Ukraine Also Sought to Interfere With US Election -- On Hillary's Side

I don't think this is going to get quite as much play as the Trump/Russia story.

Politico:

Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump backfire

Kiev officials are scrambling to make amends with the president-elect after quietly working to boost Clinton.

By KENNETH P. VOGEL and DAVID STERN 01/11/17 05:05 AM EST

Donald Trump wasn't the only presidential candidate whose campaign was boosted by officials of a former Soviet bloc country.

Ukrainian government officials tried to help Hillary Clinton and undermine Trump by publicly questioning his fitness for office. They also disseminated documents implicating a top Trump aide in corruption and suggested they were investigating the matter, only to back away after the election. And they helped Clinton's allies research damaging information on Trump and his advisers, a Politico investigation found.

A Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump, top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.

The Ukrainian efforts had an impact in the race, helping to force Manafort's resignation and advancing the narrative that Trump's campaign was deeply connected to Ukraine's foe to the east, Russia.

Welp, that really hurts the media's Narrative. I can't imagine them writing this story without attempting to make some distinction from the Russia/Trump story, in order to say "But Trump's still worse, see?"

But they were far less concerted or centrally directed than Russia's alleged hacking and dissemination of Democratic emails.

And there you go.

91 I don't like foreign meddling in our elections. I find it frustrating and annoying. But it happens, and its happened for a long time. The whole world has a lot at stake based on who wins in the White House, its hardly surprising they try to have a say and influence things in their favor.

Ukraine helping Clinton is... kind of stupid, really, I guess they bought into the "Putin and Trump are buddies" nonsense. She's absolutely the worst choice for them as president of the USA.

It went away quickly as the Clinton details started emerging.

I was watching the clip of Trump at the press conference in the Scott Adams piece Fenelon linked and I noticed again that Trump leans forward when a question is asked so that he can be sure he hears the question.

I find that quite interesting because it shows to me that he is attempting to give his focus to the person asking the question. I've noticed that before and I don't remember Obama making any efforts like that but then again I tried (HAHAHAH 9 DAYS HAHAHAH) to never watch him.

Also, I heard the last bit of the press conference on Rush and I couldn't help but notice that no matter the question Trump reframed it how he wanted to answer and just didn't bother accepting the premise of the question. About. Damn. Time.

Hillary Clinton made it very clear that she was selling favors. My presumption is that there were also a number of donations from prominent Ukrainians to the Clinton Global Fund as well.

When the American media is telling you Clinton is a lock to win, and Clinton is telling you to pay now or pay more later....it actually makes sense that the Ukraine tried to do what they could early on...

Trump's nominees are a sea-change from the faculty-lounge orgy of Obama and the neocon lizards of Bush 43.

There are, basically, three (slightly overlapping) contingents. One is the Achievers - the billionaires and otherwise private-sector types who have Made It. These are in the financial/banking slots. The next is the Antagonists - those who have exercised or at least voiced opposition to certain Federal operations, and are now to take charge of those operations. The third is the Flunkies - those whose positions were driven by political need.

The ranks of the Flunkies are blissfully small, and likely to be held to a tight leash.

What's notably missing from Trump's appointments is the Faculty Lounge, and for that we should cheer.

130 alex, rejecting/deconstructing/fisking/eviscerating the false premise of most press questions has been a bugaboo of some of us for ..... um .... well back into the Dubya years, at least.

Some of us have been whining that THIS approach must start to be the standard. It is the only way that the dumbed-down, misinformed electorate will be gradually brought back to a serious level. Simultaneously, it will put unbearable pressure on the press to improve their game - i.e., start asking serious intelligent questions based on a more reasonable premise.

As I said many times here, we'll know there's hope when an entire State or DOD or WH press conference is consumed by the spokesman debunking the idiotic false premises of the questions. Boring and jarring at first, it would quickly humiliate the press and inform the public.

The new "intelligence" report makes the allegation that a Russian agent leaked the information to WikiLeaks. Wouldn't go that far. He did some things profoundly right that I don't think any plausible alternative to him (in either a Bush or a Gore administration) would have done.

My theory was that he learned to dismiss all criticism from generals and admirals as hidebound thinking and/or rice bowl protection. 246 I wonder if the media know just how many people hate them. Do they suspect or are they that successful in suppressing unwelcome knowledge.

Personally, were I to encounter a journalist lying in the gutter wreathed in flames I would not hesitate to piss on him; just on on the parts that were burning.

As the lower tier of Yoopers, living just off the bridge, most residents stick to traditional methods of getting fucked up in the dead of winter.

You will have assigned seats in the press conference.

If you do not mind your manners, you will be injected with a mild sedative, and allowed to stay.

If you become disruptive and/or violent, you will be tased.

You do not need to know the details of how the tasing will be accomplished.

Thanks for your cooperation!
