9 Sully used training, education and a lot of experience to pull off an incredible landing. There would have been no injuries at all if he could have had the tail low, but the AirBUS flight computer would not let him, so the engines dug in for a very fast stop.

Ace then tried it on a lot of comics, including beloved ones like Calvin and Hobbes, and found that it works a staggering amount of the time.

128 You're at the gate, standing in the jetway, just about to step across into the actual aircraft. The captain for your flight arrives and is hustled past you. She can barely walk under her own power, she reeks of gin, and her eyes are pointing in subtly different directions.

Right in front of you, her legs then buckle abruptly, and she begins to collapse to the floor of the plane like a marionette whose strings have been cut. The flight attendants grab her by both arms, and sling her through the doorway to the flight deck like a sack of potatoes, slamming the door. The engines begin to spool up. Joined a few months ago because of a bunch of breakins in the neighborhood. One topic of discussion was making one lightly traveled intersection into a 4 way stop. City said "no", not enough traffic. What followed was wailing and gnashing of teeth. My response, if you are so worried about the speed of cars on street A, move the stop sign from street A of the intersection to street B. You would have thought that I was Solomon from the comments afterward.

237 "So Like Almost Every 'Journalist' Retweeted This Ego-Plumping Genitals-Pumping Daily Affirmation"

Also from the journamalism front:

Notice also how CBS This Morning, with host Alex Wagner (formerly of MSNBC, who had the Obamas as honored guests at her nuptials) wanted to discuss how Donald Trump is a scary science denier who denies science, especially about global warming, the science of which no rational person could deny, since "97% of scientists agree".

Wagner introduced fellow CBS journo Anthony Mason, and they jointly chose to interview, on this matter, not an actual scientist, but instead, Jeffrey Kluger of _Time_ magazine, yet another journalist.

Wagner studied art history. Mason has a bachelor's in English with a minor in government. Kluger is an attorney with an undergrad degree in poli sci.

So... journalists intently interviewing other journalists, about topics upon which none of them are intellectually prepared to even so much as venture an opinion.

people poast for "handyman to assemble lawn furniture" or "install the screens on the vents in my house"...

fing Betas, one and all.

and then some asshat poasted that "Clinton" (not specified, but likely Bill) would be at his house for a fund raiser. naturally, i flagged it as political content, but nothing was done, so i commented several times, saying that the dead at Benghazi (i named them) would not be able to make it, and another one suggesting that, if it was Bill, that the men attending should keep a close watch on their wives, so they wouldn't be victims of sexual assault...

unexpectedly, people lost their shit. when they claimed i was talking politics, i pointed out that advertising for a political campaign was politics as well, and they should blame the moderator who didn't yank the post immediately.

everything stayed up, but it was also the last thing like that i saw.

I do crap like that (everything from oil changes to computer disaster recovery) for friends all the time. It's not much of an issue, some are professionals who are cooperative on exchange of various services, some just buy my daughter a lot of dinners when she comes over for playdates.

Ever fixed a Dyson vacuum clutch? They're crap, very lightly built, but easy to R&R and the parts are fortunately not expensive.

Got parts coming for two friends' cars...

The true irony of the modern left is that most of the world is what we would call 'extraordinarily racist.' They just do not spend all their time bemoaning how racist they are. So when we talk about how racist we are in our media, and they hear it, they assume we are literally getting together in groups every night to go hunt down mexicans and black people- when we are literally the least racist nation (on the whole) on Earth.

104 "So I ask again: What the fuck good is "moral authority" in any measurable, objective way?" - Nom de Blog

The best way I can explain moral authority is to use an example. Do you read comics? If so, I point to exhibit A or moral authority, Captain America.

Captain America would always do the right thing, and by doing so, he inspired his fellow heroes to follow his example. Even though a mere mortal with powers far surpassed by most other superheroes, he LED the Avengers, which included powerhouses such as Hulk and even gods in Hercules and Thor. They all believed in the goodness of Captain America.

The antithesis to Captain America would be Frank Castle, aka Punisher. He also went after bad guys, just as zealously as other heroes. But he had no moral compunctions, for him, the ends justified the means. And while he struck fear in the thugs of the world, he never shone light in the cities he staked out. Citizens feared him just as much as the criminals he fought.

So in conclusion, moral authority is what Captain America represents. It's something that President Obama is bringing back to our great nation."

393 "England since the conquest hath known some few good monarchs, but groaned beneath a much larger number of bad ones: yet no man in his senses can say that their claim under William the Conqueror is a very honourable one. A French bastard landing with an armed Banditti and establishing himself king of England against the consent of the natives, is in plain terms a very paltry rascally original. It certainly hath no divinity in it. However it is needless to spend much time in exposing the folly of hereditary right; if there are any so weak as to believe it, let them promiscuously worship the Ass and the Lion, and welcome. I shall neither copy their humility, nor disturb their devotion.

... as it opens a door to the FOOLISH, the WICKED, and the IMPROPER, it hath in it the nature of oppression. Men who look upon themselves born to reign, and others to obey, soon grow insolent. Selected from the rest of mankind, their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little opportunity of knowing its true interests, and when they succeed in the government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout the dominions."

True story -

When my sister was a teen, her and her eventual husband were out at the quarry doing their thang, and they found a corpse lying face down in a muddy ditch.
She said he stunk like a week old trashcan.

They called the county Sherrif's office & waited.
When the deputy looked at the body, he just shook his head, then kicked him in the ribs and said "Billy! Get the hell up!"
Billy woke up and started cussing at everybody, then ambled off into the woods...
