"The Political Assassination of Michael Flynn"

Stephen Green has a good post rounding up information about the Deep State's undemocratic, illegal war of leaks against democratically elected officials.

He cites this Eli Lake column (which provides the headline of this post) for how unprecedented this leaking of intercepted national security conversations is.

He concludes:

In normal times, the idea that U.S. officials entrusted with our most sensitive secrets would selectively disclose them to undermine the White House would alarm those worried about creeping authoritarianism. Imagine if intercepts of a call between Obama's incoming national security adviser and Iran's foreign minister leaked to the press before the nuclear negotiations began? The howls of indignation would be deafening.

In the end, it was Trump's decision to cut Flynn loose. In doing this he caved in to his political and bureaucratic opposition. Nunes told me Monday night that this will not end well. "First it's Flynn, next it will be Kellyanne Conway, then it will be Steve Bannon, then it will be Reince Priebus," he said. Put another way, Flynn is only the appetizer. Trump is the entree.

One of the reasons the Democrats are delaying Trump appointees is that they want Obama holdovers in positions of power so that they can use their power undemocratically and illegally to fatally wound the new administration in the moments of its birth. (I know, strange the Democrats of all people would be keen to do that.)

But it's also the careerists of the Deep State itself.

Trump has to get both serious and ruthless about firing all Obama holdovers and firing as many careerist members of #TheResistance as possible -- or, if he can't fire them, assigning them to very isolated and unhappy places.

I keep thinking about how important it is to have a weather station in the most northerly and cold latitudes of Alaska to monitor the polar air for signs of Dangerous Global Warming. I think many national security personnel and DoJ personnel can be usefully assigned to this gulag critical science headquarters, especially given that many of them believe that global warming is both the most important national security issue of our time, and also a threat to Environmental Justice.

There will be costs for such a move. They are worth paying. What they are doing is illegal and undemocratic -- the country voted for Trump, whether they like or it not. These people have no legitimate authority to attempt to run the government as they see fit.

Trump should announce a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the High Latitude Peace, Freedom, and Love Global Climate Change Monitoring Base ASAP, and damn what CNN has to say about it.

Flynn's Deputy, KT McFarland, Expected to Resign. Whether she's being asked to resign or is resigning in solidarity, I don't know.

I think this is unnecessary.

So, in JJs thread this am I offered Vic's wife that I had a friend who is a tour guide in Charleston and that she could take her somewhere. Just heard back, my friend has offered to take hr - now I have to connect the two.

Which is interesting because we have this whole random internet thing, and we are relatively anonymous and we don't know real names, and we are asynchronous and all that - and pretty sure Vic's wife is out doing something right now and probably not scanning the threads for messages to her....

So - does anyone have real world connectivity with Vic/Vic's Wife? And can also post to the Yahoo group?

I'd like to be able to do something nice for someone.

I adore the Alaska idea, but the state has quite a small population, and dumping a huge number of federal apparatchiks into it on permanent detail would probably result in two more Democratic seats in the Senate. (I know, I know: in the case of Lisa Morecokeski, how could you tell?)

Really, they need to be distributed in a harmless manner, and there are plenty of places right here in the lower 48 where Fedzilla's employees could be relocated, and in which they'd be just miserable.

You don't have to put them in the subarctic deep freeze. Just put them way out in Possum County, surrounded by "flyovers" driving F-150s, without a Whole Foods market anywhere in sight. Sufficient unto the day.

.
.Unfortunately Trump has tainted any potential Jury pool for his Court Martial by his previous statements. While I doubt the charges will be dropped, I seriously doubt berghdal will spend any time in Military Prison now.

The Military has always taking extreme steps to keep undue Command Influence out of any legal proceedings and Trump is the Commander in Chief and had made multiple statements that he thinks berghdal is guilty and he will personally review any sentence he gets if he thinks it is too light.

The Military Judge in charge of the pre trial hearings is already questioning all of this which does not bode well for getting him convicted of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy.

85 For anyone trying to understand why it is the GOP presidents in the past (and probably extending to current and former GOP congrescritters) have been besieged with a seemingly endless stream of problems and hassles - this should serve as an illustrative example why such things happen.

The Democrats' permanent government establishment - at all levels in most every place you can think of.

