23 The reactions to Castro's long-overdue and far too peaceful death do remind us of the intellectual and moral imbecility of so many among us.

It's the main reason for my, not "pessimism" per se, but lack of optimism.

It's especially nauseating in cases like this, where some despicable blood-soaked tyrant is praised - inexplicably, as though people were mourning the passing of some SS camp commandant or NKVD executioner.

But it's really the same story on every single issue down the list. Ignorance, false information, and a stunning moral imbecility that demonizes the good or sensible and elevates the vile. Don't know how we even made it this far, looking at half of the people around us.

27 Socialism has nothing to do with equality or class parity. That's just what they tell the useful idiots to get them to go along. The point of socialism is to create a wealthy, powerful class whose entry is controlled by government force. This is why billionaires are socialists. Not because they believe in sharing the wealth, but because they want to take wealth from the competition and use government force to keep them down. Gates, soros, steyer, buffet. All the same.

Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at November 27, 2016 01:22 PM (dnWSK)

28 And don't forget that your very life and dignity mean nothing to a socialist. Fruits of socialism: promiscuity, abortion, broken families that the state presumed to replace, euthanasia, rule by force not consent, personality cult, poverty of every sort.

Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Ho, Che, Castro.

Exactly. It was capitalism that created a prosperous, independent middle class. Almost every society in history was made up of a tiny hereditary ruling class, and masses of dirt-poor peasants. The so-called "progressives" want to return to that state. The ruling class hates the middle class, because we don't need them.

I think it's important to deprecate the entire line of work. First by, e.g., saying "You lie like a journalist."

Second, by not otherwise using the term "journalist," which makes them sound like professionals. Use the term "reporters," which is redolent of the imagery of "Front Page" with working stiffs wearing battered fedoras while banging away on typewriters, a cigarette hanging out of their mouths. Lets reflect a bit more on that. Trump's business practices are sometimes called into question. John Ekdahl couldn't stand him. Yet who is worse? A capitalist, who you don't like, who you can ultimately a) avoid b) sue. Or a totalitarian fuck like Castro or Clinton or Obama, who is every bit as rapacious and greedy as the worst caricature of a capitalist, but who who is backed by the coercive power of the state, so that they can hound, persecute, imprison, or (in the case of Castro) kill you?

It's a question of realizing you can't create utopia through fiat, because humans are corrupt creatures. Calvin was right. So we are left with figuring out the best system to limit the amount of damage corrupt people can do. A powerful central government is just the opposite of that.

123 Socialism is a polite word the MFM came up with for communism. The real definition was written by Marx. And what the MM calls socialism is really communism.

Cuba is NOT socialism, it is hardcore communism.

Sweden was more of a socialist country. It has a small uniform country with a small uniform population. Lots o' free shit along with lots o' high taxes.

But it fell apart right quick. That uniform population started falling apart as soon as the lazy lame and looters figured out they could get just as much by not working as they did by working.

And then the ultimate happened. The cockroaches from the middle east saw the open food dishes and the hawt blonds so they crawled out of thre woodwork and flooded the country

At that point even the millions pulled in by Abba and taxed to death can't help.

We need to be precise in our language. ALL men/women are not equal by any stretch of imagination; they're considered equal before the law,* but that's it.

Similarly, self-evidently, not everyone is capable of succeeding. They're considered capable of having a chance to succeed, but again, that's it.

Winners gonna win, losers gonna lose.

To be imprecise in language invites idiots to bleat about "inequality." Equality outside of the legal realm ends at conception. That some people fail is an immutable fact of life, but without failure, there is also no success. Not everyone gets a trophy just for participating. You get a trophy when you win. Period.

* Or used to be. Nowadays, not so much.

Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at November 27, 2016 02:02 PM (SRKgf)

127 Well so far, there's never been a truly communist society. The pattern according to Marx is supposed to go like this:

1) Revolution -- the people rise up and overthrow oppressive rich and powerful
2) Socialism -- the people select leaders who control industry and society, reeducating and rebuilding the nation for a new generation of enlightened people
3) Communism -- the leadership is no longer needed as a new generation of enlightened people share freely among each other and work according to the needs of the greater good.

Step 3 is never reached, not only because the leaders in step 2 never want to give up power and wealth, but because human beings are innately sinful and corrupt, and cannot live in a stage 3 society.

