4 He continues to annoy us because he (probably correctly) sniffs out the potential for all kinds of plaudits and money from the establishment media for being a BRAVE REPUBLICAN who dares to STAND UP to the ORANGE TYRANT.

That he will vanish into instant obscurity the moment Trump leaves the White House a la Cindy Sheehan post-Bush has not occurred to him. So much for humble Mormons.

Some Mormons like Mitt Romney don't pay any taxes.

Some Mormons like Egg McMuffin have an insatiable craving for approval.

And then other Mormons like to play doctor with little boys, and take bribes, and make shady real estate deals, and give adolescent boys blow jobs, and tell outright lies on the Senate floor, and, oh yeah, get the hell beat out of them by exercise bands.

Let's not forget, this whole gambit was to find a Mormon to sucker in other Mormons and hand the state of Utah to Hillary.

And over 20% of the state of Utah went along with this because, well Mormons stick together no matter what. Even if it's a Hillary stalking horse that couldn't even air a real commercial.

Had the guy not been a Mormon, he would have been an asterisk in Utah.

So you'll excuse me if from here on out I have a bias against Mormons running for office and stick with my "own", after all, that's just what Mormons do.

35 Wow, pretty sad. But behold Teh Stupid of the woman sending the tweet. So vapid she thought voting for this non-entity was a good idea. The country didn't get where it was entirely because of LIVs and NPR-stupid HDV (high-disinformation voters).

And it faces long odds of getting much better. Recall the pussygate-weekend flouncing of high-profile GOP office-holders. The "distancing" from the top of the ticket (how did that work out for the guy in NV?).

You know, I think part of the problem with a protest vote is a fundamental problem with how we view voting: i.e. our vote does not matter and is unimportant. This is a problem with both left and right and why so many people do not bother to vote.

Voting counts. If she had said instead that she truly believed that Trump was a threat to the country, I would respect her more. Instead, she puts it in terms of just being passive and letting someone else decide. People died to give you the vote, lady.

Glenn fucking Beck and Eggmcmuffin, I believe, concocted a scheme/hoax that "some people" were insinuating Evan McMuffin was a homosexual.

And that was just awful. Just terrible. Glenn Beck jumped on his high horse and made sure everyone knew it was just awful and a really really big deal that someone on the internet insinuated, coyly, that Evan was a pickle smoocher.

But in reality, it was just a Hoax to use an excuse to shill for Evan McMuffin on his radio show for 2 hours a day. And to browbeat anyone who was considering to vote for Trump, which would put those people in the same camp as people who go around accusing homosexuals of being homosexual.

And that's..you know...just awful.

81 Sebastian I am baffled with this framing of things as "apologies" and the like.

Nobody needs to apologize for their vote. But, as with anything else, they can expect that rational people will evaluate their intelligence and sense based on such things.

As for Romney, he disgraced himself enough this cycle, no need to reach back four years.

But take heart - odds are still very high that the country will continue stumbling downward, partly thanks to the large segments of the GOP base that are just about as clueless as their Dem counterparts, and ensure that the tiny, mediocre people who lead the party will continue to do so.

153 McMullin shows up in an interesting story over at The Conservative Treehouse.

Absolutely Stunning - Leaked Audio of Secretary Kerry Reveals President Obama Intentionally Allowed Rise of ISIS...
Long before anyone heard about Evan McMullin running for President, there he is paling around with #NeverTrump Adam Kinzinger in Turkey chatting with the Muslim Brotherhood affiliates (guise SETF) who are essentially the political arm of ISIS under a differing name.

The declared purpose of the meeting was to discuss who and how to arm the entities within Syria. However, just like in 2012/2013 these same Brotherhood voices in 2014 are simply trying to present themselves as one thing, only to gain the goal of another. That's ultimately the story behind the arms deals within The Benghazi Brief. That's the lesson that should have been learned if the truth contained within the brief were ever to have larger public interest.

171 Speaking of Egg McMuffins, Chick-Fil-A is awesome. The store here sent a flyer last month with three coupons: for January, free grilled chicken sandwich or nuggest; for next month, a free one of their various chicken and egg breakfast muffins; and for March a spicy chicken filet sandwich.

I don't have to buy anything else (though I will buy a drink) --total freebies.

Looking forward to trying the muffin next month.

To be fair, the GOP really, really, really tried to make that happen, but the voters were having none of it. For once, the voters said "up yours" to the slick packaging, media narrative, and system. Only happened once before in my life, in 1980.

He is of course worthless, but he did have an effect and probably cost Trump at least one state, Minnesota.

Had 1% more Republicans signed on with him in a few key states (so they could brag to their friends that they were too sophisticated to vote Trump) Trump would have lost to Hillary.

Also, like 22% of Utah voted for this guy. Trump was luck to carry even deep red Utah losing that many votes

For myself, I was never an enthusiastic Trump guy- he was just better than the alternative. So far, what he is saying is good, but I am still waiting to see what he DOES.

Actions mean more than words to reveal intentions. That goes for Trump or people who did or did not vote for him.

180 153 McMullin shows up in an interesting story over at The Conservative Treehouse.

All people are pride monsters. I am not saying you are completely wrong about the motivations for some, but I think pride is the case for most of them.

The internet is a wonderful tool, but it also has a tendency to get people to type things in excess of what they meant originally. Coming back and saying publicly "I was wrong" would be a pretty bitter pill. Combine that with them knowing that if they come back they will be pilloried by many commentors about what they said while leaving (apology or no), and I can completely understand not coming back. Who would want to walk back into that? Commenting online should not be running the gauntlet.

if it did "help" Trump, he's not going to have much of it in 2020.

210 Here's a little twist I heard about a few weeks ago.

About three years back or so, various parties vied for ownership of the Buffalo Bills after the franchise's only owner in its history passed away. Some group of investors including Jon Bon Jovi made a play, and the team was eventually sold to the owner off the Buffalo Sabres. There was also a group headed by Trump. Around Election Day Trump remarked in an interview that if he had succeeded in buying the Bills, he would not have run for President.

At the time that story was going on about selling the Bills, I had no idea that it would directly affect American history.

Posted by: Hairyback Guy at January 02, 2017 05:56 PM (5VlCp)

221 Trump won for many reasons, as any winner always does. He got the nomination for largely the same reasons he won (i.e., the reason he stomped in OH and flipped WI MI PA) - he addressed issues the GOP generally doesn't (credibly), or on which the Dems have toxic positions.

AND because his opponent was absurdly unfit, repugnant, unlikeable, and tainted.

Cruz and Trump dominated the primaries. That was a hopeful sign in itself ("outsiders", though in different ways).

Hillary vs. any other GOP candidate - who didn't have a serious position on mass illegal migration, as most don't/didn't - is a toss-up at best. Trade "populism" clearly played a part too, esp. in his key RustBelt wins.

But pretending Trump didn't win in large part due to actual positions on big issues would mean he could (politically) survive whiffing or wimping out on those key issues in his first year in office. Which he couldn't.
