Saying Grace
Norman Rockwell

One of the many pleasures of Rockwell's work (at least for me) is the humor inherent in everything, even though there is a core of seriousness. This is a perfect example of it.

Apparently he was very particular with his models about the expressions he wanted them to have.

It's theater, and their role is to play the "angry citizens" who are fighting Trump's "unreasonable, heinous" appointments.

The MSM's role is to hype these outbreaks and then explain *why* Trump's picks are so bad. The point is to smear Trump's people as "polarizing" and "controversial," make this the topic on conversation instead of the appointee's qualifications, Trump's plane, etc.

Exit question: When was the last time you heard the MSM describe any Democrat as "polarizing"?

31 This painting is set at a restaurant in Troy, New York, which is near Albany, NY and Rockwell's home in Stockbridge, Mass.

The other famous painting that was set in Troy, NY was the painting of a young soldier returning to his hardscrabble home in the back alley tenement.

Rockwell would use Troy as a his urban studio when he needed to capture a rough-hewn and less-than prosperous Americana.

Refrigerator issues with formaldehyde:
Old style insulation has
formaldehyde as an ingredient. If the frig is old and not working
correctly due to freeze up or rodent infestation, a coil or line may be
getting too hot causing insulation inside frig to break down insulation
thereby releasing the formaldehyde smell.
If it is cold enough where
you live, pull everything out of the frig, put it in totes on the porch,
turn off frig and unplug and allow to completely defrost. Remove back
cover and look for rodent nests inside the frig.

69 Now that we have flushed America's bowels of the previous impacted waste products, I would like to get some actual, factual sunlight on some this truth decay we have experienced for 8 years.

I would like the incoming President to correct the record and disembowel The Great Lie that we have endured for far too long.

Examples:

"We are 20 trillion dollars in debt. This money was largely given away to wealthy political donors to repay favors and spent on job-killing government programs that discouraged employment. In order to fix this problem, we must become a working productive nation again."

"93 million of our fellow Americans are out of the workforce. This means that the actual unemployment numbers are and have been between 15 and 20+ % since 2009. It is not mentally or physically healthy to drift aimlessly. Work is good for you. "

"Solyndra and green energy was a scam that transferred billions. Politicians passed legislation that favored their friends, the 'green energy business' scammers who were paid huge sums of YOUR money and produced not one iota of green energy. Cap and trade is just another political enviro-scam."

"Nakoula Basseley Nakoula had absolutely nothing to do with the Benghazi incident. His arrest was pure political theater. He is hereby pardoned and granted restitution of lost money and legal fees and his film will be featured in the White House theater this month. "

And so on.

This should be where the winning begins.
America can't win without winning back the truth.

He was continually rudely interrupted by Congressmen, who would then make a 5 minute speech about the Importance of the Enivorment or some such crap.

He came away with very little respect for the "The Greatest Legislative Body in the World."

280 Thanks for the Rockwell this morning, CBD. What a wonderful contrast after the hours of BS last night (TFG and the media).

The contrast in the painting is so effective: The small figures of the grandmother (I presume) and child in the big industrial setting visible through the window, the relatively huge size of the working men, what I believe to be a lot of noise in the diner, etc. Then there is a small pocket of calm and, literal, grace amidst all that. The men are in rough, earth tone clothing suitable for heavy work as opposed to the clean, bright figures of the woman and child, placing the focus where Rockwell wants it. The important part is saying grace even in unusual circumstances. Everything else is peripheral, including the reaction of surprise from the men.

As usual, Rockwell uses a degree of incongruity to make an impression on the viewer that segues into deeper levels of meaning and makes me think of stories behind the figures.

Buzzfeed goes public with a "dossier" with information they themselves admit they can't verify, alleging Trump TRIED to get involved in the Moscow real estate scene but failed, and so he got up to some wacky hijinks with hookers. Please note - no evidence of business dealings.