Marx presumed the stupidity every leftist claims, that people are bad because of bad influences and learning. That if you get rid of those bad influences and reeducate people all will be wonderful.

But that's not just infatile, it makes no sense. If that were the case nobody would ever have been bad to begin with. Where would the bad influences and people come from, if its always external?

The problems with people come from within.

My understanding is that that statement should be made in the past tense; kibbutzes used to be as close to communism as it was possible to get, but (again, as I understand) the surviving ones are more or less just agricultural villages stripped of the communist ideology. The separate barracks for men, for women, and for children? Gone. Cottages for each family. The handing out of clean clothes from a central laundry? Gone.

The long-term problem with their survival? The original crew self-selected for the experiment. Their kids ... not so much.

139 Ant colonies. For pesticide license "continuing education" credits, I've had to listen to lectures, many quite interesting, on fire ants and their behavior by Clemson entomologists.

They are the Borg. The individual ant is nothing -- well, there's a queen, who is a big deal. Killing fire ants is a bitch. They have a sense of "smell" such as it is (ability to detect molecules that don't belong) that is to a dog as a dog is to us. And they have a long food chain up to the queen. A food source will pass through a long line of "tasters" before it gets to the queen. And they know exactly which line which food source went through.

If there's anything funny happens, bam, that whole line gets thrown out of the colony, and killed if need be. This makes it extremely difficult to get a poison in there. They've succeeded, but it wasn't easy.

A colony is really an organism of itself. The individual ants are sort of like cells in a multicellular organism, like us. We are the Borg from the POV of our individual cells.

Human beings aren't cells are ants. I don't think the Borg model really works for autonomous individuals of any kind.

Yep. It's easy to theorize, but when your decisions actually get implemented, theory goes out the window. As I used to say, "In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is."

And pushing the countries they lived in toward communism was, I suspect, one of the major drivers of anti-Semitism. Compare and contrast Muslim immigrants trying to push us toward sharia with, say, Sikhs, or whatever. No one has a problem with the latter. They come, they live, they mind their own business. They don't step off the boat and want everyone else to accommodate them.

156 >>The whole point of this is to make these 3 States miss the deadline for the Electoral College thus making their votes not count...

I disagree. The whole point is to further delegitimize Trump and they will continue to do this for the next 4 years.

In order for Stein to get a recount in PA, she is going to have to find a county where there is some evidence of voter fraud and the county is willing to push the issue and then find a judge who will agree and order a complete recount. And they need to do this by tomorrow.

So far, nobody has shown any evidence whatsoever of voter fraud in PA. Just left wing activists who claim that the voting didn't line up with polling and exit polling.

Seems pretty unlikely to me.

171 You would think that harassing electors would be a felony or something in all 50 states. The state of Georgia (whatever office is concerned with this) put out a statement decrying the harassment of their electors, saying this is wrong, so stop.

I think if I started harassing local prosecutors or police about the exercise of their duties, I'd be in a wee bit of trouble.

It was even worse for my nephew, who was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum (high-functioning). His local school district couldn't figure out what to do with him, because he wouldn't conform to the box in which they attempted to fit all their students. He's very intelligent, but was bored with the curriculum. He quit school, with his mom's blessing, a couple of years ago and got a GED. When my Son was 8, his teacher could not get him to write stories for her.... so said he had a learning disability.

Learning plans... school psychologist got involved... and they wanted to put him on medication...

On his break between years (Denver had year round school)... he wrote a Story about a Rat and a Skateboard...

First of the year... I'm in with the Vice Principal and School Psych again... showed them the story... and they STILL wanted to put him on meds...

I walked out talking Lawyers...

His next teacher could not figure out why all this had happened, as SHE had no problems with him...

Oh.... and my Son is a now a Card Carrying Genius... Navy Veteran... MENSA Member... and is back in College with a 4.0 grade point average..

But back in the day, "reporters" actually did "report". Who, what, when, where, and why. The political spin was the purview of editors and publishers. Now, they all just make shit up. The old way was better.
-----------------

Did you read the Deadline Hollywood article last week? It was the one by a guy who'd worked for both the LA Times, and the New York Times.

He apparently worked for the LA Times first, and mentioned that at that newspaper, the reporters were the primary drivers of the stories. They found the stories, wrote them up, and passed them along to their editors.

