Texas Governor to NFL: Worry About Your Own Spousal Abuse Scandals Before You Go Dictating to Us That We Need to Allow Penises in the Ladies' Rooms

The NFL warned a Texas that a bill proposed in its senate -- which would reserve bathroom use to the "biological sex" indicated on the door -- might jeopardize Texas from getting to host any future Super Bowls.

Governor Greg Abbot had some words for the NFL.

However, if Texas, or any other state, wishes to bar professional sports teams from ever attempting to blackmail them into what laws they can and cannot pass or enforce, I have a much more powerful corrective.

States should begin proposing this law:

No municipality shall have the authority to issue any bonds, or direct any public monies, towards the construction of any arena, stadium, or venue of any type intended partially for use by a private company, unless permission to do so is first granted by an act of the state legislature itself or a statewide referendum affirmatively permitting such a corporate-enrichment boondoggle.

Municipalities are delegated whatever powers of the state the state wishes to confer upon them. Municipalities, you may or may not know, act with the power of the state when they pass ordinances and tax bills and such -- but that power derives from the reservoir of powers the state possesses, and which the state has conferred upon them via charters of incorporation.

Those powers can be circumscribed, expanded, limited, or cancelled.

You don't have to include that last part, the part about the legislative or popular referendum override of the general forbiddance, but that could be thrown in there for RINOs who really do want to do favors for corporate bullies and who therefore won't vote for such a bill without an escape clause.

When the states get serious about simply cutting off cities' rights to issue bonds or directly subsidize, with taxpayer money, the new stadiums these free-riding vulture socialists are always demanding, then you'll see the NFL and NBA adopt a much less high-handed tone.

You want a #War?

Well we're your Huckleberry. You're a right Daisy for giving us the #War we've been itching to give you back.

You need your wagons fixed and your britches properly sized? Well you came to the right place.

Nothing's gonna change, folks, until we all collectively decide that:

1. These people need our goodwill far more than we need theirs, and

2. It is beyond time we started acting aggressively to defend ourselves in the war that these transnational socialist barbarians have brought to our shores, and

3. When we collectively decide to spend time in more ancient and eternal pursuits than sitting in front of their idiot boxes -- their church and their state; their sun, their moon; their alpha and omega; their propaganda mouth and their all-seeing high-def eye -- only then will they whither and pass from this earth.

The TV is their one power source, and the one (or two, or three, or five) beachhead(s) of transnational socialist progressivism we've not only permitted but have paid loads of money to sit in our homes, acting as parasites on our lives, spirits, and energy.

Kill their gods -- kill their television power. Slaughter their gods, raze their temples, scatter their cults to the four winds.

3 Texas Governor to NFL: Worry About Your Own Spousal Abuse Scandals Before You Go Dictating to Us That We Need to Allow Penises in the Ladies' Rooms

It's not really about penises in the ladies' rooms, it's about tampons in the men's rooms. And it's not just that all men's rooms have to have tampon dispensers, but that the guys have to actually use them. And they have to get bitchy and nuts for one week every month. The NFL front office is trying to lead by example.

12 I've never understood, as a citizen, how public money can be spent of the frivolity of sports arenas/stadiums/etc. when the cushy benefits never go to the citizens but politicos that get reserved seating in the skybox and sports magnates that rake in obscene profits not shared with the locality that is being inconvenienced. Telling the community how it must establish bathroom rules without a local or state referendum is the icing on the cake!

I'm sure each state has an OSHA of their own. It'd be a shame if they started looking at occupational safety standards in professional sports. Mandating wearable airbags for contact sports would go a long ways towards ensuring the safety of the Professional Sports Worker.

Here they are pushing the progressive agenda, which includes women in combat arms military occupations, and yet there are only approximately zero linewomen in the NFL by our best and latest estimate.

These approval-hungry Bombardier Bolsheviks need to be held to their own standards. They push this boundless, omnibus progressive agenda, and there are so many fabulous swords in there with not one but two edges, if we can just find a few more prominent conservatives with the spine to wield them.

88 I watched a little pre SB coverage on the NFL network. I saw a segment where they talked about the drop in ratings and they came up with every excuse imaginable and blew off any concern about players acting like divas.

90 I was a YUUUUGE NFL fan not even 2 years ago but that whole circus has actually disappointed me - BIGLY - in the last year.

I make a lot of money off of the NFL and hardly pay anything to watch it so my ROI is mostly all profit. This is what is holding me back from just saying FOAD.

