h/t Legally Sufficient

Just goes to show you cats are cheap. Even rescue dogs cost more than a $20

Hi, welcome to the AoS Pet Thread. Did your pets need a safe space this past week? Your furniture doesn't count.

A Little of This. A Little of That.

Meet The PetMorons

zz vitigator.jpg

Our first submission this week is from Vitigator. Here's the story of these critters.
"I've always been a dog person and my husband loves cats but is allergic to them, but we just adopted (hired) these brothers for rodent patrol on our farm. They're just a few months old but already have learned the ropes and are putting a dent in our mouse and ground squirrel population... They sleep on the deck most of the day and wreak havoc at night. Kyle is the black and white and Stan is the tabby. They are super friendly and love to play, but the little piles of gore around the place bear witness to their nighttime activities..."

Desmondo.jpg

Long time lurker Desmondo shared this photo with us. Meet Snowball.
"If it was Sunday, Snoball got to go drinking with Dad. Best wingman ever. Pic taken at Siesta Key Oyster Bar."

zz roberta.jpg

Quite the trio!! No need to ask for consideration. They are adorable. How in the world did you get them to pose?
"Wanted to add my submission for your consideration. This is my dachshund horde Axel, Schnitzel, and Hans.
And I am Zombie Dachshund"

zz duncan.jpg

Lurker Ron submitted this photo of Duncan.
"Duncan checking out my tomato plants in the greenhouse. Sadly we lost Duncan to Cushings Disease last spring."
So sorry to hear that Ron. Duncan was a handsome dog.

zz rabbit.jpg

We don't see many rabbits here. Mandy tells us the story.
"This is Biscuit, our family bunny. He lives in my son's room (hence the Star Wars bed sheets). The bunny is only about eight weeks old and still too young for his....junk to have descended so we're not actually sure if Biscuit is a he or she yet. Hopefully we will know pretty soon, but in the meantime I'm calling him a he and don't give a damn if he's "misgendered." 😉 And no, I didn't let him have my my coffee. He did seem to like how it smelled, though.
😄
Mandy P., lurking lurker who lurks"

zz dave.jpg

Dave's submission rounds out this week's PetMorons. Hats off to you for taking on these wonderful animals. They have a wonderful story to tell through Dave.
"Shown top to bottom.

We found Fargo abandoned across the street from us about six weeks ago. We have been nursing him back to health, and trying to flesh out his bones. We guess he is about 8 -10 years old.

Arden, we rescued 11 Years ago. We think she is about 13 years old.

Bailey walked up our driveway about 3 years ago. He is all hound, with a love of shoes."

That wraps it up for another week. What a fine group of animals. And thank you so much for sharing. If you have an animal related story, tip, video don't be shy. Send them in. Do you have a photo to share with us of your pet? Please submit that to us. We can be reached at petmorons@gmail.com

Our Jack of Spades caught a mouse this week. In the garage, I think. Winter is coming.

4 Though the cat passing the cash looks like Cinnamon, its her sister light grey and white Sugar who is still being antisocial. I do try to fake her out at dinner time as they eat side by side usually so its a instinct to go for the bowl, but not long into it she starts eyeing her sister then runs away before she is done.

The brother cats with their arms around each other. Oh my, too sweet. I didn't know cats had it in them.

And the doggies lined up in a row . . . amazing. And as MisHum said, adorable.

Thanks, MH, for all your work here.

I am loving all the lurker moronimals. What a great looking bunch. And I think I recognize two lurker names from quite a while back - jump back in. Please.

13 I'm sorry to hear about Duncan -what a beautiful animal. Sorry for your loss, Ron.

What a fine group of mo-pets this week. A bunny! Biscuit is so cute. My son would love a bunny, but we have a kitteh and I'm leery of what I'd be getting into. I understand that they use a litter box like cats.

Also... is an American bulldog a pitbull? Is that the "real" name for them?

15 My dog loves cheese. It's one of her top three favorite words. But we have a routine when we get back from walkies and I am removing her equippage. She sits while I take off hat and cookie bag and coat and then I take off leash/harness and collar. She waits nicely while I look at her and wonder why she's still sitting there and then I remember she gets a cookie. This is an every day, twice a day thing, so you would think I'm Hillary Clinton but I'm nowhere near that mean. Sophie ALWAYS waits for her cookie. Always. So yesterday, I am just thinking out loud and I said something about slicing up some cheese for dinner and without getting a cookie, she was off like a shot to the spot where she sits and waits while I slice the cheese. She actually gave up a piece of food. She could have had both, but nothing beats Tillamook sharp cheddar.

20 Awww. Love the darling moronimals. As I posted a couple of weeks ago, we had to put Hoplite Housedog to sleep. The outpouring of support from the horde for a mostly-lurker was very comforting and I thank you for that. We've sworn off getting a new pet (or 2) until the Spring, but I keep surfing Petfinder.com looking at doggies. Must. Resist. Cute. Furry. Faces.

