Obama's Petulance And Ignorance Of Geopolitics HAs Forced Israel To Be More Aggressive

UN resolutions.jpg

Obama's ham-handed but partly successful attempt at isolating his least favorite country (filled with yucky Jooos!) may very well push Israel to be more proactive militarily and more belligerent diplomatically. It didn't take long for Obama to demonstrate his lack of geopolitical chops, but as Brett Stephens in The Wall Street Journal says, this may be the worst yet.

Here are Netanyahu's comments regarding Israel's response to the UN resolution.

I read in several newspapers this morning that they are complaining about my vigorous stand against the countries that voted against us at the UN. Israel is a country with national pride and we do not turn the other cheek. This is a responsible, measured and vigorous response, the natural response of a healthy people that is making it clear to the nations of the world that what was done at the UN is unacceptable to us.

And here is the Israeli Embassador to the United States, Ron Derner....Israeli envoy: Obama gave Palestinians ammunition for diplomatic war on Israel

"We can't just meet with visiting dignitaries as if nothing has happened, this a serious effort against Israel, it's an anti-Israel resolution," he charged, pointed to Hamas's praising of the resolution as proof. "Israel's enemies are celebrating this resolution, that tells you all you need to know."

Israel is willing to accept low-level terrorism as the price it pays for living in a nasty part of town. That is not to say that does not fight it forcefully, but there are additional, deeply unpopular steps it could take against the Palestinians, but chooses not to in the interest of political and diplomatic calm.

But throwing Israel to the wolves of the United Nations removes that pressure to conform to world opinion. If the World announces via its voices in Turtle Bay that Israel is not a legitimate state, then why should Israel play nice?

And passing a resolution that explicitly states that Israel's most holy site, and the core of its society for 3,000 years is actually not part of Israel is a powerful message that Israel does not have to play by the rules....

I realize he was probably using this idiomatically, not biblically, but just to be pedantic, I think that the biblical quote from Matthew is inapplicable to this context. That occurs only in reference to forgiving someone who has personally wronged you. It doesn't translate to a level where a government is tasked with insuring the wellbeing of its citizens.

And ethics can get complicated. Christ says love your enemy, but he (and the Pentateuch) also says love your neighbor. What if your enemy is evil, and is threatening your countrymen (your neighbor)? My guess is that your first duty is to protect your neighbor, and that this doesn't violate "love your enemy".

Assuming that traditional Stand-Down protocol is followed, as much as 30% of her crew could be on New Years leave as we speak.

And her Carrier Air Wings would be at the same level of manning s well.

They would be recovering aircraft, and Cod'ing returning crew members out to her for days as they go from minimum manning to full underway manning.

It's doable.
But it's not exactly accurate for people tom assume that she simply shits and gets from the moment she gets orders to get underway.

Posted by: rickl at December 31, 2016 10:46 AM (sdi6R)

Russia only votes against Israeli interests in the UN. Israel endeavors to maintain open line of communications with Russia and the Russian Military in the Middle East in particular to prevent any unfortunate mistaken or semi-mistaken confrontations. The "Russians" in Israel are mostly to the right of center and have NO lover for Mother Russia, at least not for it's politics

I don't think that supposed "self-hating Jews" or "self-hating whites" actually exist.

I think they are just adopting a posture that allows them to think of themselves as virtuous, without having to sacrifice anything. What they do may harm *other* Jews and *other* whites, but the point is that they are so narcissistic that their own situation is all that matters to them.

Not to any human institution. Many atheists find my lack of faith in humans disturbing and use the concept of dual loyalty to "shame" me into doing the acceptable thing and saying "Nah I love my country you don't understand". It is to them that my comment is directed. I will never follow an edict that goes against my relationship with God and although right at this moment the country I live in respects that, I think we can all understand that that freedom is not an absolute and today does not predict tomorrow.

No criticism intended. I am just continually amazed at how successfully the Arab disinformation campaign as leveraged the difficulty most Americans have of the security situation.

The premise is always that the Israelis must do x or must not do y to achieve peace. There is never any expectation that the Arabs cease their incitement and support of Jew-hatred and violence. The clear unwillingness to address this root cause, which relies entirely on Arab action dooms all hope of a lasting peace. So wake me when the Security Council passes a resolution on that.

53 days in the Adriatic Sea aboard the USS Saipan (LHA-2) long may the coral grow upon her. We were the first Marine Expeditionary Unit/Amphibious Ready Group on station after Clinton took office in 1993. Teddy Roosevelt was in the Persian Gulf as was the 24th MEU on the Wasp Amphib Ready Group. For all that time, we were in the "9 day window" to go ashore, but the Serbs and Bosniacs could not come to resolution of their brutal combat during our float. After that we stayed in the Eastern Med watching Bosnia and Algeria. Fine times indeed.

160 lightning, that remark about dual loyalty and Evangelical Christians was made by an anti-Semitic troll, not someone who is a regular here.

Many of us here are Christians or Jews who put God first, as He should be. Those of us here who are not believers are very supportive of religion and will defend our rights as well as anyone. That's one of the things I love about this place. We are all different, but we all appreciate the Judeo-Christian foundation of our country.

So I don't think anyone who is a regular here would ever say that those of us who believe in God have dual loyalties. That person was just trying to get under our skin. Ignore him.

