/women; after all. A man competing in girl's softball would likely dominate the game, whereas a girl competing in football... well, I worry for her safety, but she doesn't have any unfair competitive advantage over the boys.

But this girl-to-boy transgender was taking testosterone, which of course promotes muscular growth (as well as stamina, etc.), and that did give her a major (and usually forbidden) advantage over the non-PED-enhanced girls she was competing against.

A transgender wrestler in Texas, who was born a female but identifies as a male, had been taking testosterone for over a year before winning state and regional championships against female wrestlers on Saturday.

Joe Rogan linked an older article, from 2014 I believe, noting that the UFC banned "therapeutic use exemptions" for exogenous testosterone supplementation. Basically, you can find a doctor to write you a note and prescribe anything, and it's not fair to other fighters that some others doctor-shop until they get one to write them a prescription for what is, in all other circumstances, considered a performance-enhancing drug.

When Nevada got rid of the therapeutic use exemption -- and the UFC followed, because the UFC uses Nevada rules on these things -- UFC chief Dana White said something like "It's about time" and "I'm glad we finally got rid of that trash." A trash exemption, I think he meant, a silly dodge in what is otherwise a flat-ban on PEDs.

I can only speculate that this Texas wrestling tournament permitted testosterone if there was some claimed "therapeutic use exemption," and the transgender had a note that the testosterone was "medically necessary" or something, and thus the transgender was allowed to compete.

If that's the case, states should follow Nevada's rule and get rid of the therapeutic use exemption. While it's not impossible that a high-performing athlete could have low testosterone to the point where medical intervention is needed, that scenario seems unlikely in the extreme to me.

It seems to me any high-performing athlete is going to have higher-than-normal testosterone levels, and anyone seeking to boost testosterone is just looking for a medical edge, either by finding a pill-mill doctor or by using some protocol to artificially and temporarily depress testosterone just to trick one test.

Oh, by the way, a Huffpo writer had her 2nd-place medal in a (half) marathon revoked after evidence of cheating surfaced.

"If you had asked me a year ago if I would do a running race of any distance--5K, 10K, or even a half marathon--I would have immediately brushed it off and said, 'No, I hate running,'" she said.
It turned out that she did not enjoy running enough to complete the full course in Fort Lauderdale. Her fitness tracker revealed that she had shaved one and a half miles off of the 13.1-mile course. She crossed the finish line in 1:22:07 having logged just 11.65 miles--a discrepancy first noticed by MarathonInvestigation.com. She initially denied any cheating, according to the blogger, and went so far as to cycle the remaining distance to cover up her tracks.

Cute. But I guess the distance run was already registered and recorded at the moment she finished the race. Adding a mile and a half after that time wouldn't really fool the system.

"Jane made a series of very bad decisions. From cutting the course, denying it initially, accepting the 2nd place award, covering her tracks, and not fully owning up to it," the site said.
Seo posted an apology to her now-deleted Instagram account, admitting to cheating during the race. She blamed the cheating scandal on a physical ailment.

Doctors say her physical ailment is Advanced Special Snowflake Disorder with complications due to Participation Trophy Syndrome.

She should have been barred from play because of taking PEDs, just full stop. It doesn't even matter if there is a medical reason -- which there is not for her, since "transitioning" is elective. If you're taking steriods / testosterone, you shouldn't be competing period. As a boy or a girl or an other.

Happens now. My wrestler son (4th in the state his jr year before the elbow and ankle breaks) had to forfeit to girls because the diocese doesn't allow boys to wrestle girls. Of course there's always a few girls who think they can play baseball with the boys right up to about age 12, and often do because half the boys act and look like girls anyway. It's impossible to tell. Then you get in the situation where some long haired boy has a good play and the stands cheer for "her." I'm supposed to know that the long haired boy is a boy and the long haired girl is a girl or that the long haired girl is a girl who is pretending to be a boy...

I honestly think this is an issue. My daughters, for one, have absolutely zero idea how hard a man can actually hit.

I'm glad for them that they play sports and work out and feel strong.

Over and over I've had to say--I'm glad you feel strong. Look at your arm. Look at my arm. If you think your arm is strong, imagine what mine must be like.

