Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Democrats Vow to Filibuster Trump's Supreme Court Pick -- Whoever It IsSo they're just planning to keep the seat (and any other seat that opens) vacant for at least another four years -- and maybe eight years, if they keep going the way they're going. Senator Jeff Merkin of Oregon came up with the catchy hashtag meme-- this is a "stolen seat," and therefore, the Democrats will not allow it to be filled until there's a Democrat president. Orin hosta is one of the ringleaders of the "conservative" Senators who refuses to use the nuclear option. 1, will he change his mind if the Democrats do filibuster anyone (except a provable liberal)? I doubt it. Many of these fuckers are a lot more liberal than they pretend in the nine months before an election and rely on Democrats having the power of the filibuster precisely to frustrate their actually-conservative fellow Senate members. That way they can make noise about conservative agenda points, while actually blocking those agenda points. They get the best of both worlds -- they can pretend to be conservatives while acting as the handmaidens of the Progressive Transnational Superstate. 2, when can we primary this old fool, and can we finally stop electing or re-electing soft squishy RINOs (and actual liberals) from red states like Utah and South Carolina?Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

The other factor for the GOPe is that McCain and Graham often place emphasis on deference to presidential prerogative when it comes to selecting SCOTUS and cabinet picks.
So, the GOPe will have two different traditions of the Senate butting heads: the filibuster and deference to the president's picks. Which will they chose? Posted by: TheJamesMadison at January 30, 2017 04:43 PM (BjrOM) 6

I have a feeling ol' Trump is going to have the last word on this. Unlike B. Hussein Obama, who had nothing in particular to say about his alleged Supreme Court pick, Joseph Merrick, because it really wasn't his pick, and he couldn't care less, since it had nothing to do with him or his golf game, Trump will fight for his guy. For years the Republicans were focused on procedure over results.
I presumed then that they just couldn't get it through their heads that no one cared. No one. Over time though I realized that they focused on process preciously because it did not matter. Every election they could come out and say, aw schucks the Dems out witted us with dirty tricks again sorry folks! We just need you to give us every seat in the Congress, the Presidency, 9 SC Justices, and the Democrat county chairman seat from the Upper West side in Manhatten and THEN we'll deliver on all of our promises! If Trump doesn't nominate as conservative judge, he should be impeached. The the Republican senate doesn't overturn a Dem filibuster we should remove every Senator that doesn't vote to nuke the filibuster even if it means a Dem will take their place. I don't care about rhetoric, I don't care about process - the Republicans have been given the steering wheel right as the Dems were about to drive the car over the cliff. This is the last chance we have as a nation. Posted by: 18-1 at January 30, 2017 04:58 PM (aZq03) 113

This is just the beginning, and the left, along with the radical internationalists, are only just beginning to turn what was a cold war, perhaps into a hot war. It is better that people who actually care about the republic's survival start to harden their hearts. One real possibility: Trump starts to really crack down on sanctuary cities and California decides to withhold federal tax dollars, or some other crack pot idea. Will other Democrat states like Oregon, Washington, heck even New York join in? Once again Trump is bringing this to a head now and it is a blessing (even if his critics are right that he does not realize it, or want it). I think our country is close to a civil war. It is not Trump's fault. The left was fully revealed by his election.
*** After 2012 the Left believed that they were about to finally get their Brave New World. There was no opposition politically any more, and swamping the country with people opposed to traditional American values would cement that. All they needed was for the American people to sleep just a bit longer. And then Trump ran and starting saying things Republicans weren't allowed to say. And people, at least enough people, woke up and saw that this really was there last chance to stop something they didn't want...and so they elected Trump, and enough Republicans to stop the country's drive off the cliff of socialism. Trump seems to be not only stopping the drive to the left (something no Republican has done since Reagan) but to actually roll it back (something no Republican has done since Coolidge) This is...unacceptable...to the left. But they only have two choice now - browbeat Republicans into betraying the public or taking up arms. So far the browbeating hasn't worked. Posted by: 18-1 at January 30, 2017 05:14 PM (aZq03) 240