183 CBD, when the first move prescribed for you is to surrender, you probably shouldn't continue playing.

I doubt somehow that the Israelis believe in promises of peace and protection

There are a lot of governments that are willing to throw in the towel and walk away or buy peace. Santos in Colombia, over the rejection of the nationwide plebiscite, has concluded the first part of its peace deal with the FARC, and in exchange will tax Colombian citizens to subsidize the guerillas to the tune of around $150 a month for not being terrorists any more. The FARC leaders want the right to be in government too. The question of why Colombia should subsidize a guerrilla force now that Venezuela is broke, or why FARC should get the dignity that Pablo Escobar was denied is not addressed.
Santos, however, got his Nobel.

(I think the peace prize is now given only for surrendering to communists and marxists)

Three carriers are 'Surge' ready. Which probably means they'll have to be pushed out to sea by hand.

Two carriers are in a post deployment phase which means in the yard for routine stuff.

And three are in maintenance which means their guts are ripped out and it will be a couple years before they are ready for deployment again.

232 Tim @ 193 - As explained by Mel Brooks, "Well, we know who the mother is." It was a discussion type show where he and other Jewish comedians (Robert Klein, Carl Reiner, etc.) talked about being Jewish in America. Very funny.

233 "Part Jewish" a social construct, but, now and again, strenuously enforced.

It was still commonly accepted in the early 70's that Israel was a fundamentally Socialist country, well-populated with good soviet types, and eventually would help show the world how real government was supposed to work. Therefore a lot of my congenitally-leftist acquaintances of the time affected a certain level of Hebraity, or at least Israel-ish-ness. Lots of Star of David pendants, a kibbutz summer here or there. Part of The Cause.

About that time, I resolved that Israel wasn't going to get a religious vote from me. No sir, I wasn't going to blindly endorse whatever they did just because their residents may or may not be God's Chosen. I was going to judge, for my own self, their actions as a nation by the same standard I'd use to judge any other nation's actions.

And they must have heard about that, because they sure started acting real good right about that time. It was then that I really started liking them. I'm still just judgemental as hell, and they haven't let me down yet.

All those old friends I used to have, well they've moved on.

No CVNs at sea has strategic implications.

As CVNs are in International waters and are sovereign US territory, the Air Wing is unrestricted in it's actions.

Land based air, of which we have a bit, is limited in actions by the host country. That's why we can not launch from RAFO Thumrait, Oman against Iran. Or use Incirlik Air Base to against Erdogan' s wishes.

Launching B-2s from Missouri is a time-waster, if you need an immediate strike. And no air cover is possible from a long way off.

Congress and the Prezzy have pretty much broken the Fleet.

They cut its numbers... yet did not cut deployments... and have run the fleet into the ground.

It takes time after a deployment to fix your ship, to give your crew a rest, and then train up for the next deployment....

Just like the Army, with Men who have had WAY too many deployments to shit zones... for adequate training and preparation time..

Obama has taken the edge off of, if not seriously damaged, our ability to wage war.

264 There's a bunch of overlap going on in bowl game names, too. Originally, back when we made stuff in this country and cities were proud, you'd have a whole regional industry represented by a bowl game. Cotton, Orange. It wasn't the Fruit of The Loom Bowl or the Tropicana Bowl. Now you have those old names, with a sponsor in front. Sounds so cheap, if you're old.

Evansville Indiana used to be the refrigeration capital. They had a bowl game there for several years called the Refrigerator Bowl. Makes you wonder what Kohler, Wisconsin could have come up with (actually I think Clorox holds a trademark on the name now...)

I don't mean to bust in on a dialogue, but that reminded me of something I heard a while back from (atheist) former Christian theologian Robert Price. That the Second Temple built by Herod did not conform to the dimensions laid out in Ezekiel, which caused some Rabbinic scholars to doubt the canonicity of Ezekiel. At the very least, that shows they had the same notions of "prophet" that we have, ie. that they would foretell what was to come.

Seems to me that the UN isn't useful for making deals. It's sucking our money away, and using their forces to rape women and children in war zones. To me, it just seems to be a political organization used to bully those they don't like.

We are stuck in the concept of "must go to the UN."

Why?

Stop our funding.

Let them move their hq somewhere nice, like Saudi Arabia. Or Iran.

Because, awesome. You could probably get millennials to volunteer!

OK I can see the point of a Tom Swift electric catapult on a turbine ship. There's no steam duh, and STOL is easier than VTOL. Any airplane is better than no airplane. Except for the ducks they flew off battleships.

But that EMP argument is a strong one. Especially considering, a carrier is a damned inviting target these days anyway. There may be a future for steam. Are there satellites that can focus on a catapult's steam shot? Don't think so.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I got to this point and saw that a storm was brewing. I don't believe AmericaFirst said anything in the least trollish or un-American. If so, I too am a troll and un-American.

As an evangelical Christian, I am called to obey the law, respect those in governmental authority over me, and to be a good citizen of the country in which I reside. But the President is not my King. The Constitution, as wonderful as it is, is not Holy Scripture. I live in America, I am an American, I love America. But I have a dual citizenship. In earthly terms, I am subject to American civil law. In eternal terms, I am a citizen of the Kingdom of God, and am subject to God's law. I may live under Caeser, but God is my King. If the two conflict with each other, I must choose the side of God.

I do not see what is controversial about that.
