Schlichter really thinks "the Russians" did anything, and that whatever they did "hurt Hillary"?
Yeah yeah, tweet, humor, etc etc. But still a good example of accepting a totally false framework and arguing within it. Forget the Russian part. Where is there any evidence that any of the info - which was buried by the press - had any effect on the election? Rank and file Democrats apparently realized their party had been 'hacked' by crooks, swindlers, cattle rustlers, and other vermin. All because of the pilfered emails.
Strange the Democrat leaders who praised the likes of Bradley Manning are now screeching. Well it is really simple to understand - Manning hurt the interests of the United States. These emails hurt them, so it is personal. So they want to shoot the messenger which happens to be a nuclear armed Russia that is not afraid to flex its muscles. I think the Democrats suffer badly from being in echo chambers. Badly. they cluster in areas where 90% of the people don't just agree with them, but go a step further in every discussion. "Yeah, you're right Bob, Trump is a bad person, but I'd say he's Hitler!"
They all voted for Hillary in NYC, Chicago, DC, and California. Everyone they know voted for her. Its inconceivable to them that she could have lost, it had to be some aberration, not infuriated voters who had enough of their crap. They're good people -- their associates say it all the time -- and clearly those who disagree are bad people -- associates again -- so this cannot be the wrong path to take. Not 1 in 100 Beltway dipshits even know what was in the "leaks". In the electorate? Probably not 1 in 50,000 can even identify the subject of the most outrageous leaks.
Yet things that nobody read and that nobody can even identify affected their voting behavior? Of course in a country as dumbed down as the US such idiocy can be uttered in public and not end someone's credibility or career. Posted by: rhomboid at January 02, 2017 01:20 PM (QDnY+) 25

Is that the chip-chip-chipping away of civility that the last 8 years brought on? He's got everything but a "but mostly..." in there. And yeah I agree, there's no reason to blame "The Russians." I mean it could have been "Russian," as in a teenage kid hacking databases as a hobby, trying to find a live credit card, or Russian-origin software patches that leave a trace (so if it was California-based software, we'd be down with it right?), but this venture just would not require the kind of online horsepower that your actual Kremlin-basement crew would bring. What short memories we have.
Wikileaks was supposed to be the October surprise. Assange led everyone to think that he had a bombshell that would put Hillary in jail. All we got were things that shed a little light on the DNC and Hillary's inner circle. (We're still waiting on Hillary's 33,000 deleted e-mails). The real October surprise was Trump's Pussygate. This was a leak of a private conversation, and it came from a MSM source, followed up by an orchestrated MSM campaign of ladies who cried wolf. Hillary's strategy was to get Republicans to turn on Trump because of this and then drive him from the race in October. Recall that some Republicans did turn. All Hillary had to then do was step over Trump's smoldering corpse and walk into the White House. We'd never see a Nationalist Populist getting the time of day in the R party ever again. Limbaugh contradicting himself but most importantly mis-stating the case with border security.
Securing the border (physically) is the easiest, best-return-on-investment, cheapest step in restoring rule of law in immigration - with yuuuuge collateral benefits in terms of security, drugs, etc. The enduring physical manifestation of political will could also be very valuable as future elections go less well. The inertia of a physically secured southern border could be a critical national asset in the future. Physical border security is an integral part of any intelligent migration and security policy, and barriers are the cheapest most important component thereof. Duh. Oh, right. There isn't a hint of any of this. Posted by: rhomboid at January 02, 2017 01:14 PM (QDnY+) Forget the Russian part completely. I have yet to see ANY evidence that they hacked ANYTHING as relates to the election, including the DNC. Indeed, when you cut through all the leftie fake news BS, what are you left with? Someone, somehow, got into John Podesta's (and ONLY his) Gmail account, which contained all those incriminating emails that made the Dims look bad (rigged primary, debate questions being given in advance to the PIAPS, etc). But that is NOT a "hack" of the election. That was a "hack", phishing attack, whatever, of ONE guy's email account. And Assange over at Wikileaks still swears and be damned that the Russians had nothing to do with their being provided with Podesta's emails. So until such time as someone comes up with some actual hard data showing that the Russians hacked anything shows up, and so far it has not, then it is just more leftie fake news and nothing more. FTSB - Obama could still force Merrick Garland onto court during 'intersession recess'
William G. Ross, a law professor at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, said Mr. Obama would have the power to elevate Judge Garland. But he said it would be "politically unwise and damaging to the prestige of the court." "It would exacerbate acute political tensions that have roiled the transition process and promise turbulence from the very start of the Trump administration, and it would contribute to the growing public perception that the court is unduly political," Mr. Ross said. There was no structural, org chart problem that caused 9/11 to be possible, and therefore no structural reform was needed. Bush really f**ked up by letting those turds push him around and help create some of the worst government monstrosities this nation has ever seen. People were laughing every time the "9/11 commission" held a hearing and pretended that they knew anything about anything ... except for Jamie Gorelick, of course, who knew lots about stuffing up intel channels so that they don't work, at all. The 9/11 commission was just one more of Bush's many fatal flaws - not just letting such a farce be put together like that but then acting on their farcical recommendations. The TSA, alone, is enough of an abomination to have everyone involved with it stripped of their citizenship, deported and their names stricken from all records. Every branch of the military having its own intelligence agency I'm not real strong on, but there's so many that I don't understand the need for. The whole point of the demand for the Owellian-named DHS was to clean all this up and create a central clearing house. What they should have done is streamline and focus, eliminating duplication and pointless agencies. But that would mean smaller, and feds don't do smaller. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at January 02, 2017 01:44 PM (39g3+) There is very little to the individual military branch "intelligence agencies", it is very little actual intelligence work, much more strategic direction, resourcing and training. The products they do produce are as directed by the individual service chief and they can respond to individual unit requests for information. "The 9/11 commission was just one more of Bush's many fatal flaws"
Shenon's book on the Commission and its work lays out that, among other things, at the literal eleventh hour, after they had written the entire damn report, and it was off to the Government Printing Office, some staffers had gone over to the NSA archives and found a wealth of substantive new evidentiary material, the existence of which had never even been disclosed to the members of the Commission as they deliberated. Whoops! Too bad, so sad. Just no time to fit all that in. The public would have been better served by subcontracting the job out to Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey. We could have had the entire circus instead of just the clown car. Posted by: torquewrench at January 02, 2017 02:03 PM (noWW6) 171
Why we needed the DHS, we were told:
In August 2001, the CIA couldn't tell the FBI that this guy bin Laden was planning a domestic attack, else they'd be committing a felony, thank you Clintonista Jamie Gorelick, peace be unto her. So they told Bush in August 2001 that bin Laden was planning a domestic attack in the hope that a light bulb would go off so that he'd tell the FBI. He didn't. (I'm not blaming Bush for 9/11, bu he whiffed). Had the FBI looked internally, they had reports of strange guys paying to learn to fly big jets who didn't care about how to land. It could have played differently. So we got the DHS to make agencies co-ordinate better. Which is why agencies like the FBI have had such a great record post 9/11 Posted by: Ignoramus at January 02, 2017 02:03 PM (SIY7D) 172

