39 CBD, this in itself is the perfect retort to the premise of the recently evacuated thread. "If we had the power to do so..." here is the power they desire, and guess what. They aren't producing the intelligent community necessary to "take over the world", and they are completely content with failed results as long as the sweet, sweet paychecks and benefits continue to flow like honey.

I am not afraid of Trump spending tax dollars to do the government business, only because, he and his billionaire cabinet members did not get to their financial station because they don't value money, rather they properly appreciate what money is, can do, can't do and will be very focused on how it is spent. Unlike the prostitutes in congress who can't find a reason not to oblige money at problems real or imagined.

75 Many on the left, even at your basic street level rather than activists, are "programmed" to assume all functions should be performed by government.

That's why they say you're against healthcare if you oppose government-run healthcare, and against education if you're an advocate for private education (and how they can claim a Hebrew scholar who writes about art history and invented parallel computing is "anti-intellectual").

Also, a lot of them do this as a deliberate rhetorical tactic, like how all taxes go to police, fire, and schools when its time for a cut, and there's no distinction between an illegal immigrant and a legal one because, well, if there was they couldn't attack the law and the culture without being seen doing it.

As said above, they are *far* more concerned with *owning* education, financially, administratively, and rhetorically, than they are in educating, which is why reform has been sabotaged and rejected for many decades.

Same reason they didn't actually *reform* immigration law when they had power so much as deliberately set a policy of not enforcing the laws they couldn't bother to change. Selective enforcement is far more useful to the corrupt than decent laws.

79 Well pep, I don't have any detailed actual knowledge of the situation, of course, but I do think that DHS knows the mechanics of deporation, appeals, detention, etc., and hard to imagine they haven't given the pipeline any consideration as they planned these enforcement actions.

Of course they also would have to factor in lawfare, including the lawless judiciary.

This is one reason I have been fulminating about the response to the WA district/9th's absurd coup attempt. If this sort of interference isn't crushed, it's not just about the damage (in that case) to the const. structure itself, it's that it will certainly encourage other judges to single-handedly shut down enforcement of law, hoping time/fatigue/ignorance and "compassion" will bog down immigration enforcement.

84 Keep hearing more panicked reports of illegal roundups. Which is kind of weird since, according to the libs, Obama deported more illegals than anyone, ever. And the number prove it! He was particularly ruthless with illegals that committed crimes, which the current raids are focused on.

So why all the hysteria since Obama was already deporting illegals, especially criminals, at record numbers? It's as if those numbers were completely phony and nobody at all was being deported. But that couldn't be, right?

The Puritans invented it. The important thing to keep in mind, though, is that although a public school system can be a great thing, IT CAN ALSO BE A BAD THING IF A**HOLES WORM THEIR WAY INTO POSITIONS OF POWER.

It seems that we are at the point where they are doing more harm than good, precisely because a**holes are in power. So it should be done away with. The a**holes have no one to blame but themselves. They turned a potentially good thing rotten, and they need to shut the f*ck up.

One with kids in school "I'm more qualified than she is" Pretty funny when DeVos' history is devoted to the notion that 'ALL parents should be presumed to be more qualified to decide what school is best for their kids.' And the liberals at my work happen to have a school district that allows them to choose from any school in the district and the state is pretty charter school friendly.

Don't get me started. It's the worst in math. All this common core bullshit jettisons tried-and-true methods of learning math and approaching problem-solving in favor of overly-complicated unnecessary horseshit that turns a four-step process into a ten-step process and leaves kids in tears. I can't count how many times I've said "That's retarded, let me show you how to actually solve these" when helping my kids with their math homework.

107 @60 I have one of those in the kitchen, and one upstairs where I put a combination fan and light in where only a single switched line was built in.

Couple of things. First, many codes require remote-control switches to be downstream from an actual, physical, off switch. And that's because:

Every time the power goes off, that switch will default to "on." And when the power comes back, the light will be on.

If you think about it, that's a safety consideration, because if you're sitting in the dark, you don't want the light to default to "off," now, do you?

But, if you have several of those, you'll have to go all over the house turning the lights back off, before you go and reset all your digital clocks and timers.

If that was my video, I'd have shown actual footage of him pulling the fuse/tripping the breaker. Only industrial electricians work on a hot box.

109 84 Keep hearing more panicked reports of illegal roundups.

Of course everyone has 17 familiar rationales for how nullification is dangerous/unthinkable/unwise - which have remained just as shiny, and as hollow, as they were when first rolled out, decades ago, before the courts had ravaged the const. system, and much of the economy, culture, and national security.

This is what happens when eductrats get the idea to teach intuitive shortcuts that people develop on their own after years of doing math. Worse, everybody that does lots of math develops their own particular custom mental shortcuts and rounding methods to make problem solving easier. 203 So, real question -- were criminal aliens actually being deported, resulting in lower crime rates?