28 26, I interviewed two dogs at the shelter when I got Sophie. I didn't realize I should have taken cookies with me so my test was to see if the dog would follow my hand up, causing butt to go down and then hold that sit for even a second. Sophie passed and it turns out she is SMART. I would opt for brains over anything else although I fully sympathize with your fondness for floof.

I do not have any pets but I have a pet-like story for the week. Yesterday after raking leaves for 2 1/2 hours, I got on my hands and knees to pulls some weeds. There before me, about 4 feet away was the tiniest snake I've ever seen.
It was the circumference and length of a pencil. When he saw me he hissed at me and lunged, moving him forward about 3 inches. Still, he scared me because, guess what, I am a scaredy-cat.

Friend recently lost a dog and was musing that she was not sure when/if she would stop missing him. Told her our first dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge over 20 years ago and I still miss her to this day. Pets are special gifts from God. No accident that "dog" is "God" spelled backward.

No, you don't.

I was at a PetSmart several years ago on an "Adoption Saturday". Lined up in the store were retired race-track greyhounds. There must have been about fifteen of them. They were so well behaved it was a sight to behold. So quiet and dignified. They are supposedly, and I think you've mentioned it before, not the most brilliant of breeds. But these guys, I've got to tell you were something special.

57 We did something silly today.. To be fair, I started it by going to PetSmart "just to look". However, a rescue shelter was trying to adopt out some Lab/Australian Shepherd mix puppies... So, I called my wife so she could talk me out of it. She not only failed to do so, she said, "how cute - let's take one home!" So, we now have a puppy to add to our two dogs and a cat - even after we had agreed we were going to stop adopting...
On the other hand, we have had up to 5 dogs and 7 cats at one time. so we are slowing down a bit...:-)

64 I love the Pet Thread!

Living out in the country, having cats is a big advantage.
No mice, no rats, and no snakes.

Yeah, cats are terrors on snakes.

I remember one time when I was a lot younger visiting my Grandma in the mountains of AZ, she had a lot of cats to keep the snakes away, we were chatting away when I kept seeing movement out to corner of my eye in her veggie garden. I finally looked out the window and saw a black kitten jump up above the peas, then I would see a white kitten jump up. Being a curious monkey that I am, I went to check it out. When I came around the line of peas, I saw those 2 little kittens pouncing on and beating the shit out of a 6 ft Timber Rattler. That poor snake didn't have a chance, 1 kitten would ponce on its head, then jump away, and when the snake would turn in that one's direction, the other kitten would pounce in its head. Rinse and repeat. After about 10 minutes of this, they finally were able to tear it open, and I took a hoe to its head and buried it (don't want to leave the head around, because they still have venom in it and will bite).

Don't fuck with a cat.

I'm so late to the thread and I see my bunny made it!

Woot!

Gem, we've litter trained Biscuit. I picked up one of those disposable litter trays that is the cardboard feeling stuff with baking soda in it. Then we put in some rough shredded paper bedding and that's what he goes in. It's really nice because it allows us to leave him out of his cage pretty much all day. I out up a baby gate at the door of my son's rooms and we've got anything he could hurt hurt himself on our of the way and he runs around there most of the day, then goes back into his cage and naps when he's had enough. Aside from changing litter and cleaning out his cage regularly, he's actually really clean, too. Grooms himself just like a cat so there is no bathing involved.

He's super gentle and has taken to the kids very well. We are really enjoying having him around.

68 Many years ago a friend found a Siamese kitten(Bowser) in a parking lot and brought him to us. He was probably 10 weeks at the time. There were several barn kitties at the time and he moved in no problem. A short time later another friend found a long haired orange kitty(Pico) in her front yard. Once again we became the home. After every meal Pico would always grab Bowser and wash his face until she felt he was clean enough. This lasted their entire life times.

69 I'll try to get pics that I can send your way, Elle - though we don't have a pic of the big herd from earlier days, just a collection of non-digital pics of the various pets. As for the actual breed, the mom of the puppies was also there - an Australian Shepherd. Since the pup looks like a Lab with slightly shaggy hair, I think the rescue was right on this one.

On the other hand, I have a dog that another rescue said was a Lab/terrier mix - and the little booger acts/looks just about full terrier, so.... Luckily the top dog is a pure Lab so we aren't going full on crazy...:-)

71 Hey, I need some help. Scrappy, my not quite 2 year old pointer, is terrorizing Moose, my wife's 10 year old 12 pounder. It started out as rough housing, now she will kind of bark threateningly if Moose gets too close to Scrappy's bed or rawhide or whatever.. Moose is trying to avoid her, but that is not the answer. Scrappy was not socialized very well before I got her and she is kind of dominant and possessive.

Any ideas on having them get along better?