But they just can't get it. Finally had some breakthroughs though. My 18 year old was sitting on my lap (shut up) not long ago and said out loud "I bet Dad can't pick me up anymore". So I stood right up with her in my arms. Her eyes were kinda big.

And I had a rented demolition hammer and was using it to take down a little concrete wall. At one point I set it down, and my wife tried to move it.

Point being, I think girls get a lot of Grrrl power crap jammed in their heads, and watch a lot of stupid Marvel movies in which women can knock men around, and it gives them the idea that they could, if they needed to, take on a man. It's a dangerously stupid idea.

Fortunately the women in my house are now more willing to think about carrying a pistol as a realistic means of self defense.

I mean, I've been helping my dad with heavy lifting stuff since I was literally still in single digits (much to my mother's chagrin), but I am under ZERO illusions that I'm as strong as he was in his prime. Even now, w/ me in my thirties and my dad in his seventies, he's still got the edge. A lot of that is the nature of his work - which was all manual labor - versus mine, which is sedentary, coupled w/ the fact I don't lift weights or really work on my upper body strength at all. Even if I did, I think we'd be just about on par. But my husband, who's as sedentary as me, is still stronger than me, and would win hands down if we both pumped up. No question.

Couple this w/ the absolutely idiotic notion that women shouldn't take precautions when going out at night - travel in groups, learn basic self-defense, be aware of your surroundings, carry mace or pepper spray or a gun - because encouraging that kind of behavior is somehow "victim blaming," and you are setting up GENERATIONS of women to be utterly defenseless. It's insanity.

The main thing to watch for in pitchers is strikeout rates. Young pitchers who are hard throwers might have modestly high strikeout rates, and then go to astronomical levels once they learn how to pitch.

Rarely does a pitcher have their strikeout rates go up after around age 27/28. And usually when it does it's because they find a novelty pitch, or something like that.

If you have an ordinary pitcher, like say, Curt Schilling, and somewhere after age 30 he starts striking out 300 men a season, you know it's chemical, and not just skill/training.

Forget it Jake (Arrieta), it's steroid town.

The fact is, that with a reasonable amount of basic training and AIT or OSUT, with a large enough group of inductees, most can be made physically fit enough for the battlefield. The percentage of draft-age women who can reach that minimum level of useful combat fitness is very small, which makes them almost irrelevant. That's not to say that there aren't some who can -- of course that's true. But the average Jane graduating from high school right now cannot ever be made fit enough to carry her weight in combat, let alone her combat load.

Interesting problem.

I think what you would have to do is remove her clavicles and reposition her scapula so that it pointed directly anteriorly (i.e. rotate it and position it more laterally on the chest wall). You would also have to massively increase the posterior and medial humeral muscle insertions With the pelvis, what you would do is disarticulate the sacroiliac joint and then rotate the pelvis so the ischial tuberosities pointed forward instead of down. You would also need to shorten the femurs and humeri and increase (massively) the length of the axial-limb medial and posterior muscle insertions on both, and elongate the metacarpals and metatarsals......

It's doable.

U.S. immigration policy should be based on what is best for U.S. citizens, and that means (at a minimum) limiting immigration to those who have some type of marketable skills, ending chain migration, eliminating idiotic and dangerous visa "lotteries," and requiring all immigrants to assimilate and learn English within a reasonable period of time.

Uh, no. They're the toughest male athletes in any sport and not remotely gay. No one would put up with that. My oldest played football and lacrosse too. The lax players would be vomiting after the "run test" at the beginning of lax season. The wrestlers would laugh and do cartwheels down the field. He's as hetero as they come and so were his wrestling buddies. There were scads of wrestling whores too who would give it up to those guys at the drop of a hat. I've pulled enough panties out of the couch downstairs to be pretty damn sure he's not remotely gay. His girlfriends agree.

The real double standard here is that they get to participate when they want or when it's to their advantage, BUT IN OTHER SPORTS WHERE THERE IS NO TEAM FOR THE BOYS, THE MOTHERS PULL THEIR GIRLS WHEN THEY SEE BOYS ON THE TEAM AND THE OTHER TEAM WINS. Yeah I'm happy that it doesn't work out for girls THIS once because this ridiculous "white knighting prejudice" double standard is always applied. There is no way any argument holds up in court that girls are in "danger" wrestling boys or playing football for that matter.