I'd say no. One of the things Colin Flaherty (YouTube reporter and author) documents through his reporting is the manipulation of crime statistics through reduced arrests, call responses, and report filing. His angle is mainly aimed at the reporters and politicians who ignore, deny, excusing, condone, encourage, and lie about black mob violence, black-on-white crime, black criminality, and how it is wildly out of proportion.

I would suspect though, that illegal immigrant crime is another one of those "no arrests, so no reports, so no crime occurred, generating no crime statistics" type of situation.

Crime may only be slightly down across the board country-wide, but I'd wager certain cities (Democrat-run cities) have had a marked increase in violent crime.

296 All Americans, not only in the States most heavily affected but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. In the budget I will present to you, we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. We are a nation of immigrants. But we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.

I attended a presentation by... I think it was Oleg Kalugin? at my university ca. 1999. He talked quite a bit about how they recruited assets in the US who were more than happy to follow along. He also mentioned an anecdote about meeting his CIA counterparts and how stunned he was at how inept they were at infiltrating agents into the USSR, and how inside the USSR, they were convinced that the CIA was everywhere.

"We couldn't walk around without tripping over CIA agents"

Singapore routinely tops the international league tables in primary education math achievement. There's no deep dark secret to the curriculum materials they use. It's all publicly available. Homeschoolers can and do adopt the "Singapore Math" books for their kids.

However, it also helps to have a student body who have the genetics which Singapore schools enjoy, and those genetics are not in ample supply in the student body of Jefferson Middle School.

Better course design and more competent teaching could certainly improve performance for students such as those at Jefferson from where it is now, but it's not going to make them equal in achievement to their Asian peer cohort. Nothing's going to do that. No amount of money will suffice.

354 the recruiting tool for ISIS is that they get sex slaves and can kill "infidels" at will, and plunder what they find.

when the West stands up to them (kills or arrests them) or builds walls, that hurts recruitment.

368 Christianity: Calls you to be a better person. Forgives if you do bad things, but does not condone the sin.

Islam: Calls for you to be what your darker instincts want you to be. Any sin can be forgiven if you are doing it in service to that religion.

I have always liked the idea of sin as spiritual damage- the idea that you are separating yourself from God by committing a sin. By repentance and good works, you are in turn repairing that damage and thereby bringing yourself back to a closer harmony with God. I find the concept jives better with the idea of free will.

Islam might as well be from another planet. You can bring yourself closer to God by committing things that are supposed to be condemned by that God.

firing bad teachers would be a good start

performance standards that are more than corrupt grade inflation

kick out violent kids and keep them blocks away from school areas.

give work training jobs for last two years for many underperformers

bring back real civics to replace the commie propaganda

each kid gets a laptop ... or maybe each desk, kid just logs in each class.

lots of 5 minute you-tube teachings, with interactive followups. Better than a teacher droning on teaching to slowest student for 50 minutes. Let teacher oversee and do one on one help. kids advance at own pace (a teacher started this via chapter "packets" for "Chem-Phys" in my class 44 years ago. Some of us whipped through them five times faster than most)

encourage home school groups and programs, when parents are able. Teacher monopolies and strikes must end.

412 I teach at a public high school and am finishing an educational leadership degree. Practically everyone I know is freaking out about DeVos.

I even got into an argument with my father-in-law, a former educator, who thought DeVos is going to kill public education. I told him that if he wanted what was best for kids, he'd appreciate public schools having healthy competition.

The big excuse they use on that one is that charters and private schools don't serve special-needs students well. I don't understand this because it's something that could certainly be regulated, and frankly, a lot of public schools don't accommodate SPED students very well either. My own campus is being audited by the state education agency for discrepancies in the SPED program.

It all just reinforces my hunch that, for some, public education is a racket to provide jobs for teachers.

RACE WAR ALERT

The article by a black student was just published in the student newspaper at UPenn:

http://www.thedp.com/article/2017/01/ james-fisher-privelege-does-not-exist-to-white-penn-professors

This is actually an extremely important article because it basically sums up the entire current mindset of young America.

Is it breathtakingly ignorant? Yes.

Is it infuriating to the nth degree? Yes.

It is outrageously presumptuous, racist and bullying? Yes, yes and yes.

Is it indicative that the helter-skelter End Times are very very near? Yes.

It's so important that it merits a full citation here.

Read it and either, a.weep, or b. start stockpiling ammunition for the coming race war:

'Privilege' does not exist to White Penn professors — and they keep 'trying it'

"Last semester was honestly the worst semester I’ve had at Penn so far. And all because of one thing: the white professors I’ve had at Penn. It appears that the term “privilege” does not apply to them. Nor do they care to learn what it is.

