The Overton Window Is Shifting, Even In Europe.

Geert Wilders attacks 'Moroccan scum' as he launches election campaign

Of course the headline is inflammatory. The real criticism was of a subset of Moroccans who have immigrated to The Netherlands. But that is to be expected from the soon-to-be-obsolete mainstream press.

Before posing for selfies and accepting bouquets from a small band of hardcore supporters, Mr Wilders spoke out against the "Islamisation" of Holland and urged his countrymen to "regain your country".

"Not all are scum, but there is a lot of Moroccan scum in Holland who make the streets unsafe, mostly young people," he told camera crews from across the continent.

The sentiment is being expressed in public as part of the election process, and is no longer being whispered.

Mr Wilders's plans to close all mosques, shut down the asylum system and ban headscarves at public functions have proved popular with white working-class voters whom the party dubs "Henk and Ingrid". He has also appealed to voters who feel they have not shared in the benefits of the economic recovery by pledging more generous welfare payments and to stage a "Nexit" from the European Union.

7 Watching the EU crumble could be a great thing.

When I was in high school, I took a 3 week college course in England (set up by the University of Dallas) to study Thomas More. While there, we got to visit with an MP. I can't remember who he was or where he represented, but I do remember that he was very anti-EU (this was sometime in the early 00s). Hell, for all I know, it was Nigel Farage.

Anyway, that has always colored by view of the EU because it was my first exposure to it as something other than a reference in a textbook.

I thought the idea of the Overton window was that it would leak for a month or two but then move the house with it.

I would have to be careful which side of the house I put the Overton windows in. One direction it's Hillsborough, the other direction it's the bay.

And of course this is California, where there seems to be an inverse-Overton function at work. I need to make sure I get the 47-state version and not the California version.

Listened to a Great Courses on Eastern Europe. The professor was good but I think he kept missing the point on the wars after the great powers collapsed and lost control. On the one hand, I believe that people should be able to believe and do as they wish.

The problem is that cultural. Society tells people to stay in school far longer then they should be, and then to only have kids after both the mother and father are stable in their careers - which would be in their mid thirties.

To increase domestic population growth you'd probably have to do some subset of the following:

1) Revitalize High School education - such that if you have an HS diploma businesses can trust that you in fact have basic education.

2) Ban H1Bs and most immigration - to force companies to hire and train domestic talent

3) Scale back government - so their are more jobs and opportunities

4) Convince women that they should be getting married and having kids by their early 20s, and that career can come after having and raising kids.

5) Go back to the idea of older men marrying younger women, and tighten divorce laws so said men don't just become cash cows.

6) End welfare - right now the people having kids young are married to Uncle Sugar and those kids are coming out as barbarians.

1, 2, and 3 are all possible. 4-6 seem unlikely.

I've long thought that women civilize men, and children civilize women.

Most women require a man to think of their needs to have a relationship with them, and this is a core element of what civilization is, putting the needs of your family ahead of your own.

By the same token, children do the same thing to women. Suddenly women have to put their kids' needs ahead of their own.

The interesting thing here, however, is that biology forces most men to enter the civilization process - very few men or women want to be single.

But nothing really forces women to have kids - in fact society tells women you can wait...and wait....and wait. Which is in the end a lie.

My argument was:

They say are bringing immigrants in for the labor force.

These immigrants:
-do not want to learn to speak German
-do not have skills
-do not intend to work
-do not want to associate with the German population

How is this going to help?

It is not.

But what it will do is dilute nationalism, and native Germans will be forced to breed with lower IQ muslims, and will produce lower IQ children. A lower IQ populace with no national identity at all will be easier to control for the globalits.

BTW, reading Fallaci's The Force of Reason again. It's terrifying and highly recommended. Europe is so, so screwed.

IMHO, this will be one of the overriding issues of the next 100 years. If all of the "successful" countries go into demographic collapse, and I think they will, what then? I find most of the single women I meet, believe I should fulfill all the traditional male gender roles - bread winner, heavy stuff lifter, spider squisher, comedian, romantic etc.

However, I find that they also believe:

Women should not cook - it is beneath them.
Women should not clean - it is beneath them.
Women should not do laundry - it is beneath them.
Women should have the option to work...if they want...or stay home if they want, whether or not they have kids. And the man should abide either decision.

Now, I am open to the notion that roles don't have to be so rigidly defined as they traditionally were, but what I am actually seeing is that modern American women don't believe they need to bring anything to a relationship.

But that means someone else will pick him up like Regnery. He really should self-pub I agree. More profits, and for a guy like him, publicity and getting word out is a cinch. The book is already super popular on Amazon in pre-orders.

A couple of somewhat notable authors had already quit Simon & Schuster 'cause of their association with Milo. The Chicago Review of Books editor made a fuss in the Guardian around New Years and declared they wouldn't review any Simon & Schuster books in the foreseeable future.

I'd guess there were some major agents and marquee writers that forced their hand.

Khuzistan means "sugar land" in Iranian. It was also called Beth Huzaye in Syriac and Ahwaz in Arabic. Same root. These terms are found in Pseudo-Sebeos writing in Armenia in the 650s / 660s; and in the Khuzistan Chronicle published by Guidi in the 1800s, probably also composed in the 650s.

One of the bits of treasure Heraclius carried off from Iraq after he conquered it in 628 was a block of sugar.

Sugar cane is not native to Khuzistan. And it probably didn't get there during the chaos of Khusro II and the Muslim conquests. But it is unheard of in the early years of the Sasanian Empire - at that point the territory was still "Elymais" ("Elam", for you Jews out there).

Sugar cane came from the east, as was pointed out in Watson's "Agricultural innovation in the early Islamic World" (Cambridge U Press, 1983).

It was brought there, therefore, sometime in the 400s or 500s AD. And in order to harvest sugar cane, in those pre-industrial days, you needed a *lot* of strong men doing hard labour, all day. That meant slaves.

The Persians sure as hell weren't going to do it, so I think it is reasonable that the Persians were buying the labour from further south, that is, the Zangistan as they called it then.