It also explains why it is so many GOPers tend to "go soft". Yeah, some are squishes, no doubt. But I'm willing to bet you that they all realize right-quick that "The Problem Is Bigger Than They Are" and those inclined to fight either give-up and go-along or just fade away. Either way, the Democrat Perpetual Government Machine rolls right along.

We're about to find-out just how big a stomach Team Trump has for this fight. Nothing short of our future as a nominally self-governing people is at stake, because if Team Trump loses this battle we are doomed to Government By Unelected Deep State until the shooting starts.

DC/NYC screwed America with debt and bailing out the richest on Wall Street. Those same rich people now have enough to run the government and media. Hard to imagine they have a lot more blackmail material on Trump, or they would have used it for Hillary.

We have to hope there are some patriots remaining that will expose and jail these leakers and subversives. We could fill Guantanamo back up, and do serious interrogation on these domestic "terrorists".

91 Just happened to catch a glimpse of the Mucinex Mucus man, oops, Elijah Cummings, declaring that we need to know just what happened to Flynn, who is obviously just the fall guy for Trump's obvious collaboration with the Russians. The Dem clown before him wants a special committee created to begin looking into the Flynn case, "did the president order Flynn to begin discussions with the Russians regarding lifting sanctions, who else in the administration sanctioned this, to him, it appears that all of the Trump administration would have known of Flynns conversations and continued to lie to the American public about it;

He actually said the American public "labored" under the belief that Flynn never talked about sanctions with the Russians.

Flynn was a private citizen at the time , who had zero ability to negotiate with any foreign government.

The writing was on the wall when Pompeo's CIA refused a secutrity clearance for Flynn's top aide a couple days ago. Once the breach between them became so public, one of the men, Flynn or Pompeo, had to go.

Pompeo won. So did Pence.

107 Trump really needs to grasp the nettle, nail his colors to the mast, and take firm, immediate, deliberate, decisive executive action here. He needs to name a replacement national security adviser by the close of business.

And it needs to be Chuck Norris.

No, seriously. Norris has already demonstrated an excellent rapport and working relationship with Benjamin Netanyahu, for one thing.

And for another, when the left rise up and say, "You can't do THAT! He's just an entertainment figure! He has no relevant background for the job!", there is a riposte ready to hand.

Norris flatly isn't qualified to be the national security adviser. Admitted for purposes of argument.

But no one in Hollyweird says boo about it when Ashley Judd talks about wanting a Senate seat, or when George Clooney says he might run for President, and those sorts of people aren't qualified for those jobs either. It's just that they're limousine liberals and perforce immune from criticism or scrutiny.

And the left have actually installed unqualified former entertainers in key federal positions before. Senator Al Franken, anyone?

Force the left to live down to their own lax standards for once.

What Trump could do is basically make Brennan and Clapper radioactive through selective leaks about their operations. He can declassify at will and he should air all of the dirty laundry that he can of Hillary at State and Clapper/Brennan at NSA and CIA. Have a House special committee look into their actions and waive executive privilege forcing them to talk. Clapper and Brennan can now be prosecuted as Koskinen for Contempt of Congress charges if they don't spill their guts.

Also appoint Rudy as special prosecutor over leaks at NSA and CIA--Clapper and Brennan and their assorted deepstaters could be up for some rather nasty lawfare punishment.

Agree, but the left has been rewarded for claiming what Trump said as a candidate in speeches is truly actionable, because it was cited in the 9th's stupid reasoning as why they wouldn't stay the WA courts order. After all, Candidate Trump said something about Muslims and so that is why he issued the EO, to hurt Muslims.

So the fact that he made derogatory remarks, abeit true ones, about Berghdahl means Berghdahl cannot get a fair trial, because those officers might have heard that. And besides, see he ordered citizen Flynn to tell the Russian ambassador we want to lift the sanctions. So he has probably ordered every officer in the Army to convict Berghdahl.

Yes. This is a revolution. This is war. There are trillions of dollars at stake, years of effort with the power shift from the people to the elites that is so close to the end, and even an ingrained ideology of the superior elites ruling the ignorant serfs for their own good.

It would take "a" Trump to fight this battle. Lets hope the Trump we have is up to it. And WE have to be up to it.

Sorry... but this is horse shit legal sophistry.

He was NOT Commander in Chief when he made those statements... thus NOT in command, thus there is no undue influence.

