Trump Begins Cutting Regulations

Regulations costing businesses and citizens $5.7 billion -- rushed into action as Obama was leaving for his post-presidential golf tour -- will be eliminated today.

His order also demanded that for every new regulation put into effect, two regulations would have to be rescinded, and that the net cost of further regulations must be $0.

"The Obama administration was busy during its 'midnight' period for regulation, breaking records for December regulatory output, and publishing $157 billion in regulations," according to a new report from the regulatory watchdog American Action Forum.

...

"With votes this week in the U.S. House, repeals could save more than $5.7 billion in regulatory costs and 2.6 million paperwork burden hours," added the report provided to Secrets.

...

And if Trump gets very aggressive, a total of $85 billion in regulations could be repealed this spring.

This is probably bigger than almost anything else he could do.

If he can get serious cuts in regulation from the executive branch, it could open up business opportunity that had been chocked off before.

We really could potentially see 4-5% growth over the next few years.

Do you want more Trump? Cause this is how you get more Trump.

13 The Saga:

The Golden Scalp Weasel lolls about in the sun streaming through the windows as Trump works.
"Which one is this, boss?" Rience asks.
"This is the EO to alter the purchase rules for Congressional automobiles. Democrats get to use Yugos."
"Are there still any Yugos around? That was a long time ago and those things weren't particularly roadworthy. Or bridgeworthy. Or off-the-bridge-and-into-the-air-worthy."
"Not my problem."
Reince takes the EO and says "You know, the Democrats will drum up lots of protestors for this. They'll be outside the gates."
"I know, I got a plan it's beyootiful."

***********

The protestors outside the gate are loud and incoherent. Some look confused as they protest Trump mandating that politicians use economy cars.
"While I know he is Hitler, I just can't find too much wrong with this."
"You can't? Heretic!" Another protestor hits the first with a sign. "He wants to send our beloved leadership off bridges in Serbo-Croatian coffins! Hate crime!"
Other protestors arrive and beat the first one senseless, a fairly easy feat. The protestors resume protesting when another one starts waving his arms and shouting.
"Quick! To the bus station! We have to get to North Dakota! Trump is banning Canadian winter winds from entering North Dakota! We have to get on site to protest his evil actions and welcome the Canadian winds with open arms!"
The protestors race away in flurry of signs, smells, and litter.

*********

"You're plan is to keep all of these goofs on a perpetual outrage spiral and to keep them haring from one end of the country to another every day to half-day?"
"That's it! Soon they won't even be able to recall what they are supposed to be protesting, they'll start arguing over who has the right sign, then they'll tear themselves to pieces in fury as they purge their movement of the weak and heretical."
"Do you think they'll fall for that? Oh what am I saying - I'm from Wisconsin - of course they will."

The Golden Scalp Weasel wakes from its nap long enough to give a sly wink.

I believe that the federal register is something like 80,000 pages long.

As POTUS, I'd be personally tempted to burn half of it on the spot and then start from there.

Obama taught me that the president can do anything, anyway, as long as representatives from the business community thinks it's a good idea, much like delaying the employer mandate which was spelled out statutorily.

92 In Canada,

The One-for-One Rule, which came into effect on April 1, 2012, places strict controls on the growth of regulatory red tape on business. Under the One-for-One Rule, for every new regulation added that imposes an administrative burden on business, one must be removed.

Supposedly, it IS helping in keeping red tape from growing.

But I like Trump's version much better.

102 "and that the net cost of further regulations must be $0"

The problem with adopting such a stipulation is that the metrics in question have been cynically gamed by Democrats for many years.

If you look at the Obama EPA's analyses of their jihad against traditional energy sources, all of their various crippling regulatory intrusions, costly taxes, and outright bans all pencilled out net positive for the economy.

Not least because liberals claim that global warming will incur huge secondary costs to society in infrastructural adaptation and 'elf-n-safety measures.

So, purportedly slashing CO2 output prevents global warming and means those societal expenses won't have to be booked. Voila! The accounts are in the black!

119 Some of the regs are going to be done through Trump's power as president. He orders the agencies to cut some regs and they do. But, others are getting undone by Congress. There is a law that lets then undo any regulation promulgated in the last 60 days, and it only takes a simple majority. Filibusters are disallowed for this process.

So, many of the last minute regulations rushed into effect as Obama was on his way out the door are getting the axe from Congress. But, as the Washington Examiner piece explains (via Glenn Reynolds), the Obama administration didn't follow the rules for many regulations going back much longer than the last 60 days. An agency is required to do two things when promulgating a new regulation:
1. Publish it in the Federal Registrar
2. Send a report to Congress

The 60 day clock starts ticking when both of those things have been done. But, for many regulations, Obama never sent a report to Congress. So, they can undo some older regs through this process as well.

went on to suggest that a Trump impeachment was the correct remedy.

Cue the establishment GOP still wondering, "How did he do it?"

Also, when you see ABC News repeatedly and dishonestly attempting to sandbag Trump, remind yourself that the Disney brass were *not* happy with Trump calling them out in public on their shenanigans, and that ABC is just another tentacle of the Mauschwitz media empire.

Apparently in their rush to find someone from the affected countries to interview, CNN did a live interview with an Iraqi. The interview went a bit south when apparently (I haven't watched the interview myself) the guy complimented Trump's actions.

2) Company runs a job ad specifying that particular candidate's *precise* experience and education, with an offered salary 50% or 60% of what an American worker would get.
3) No one applies for the job because of the low offered salary (and because everyone recognizes the scam).

Good thing I'm not press secretary. My answer would have been, "Former President Obama had 8 years to take action on these items and chose to go golfing and attend parties with "interesting" celebrities instead. He now has the rest of his life to continue in the actions he took as President. Response? Sure. We wish FORMER President Obama all the best in his 9th consecutive year of golf and vacationing and hope he finds more interesting people to talk to and party with".

no, you have it exactly backwards. The cities in OR are smaller than in WA state. Seattle has hard core socialists on their city council. WA is headed for one party rule. Spider came close in the press briefing.

Alt version: President Trump took decisive action in his first week of to better security the country from threats posed by 7 countries identified by the prior administration months and years earlier and they failed to take any action on whatsoever despite increasing attacks resulting in the death of Americans here and numerous innocent people abroad. It is nice to hear that after 8 years of inaction, retirement has offer former President Obama ample time to come off the golf course long enough to offer some thoughts on these long pending issues. Former President Obama can enjoy his 9th year of vacation and feel safer thanks to President Trump. Now we have more work to do to catch up on items that he failed to address."