At the New York Times, it's all about narrative. The various departments at the times will each construct a narrative for their department, sometimes over a year in advance. And then any facts reported will be adapted to that narrative, no matter how much pretzel-making is required to get those facts to fit.

Yeah, about that...
My daughter wanted to homeschool my granddaughter. The homeschooers in her town didn't exactly welcome her with open arms because she doesn't fit the mold there.

It's sad, because morally, they would agree on a lot, but that group didn't want her because of her tattoos, and that she, sometimes, dyes her hair in bright colors. The biggest thing is that Daughter is agnostic, and the homeschoolers there are quite churchy (I didn't use "Christian" for a reason).

I don't want my granddaughter in public schools, even in small-town Texas, but I understand her frustration in trying to homeschool with no support system whatsover.

242 Captain Whitebread, my eldest daughter is super intelligent, but also quite lazy. For her third grade year, I tried to get her into a school for gifted kids, but she didn't want to go. She informed me (many years later) that she deliberately got a few questions wrong on the IQ test given, so that she wouldn't qualify to get into the school. Homeschooling both of my daughters was like pulling teeth, no matter how I tried to craft a curricula to interest them. Honestly, Mr. BTEG tells me that without a wife and daughters to motivate him, he would slacked off in his own life, because he just didn't care. Don't give up on your nephew.

I never had to expend much effort to get good grades up until about halfway through high school, but then (and in college), I hit a brick wall because I never developed the study skills that were second nature drudgery to everyone else. I suppose it was kind of a participation trophy thing.

My high school had Honors classes, which is where I generally spent my time. At one point I got bounced out of Honors English (can't remember why, but iirc it was something stupid), and spent a little time in a regular English course. The teacher was actually pretty good, though we gave her a lot of grief.

The class loved me, though. The teacher would spend a lot of the class time with someone in the class reading the latest assigned book out loud (probably because the teacher guessed that most of the students wouldn't do assigned reading as homework). Whenever we started to get behind in the reading schedule, I was always picked as the designated reader. We *always* got back on schedule whenever that happened, no matter how far behind we were.

That won't help this time of course.

Can you imagine that today???

I hit a brick wall because I never developed the study skills that were second nature drudgery to everyone else.

That's my sophomore/junior time in college, right there. I still crawled out with a GPA 0.01 above the line for Magna, due to coasting through the first 3 or 4 semesters. Getting that baseline of calculus-based math/science that leads into engineering classes is easy. Engineering classes themselves are less easy...

We had all odds against us. A DNC chair that resigned in shame do to the stolen primary from Sanders, and an all but murderous "news media" who are witness domestic terrorism (their riots) and said ZERO.

Now we have some bloody recount BULLSHIT because some rich skank who sucked SO terribly she didn't even garner 2% of the vote kicking up shit and further derailing democracy.

The left are playing for blood now.

Poorly worded State laws. In SC a recount is automatically mandated if a "final" election has less than a 1%+ win. But no candidate may demand one on any other basis. On primaries there is no "recount". Here if no candidate gets more than 50.0% there is a runoff between the top two candidates. You can pull some maneuvers with that too with fake candidates in the mix but it is tough.

----------------

It's the law in many (if not most) states.

In most states, if the vote is within a certain margin, then the state recounts automatically. If the vote is not within the margin, but a candidate still suspects chicanery, then they can finance the recount themselves.

The idea is that the recount is expensive enough that it's not going to happen unless you're convinced that the recount will reveal that you actually won. The problem here is that Stein's not really paying for it herself. She's (officially, at any rate) crowdfunding it, and doesn't have to pay a dime of her own money.

You need to have a law that allows this as otherwise you could have a situation with blatant fraud that pushes the results above the automatic recount margin, and the losing candidate would be stuck with the result.

The point of socialism is to create a wealthy, powerful class whose entry is controlled by government force. This is why billionaires are socialists. The difference is that with those communities 1) participation is voluntary, not forced (although I'm sure in other eras there was compulsion for some) and 2) there is a shared, commonly honored moral superstructure to keep an Animal Farm scenario from happening.

I'm curious to what extent these also apply to kibbitzum.

And then Harbough was run out of there....

And if they find ballot stuffing on part of the Dems, will they announce it or just claim statistical errors?

I would love it if Hillary goes down because Anthony Weiner surfed porn on a laptop Huma was hoarding Hillary's classified material on, and voter ID laws get ushered in because Hillary pushed a recount that discovered fraud.