In other words he's gonna do just enough to keep Saudi oil production profitable. Next step, quietly execute a few Wahhabists. If Trump gets what he's after we're gonna see a decade of $66/bbl oil. I know Hatch is opposed to ending the legislative filibuster. I don't doubt that he is hesitant to do so for the SCOTUS filibuster, but I haven't seen anything where he addressed it directly. The most recent quotation from Hatch I could find is this one.
Republicans are in position to rewrite the rules to get rid of it with 51 votes. One person that would stand in the way is Utah Senator, Orrin Hatch. Hatch says there's no way the effort would get his vote. "If we didn't have the filibuster the minority would be nothing in this country. It would be just like the House where 51% vote does everything," said Hatch, (R) Utah. The seven term senator has been on both sides and has pulled out the filibuster himself. "Just go back to the first, big filibuster that I had to conduct. It was labor law reform. Had we lost that, we would be socialism today," said Hatch. http://www.good4utah.com/news/top-stories/senator- hatch-vows-to-defend-the-filibuster/611185140 That is about the filibuster in general; nothing said about the SCOTUS one. The thing that makes it seem like the SCOTUS filibuster will die is how definitive McConnell has been that Trump's nominee will get through. Whatever else can be said about McConnell, he is usually cautious about making statements like that unless he has the votes. That still leaves room for 2 GOP defectors, but if Hatch will be one of them, I don't know. So many possibilities. Collins, Murkowski, Graham, McCain,... I better stop before I name them all. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-saudi-idUSKBN15D14L Saudi Arabia's King Salman, in a telephone call on Sunday with U.S. President Donald Trump, agreed to support safe zones in Syria and Yemen, a White House statement said. Trump, during his presidential campaign last year, had called for Gulf states to pay for establishing safe zones to protect Syrian refugees. A statement after the phone call said the two leaders agreed on the importance of strengthening joint efforts to fight the spread of Islamic State militants. "The president requested, and the King agreed, to support safe zones in Syria and Yemen, as well as supporting other ideas to help the many refugees who are displaced by the ongoing conflicts," the statement said. I don't see how you can vet "ordinary" refugees from these seven countries. But then I don't see why "ordinary" refugees should be coming here at all. Better helped where they are. College students can and should be vetted. And then mostly go home. Problem with vetting until now is that it's been PC-vetting. Warning signs with terrorists and their supporters were often ignored. Well, ace, you can primary that old fool any time you decide that his foolishness warrants exercising that recall provision in the penumbra of the Second Amendment. THAT'S WHAT THE FOUNDERS INTENDED IT FOR. Nothing else. Do you disagree? Same thing goes for all the other RINOs. Not something to be exercised lightly.... but not something to discard entirely, either. Posted by: SDN at January 30, 2017 06:53 PM (Qlq4e) 574
Do you not comprehend the thrust of this post and most of the comments? Trump has to get around the GOP, not the Dems. And he can't just decree his pick.
------ If he gets enough Dems, thats how he gets around the GOP. Maybe you dont comprehend. Posted by: Mega at January 30, 2017 06:58 PM (ia997) 575
Trump needs to come out and name names of the GOPe obstructors.

Or when there is a primary and general election. Just a thought there, Spartacus. Posted by: James Murdoch at January 30, 2017 07:32 PM (7yo7t) 577

1. Hopefully Sessions (and Tillerson, for that matter) will be in the saddle next week and they will clean their respective departments of Obama retreads.
2. All that is required for a rules change in the Senate is 51 votes. That's how Dingy Harry the Searchlight Strangler did it. Pence sits as President of the Senate to make up for desiccated fossils like Hatch and it's a done deal. And the Demonrats will come to regret forcing this move. 3. I was contemplating in the shower that I'm grumpy and fat; but, more to the point, that the insanity among the left is bad for everybody. We need a SANE opposition. They've become so unhinged so rapidly that people are starting to tune them out just to tone the noise down. But we need thoughtful opposition to act as a corrective to inevitable mistakes and that's gone until they get their act together and stop acting like Trump is Pazzuzu's cousin. 5. We're going to start seeing A LOT more mobies. They desperately, desperately want their propaganda victories and will go to ridiculous extents to find them. And now I have to write my nightly 1000 words, so I'll see you on the ONT. Posted by: joncelli, Deplorable Yet Fuzzy at January 30, 2017 08:43 PM (1FhAQ) 581
