It's Time To Meet The PetMorons ![]() Thanks for sharing. ![]() This is what he has to say about this neat photo. "Our two shepherds, Strider and Sasha. My wife Beth took the picture. She got lucky getting them both to tilt their heads at exactly the same time. She's tried several times since, but no luck." Pretty cool photo. ![]() Thanks for sharing Rihar, the infrequent commenter. Looks like he can kick butt too we might add. ![]() "This is Tyler - some type of poodle-mix pup we rescued just barely 2 years ago. Oh my, he is the happiest, silliest, bounciest and cuddliest dog we have ever had - he has stolen our hearts. So glad we decided to rescue instead of going to a breeder." He certainly looks like a happy dog. Wrapping up the PetMorons today is Lurker Lisa. She submitted the following 2 photos of her kitten, Flynn and her dogs Boomer and Tucker. ![]() ![]() Thank you for stopping by today. And thank you for the submissions. A fine looking group of animals. If you have a tip, news item, or a photo of a pet. Please contact us at petmorons@gmail.com Have a great week. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Love the people thotos.
Well my cats are not getting along, actually Sugar is afraid to be in the same room or in sight of Cinnamon. They are sisters and have had them for 16 years and since they were very young kittens. We have to have Sugar in one side of the basement that she likes to be on (she often sleeps on the dryer or heater). It can be months till we get them together. Last time I slowly got them eating together, my wife will try to get them playing so as to be distracted about the other. This is the 4th time this has happened and we are not sure what sets it off. I would be interested if Ponytail rescued Tyler anywhere in the Arizona area? He is the spitting image of the doggie my mom rescued a couple of years ago when she still lived near Tucson. Her dog was one of a group, presumably from the same litter, found abandoned or lost it the desert.

Posted by: L, Elle at November 05, 2016 02:50 PM (6IPEM) ======================================== Your comment made me think. Have I ever had a cat or dog that bi people? I can't recall any. Over my lifetime I must have had about 50 cats and at least a dozen dogs. Oh wait - yes, one time when we lived on Long Island we adopted a mutt from North Shore Animal League. Our daughter was about two or three. That dog nipped at her more than once. We ended up returning him. We went dog-less for a few years till she got older. She was quite tiny - maybe he thought she was a rabbit. Posted by: grammie winger - Fly the W at November 05, 2016 02:56 PM (bpfzP) 23

Glad to see Charlie the Sheltie has a lifejacket and a protective netting. We almost lost our Sheltie Jodie many years ago because we thought she was clever enough not to jump out of the boat on a nice calm day. I went down into the cabin for a moment, and then heard a splash! Came back on deck to see Jodie floating slowly away, paddling like crazy but losing "ground". Yes she had on a life jacket, and it had a sturdy pickup loop on the back so she could be grabbed by a boathook, which she was as soon as we jibed and sailed back to her! She wore a short leash/lifeline after that.
One time we had elderly relatives along for a day-sail, and as the weather piped up a bit we invited them to adjourn to the "salon" below-decks. Jodie clearly want to go along too, and she was a great comfort in what was a very disconcerting situation for them! They were all very happy to snuggle with Jodie down there while the young folks sailed the boat back home, getting soaked and sunburnt in the process too. I've only been bitten by 2 dogs, because times as an adult. One was a corgi. They're cute but not all that nice a dog. The other was a meth lab. Both were very poorly trained and the dominant ones in the relationship with their owners. My Dane doesn't bite me. She does do this weird thing though. She wraps her scary large jaws around my wrist or hand and just keeps it there without biting down. It seems to comfort her. Maybe it's a trust thing for her. MisHum says one of his Setters does the same thing. Our dogs have the exact same personality too. They're getting married one day when mine grows up.