I mean, recounts as a general idea are great if the vote is close, or if there is suspected fraud. But this just is weird, and do we know what happens if they don't get done in time (which they won't) for the meeting of the Electoral College? Because then Trump won't have the 270 he needs, right?

I've seen so many differing accounts, it's hard to know what's true or not. I think I saw that MI and PA have to have a verifiable suspicion of fraud, and that the candidate asking for the recount be within a certain margin of winning. Which would leave Stein out but not Hillary. I don't know if there is fraud they can point to either. If the votes aren't certified by the Big Day, I have read that certain states can send their Electors anyway if it's reasonable to assume the votes won't change.

I don't know if any of the above is true. Ha!

Hadn't thought of that.

Out of curiosity, if those states weren't included in the Electoral College totals, would Hillary have more EC votes? That still wouldn't get her the presidency (you need to have more than 50% of the total available votes, after all), but it would be enough to de-legitimize the process in the eyes of some people despite the fact that it was entirely due to Stein's shenanigans.

452 >>>>@381 Because then Trump won't have the 270 he needs, right?

----------------------

Hmm...

Hadn't thought of that.

Out of curiosity, if those states weren't included in the Electoral
College totals, would Hillary have more EC votes? That still wouldn't
get her the presidency (you need to have more than 50% of the total
available votes, after all), but it would be enough to de-legitimize the
process in the eyes of some people despite the fact that it was
entirely due to Stein's shenanigans.
.
.
.
.None of this makes any difference whatsoever. The left is trying to delegitimize the Trump win. It's all B$ even if they toss Wisconsin to hillary because she still won't win. She needs to sweep all three States to win and that is not going to happen.

As noted above if no candidate is at 270 or better the House decides the election. That is what I think they are trying to make happen. I mean Trump won PA by over 70,000 votes, that's way outside the margin of fraud and error so that State is not going to flip.

Disclaimer: If that did somehow manage to happen it would be Civil War 2.0

And didn't they do the same thing in Wisconsin? Wait until the last possible day to file for the recount?

Afterall if the goal is to make it go as long as possible and cause havoc around the electoral college vote you want to wait until the last moment.

Because they would love to shout and cry about the electoral college voting while "Recounts are still going on!"

the Electoral College vote would the election then go to the House?

So far only WI has said there would be a recount.

Got interrupted by damn neighbor wanting a ride to get cigarettes because she has already had a jar of my liquor and didn't get cigarettes first. So here is what I found

Michigan - 10

Pennsylvania - 20

Wisconsin - 16

Total 46

Total Electoral votes - 538, 270 needed to win Trump has 306 306 - 46 = 266 Scank has 232. 232 + 46 = 278. So if she somehow manages to take ALL 3 States yes, she wins. But there would have to be some powerful cheating to take all three. Not very likely.

The EV's will be counted even if the recounts keep going and going and going.

There will be have to be a law in place by Dec 13 or action by a Court by same date to stop EV's from being counted.

Again the Federal law where it is spelled out.

* as an ethnic Spaniard, Castro had little use for other races of Cubans.
* he stole from poor and gave to the rich
* he began as a charismatic nationalist and became a military dictator
* he sent his goon squads into the neighborhoods to round up undesirables
* he silenced the critical press
* he built a prison wall around his nation

In short, he actually DID all the horrible things the Left accuses Donald Trump of doing--yet they worship Fidel and hate the Donald!

Posted by: The Gipper Lives at November 27, 2016 08:09 PM (Ndje9)

506 I don't doubt that this is an attempt to delegitimize Trump's victory and maybe have a tiny chance of somehow reversing it, but it seems to me there's another side. This is also part of a longer-term plan to delegitimize the Electoral College. If they can't delay all three states long enough to prevent an Electoral College victory for Trump, they may be able to disenfranchise one or two states, so the EC map has a couple of blanks - neither red nor blue - and the total Electoral Vote adds up to something less than 538. The residents of the disenfranchised states would be really pissed, and the Dems could then try to push through an accelerated Constitutional amendment to abolish the EC and go to direct popular elections in 2020. If it passed, they could stuff ballot boxes in all 50 states, and any half-way close election would have an aftermath like Bush-Gore times 1000 - not just 4 counties in one state, but every county in every state would have Democratics poking chads and finding ballot boxes in their trunks for weeks after the polls closed. Diabolical, but plausible.