If Texas makes a low saying I can't play DFS because (?) then there's really no purpose in watching anymore because it's a stupid sport and I have better things to do with my time even though I will have less money to do it with.

116 Styx - The Grand Illusion

Welcome to the Grand illusion
Come on in and see what's happening
Pay the price, get your tickets for the show
The stage is set, the band starts playing
Suddenly your heart is pounding
Wishing secretly you were a star

But don't be fooled by the radio
The TV or the magazines
They show you photographs of how your life should be
But they're just someone else's fantasy

So if you think your life is complete confusion
Because you never win the game
Just remember that it's a grand illusion
And deep inside we're all the same
We're all the same

America spells competition, join us in our blind ambition
Get yourself a brand new motor car
Someday soon we'll stop to ponder what on earth's this spell we're under
We made the grade and still we wonder who the hell we are

Probably going to piss some people off... but I blame a combination of Modern Christianity, and the School system.

Modern Christianity has (generalizing here) gone non violent... where turn the other cheek is the only way to live... Even the Pope will not actively call for a REAL defense of Christians who are being slaughtered...

Add in the segment of Christianity who say everything is Jesus or God's will... and you end up with a very passive group of Conservatives... because its not 'nice' to fight back (my 88 year old Mom is a perfect example).

Now, add in the school system, who for 2 Generations have taught that fighting is bad... even if you fight in self defense you are suspended...

And you have two of the largest influences on children outside of the home... agreeing that you should not fight...

But one of these influences, Christianity, really only affects Conservatives... Progressives by and large are not true believers in Christ.. and so it does not affect them...

So, IMO, the Conservative movement has been hampered by its own 'niceness'... to the point of cultural suicide...

Things are turning now... but its going to be a long road...

For example, Philadelphia has been told over and over and over again that it cannot make its own gun control laws and yet it still does because, hey, it's great PR for the local politicians and what's the Commonwealth going to do? Throw it out of PA? It's not like the individuals who vote for it suffer any out of pocket economic harm. It's the taxpayers on both sides who pay for the attorney fees and the resulting judgments.

I will say that I am torn about where to draw the line on local control. In theory, I believe in devolving power down to the lowest level. If a city KOFF CHARLOTTE KOFF wants to go full SJW idiot, let it and people can vote with their feet. On the other hand, that way lies Philadelphia banning all guns. I don't know where to draw the line or if that line can even be drawn at all.

In theory, that line can be drawn by state wide referendums on how much local control can be given to cities and counties. But then you have situations as used to exist in NC where the state constitution allowed cities to go hey you unincorporated area, yeah, you're part of the city now even if you don't want to be.

So I don't know.

Also, fuck Charlotte.

Won't happen. Biological women just aren't strong enough to compete against men in pro football. Now, the obverse, a man who identifies as a woman, that could theoretically happen. He could run around wearing dresses when not on the field and then suit up on game day.

Sorry, no money to be made in local TV anymore. When there were only 3 or 4 outlets to get news and entertainment from, station ownership was a license to print money. Now that there are a bajillion places to get video entertainment, it is a money losing proposition. Add in government regs and it is a cash drain hole for any station that does not have the top rated local newscast. And that top rated newscast is virtually always the one with the absolute worst news content. Sensationalism sells.

Eddie Murphy played a famous singer in some movie, either Ray or Dreamgirls or one of those flicks. I vaguely remember what it was though I do remember thinking that he did a fine job while the rest of the movie stank on ice.

Everything IS God's will but that doesn't somehow negate human responsibility. We're called to act and work and grow and build and take action. The Bible is full of admonitions to be active in the world bringing God's truth and kingdom to reality... AND God's will being sovereign and in control of all things.

How does this work out? That's like asking an amoeba to solve a differential equation. Its beyond us. All we have to worry about is whether we're doing what we should glorifying God and working to serve Him in the world.

Its simple: culture is what drives politics.

In other words, the worldview of a civilization, its understanding of how things work and why are what produces its leadership and government. A lazy, worthless people who love only what they can get, how many orgasms they enjoy, how healthy and happy they feel, and care nothing about tomorrow or right and wrong will produce a government with the same attitude.

Changing culture changes government. Culture produces government. We get the government we are.

No, but it would help.

Building constituencies means working with what you have. Culture means shaping it so you have closer to what you want. It matters if you have the cultural values of the '40s or a hundred years ago or 1975 or now. We keep saying how Obama would have gotten nowhere 30 years ago--what changed?