Heck, if anything OBAMA had undo influence when he had the Parents
give speeches in the Rose Garden, as he WAS President at the time.
.
.
.While I understand, it most assuredly is germane. Trump is CIC and has the authority to review the case if he thinks it warrants it. It doesn't matter that he made those comments before he got elected, he is the president now and he can have undue influence on the proceedings.

I did 22 years myself and think bergdahl should fry for what he did, but I am not the Judge in this case. The UCMJ was partially written to "fix" the undue Command Influence problem from WWII and the Korean conflict.

At no point in the history of our nation has this type of political obfuscation, sabotage and treason been so blatant. This doesn't have anything to do with representative democracy or opposition. It is treasonous treachery meant to install one party rule.

Ok, gonna say one more time. You cannot have a National Security Advisor who lies to your VP. You cannot.

Had Flynn, when it was first leaked to the Post that he had discusses sanctions with the Russians, had said he had briefly discussed it with him on the call and then acted outraged that the call had been leaked, would have still had his job. The Republican would have had ammo to fire back at the Dems that the Logan Act of 1799, an outdated, idiotic law in which no one has ever been prosecuted under, would be impossible to apply here because Flynn was a private citizen and therefore incapable of negotiating or promising anything to the Russians.

But no, Flynn has to do the Washington DC thing and LIE about it, directly to VP Pence. It was stupid and idiotic, both discussing anything of substance with the Russian ambassador(how could he not have known he was being recorded) and then lying about it, by first fully denying it, then waffling and saying , like a four year old or Hillary, "I don't recall".

Yep -- On a spectrum it's halfway to Hillary thinking that her secret server would stay secret.

There are several plausible scenarios to explain what Flynn was doing.

In one, Trump told Flynn to back channel a message to the Russians. I don't put high odds on this, because Trump was already telegraphing in public that Obama's end-of-term sanctions would get reversed once Trump was in office.

In which case, Flynn was free-lancing with the Russian diplomat on something that wasn't really in his zone of responsibility.

Best to get Flynn behind us, even though MSM wants to keep this going.

"February 13, 2017
In the course of my duties as the Incoming National Security Advisor, I held numerous phone calls with foreign counterparts, ministers, and ambassadors. These calls were to facilitate a smooth transition and begin to build the necessary relationships between the President, his advisors and foreign leaders. Such calls are standard practice in any transition of this magnitude."
Unfortunately, because of the fast pace of events, I inadvertently briefed the Vice President Elect and others with incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian Ambassador. I have sincerely apologized to the president and the Vice President, and they have accepted my apology.

I've been of the opinion that the best place to focus our efforts is at the state level is supposedly red states.

Lindsey Graham didn't just come out of nowhere, he grew in power in SC before landing his House seat and then his Senate seat. If we can cull some of the less conservative Republicans in state legislatures, we could begin cultivating a more conservative federal government in a generational sense.

I know that that doesn't appeal to a lot of people's feeling for immediate action at the top level, but unless you can start by raising at least a million dollars per House race, and probably between $5-10 million for every Senate race that you want to win, then it's a pipedream.

We're Morons here. We're not money men. We need to focus on attainable goals, and turning states like MS, TN, SC, and anywhere else from just red states and into conservative states could lead to larger wins down the line.

Taking this back to James Buchanan, because I can't get him out of my mind, the biographer wrote about how frustrated with Lincoln Buchanan became because Lincoln wouldn't take any sort of official action after the election but before the inauguration.

Essentially, Buchanan couldn't control the situation and wanted Lincoln to save him, but Lincoln refrained because he wasn't president and Buchanan was. Considering how the biographer emphasized Buchanan's legalism as a good (especially in regards to his view of slavery and the Dredd Scott decision in particular), it's really just kind of funny.

This is sources & methods stuff.

Given the data hoovered up by the NSA, why can't the NSA find the leakers in a matter of hours?

Here's what needs to be done:

Install Scalia's Ghost as head of the FBI.

Install Ace as head of the CIA.

Kurt Schlichter to head of NSA.

One suspects the NSA is the key here. Information is power, and the NSA has all of it - every email, telephone call, etc. of the entire population.

It's not credible that Obama and the Alinskyites did not corrupt it and use it as a weapon of power. It's what they do.

Need something on the Chief Justice before a big decision? Might a few mouse clicks bring up some useful leverage? How about key Senators or Congresmmen?