-If this is true, we live in a world where the president elect hates Obama so much he paid hookers to piss on a bed Barack and Michelle Obama slept in.

I don't generally go for realism in paintings. I have no doubt his technical skill was top notch, and that it shows better in person than the reprints and/or magazine covers.

I would never want my opinion to be taken as negatively reflecting on his work, it's more a matter of MY tastes.

I'm currently reading Jay Winik's account of the early Reagan Admin days, and so far it's almost entirely about the foreign policy gurus battling it out with the Soviets... and each other.

There's a reference to a lesson Richard Perle (who is the "hero" of this whole story so far) learned, that as a non-leader, he was at a decided disadvantage in Washington, and more importantly, that his assumptions that leaks always contained at least some semblance to the truth was utterly false and naive.

Leakers often leak lies, bald and bold and with no basis in truth whatsoever.

Why?

I'm not watching this fustercluck of the hearings process, but I'm wondering if some of these clowns have not yet figured out that, even if they think Trump is a goof, many of these folks he's selected for these positions are dead serious, competent professionals. And dismissing him because of his verbal goofballing is to MISS the fact that he's setting up a government that is ready to govern. Like adults. Serious adults.

And that's the one thing I'm expecting more than anything: With serious adults moving into Washington, none of the clowns in the media and elsewhere in loony left land are quite ready for it, or have ANY idea how to respond to it.

Breitbart published the most sickening article about ISIS yesterday. I didn't look at the accompanying video, just reading the text was so incredibly upsetting and seeing a photo of a four year old boy pointing a 1911 at his victim was beyond disturbing.
Apparently, ISIS started the New Year by filming young boys walking around an abandoned amusement park in Syria and executing prisoners, presumably Kurdish fighters who were chained to different rides, etc. The four year old shot five times at his victim. No I don't know how a four year old could shoot five times and not drop the gun or handle the recoil and I'm not going to watch the video to find out. Another older child slit the throat of another prisoner.

ISIS calls them the Cubs of Allah or some such thing.

Sean Spicer hinted a bit at this yesterday. What I hope and pray is that they follow through. He was very careful and guarded with his words, but it seems he wants to include outside sources in the press corp. What I think that means is, instead of just the alphabet leftie networks, you'll see reporters from Breitbart (and ACE!?) in the press room at the whitehouse. In other words, let's face the new reality that nobody watches cable news on tv anymore. Wrest the narrative away from them, they don't deserve the monopoly. They are irrelevant. Let's see Daily Caller, Drudge and Breitbart sitting up front at presidential pressers. Put MSDNC in the back or kick them out altogether.
This is why I hope Trump keeps tweeting. Bypass the news and their twisted partisan filter. They aren't needed anymore. Go direct to the people, or at least include outlets that are not biased.I hope they do this.

Posted by: BurtTC

She was a solid candidate, but being a former Presidential nominee, McCain can raise huge sums of money.

Part of the problem also is "non-establishment" candidates are usually pretty stupid and not organized, so a bunch of them run all thinking they are the chosen one to beat McCain. Dilutes the votes.

He had right around 50% of Republican voters vote against him in the primary.

had Trump gotten involved in the primary, he could have maybe taken him out. I hope Trump endorses Jeff Flake's eventual opponent.

It's the reason why people couldn't vote Trump and actually colluding with trying to get Hillary elected that was maddening. Mostly emotional smokescreens like he insulted Cruz's wife.

Also, I do think voting against a Senator or Congressman is a much different act of "vandalism" than the Presidency.

Your vote is your own, but you'll never convince not voting for Trump over Hilary Clinton was anything else besides a childish temper tantrum.

Had John McCain lost his Senate seat, the Republic could have survived. Not so with President Hillary.

In light of this, I am announcing a Federal investigation into cable and network media to discover the depth and breadth of the phenomenon, so that Congress may make informed decisions about necessary regulatory changes, up to and including the revocation of FCC licenses for serial abusers."