A recently retired Navy officer friend of mine told me about the global warming propaganda classes they were forced to attend. Of course, there was no discussion as to whether the boogeyman was real. The focus was on 1) greener weapons and 2) how they were going to evacuate people from flooded costal cities. The good news is that none of the propagandees seemed to take it seriously. They were joking that it was a shame that the evacuation boats could hold only ten people but if they built them any bigger they couldn't use solar power.

No one at Langley would have been committing any felonies if they had said to Bush, right out of the gate, pardon us, sir, but your predecessor saddled us with restrictions that are hampering our ability to interoperate effectively with other agencies, and we're asking you to lift those, if you wouldn't mind terribly. As near as I've been able to ascertain, no one at the CIA (then run by career Democratic apparatchik George Tenet) ever said any such thing. Jeebus, Bush didn't "whiff" on some intel that would have prevented 9/11, and DHS wasn't needed to make agencies "coordinate" better. The PDB "warning" was the most general, vague formulation possible (for a reason - that's all the actual intel supported).
Bush more than whiffed on keeping Tenet, failing to turn the entire intel community upside down to get prison time for those committing felonies in revealing the two key surveillance programs, and going along with DHS and DNI. AND ..... failing to educate the public and take real action when the intel community beclowned itself with their Iranian nuke NIE. Posted by: rhomboid at January 02, 2017 02:12 PM (QDnY+) 198