Some dogs can be VERY, VERY territorial about their food bowls. We feed ours about ten feet apart. They were raised from puppies together, yet the big guy still wants to stick his nose in the little girl's bowl, and she will do her best wolverine impression to chase him out. Like any good marriage, he shrugs and walks away. Posted by: JEM at November 05, 2016 03:12 PM (TppKb) 35
I did get badly bit, requiring stitches, from a huge overweight black lab once. I was cleaning his teeth and for some reason the anasthesia levels weren't right, and he started to come out of it. Down went his chompers and off I went to the ER. I didn't hold it against him of course, but his owner really ticked me off. The vet informed her what had happened, and my hand was bandaged for a few days. She came in twice for medication during that time, and never said Boo to me. Like, "How's your hand?" or something.

Appreciate anyone putting a good thought for me in adopting a dog hat can be a potentially great match. It's currently being fostered by a whacko gatekeeping rescue group high on pot, Hillary and the belief that dogs are superior to humans. I have to put in an application, references and endure a home check along with an interview, so I'll need to hide all my Trump swag and maybe put out a mural of Obama so I don't trigger the interviewer.

Ponytail: your Tyler looks (and acts) a lot like our Merle. We had to put down our beloved and elderly Scooter (black mini-poodle) this summer. However, we quickly found a white toy poodle (mix?) to replace him. A 2-year-old, and a rescue. He has quickly found his way into our hearts. The only difference between the yours and ours is that ours has an obvious strip of apricot down his back.

Wife's Aussie Heeler had 4 puppies about a month ago. Yesterday I went out to car headed for work and the young'uns were out of the pen running around having a good time.
I did not want them following me and getting out on the road so I started walking towards them to herd them back to the pen. Next thing I know I've got a Heeler chewing on each pant leg and I have to drag them back to the pen cause they won't let go. I think they were laughing at me as I walked off. I had the dogs to the park early and Smokey was doing his obligatory sniffing the perimeter when a big shepherd came up to him and spit his ball out in front of Smokey. Smokey sniffed it and the shepherd went for him. Smokey didn't know what was going on, he doesn't like tennis balls, and was going to tear the shepherd up. We pulled the dogs apart and the owners just laughed and said the dog does that all the time, dares other dogs to touch the ball. I told them it was a good thing I keep close to my dogs because it could have been just hair, teeth and eyes flying. My other dog wanted to finish it right there so we left. Some dog owners are incredibly stupid.

Tonight we are making a final visit to Doggie Disneyland, aka K9 Fun Zone. They lost their lease due to Seattle's insane real estate market because Fremont desperately needs more condos or apartments. I'm sure the owner will find a new space - I just hope it's reasonably nearby, although I will drive quite a way to take Sophie there. If I ask Sophie, "Do you want to go see Lindy?" who owns the FunZone, I get the cutest head tilt ever. "Lindy" is maybe her third-favorite word, first and second being "cheese" and "ride" although I could not tell you the order. Posted by: Tonestaple at November 05, 2016 03:32 PM (uAU0q) 52

WeaselDog has a couple of tricks - one is catching dry roasted peanuts that I toss to her. I asked the vet if it was OK and they said yes provided I didn't give her too many (and leaving the value of 'many' undefined). Guess I gave her too many, because she threw some of them up. Not sure if they don't digest well, or what. Posted by: Weasel at November 05, 2016 03:36 PM (Sfs6o) 55

Yeah, Peggy and grammie, some dog owners are really obtuse. Both times I got bit, the owners didn't even say sorry and just laughed it off like it was no big deal. Maybe they're embarrassed and don't know what to say or something, but a dog biting someone with no provocation is a really bad thing and the dog shouldn't be taken out in public until that behavior is corrected.

Posted by: Moki, deplorable mom and sammich maker at November 05, 2016 03:22 PM (VnCI9) We're a show household, but everyone gets fed the same whether they're a campaigned champion or a stay-at-home pet. A few years ago we were having problems with coat discoloration, especially around the feet. Someone recommended buttermilk to change their blood chemistry. So we pour a cup or two into the mixing pot along with canned meat and green beans. Everyone loves it and the coat problems soon cleared up. As for no dairy products, cheese at the show and an ice cream cone on the way home are the privileges show dogs get. Posted by: Kodos the Executioner at November 05, 2016 03:42 PM (J8/9G) 61

The cheese-canine thing bugs me. I have almost universally heard that dairy/lactose is bad for dogs, but I also know vets and trainers that say, usually with an "in moderation" caveat, it is OK. So all my dogs have had some cheese at one time or another but only as a treat, never a meal component, and none of them had any problems.