653 Late here, but had something relatively unimportant to say.
Got into a bit of an argument with a very bright but stubbornly ignorant young man last night, about whether Trump was a NAZI.

Well, of course he is just like Hitler, the young man said. Because some of his followers gave him the Nazi salute.

Really, I said. So you have read Mein Kampf and understand what Hitler stood for?

This went on for several minutes, and made me uncomfortable, because he was obstinate in his willful ignorance (otherwise an extremely bright 17 year old). Let it go, was the conclusion.

They want Trump to be Hitler, so they feel BRAVE and JUSTIFIED in resisting him. Numerous prominent Democrats have said this very thing, just to stir up the pot. Aren't we brave for resisting HITLER!!!???

But then, aren't all the Republicans.....Hitler?

Well, we all made silly comments about being rounded up into "the camps" under Obama, and really, nothing much has happened. He is largely incompetent, but not massively sinister and evil.
He is stupid and made a hash of a lot of problems, but then, here we all are, still making comments on this blog and thumbing our noses at what putz he has been.

I spent 30 years doing this stuff, I know several good muldoons (no relation to local hero Muldoon), who work for FBI and CIA. We hunted jihadists in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Moro region of the Southern Philippines. Fusing intelligence to provide Commanders with their daily update briefs, I read thousands of Intelligence Information Reports (IIR) produced from the CI/HUMINT section and conducted cross references with other collected material from other methods. The "SUPER SEKRIT" Memos purportedly investigated and drafted by a career MI-6 operative were garbage.
The format is terrible, the details were curiously lacking any real substance from the highlights and summary.
Classification was inconsistent, appearing on some early ones, not on the later ones.
A civilian firm would have included some type of identifier, a company logo or other defining marking, implying that this was commercially produced.Too much detail on the "outrageous", not enough detail on other substantial claims made.
Lastly, more sources need to be designated to collaborate the accusations, especially if the "operative" conducted interviews with bit players like hotel workers and other low level witnesses, to provide some veracity.
Lastly, I would appreciate some good vibes from the Horde, I applied for a position teaching Marines how to hunt terrorists. I am not a career grunt, nor a graduate of the actual school I would be teaching, but my background is pretty strong. Anyways, I am looking for a little good mojo. My last company did not get the contract renewed with SOCOM, so my military retirement is all that is keeping us afloat, and that is right at the nostril level now. Thanks.

In terms of painting personalities (real people, as said above), I put him on the same tier as Vermeer and Rembrandt.

I would place this as highly likely that somebody close to him does and maybe Trump himself. I know he reads sites like The Last Refuge. A couple of weeks ago Sarah Palin commented in the comments section in response to her response about the Carrier deal. She wrote close to 2000 words. Pretty damn funny.

886 The Government of Ukraine overtly attempted to interfere in the 2016 election... by helping Hillary.

Ukrainian government officials tried to help Hillary Clinton and undermine Trump by publicly questioning his fitness for office. They also disseminated documents implicating a top Trump aide in corruption and suggested they were investigating the matter, only to back away after the election. And they helped Clinton's allies research damaging information on Trump and his advisers, a Politico investigation found.

A Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump, top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia, according to people with direct knowledge of the situation.

My favorite thing is these now popular taxes on 'surgary drinks' that are extortionate on soft drinks but never, ever, ever apply to coffee drinks ... because... fuck you, that's why.

Cook County passed like, 1 penny an ounce tax on soda recently but it doesn't apply to the sugaryest drinks of all: Coffee drinks and juice.

Nope, don't really want to go up there either. I really like my little area in J'ville, NC. There are jobs @ Ft Bragg, but that means regular and ad hoc deployments, and either a 2 hour drive to and from home, or getting an apartment within an hour of Bragg. Like Insomniac, it is a tough road to stubbornly travel, without turning everything upside down.