The Left understands this. It's why the culture has been reshaped as it has. The few on the Right who did got scoffed at, ostracized, marginalized, and ignored. I make no bones I made this mistake once. No longer.

328 286 Another interesting tidbit about Harlem Nights is that Pryor actually did not like Eddie Murphy at all.
So Eddie was all excited to be working with his hero and his hero made certain Eddie knew how much he didn't like him. And Eddie was sad about that.

That's interesting. In his standup routine movie, Eddie Murphy: Raw, released in 1987, Murphy talks about how Bill Cosby was giving him shit about the language he was using in his act (in front of kids). And, he claimed he called up Pryor and he had some memorable quotes about what Pryor said he should say to Cosby.

Harlem Nights came out in 1989, so... later. Maybe Pryor didn't appreciate Murphy putting their conversation in his act.

Vet thinks it's probably due to eating a holly berry or leaf and is feeling positive because Whiskey's condition seems to have stabilized and he was able to get him to eat a little of that Hill's Prescription Diet.

356 Concussions are damaging the brains and prematurely ending the lives of NFL players.

Not really. This concussion crap is a lot of bullshit. I took my nephew to soccer practice and the teen coach kid gave us all a long speech on concussions and how kids are watched closely ... I told him that that was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever heard. The kid didn't even really know what a concussion was - "Well, your brain splashes around in your skull and ....".

All of a sudden, everyone is getting "concussions" from pretty much everything. Just like ADD. It didn't exist, really ... and then all of a sudden almost 20% of young boys have it!

The brains of most NFL players were damaged long before they ever even started playing football.

The story has no character arc, at least not in the traditional sense. The star of the movie is living a pretty dreary life. Because of a death, he returns to his hometown to attend to some responsibilities. Through flashbacks, we eventually find out what his life used to be and how he ended up in his dreary existence. But, instead of finding a way to reconcile his past and escape his misery, he finishes discharging his responsibilities in his hometown, freeing him to return to his meaningless life away from anyone and everyone who cared about him.

So, the flashbacks gives us the reason for his descent into meaninglessness, but there is no redemption. No upside, so no arc. Just a slanting line plunging downward.

I did it this week in yoga class. The teacher and one student (who I know both went to the Seattle pussy-march, or as I call it, group therapy in an echo chamber) started gloating about the Flynn resignation, and saying, now it's "Kellyanne's turn!" Now, they were talking to each other, but it's a small class and was easily heard throughout the room. I stopped them cold, and it was great! I said, from the other side of the room: "If you want to talk politics, I'll be happy to take both of you on, but trust me you don't want to talk politics with me. And all the people who say nothing when you're talking? That's because they don't agree, and they are the ones that voted Trump, and you guys were all shocked." The teacher, kinda sheepishly, says, "Well, we've had some experiences together..." I said. "I know, I saw your Facebook pictures, but can we please leave politics out of yoga class?" Wow. They STFU fast. It was GLORIOUS. They have had carte blanche for years, and I:m sick of it. No more. Time to be the Huckleberry.

384 I agree with much of what's been said about Luke Cage in this thread. I have a couple of other points to add...

Despite the show's slow pacing, it felt to me like they tried to cram too much story into one season. I think this is why I said before that it sort of seemed to fall apart after, like, episode 8. It was like they crammed one season into the first eight episodes, and a second season into the latter five, but still maintained an oddly slow pace throughout.

The show sort of had the opposite problem from what Jessica Jones had. Jones felt like it didn't have quite enough story for one season, so they had to stretch it thin and throw in a whole lot of subplot scenes.

Also, that final fight with Diamondback... ugh, that was awful. I saw at least two obvious, glaring flaws in Diamondback's powersuit, and Cage didn't see fit to try to exploit either of them. That fight should've been over in, like, ten seconds, but Luke had to try to go toe-to-toe and have a good, clean, straight-up fist-fight. Tear that obvious power-pack off his back! Or, put your fingers in his mouth and grab him by the chin! What's he gonna do then?

Another problem I see, for the (at least) one more season we know is coming... This has already been mentioned, but... that toning-down of Luke's personality. With him now being calm, quiet, insightful... that's how Iron Fist is supposed to be. You know Iron Fist is coming, and Luke Cage's new personality will make for some boring-ass "buddy-cop hero" dynamics with ol' Danny-boy, unless they drastically change Danny's personality in such a way that you won't be able to believe he could've had what it takes to be a martial-arts master.