Imagine being a black student on Penn’s campus with even one of these types of professors. I had three. And each one of those professors either did not care to learn about their white privilege, or lied to me and said that they did.

Understanding their privileges to them is very different. They think that by not saying racist comments in class, they are doing good. Not knowing that that half-hearted attempt further contributes to the oppression that I experience in my predominantly white classrooms.

One of my professors, for example, constantly perpetuated these systems of oppression in class. He is a white man from the suburbs. And as the only black student in the class, I was already fearing the possibility of getting mad over something stupid that he was going to say. But I gave him a chance.

Unfortunately, he proved my suspicions to be true. There were countless times that his lack of acknowledgment of his privilege led to some of the trauma that I experienced in class. He would show images of slaves on plantations and even allow students to say ignorant comments in class.

I remember having an intense conversation after class. I basically told him that what he was doing was traumatic to me, and as someone who has experienced a lot of racial trauma in his life, I would not allow him to continue. He then used the argument that, in order to make the class a “safe space,” he had to protect the voices of all students in the class.

This is where the problem arose for me. This is the same argument that #AllLivesMatter people use. They argue that everyone should be equal and that no life is more important than another, not recognizing that since we live in a society that does not value black lives, we cannot assume that everyone is on the same playing field.

That is the epitome of privilege: assuming that everyone had the same comfortable life that you did.

So, because my professor wanted to protect the voices of the white students who benefit from black oppression, the oppression unfortunately continued. It even led to me mentally breaking down in the classroom. And while trying to console me, he said, “There is no way that I could acquire the wisdom that you possess.” That was exactly what I needed to hear! I think he thought that that was a compliment.

I stopped going to his class for a month. With different emotions going through my head from not only this class but from the Trump election, I did not want to step foot into another white space until I made sure that my mental health was restored.

These are the types of things that happen when white teachers do not want to acknowledge their privileges; they can psychologically hurt their students. It is not enough to be aware of your privilege. It is also not enough to be a nice person. Your niceness does not mean that you are not capable of contributing to racial systems of oppression.

It is not enough that you are sorry for the injustices caused by your people. It is not enough that you read one article on the Black Lives Matter movement because your black friend recommended it to you. It is not enough that you gave your black students extensions on their papers because Trump got elected.

The truth is, you as a single person cannot make up for the horrific things that white people have done to us throughout human history. But that does not mean that you do not have the power to stop yourself from oppressing the students that you teach every day.

You have to be invested in stopping racism and oppression every day, not just on your free time."

It's called the 'hidden curriculum'. Show up on time, read instructions, move from task to task in an orderly fashion, take direction from the foreman teacher. Everything you need to do to be a successful 19th century factory worker.

There are kids who can get an actual education (whatever that is) in such a regime, but others can't. It's efficient at doing what it actually does, which is not what they advertise, but you need a multiplicity of approaches to really teach the greatest number of kids possible.

Posted by: Vlad the Impaler, whittling away like mad at February 12, 2017 03:47 PM (aBDYc)

450 Special needs children my bleeding backside. I live in a large metropolitan K-12 district. Between the elementary, middle and high schools, and various magnet and special needs campuses, it's got about forty schools. Enrollment varies over the years (it's been as low as 18,000 and as high as 33,000 while I've lived here. Right now it's about 28, 000). The kids who are deeply physically "challenged" have a very modern campus of their own where they can get the physical help they need. Kids that are close to being able to be mainstreamed are mainstreamed on the various campuses. But the fact is that for special needs students, one size doesn't fit all. We focus so much on the relatively smaller group of special needs kids and taking care of their problems, that we ignore the bright kids, and don't pay a hell of a lot of attention to those in the middle.

So teachers unions--leck mich am arsch. A fine old German saying in deed.

Grrrrrrrrrrr.

-College should be reserved for grown-ups. Many of the students would benefit from a couple of years working before attending. Just sayin'.

-This kid is not only psychologically too immature to attend college, but is almost certainly not up to the academic standards of Penn. If s/he went to a school where the average student was on his/her level of competence, s/he probably wouldn't be so miserable.

-AS ALWAYS, the problem is not with the student but with the supposed adults who tolerate this nonsense or even promote it. The job of a teacher is to impart a subject, not to make students feel good about themselves or save the world.
But our colleges are no longer serious places.

In underclass areas, it used to be the case that on the first day of school, they'd have kids showing up unfed or without tied shoes.

Now the parental neglect problem has gotten so bad that kids are arriving at school quite literally not even knowing their own names. Their "parents" have absolutely minimal interaction wiht the child; they don't even converse with the child. READ to them? That happens in another galaxy.

I am sorry to say that I also served under Barbara Bullock, former head of the Teachers' Union, who went to jail for stealing a cool $5,000,000.00 for her own use. That is where my union dues went. And I had no choice, as DC is a closed shop.
