New Year's Evening Open Thread

TFG must have been drinking last night. Delusional tweets tweeted by Obama.

'It’s been the privilege of my life to serve as your President. I look forward to standing with you as a citizen. Happy New Year everybody,' Obama wrote in the last tweet of the series.

Turkish police still searching for gunman who slaughtered 39. Nearly 70 wounded.

Happy New Year was not shouted by gunman. You'll probably nail it on your first guess.

Not to be outdone in Nigeria, The religion of pieces peace strikes again.

Happy New Year 2017

10 Rawa Mansour, an Israeli Arab who was wounded in Saturday nights terrorist attack at a nightclub in Istanbul, landed in Israel on Sunday evening.

Mansour, who suffered moderate injuries in the attack, was transferred upon her arrival by a Magen David Adom ambulance from the Ben Gurion Airport to the Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba.

39 people were killed in Saturday nights attack, including Mansours friend, Lian Zaher Nassar, a 19-year old resident of the Israeli Arab town of Tira.

31 Let me congratulate people who never yielded and called Obama and everybody on both sides of the aisle liars And criminals for allowing and enabling the fraud Obama to ever take office and call him legitimate. The media is complicit as well and cititzens.

100% truth Obama and others have committed identity theft. 2 experts (1 from Italy and 1 here) individually confirmed his birth certifate, that Trump forced him to post in 2011, is a forgery with 9 different points. This is not going away. The media has blacked out the story for a reason. And this is why our lying criminal government is trying to start a war with Russia. (Along with the Wiki leaks emails and other crimes exposed).

People who mocked you as a conspiracy theorist have zero credibility and know nothing and only seek to enable the crimes against our country and citizens to continue.

People are going to jail or will be fleeing the country.

Happy New Years and God Bless

97 Yeah, they found some malware on a laptop at some Vermont power company. It had nothing to do with the control systems. That turned into "Russia hacked the US power grid!!!!11!!".

I'm getting more and more dubious of all this. Everything I've read by anyone who knows the remotest fuck about this says the "report" they've put out is a bunch of hyped bullshit and doesn't even include useful information to defend against the actual malware that was involved.
--

They report "Russia Hacked the Power Grid! ELEVENTY!!!"

They scream it from the rooftops.

Then, a hours/days later, the story is proven false.

THAT is never reported.

Which is fine, when you don't rely on the MSM. But there are those that do, and they will never know the truth.

We get the 3/4 length. I just checked and they're $15.86 at Amazon right now. Might be worth trying.

Offered without comment from the Daily Mail story on Mariah Carey at Times Square last night --

Producers of the show were so concerned she might be late, that they hired an entire crew to ensure the legendary diva made it to the ball on time.

The panic was sparked when producers asked what time she would arrive. According to the New York Post, Carey's people replied, 'What time exactly does the ball drop?'

All across Washington DC, staffers, interns, lobbyists and Deputy Assistant Secretaries are facing a horrible future.

Their masters repudiated by the electorate, these poor low-level creatures will soon have to return to derision and unemployment in forbidding places like Possum Snot, Kallikak, Mushrat Dell and Kidneystone Pass they once escaped for the Ivy League.

But you can save them. For a small monthly contribution of just $13,876,325, these unfortunates can receive the lobster, expensive wine and leather chairs they need to feel superior to you peons.

Time is short. Their plight is desperate. Act today. You teabagging bastards.

The religious thread would be weekly and I'm sure some of the other folks here would like to chip in, too. I envision a Jewish reading, a Christian reading, and an emphasis on prayer requests.

This is the one I bought and I doubt I will ever have an occasion to wear it again. We just don't do dress up around here very much.

They can be a big lovable teddy. But they have a fighting mode they can go into, and a locking jaw, and you won't recognize Paddington when he goes into that mode. Maybe some dogs go through their whole lives without being triggered into that mode, I don't know.

Savvy pitbull owners often carry a sort of stick. It's used to unlock the jaw from whatever chihuahua or toddler the dog has locked onto.

Went to a funeral yesterday and dug out the charcoal grey suit, white shirt, black tie and black topcoat and Florsheims; my GF went with black slacks, heels, dark and silver top, a long coat and a white fuzzy hat and a red scarf.

We need to get a reason to dress up again other than a funeral because we got some looks, and if I go to more funerals I need to get me that Boralino hat. It is hard to express condolences without having a hat to take off and hold respectfully.

Ha! Ya, I know. It's the rich people who get the cure. Serfs like me will be starving when McDonald's cost 10,000 new bucks and is served up by robots.

516 My husband and I got dressed up in what we'd planned to wear to the wedding and looked super dapper in or living room on NYE. Unfortunately the only picture taken was snapped by my 8 year old and it's one of those awkward bending over and eating pictures that children just love to take.

As soon as matt damon, who makes me sick, said he needs to "science the fuck out of it" I had enough.

The entire movie was a load of BULLSHIT.

It wasn't just that. It was poorly executed. It looks pretty and is quite well shot etc, but, instead of a steak, you get cotton candy. It was very poorly cast. Sean Bean did his best with little to work with, most of the rest just didn't convince in their roles. Most importantly, the story failed to produce any tension and zero suspense. It was just Matt Damon's witty quips and fixing shit. No sense of real danger... the only time the movie conveyed anything little it was when Damon was holding his breath while listening to the plastic habitat fix strain in the wind. That was good. But, that was it.

Do what I did in a similar situation:

Take that extra pair of light-weight headphones that you never use and pry the speakers out - dispose of the head piece, just keep the ear pieces connected to the wire.

Take a half-gallon milk jug, plastic cat-food bottle, or other thin walled plastic jug with flattish sides, and cut two holes just large enough to put the ear pieces, but not so large they will fall through

Dangle the earpieces on the cable up through the mouth of the jug and tease the earpieces through the holes you cut. Then tape them in place with whatever tape you happen to have.

Plug the earphones into the output jack of your laptop. Ta-dah!

You could also use one of those Hefty plastic sandwich boxes or a solo cup

531 JuJuBee, did your mom do the multi course starter, entree, salad dessert thing? I've been told and read that the French believe that having 4 or 5 small courses is better and healthier than having, say, a huge plate of spaghetti or meat loaf or something, but in reality, do they really fuss with all those courses every night? It was different when moms didn't work outside the home but I can't imagine doing that for a family today every evening - and I like to cook...
Posted by: Donna&&&&V.(brandishing ampersands) at January 01, 2017 08:46 PM (P8951)

My goodness no, not every night. My Dad was a Brooklyn guy, meat-and-potatoes, so she learned to make all his favorites from his mother. But he did love wine and stinky cheeses, including the one my sister & I called camelbear cheese. My mom did have a salad every night, and sometimes we had it after the entree, but weeknights were quick meals because she worked. Weekends were roast beef or steak, with two or three veg. When the French relatives and friends visited, my Mom went all French all the time, big lunches with wine, lots of courses for lunch and dinner, and yes, they eat really tiny portions which is why they're so skinny. Christmas meant pork rillettes, that sort of thing.

534 491 Passengers is a great movie.

it's the mirror universe red dwarf. instead kf staying in stasis while everyone dies, lister is awoken early and everyone is still alive. instead of just being good if you need to grit the drive, lister gets kochanski. instead of being a holographic smeghead, rimmer is a kindly robot bartender. holly never lost his mind, so never decides to treat lister as if he's important.
