And the Oscar Goes to... The Pretend Competency of the Media-Political Complex

Oh, boy. They gave Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway the wrong envelope -- they gave them a duplicate envelope containing the best actress winner, Emma Stone for La La Land. Faye Dunaway apparently ignored the "Emma Stone" at the top and read the Best Picture as La La Land.

These people have done this before. Shouldn't they have realized the Best Picture card shouldn't have the name of an actress on it?

At any rate, the Price Waterhouse accountants then had to come out and tell them that La La Land had lost, and Moonlight had won.

It was awkward:

Update: Clownshoes on.

I think what happened there is that the woman named did in fact die, but they ran the photo of a living woman.

Apparently, Beatty did figure it out.

But, the card for Best Picture doesn't just have the movie's name on it, it also contains the names of the producers.

Dunaway could have glossed over the name, thinking that it was just something she'd have to read afterwards, and skipped right to the name of the film. She's not much in the spotlight anymore either, so there could have been some level of anxiety messing with her ability to concentrate as well.

Still, funny to see them screw up and make the whole industry look bad.

______

I wouldn't say he "figured it out"

The "best actress" card has Emma Stone's name most prominently listed at the very top in big letters.

The idea that "Emma Stone" would appear in big, bold letters instead of the name of one of the films nominated is something you would hope a veteran Hollywood mogul could figure out was a mistake.

The cards themselves aren't supposed to be cue cards to help them with their introduction, they simply name the category winner and the film they were in.

Why, yes, they did!
To be fair, it's hard to say whether the "Moonlight" voters were all about teh Black or teh Ghey, but, hey, it still works.
And half of the acting awards went to blacks.

Okay, they did pass up Ruth Negga* for best actress and Denzel for best actor. They COULD have made it a black sweep. So there is still room for improvement!

They had John Legend do a medley of the two songs from La La Land, not the actual main actors that sang the songs. Which tells you all you need to know, lol. At least Amy Adams sang her own song from Enchanted the year it was nominated.

Gosling had to learn piano and jazz from scratch from his role, I still think he did an impressive job with that, despite the singing and dancing.

I also laughed that Manuel Miranda lost out on an Oscar for Best Song and the coveted EGOT to a white guy. He'll get it eventually. But I am amused for now. He HAD to insert Hamilton style rapping before the Moana song came on that he helped write, because of course he did. The girl that sang the Moana song was impressive, hope she gets some Broadway in her future.

350 The only reason I'm surprised La La Land DIDN'T win is b/c media loves nothing so much as celebrating itself. It's like how postmodernist art critics make every art piece (or "text" as they call them) into the artist's deliberate or unintended metaphor for the artistic process, or how TV shows like 30 Rock or The Newsroom hang on for seasons longer than they should have b/c they're about the PROCESS of making TV. La La Land is about Hollywood making Hollywood movies, which is why everyone in Hollywood loves it.

I guarantee you the only reason it lost is b/c Moonlight was about and by a black homosexual. After last year's #OscarsSoWhite kerfluffle, the Academy got spooked. That doesn't mean Moonlight ISN'T a better movie than La La Land; I haven't seen either of them, or any of the other nominees for that matter, so I don't know. But again, knowing media's masturbatory love of telling its own story, even if it were the WORST movie of all those nominated, in ANY OTHER YEAR, La La Land would have won.

Just not after last year.

IIRC, at one point Cuba (I think it was) decided that "red" should mean "go" (because Communism = progress; you know, the typical brain-dead leftist symbolism) and "green" should mean "stop." (I guess "yellow" meant "go get some egg rolls," or something.)

The results were predictable, and the policy was soon reversed.

IDK if this actually true, or an urban legend, but it's stupid enough and characteristic enough of leftist thinking to be the former.