My pick for most challenging will be over Trump's pick of Tom Price to head HHS. They're ginning up charges that he traded health care stocks while he was a Congressman proposing regulation. We'll also get Sandra Fluke redux. Should we mandate that health care plans pay for birth control pills? (If so, why don't I get free Viagra?) It goes to the heart of whether insurance has to cover routine costs. Most entertaining will be the CEO of Carl Jr / Hardee's because of his ads featuring the likes of Kate Upton, Charlotte McKinney, and Emily Blurred Lines Brunette suggestively scarfing hamburgers and hot dogs. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at January 02, 2017 02:22 PM (39g3+) ==================== I don't know how a delayed repeal would operate, but I think there's an element that people often forget: The insurance industry gets the memo that ACA is going away. Congress implements repeal, delays it for 2-3 years, but (and this is pure speculation on my part) allows for the insurance industry to offer plans that meet previously okay standards but not the ACA standards. The insurance industry, knowing that they can make money on this, begin to build risk pools outside of the ACA exchanges, making the individual market robust again relatively soon, lessening the dangers of repeal as well as the need for some unified replacement plan. NGU, a comment section is no place to do this taffy yank in detail, but no, it is not that complicated to repeal Fredocare.
The insurance industry - disastrously over- and mis-regulated at the state level, already part of a frankenstein "market" with more non-market than market forces at work due to state/fed involvement over the last 4 decades, and of course guilty of massive rent-seeking and cartel behavior in many states - provided many options prior to Jan. 1 2014. There's nothing - operationally, actuarially, etc - they can't dust off and resume doing. It's only been two full years. But I'm just talking about the hardest hit sector - the individual market (which has been destroyed). Yes yes there are lots of other parts of the elephant, but some of them have still not even been implemented, thanks to "waivers" etc. Getting back to the status quo ante Jan. 2014 is not the least bit difficult. And as TheJamesMadison suggested above, there are approaches that could quickly restore sanity (well, at least a vastly superior situation) in the individual market while cushioning the "blow" to the artificial subsidized market (BTW, I'd guess there are 5 times as many people devastated or seriously financially injured in the individual market as there are beneficiaries of the welfare of O-care subsidized plans). Ignoramus those prosecutors you mention would be US attorneys, to be appointed/re-appointed by Trump. So there's a chance they would take the rule of law seriously. A chance.
And I'm not sure accessory to violent crimes would be the easiest or best approach. I think there are other ways. I alluded to this in another comment this morning. Voiding local/state laws, on the basis of federal pre-emption (as in the AZ case a few years back) would seem like a strong judicial approach to simply vacate the laws passed in sanctuary entities. There may also be some potential in writs of mandamus, or other ways to judicially compel compliance on the state/local level. Personally (and based on limited understanding), I'd like to see a two-part pincer attack: defunding of fed $, and full-blown DoJ assault along the lines outlined above. I think this could change the national picture almost overnight. Posted by: rhomboid at January 02, 2017 02:45 PM (QDnY+) 310

As I've whine here many times, Ignoramus, I remain utterly baffled by the "politics" of O-care.
Leaving aside Medicaid expansions, there have been few beneficiaries of O-care (subsidized plans). Certainly compared to those affected - catastrophically, or seriously - by the destruction of the individual market. My fault for not looking into it. I recall there were early, limited reports of estimates that up to 800K people in New Jersey, and well over a 1M in CA, would be losing their individual plans (meaning they could still buy them - but at 3X to 5X the previous cost). Beyond that, I saw nothing. Another screaming example of a country off the rails because 1) no real press 2) a dumbed-down electorate 3) lazy and corrupted institutions and "citizens" (if they're not devastated, they don't care about anything that happens). As I said, others with more knowledge will have to chime in on feasibility of going after sanctuary elected officials for accessory charges. Might be doable.
But I don't think there's any need to choose. Pursue every one of the obvious routes of attack. And Ignoramus I think the Steinle case offers a perspective that contradicts your premise. The stunning reality is that this case did *not* become a cause celebre, beyond those who already understood the problem. The Steinle case illustrated just how far gone the country is. It should have been a firestorm raging to this day. YET ..... there is still no doubt that there is solid majority support for common sense return to rule of law on immigration. Trump's election in significant part confirmed this. Nothing wrong with getting some scalps, per your suggestion, but I think all serious actions Trump takes will reinforce the existing support for fixing this disastrous situation. Alinksy you magnificent bastard! I read your book. RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. ...and yes, I've "come-around" to Trump. For those of you who still want to brow-beat me over my conservative adherence to Cruz?...
-I Was Wrong. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The fundamental difference between us and the people on the left is that they are never wrong - no matter what. "To err is human" They're some sort of automatons - they don't qualify as human - simply because they are never wrong. If I had a dollar for every time in my life that I have been wrong - I would be a very wealthy man. Posted by: An Observation at January 02, 2017 03:30 PM (ITJ2R) 364

It helps a lot that he won, I have to admit. If you believed the polling, things weren't looking so hot for him, so I can't really blame the Trump-skeptics too much. I'm just glad we can all be happy with our new President-elect. As for the #NeverTrump Republicans, especially the ones still speaking out against Trump, now that's a different story. And if your computer is just suddenly restarting frequently, I'm guessing the issue is with the power supply. The stock power supplies in off-the-shelf desktops are of poor quality, and just strong enough to power the base computer. They tend to die within a few years.
