The Media's Incompetence and Ignorance Is a Bigger Problem Than Their Bias

Lots of "WOW" reactions about senior State officials resigning:

So a "wow" from a young-un know-nothing.

But Matt Lee, a more experienced diplomatic reporter, calls this a nothing:

It help to have a sense of history that extends further back that this morning's venti mochaccino.

35 This isn't incompetence or ignorance. This is the Washington Freaking Post! Either the reporter or the editor knows that these resignations happen every time a new President is inaugurated.

What this is is intentional "fake news." Knowing that this is a nothingburger, they nevertheless chose to publish it, not because they don't know the underlying fact, but because they think a significant number of the clicking public don't know that fact. It's straight-up propaganda.

So that's where we are on Day 6 of the Trump Era.

47 Okay. Yes these are PAS appointments, and as political appointees, would submit their resignation on the 20th. But Since they are admin types, they are usually kept on board, at least for a while, until replacements can be named, vetted and approved.

The big tell on this, to me, is the 221 mil payment to the Palis on TFG's last day, and State's admittance of 521 syrian refugees over the last couple of days.

These are the people that would have been privy to the details of these actions-particularly consular, with regards to the refugees. So, for them to leave abruptly makes me think that they were told to high tail it, or Tillerson and his staff are going to start an investigation.

I find this all delicious.

Well, here's the fun question for 1,000 bucks, Alex:
How many of the following 6 (the top of the chart) remained past the 1st quarter of 2009?

Democ/Global Affairs? Nope
Management? Yes
Public Diplomacy? Nope
Arms Control? Nope
EEAA? (new under O), so no...
PA? Nope

So, a shakeup under O'fluffer is "OK", but under Trumpf is "Baddd"

Got it.

Having actually met a few "journalism students", I am actually not sure about that.

I suspect and suppose there is a spectrum ranging from out and out liars, to those who report and believe what they want to believe and just don't go any deeper, to those who were never really taught how to fact check.

Some on the right, myself included, claimed that he quit because TWA 800 didn't crash, it was accidently shot down by the US Navy and nobody wanted to be on Bill's about to be sunk ship. Other, cooler heads, claimed that having a Sec State retire right before their bosses presumed re-election is nothing new. Turns out they were right, TWA 800 crashed for more mundane reasons, Bill got relected (yuck) and we got Albright (yuck X 2)

212 110 The reality is that most of the valuable work that the State Department does is performed by functionaries. Passports, visas, support for Americans overseas, etc.

The high level people are of necessity political, because the high level activities are by definition political.
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at January 26, 2017 12:29 PM (rF0hx)

Yes and no. Vice consuls, or new foreign service officers do the bulk of consular grunt work-but they are overseen by middle to higher management, depending on the post. It seems like it's basic gruntery, issuing B1-B2 visas, replacing lost or stolen passports, or (in my many cases) going to host country mental health hospitals and dealing with Americans who left country and had episodes of severe mental illness, and needed a lot of help,) but there are actually a lot of intricate strings that demand working with the host country very carefully. Often, the low level grunts are not enough for that.

As for upper level position, such as the ones just vacated, they may be political, but they are more often than not given to senior foreign service employees who have years of experience in the lower levels of that particular cone. Consular cannot be managed by someone who has never done consular work. Neither can admin or econ. These cones have precise functions, with large rule books (the dreaded FAM) that have specific rules and regulations to be followed for virtually any action taken on behalf of the Department. The fact that they have not been followed for the past eight years is more a reflection of the President than even the SecStates.

Political and public affairs are different matter, because they don't really rely on technical work. They are the cookie pushers. And frankly, anyone can do those jobs. It's why M, or the head of management (Patrick Kennedy) was an career dip, since someone not in the department could do the work easily or well.

But...Mr Kennedy allowed politics to get in the way of his work, and he has now left us with a completely effed up Department, with people in positions to which they should never have aspired, and in which they are doing immeasurable damage to US relations.

That last bit may have been my personal opinion, which doesn't really count for much, but hey.

I was interested in this the other day and looking it up I learned a trivium. Melania Knauss was born Melanija Knavs, which according to the krautish wiki is pronounced exactly the same.

She germanized the name for her modelling career.

Accounts of which languages she speaks vary, but it's at least Slovenian, German, French, and maybe also Serbian and Italian. That's harder than speaking four "languages" in the same Romance group.

I think the priorities of their donors are unrestricted trade into the US from cheap labor/non-regulated countries and the ability to import whatever foreign labor they want into the US to staff their businesses.

In all my years in corporate life and then again as a small business owner, I've never hired anyone from a resume and interview.

Either I knew the person or someone I knew recommended them for the job. Always a personal contact.

If you've gone through everyone you know to help you get a job, then start hanging out in bars around the company you want to work at. Meet someone who works there. Get them to like you.

If you still can't find work, then think about working for yourself.

Sometimes an issue gets so big it becomes a sine qua non. This issue is it. And the problem has been brewing for 20 odd years.

594 The cops announced they would not allow anyone to block any more roads or highways (like they have been doing when Obama was in office). And they followed through, physically yanking people off the roads and throwing them into vans.

Its almost as if the cops have been handcuffed by the Obama Justice Department for years, waiting to do their jobs but afraid to.

Whenever I hear about commeicrats blocking roads, I hear the words, "Red Rover, Red Rover, send my car right over...."

And I drive a beater.

595 -I was obviously according to one colleague, fulfilling some blond, big boobed conservative quota.

No one wanted to hear more about this???

596 the left is probably thinking thisis biblical proportions. Let my peoples go! and they left wandering in the political wilderness for decades (I hope)

597 in fairness to the policed, they have to clear the roadways for those humanless Uba cars getting ready to hit a protester or two.

598 I quit National Review for another reason: Their decision to go with Farcebook for comments. That's a read-killer for me. Why read something then not be able to take the author to task? Kevin Williamson hated the Disqust comments when he went full retard.

599 447 I had a degreed millenial telling me the other day that the russians and the Chinese had also put men on the moon. These folks are very miseducated

Perhaps it meant successful soft spacecraft landings, which USSR and China have done.

600 Good... this saves Trump the effort of firing all their sorry asses.

Even money sezs they all wiped their HDs... and the more interesting emails have 'accidentally' fallen into the nearest Memory Hole.

601 If the blog goes down then is there a time lock on the Barrel that springs open like the Nakatomi tower and releases unspeakable horrors from its secret basement?

602 I just heard that they actually WERE fired and the resignation was "fake news"

603 So the entrenched lifetime employees deciding to leave is going to hamper the new Secretary of State? Him getting to fill those positions, not just for his tenure but for the foreseeable future with his selections is somehow going to hamper him?

I'm, like, not really *afraid* of Trump, but what I f*cking hate about him is that he doesn't seem to *REALIZE* that he should be ashamed of himself for what he is.

He is not *WOKE*. He is the child of White Privilege. He
should ABASE himself! Abase yourself, Mr. Trump, and maybe then we will
forgive you, you deplorable asshole!

Posted by: SJW snowflake at January 26, 2017 01:49 PM (ZKlDy)

That's not a bad parody, but what people are beginning to figure out is that you're Lucy and everybody that tries to seek your abasement approval is Charlie Brown. You pull the football back at the last second no matter how much they grovel, and their getting tired of it, and just saying 'ah, hell I'll just be racist'.

606 So the self-appointed elitists who have presided over decades of world-wide destruction and anti-American policies at State left all at once.

Remind me of the downside here?
