Media Has Group Snit Over Katie Pavlich Getting to Ask a Question

Twitchy rounds up the Blue Checkmark Mafia's tweets. They're pretty absurd in their self-importance and self-regard.

They have boring jobs consisting of writing down the words of people much more accomplished and important than they are, and then adding in some snarky shit-talk to reassure themselves that they're really worldbeaters, as far as stenographers go.

The one perk of the job -- they thought -- was social prestige and a privileged position in the hierarchy. Trump's threatening that, and they're very upset about that.

This story from Grabien notes that a media which routinely refers to Trump as "Hitler" is shocked and offended that Trump is treating them as enemy propaganda agents.

This observation is obvious, but the truth is often obvious. A great deal of hard work and cleverness is deployed by many people to avoid confronting the truth.

One particularly stupid reaction came from the particularly stupid Matthew Dowd, ABC's totally unbiased political director, whose Twitter feed is a full-on hatefest against conservatives of any kind, and who's pondering a Senate bid to unseat Ted Cruz. (Wonder if he'll be unbiased in that election, too.)

He says that Trump is shredding the constitution by ignoring the liberal media.

Dowd argued that Trump is "shutting down part of the First Amendment by not taking questions that are going to be any way antagonistic in this."

"I think he thinks relying on his Twitter feed, and sending it out to the millions of people that subscribe to it, and then dealing with very cozy press in this is going to be the way to get through this," Dowd said.

The press does not have brains, talent, or insight. All they have is access, and Trump is under no obligations to prop their failing industry up by providing that access.

And by the way: Obama avoided the "mainstream press" for years despite the fact that they gave him tongue-baths and chose to appear mostly on friendly talk-show type settings.

Dowd probably thought that was "brilliant retail politics."

Video of this Talking Thumb at the link.

Incidentally, for the progressive reporters insisting they're the only ones capable of asking "hard question," the Daily Caller rounds up the 13 greatest super-hard questions the media asked of Obama.

Here are a few:

"I'm wondering if you think that [Republican presidential candidates are] uninformed, out of touch, or irresponsible?"-- CNN

...

What has “Enchanted you the most from serving in this office?” -- The New York Times

Jeff Zelaney asked that question. He is now CNN's White House correspondent. He has not thusfar asked Trump what has most enchanted him about becoming president.

"In this fatherless world, where did you learn to love?" -- CBS

...

"Are you ready to call yourself the 'comeback kid'?" -- Reuters

...

"You definitely have some impressive accomplishments….And more than a lot of presidents who manage to get reelected. My question is, is it enough?" -- CBS

More at the link, including video of some of these very hard-hitting questions.

77 You know something: journalists like to claim and pretend, and many actually believe that the First Amendment gives them some sort of special status. Bullshit. Freedom of speech and the press applies to every damn citizen equally.

The courts have ruled as much. Now, *law* does give accredited journalists some protections beyond normal people, like shield laws that protect them from having to testify and reveal their sources. The courts have said the First Amendment does not require this. And it doesn't.

But these assholes think they are special and have some greater freedom of speech than joe sixpack as a matter of constitutional law. That's bullshit. Shep Smith has no more freedom of speech than I do.

102 I have come to the conclusion that GWB could not distinguish between scorpions and competence in his appointees. There have been too many examples such as Paul O'Neill and his last Treasury Secretary. Rove and others also come to mind. There are always a certain number of incompetents in any administration but the best way is to sack them immediately instead of keeping them on in misguided loyalty. See Winston Churchill for example.

The MSM gets 40 million viewers a week in primetime from 8-11pm. 8pm cable news pulls in 6-8 million. 9pm pulls in 5-6million. 10pm pulls in 5 million. Which are not unique users. Plus they count DVR stats now.

Alex Jones and staff alone reaches more people per week via radio show, websites, social media and YouTube views over his 3 hour show than the cable prime time tv shows from 8-11pm. (I use him because he is alternative media). Radio show alone reaches 20 million plus a week. Not counting social media, YouTube, and website visits.

Breitbart is alternative media same thing.

Drudge same thing.

Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, blows the MSM out of the water.

Then you have podcasts.