Once Schlichter is installed at NSA, he cleans out the traitors using 155 mm artillery.

That's unclear- whatever was said about sanctions may actually have been ambiguous and forgettable- but even if he did lie to Pence, it was still dumb for Trump to fire him. Flynn should have been given a dressing down and warned he wouldn't get a second chance, and Pence should have been told to suck it up for the good of the team. Now there's blood in the water, and Trump looks weak. The Deep State is committed to permanent hostility with Russia, and the moment they see a chance to take down Trump himself and replace him with neocon Russia-hawk Pence, they will take it.

Yeah, that's an important thing to never forget. Sequestration was not an actual cut in budget. It was a slowdown in the department's budget's rate of growth.

Only in Washington does a slowdown in rate of growth equal Draconian cuts.

401 The resistance may have won this time, but Flynn lied to Pence.

Posted by: Avi

That's unclear- whatever was said about sanctions may actually have been ambiguous and forgettable- but even if he did lie to Pence, it was still dumb for Trump to fire him. Flynn should have been given a dressing down and warned he wouldn't get a second chance, and Pence should have been told to suck it up for the good of the team. Now there's blood in the water, and Trump looks weak. The Deep State is committed to permanent hostility with Russia, and the moment they see a chance to take down Trump himself and replace him with neocon Russia-hawk Pence, they will take it.

The biggest single portion of DoD spending these days isn't on weapons systems. It's compensation outlays, including health care, which is the elephant in the room.

It turns out that aggressively enlisting young women into the force has exploded the cost of medical services due to pregnancies in uniform. Plus higher rates and severities of duty injury for females.

Precisely as had been predicted by all of those negative-nelly-naysayers back in the day (who just hated girls, of course).

Pence is for carbon credits and lax immigration. He is GOPe through and through. The donor class loves him. The Oligrachs love him. The MSM loves him. Very close to the Bush wing of the GOPe.

Standing by Trump will signal that he supports America and American Citizens. So if he says he goes with Trump, then Ryan has zero moral or electoral mandate to govern.

All they need is political cover and the ability to pay off the Congressmen and Senators to get them to vote Trump out. Look at what they did to Nixon. Nixon was guilty of what Government officials do every day. Nixon's sin was impounding money (ear marks). All the members of Congress wanted him out for that. Also some were upset with Nixon discarding wage and price controls and taking the Dollar completely off the gold standard. The Watergate stuff was similar to Blagojevich selling a Senate seat.

Jeff Sessions has been on the job for about a week.

Patience. We'll see what happens.

And no, there's no action by Trump that will suddenly stop the deep state or the violent anarchists from doing their things.

There is no silver bullet to this. This is going to be a long war with many battles. We won't win them all.

We don't need to get burnt out at every loss like the Left is currently doing. Having a more accurate view of the battles being wages and the battlefield itself (the federal government) will help people focus on the important wins and losses.

I don't think Flynn is an important battle overall, personally.

A bit dismayed that Trump seemingly caved - Democrats never cave, they circle the wagons and stick their middle fingers in the air. OTOH, when a Republican tries to appease them, they - invariably - escalate their attacks.

However, three things:

(1) This is an initial skirmish among many; anyone thinking Trump's presidency would be a smooth ride was kidding themselves.

(2) Trump has earned some good will from me, a skeptic who voted for him only as a vote against Hilary!

(3) From what I have read and understand of the man, Trump places a high value on loyalty from subordinates. Part of this may be making a statement that he will not hesitate to act quickly and ruthlessly as he sees fit.

Of course, it might end up being a good move long-term - but there's no doubting that the left is going to crow about this in the meantime as a huge victory for them. But hey, that's politics - it ain't bean bag. Let them have their perceived minor win, especially if it makes them take their eye off the ball.

(Of course, they've got enough agitators to fight on multiple fronts, but every voice counts - time spent celebrating the great Flynn caper is time not spent on weightier things like immigration and Obamacare)

I'm confused by the assumption that Trump caved to the left.

He's been through worse accusations, and he's always stood his ground. If he's "caving" now, then there must be something different about the situation, right?

I really does kind of have the feel of Chris Christie's outing form the inner circle. Trump feels like he couldn't trust Christie anymore, so he got pushed out. It had nothing to do with leftist narratives, but behavior he saw from Christie.

