In fact, such a thing was discussed at the highest levels, but not recently.
After the military victory (which eventually resulted in the Treaty of Hidalgo Guadalupe), James Polk was all for going all the way to Mexico City and claiming it for the US.

It's all an effort to win a news cycle.

At this point in Trump's presidency, though, what kind of victory does Schumer expect that to be?

A single two minute beat on the evening news and then never again because Trump has filled the air with other stuff?

And the price for that will be pissing of Senate Republicans making them less likely to work with him?

Schumer is an idiot. I don't like to throw such things around all that likely, but I'm pretty sure that he's stupid. He's watched Reid work, but he's never had to do the sort of dance himself, sitting in his safe seat in New York. And, on top of that, it's dumb.

114 You know, it occurs to me that the Left had exactly one winning strategy in the last 17 years, and that strategy was Obama. All the anti-war stuff didn't stop Bush in 2004, though it did get close by 2006. Obama won in 2008, but then the Tea Party came along in 2010 and neutralized just about all of their gainz. Obama managed to win again in 2014, while Dems everywhere else got rekt. And now they lost again to Trump.

So what is the left doing now? They're doubling down on the same strategy that has proven not to work for an entire generation. Obama's message wasn't a divisive one (his campaign tone, I mean). He talked about "hope" and "racial healing" and a bunch of other things that sound warm and fuzzy. The funny thing is that they already blew their load about Trump. They've been comparing him to Hitler for over a year now. There's no more extreme charges that they can put on him.

The Tea Party and Trump were both successful because they appealed to people that the GOP wasn't reaching before. Occupy Wall Street was not successful because it didn't persuade anybody that wasn't already convinced. It's the same reason that I'm not worried at all about these protests. They're not trying to convince Trump's supporters, they're just insulting them. That's not a strategy to start winning when you're losing.

117 About Christian refugees from Syria.

This is beyond fake news. It's a lie that I've seen several times in the last few days on MSM. Here's one example:

WaPo gives Trump Two Pinochios for saying that it is "very tough" for Syrian Christians to become refugees in the United States, and that they have been "horribly treated," even though WaPo admits "that a relatively small percentage of [Christian] Syrian refugees have been admitted," even giving the 2016 figures which show 89 Christians out of 15,134 Syrian refugees, the rest Muslims.

WaPo sell this whopper by saying that it's not true for refugees from Iran, even though Trump's statement is expressly about Syria.

WaPo digs an even deeper hole by saying that "no one understands why there is such a disparity," when it's common knowledge that we've outsourced our refugee process to the UN. Christians (and Yazidis) don't go into the UN camps in Syria because the Muslims there will kill them when they sleep.

118 Brought up from the bitter end of the previous thread.

Slightly OT perhaps, but it's too good to resist --- on Judith Dein, one

re: airport detainees than the NY judge did --- her husband is one Alan Reisch, an
attorney who was busted in 2002 in a porn shop/theater in RI with 7
other guys, all with their pants down, pulling their own and each
others' puds while encouraging others in the store to join in:

http://tinyurl.com/znjwd2c

Dein was appointed in 2000, I see both she and he are live in Needham and are listed together in her father's obituary dated 1/22/17, so they're still married. hahaha.

The other Boston judge, one Allison Dale Burroughs, which name just screams lesbian to me, was recommended by Liz Warren and confirmed to the bench in Jan 2015.

Not really a fan of the Tillerson pick, but on the other hand, Bob Corker was also shortlisted for SecState, to which I responded with total horror (recalling his greasing the skids for Obama and Kerry's farcical Iran nuclear "deal").

And it's now been amply reconfirmed that it was a colossal mistake to have even considered and talked to Corker, because Corker is leading the Senate pushback against Trump's tightened entry scrutiny.

Apparently Corker is also teaming up with Dianne Feinstein (I know, I know, I've been suffering with that ditzy old cow as a Senator for decades) to take executive authority away from Trump on this topic.

My mind just keeps going back to the 2004-2006 era. Democrats were able to take advantage of bad news coverage of the war in Iraq to build a coalition that included a bevy of blue dog Democrats. They were able to recruit moderate-seeming Democrats in red states to appeal to middle America.

I do not see anything like that even beginning to form. I see an occasional article that describes a potential strategy around this idea, but are Democrats in power taking any of it to heart?

Do they have the time to try and figure out that their protest tactics and this potential strategy conflict really badly?

I remember reading Allahpundit a few weeks ago. Even he thought that Schumer wouldn't go this route because it invites the nuking of the filibuster meaning that we could easily see a RBG replacement who's in line with Scalia.

Maybe Schumer knows that there aren't enough votes to nuke it, but I wouldn't dismiss McCain's deference to the executive on appointments, which seems to be genuine.

304 272 The Marxists have zero idea what to do because for Alinsky and Cloward-Liven tactics to work, they bank on Christians fighting by Christian rules.

They have no idea what to do when the tactics and strategies of the Marxists are used against them.

349 Legal issues over Trump's temporary travel ban aren't complicated.

Aliens have no right to come here, but once they are here they have some rights under the 14th Amendment. This would include green card holders coming back from abroad.

Congress has plenary power here. Plenary = unqualified.
Congress has delegated its powers to the President. See 8 U.S. Code § 1182 - Inadmissible aliens, which in relevant part reads:

"Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate."

386 On this Quebec murderous rampage thing, I'd give the matter at least 96 hours before jumping to a conclusion.

In the US, that would a 48-hour rule.

Canada? Add 24 hours.
Quebec? Add another 24 hours.

Voila! 96 hour rule.

Fucking metric clocks.

Confusing. I heard Bissonnette was the shooter and Khadir what the witness. Has that changed?

392 That makes no sense. Salafists ARE Sunni Muslims.

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at January 30, 2017 01:34 PM (rF0hx)

If the mosque is not salafist, then they are apostates and must be killed. A "moderate" Sunni, is Murtadeen. It is the same thing in ISIS controlled al Anbar, they are killing Sunni as quickly as they were killing the Shi'a dominated Iraqi soldiers because they don't follow the Salafist doctrines espoused by Abu Bakr and his Caliphate.