Kodos - that is really interesting, especially that it improves coat coloration. Condition, I can understand, because of the fats, but color?? You learn something new every day. You've probably said it before, but what breed do you show?
Biergood-we have weird dogs. We had one labrador who would stand in front of the oven, waiting for the timer to go off for Pillsbury Flaky Layer biscuits. Only those. And he would start shaking and crying when he saw me get the can out. The Newf loves fresh vegetables that have been steamed, and then sauteed in a little butter-no canned for him thank you. He also loves banana in little bitty pieces, sliced apple with peanut butter, and pears. But his most favoritest thing in the whole world is waffles. I don't know why. He would take a waffle over a piece of meat. Posted by: Moki, deplorable mom and sammich maker at November 05, 2016 03:49 PM (VnCI9) 65

What kind of cheese do you guys use? I'm not sure about the No dairy thing. The first dog food I used for mine was very high in protein and too rich for my puppy who has a sensitive stomach and kept throwing it up along with yucky diarrhea. My vet had me switch to homemade chicken and rice with plain yogurt mixed in to firm up her tummy while I transitioned to a bland mainstream dry dog food. She loved the yogurt and refused to eat her food a few times when I ran out of yogurt and just gave her plain chicken and rice. The only people food I give her is scrambled eggs once a week and I let her lick my plate clean as a semi treat too and save her the last bite of whatever I was eating. She literally parks herself in front of me and waits patiently for me to finish eating, drooling the whole time anticipating that last bite.

We give our dogs a tablespoon of plain yogurt in their night feeding along with some minced garlic. They love it. If we don't put it in, they just stand at their bowls and stare at us. My son was dogs sitting and forgot the garlic and yogurt and we got a call that the dogs were sick because they weren't eating. We reminded him of the dietary requirements and they were fine after that.

I've heard that onions are very bad for canines, but I've also heard that garlic is OK, they sure look like members of the same plant family to me. WebMD Pet section says http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/ss/slideshow-foods-your-dog-should-never-eat "Onions and Garlic Keep onions and garlic -- powdered, raw, cooked, or dehydrated -- away from your dog. They can kill his red blood cells, causing anemia. That's even the onion powder in some baby food. A rare small dose is probably OK. But eating a lot just once or can cause poisoning. Look for signs like weakness, vomiting, and breathing problems." Posted by: Hrothgar at November 05, 2016 04:08 PM (wCEn4) 76

I told our vet about their love of garlic and she said it was such a small amount not to worry. We gave our Dalmatians the same thing and they were fine too. I do keep onions away from our female. She thinks they're balls and wants to play with them.

75. Probably like a lot of things. Small doses of garlic can be medicinal, large doses will cause problems. I wouldn't give a dog onion, because I don't think it has any of the bug repellent and whatever else garlic has but does also have the anemia affect. *I will let the dogs have a bit of meatloaf or whatever with a bit of minced onion in it. If it was enough to hurt them I would be saving it as leftovers and not feeding to the dogs or cats as table scraps cuz I am pretty miserly.

The counter argument for garlic is presented in Dressler's "Dog Cancer Survival Guide" p 207 where he says that as a healthy addition to a good diet you can add fresh garlic cloves (peeled and minced) to add flavor AND pack the food with cancer-fighting immune-boosting properties. Note he does not mention onions but I've seen the onion canine toxicity referenced several other places. Posted by: Hrothgar at November 05, 2016 04:16 PM (wCEn4) 82

I love garlic and the kids aren't surprised that the dogs get garlic in their food. My daughter once told me I would put garlic in pancakes if I could.

It looks like Noodle is finally done shedding her summer coat, thank goodness. It was like a coat of hair appeared on her favorite couch every night. I also found a whisker on there the other day. Only the second one I've ever seen. But she's a pretty and glossy kitty again!

"life with cats" from tallinn, estonia, brings to mind the animated series "simon's cat". it's nearly an institution but the early ones are particularly charming and have a wonderful hand made quality. for those who are unfamiliar, check it out. "simon's cat".