I think it's safe to assume that Trump is continuing the pattern he's already established and feels that Flynn is no longer a valuable member of his staff, and asked for the resignation.

531 518 Of course, it might end up being a good move long-term - but there's no doubting that the left is going to crow about this in the meantime as a huge victory for them.

680 Some questions:

1st, What did Flynn discuss with the Russkies, and per se does that raise to a level of concern;

2nd, What did Flynn tell, or withhold, from Pence and/or Trump; and

3rd, What evidence, either way, is there in regards to Yates claim to have warned about Flynn?

In the end, it was Trump's decision to cut Flynn loose. In doing this he caved in to his political and bureaucratic opposition. Nunes told me Monday night that this will not end well. "First it's Flynn, next it will be Kellyanne Conway, then it will be Steve Bannon, then it will be Reince Priebus," he said. Put another way, Flynn is only the appetizer. Trump is the entree.

IOW, the Left/GOPe is axiomatically evil, and Trump, being in opposition thereto, is as a corollary just as axiomatically good? Let us eschew with this nonsense that anything less that full blind faith and loyalty to anyone is proof of villainous intent.

696 Just can't get excited about Flynn one way or another. PDT has the right and duty to have his own advisors -- or not.

Pence only grew a spine when he was chosen by PDT, so my best guess is that those agitating to get rid of PDT think he will be more malleable. They'll try to get their beamish boy ex-CIA McMuffin appointed as VP, and all questions about the old GOPers running their own State Dept and Pentagon will magically go away and life will go on as before.

698 581 If Melania Trump was dumpy and unattractive, would they still be calling her a hooker and vilifying her this way?

They would be calling her dumpy and ugly and vilifying her as an ignorant Slav. They would make fun of her for being "abused" by playboy Donald. Whatever.

Sure, SOME of the bile by SOME individuals might be caused by envy, but for the most part it's ideological.

699 Did anyone see the ignorant leftist twit on Tucker last night?

She claims Milo is "racist, misogynist, and a homophobe."

And you'll be pleased as pie to learn she's a middle school "teacher."

===================

I went to my very first hockey game this weekend. Minor league in Charleston.

It was fun.

It's no baseball, though.

708 Does it seem logical to you that the squishy GOP will really investigate the first female presidential campaign manger in history for attempting a light hearted defense of another highly successful female? Piece togrther how that's a win for them
Posted by: Deplorable Male Logic at February 14, 2017 03:02 PM (lKyWE

Because the Squish GOP is on The same team as the Dims and the MSM. KAC is viewed by feminists as worse than men. Why? Because she turned against women and the sisterhood. She is not a member of the tribe.

You think the GOP gives a shit about the elections and votes in 2018. They control the RNC large donors so unless they ft primaries, they get rewarded for saying ball with the establishment. Hell even if they get primaried they get rewarded with $$$$$$ in the revolving door that is DC.

The goal is to get rid of Trump by any means necessary. I have not forgotten the GOPe, DIMs, NeverTrumoers from the election including their donors, MSM, and Global Governance Crowd.

So yes KAC is not viewed as a woman. She is viewed as the enemy and an obstacle to be removed to get to Trump.

709 Watching an old video of Jacqueline Kennedy giving a White House tour circa 1961. If Melania Trump gave such a tour nowadays, using Jacqueline's exact words, half the population would absolutely eviscerate her in the foulest language possible.

And John McCain and Lindsey Graham would agree with the h8ers.

I'm glad Mrs. Trump is staying out of the gun-sights of the left.

So much for the Flynn story staying on the front page, LOL.

Oh, and I went to the link from above regarding Tiffany Trump at Fashion Week.

The pink pumps are not my look, for sure. And can someone tell me who the weirdo is sitting next to her? Certainly not SS, I hope.

The rest of the attendees all look like they just came from the local methodone clinic. Especially Anna Wintour and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Madonna got there late, but was in her predictable mini skirt and fishnets. Looking like she just came off the nearest streetcorner.

Give me Ivanka's fashion line any day.

I think Sharp is gone, whether he stays gone is an off-season issue. Stars can get a nice haul for him and Patrick Eaves. Just need to have somebody take Lehtonen or Niemi.

Dallas has a hockey team because I deemed it necessary. I became a 'carpet-bagging' Texan in 1991 and the vapor trail sucked the Stars right down I-35.