The MSM is DEAD. And it is not even close.

This is a great time to fill the vacuum left by the dumb dumbs and coo coo pants in the MSM. If you can write and report honestly and respectfully then you should go for it.

I have an engineering question for the engineers in the Horde. I am not an engineer, so if I get the nomenclature wrong, please don't hold it against me.

My snow blower stopped going into reverse, and it was very difficult for me, an old out of shape fat man, to muscle that machine through the snow, and it was stuck in one speed forward. I realized the problem when I noticed the linkage between the actuator and the end effector was disconnected.

See, there is this shaft that sticks out of the tranny, and you have to rotate the shaft to change speed and direction. There is a sleeve that goes over the shaft, and there are holes in the shaft for a through pin, but no holes in the sleeve, but there are two pins that stick out from the sleeve as if they were a through pin. Maybe press fit, and if I squeeze the pins tighter around the shaft, that might be all it takes. I don't see any way to align the pins in the sleeve with the holes in the shaft except by feel, I guess.

The machine is fifteen years old and if I can't reattach the linkage ... I guess when I blow snow with this fifteen year old, I'll just have to work the shaft that sticks out of the tranny by hand to change speeds.

The parts diagrams for the new machines don't show anything at all like what I have. I don't know if the dealer can rework the linkage design with new parts. The drive needs some attention too, so maybe it has to go back to the dealer?

I really need some expert advice here. You guys have bailed me out before.

Yep! He also said something about how the financial press was so much more honest than the political press.

But the media just doesn't get it.

It's like if a parent took the same approach to a pair of siblings, rewarding the "good" one and punishing the naughty one. And then the naughty one gets on Twitter and says "Unhinged parents go on rambling, grievance-filled tirade."

Posted by: Geronimo Stilton at February 16, 2017 05:38 PM (10LGw)

365 I think that's what really galls me so much about national political reporters: the insufferable self-importance. Twitter has given us a great insight into how highly they regard themselves and their profession.

It's probably not as easy as it seems, especially since everyone hates them and wants to make their job hard, but there is no way it takes a tremendous amount of specialized skill. You are replaceable, and for the product most of them put out I could just as soon read DNC press releases instead.

Yep...they just don't understand how politics really works do they? How to rally a base, or how to win gutter fights at all. It is why Milo now will make a lot of money and Shapiro will just complain about it Milo making a lot of money.

378 330 that sleeve with the 2 pins. Is it possible it was a single pin, and the pin got sheered, and you are seeing the nubs, basically what was left of the pin poking out from each side of the sleeve?

Posted by: Berserker- Dragonheads Division at February 16, 2017 05:23 PM

Yes, thank you. That would make sense. If I can get them out, and a new through pin in, it would all work.

Posted by: Wendel Willard at February 16, 2017 05:27 PM (pfIXo)

Fwiw, it's probably a shear pin that's meant to break before the energy that broke (sheared) it transfers to the equipment and causes much more expensive damage. Be sure to check for little ridges where the pin separated, and replace it with another similar shear pin.

If it used one, don't replace it with a screw or cotter pin. Saving the $1 will cost a lot more later. Find the shear pin. Lowe's and home Depot should have them in the specialty drawers near the bolts and screws.

379 President Trump need to call on the mainstream-media types in a conference and answer some their old Obama tongue lashing questions, then when they ask about it, shove their faces into it!

Posted by: Janir at February 16, 2017 07:15 PM (Lk5qN)

380 Note to Trump:

1) Call a press conference.

2) Come out with a bunch of 3X5 cards.

3) Read the softball questions one by one that the press asked Obama, and note which prestigious news organization asked it.

4) Answer them, one by one. Take your time. Smile and laugh. Spend a solid half hour at least.

5) At the end, say you just have time for a couple more questions.

6) Call on Fox and a conservative website. Make sure they ask hard questions.

Wave goodbye and walk out.

Posted by: George Orwell's Ghost at February 16, 2017 08:00 PM (UgF8H)

381 Better yet:

1) Pick a liberal reporter.

2) before they ask a question, read one of their nasty tweets out loud.

3) Then say "please, let me hear your unbiased question..."