54 ... Weasel, Our poodles all loved buttered popcorn and became adept at catching the kernels in the air. They also learned what the word meant and got excited when they heard it. We started spelling it to spare the yips and jumping around. (Yeah, we were trying to outsmart dogs.) That worked for two weeks until they figured out what spelling p-o-p-c-o-r-n meant.
The blind one obviously couldn't catch them in the air. But he could hear where they landed and homed in on the sound and smell. Laser guided missiles couldn't track as well as that dog. Posted by: JTB at November 05, 2016 04:46 PM (V+03K) 97

Yay! Tyler made the best thread ever, love this every weekend. Read all the comments and enjoy hearing of all the loved pets.
LochLomondFarms, indeed, Tyler also has an apricot streak down the middle of his back, as well as on his ears and tail. Happiest dog ever, he is! Grammie, we adopted him from a group in the north suburbs of Chicago - an awesome rescue group I will say. Yes, we had to fill out a form and had a home inspection, but they were eager for us to have him and were lovely people. Oh, how I love GSDs, Strider and Sasha are just gorgeous. Stace (and others), Don't know if this applies to dogs, but a family I knew had 5 children, all of them allergic to cow's milk. Turns out they had no trouble from goat milk and their parents started keeping goats for that reason. Turns out it was a nice sideline as there was a market for the excess milk.
Also, none of our dogs had a problem with milk and cheese was always a big treat. Maybe it varies by breed? Posted by: JTB at November 05, 2016 05:07 PM (V+03K) 105

I missed the Pet Thread this week, it seems. Out trying to make dog food money, y'know.
Great looking group of Moronimals, as usual. Charlie is adorable and brings back memories of Laddie, one of my first childhood pets. By the time Mom had to put him down, that sheltie had more prescription meds than Grandma. And Jackson loos lime he could use a little "hair 9f the dog that bit him" if you know what I mean. Does anyone here have cats that tolerate being in the proximity of a vacuum cleaner?
I've had six cats over the past 16 years; four run/ran for the hills when the Machine of Doom comes out. Two-- Princess, who left me in 2010-- and Coco, who can't get enough grooming and cuddling-- didn't/don't mind the vacuum cleaner at all. Princess, in fact, used to sit on my bed and calmly watch me vacuum the carpet. Coco prefers the cat tree in the kitchen for her supervision. I think both of them just enjoyed watching the human work, the lazy little critters (but of course I love them anyway). Posted by: Caligula at November 05, 2016 05:40 PM (3C9q2) 108
Looks like I missed the Pet Thread again this week. Boo...
Always busy running errands and such on Saturday. Good to see all the happy pets and kind human comments. Thanks to all of you who several weeks ago recommended the larger scissor style nail trimmers for our bulldog-mix, Monk. Much quicker and sure-handling than the slider type. Better for all involved. . Posted by: Love hertz at November 05, 2016 05:47 PM (no0Da) 109
On the other hand my dog as a kid/teenager a German Shepherd Brutus loved to have the vacume ran over him.

I'm just going to mention this. There have been people on this thread that have been trying to go through different organizations to get a dog but are put off by the intrusive grilling. I am too. If you are willing to take a pound dog that suits your needs , let me know. I have a contact with a local shelter and if they have a dog/cat that suits you I will see that you get that pet. I have had 8 rescues and won't hesitate to help anyone that wants one. That darling face doesn't need a lot of red tape instead of a home.

Note: if you vet recommends seeing a vet cardiologist, start saving your cash.
/just a warning... Posted by: shibumi ............. Yup.. a one-time look by the cardiologist was $800. It would have been more, but our vet had already done x-rays and provided them to the cardiologist. Vet plus cardiologist has been close to $2000 bucks over 5 months. However, the right course of drugs for an enlarged heart and lots of fluid retention has really made a difference in her health. Our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is my wife's baby and snuggle buddy. She was devastated to think she wouldn't last much longer.. she's only ten. But we now hope she can live for a few more years.. fingers crossed.
