You will find few people who know as little about baseball as me. I am almost painfully apathetic about it, which is hard to do in New England. I admit that in years past I'd be watching news coverage of New England sports to catch info about the Patriots and I'd see plenty of Red Sox talk as a result. A few times I was caught off guard by seeing "KKK" in the stands.
"What the hell is that about?" I asked myself.
Finally one day I actually looked it up.
"Oh, it means 'strike.' So three Ks is three strikes. Okay, that makes sense."
End of story.
Now EVERY YEAR I see someone somewhere bring up this same thing, and every year they're informed, "It's just baseball shorthand for strike."
If it took li'l ole me the span of thirty seconds to Google "KKK baseball meaning", this "journalist" could have done it, too. That he didn't is just proof that he, like Stupid Bitch, didn't care about what it REALLY meant. He just wanted people to call him a smart and special snowflake for noticing three huge K's prominently displayed on television during the broadcast of an iconic world series game viewed by upwards of 40 million people. I'm now sort of fascinated by the 538 prediction forecasts - primarily because it seems to change every minute. In the past few days it has taken a big shift from Hillary to Trump (though she is still favored). Today, it appears that Trump has lost 0.01% points. I'm predicting by end of tomorrow, Hillary will be below 60% (she's currently at 65ish).

Interesting. My hypothesis is that men evolved to be highly visual (hello, titty bars!) and to track and chase moving/flying objects, much like golden retrievers are intrinsically fascinated by bouncing tennis balls.
I realized this once when the younger Guevara's school was shooting bottle rockets and I was helping them measure the distances. On seeing a bottle rocket fly overhead, I immediately tracked it and felt an instant urge to run it down and catch it, and had to fight to control that urge.
Of course, I played baseball up through college, and had been a wide receiver as well, so it may just have been force of habit.

It's good ol bareknuckle politics right now.
The Google modeling worked for the Latinos but not the blacks. The women angle initially got the women. The unstable angle got some college-educated guys.
However, Obamacare brought the R and some of the I women back (i.e., who gives a crap about "pussy" when my kids can't get to the doctor). The black swan email scandal redux took some of Hillary's R and I educated men away (who wants a constitutional crisis?).

The truth is likely in the middle: Trump +2.5-3.0, which fits the recent state polling that we are seeing as well as the candidate's movements.

It really is. When I was college punk, we used to laugh at geezers who characterized something as "un-American." We figured that everyone, everywhere, had pretty much the same values.
But once I lived overseas, I realized what they meant. Europeans do NOT have the same values. They have some of the same, but do not have some of the crucial ones. Free speech, for example, or the notion that the pie can get bigger. Europeans typically consider that the pie is fixed, and therefore someone who becomes wealthy does so to the direct detriment of someone else - a VERY un-American perspective.

I read a fascinating book about biologically rooted sex differences back in the early 90's, when such research was still permissible. (Sorry I don't remember the name of it.)
The thesis was that primitive man learned to aim and throw rocks or spears or whatever while hunting and of course being able to do it well might mean the difference between starving and having meat for the winter. So men are wired to be able to follow the trajectory of a moving object - be it a football or a bird or a bear coming your way better than women can.
I admit it - I suck at parallel parking unless I have a very generous space to fit my car into. I don't have well developed spatial ability and most men I know do.
However, women are better able to distinguish variations in color than men are and color-blindness is rare among women because when you're out there picking berries, you don't want to pick the ones that will poison you and your offspring.
I remember once, when I was wearing a black top and skirt, I remarked to a female coworker that it was irritating me because the black skirt didn't quite match the black top because they're different shades. She agreed. The man sitting there with us couldn't figure out what I meant. I said "look, they're not the same blacks." He was like, they look the same to me.

For me, the Fourth of July after my grandpa passed was one of those moments. He is an immigrant, and it was always a super important holiday to him, he ALWAYS went to see the local fireworks, even when he was in poor health. Watching the fireworks and hearing the music that year, missing him, I realized how much he loved America and how he had helped pass that love on to me. the sacrifices he'd made so I could enjoy this country's blessings. Was super humbled and blessed that fourth to be an American.

I recall being in Darwin, Australia on liberty. Several of us were still near the pier when colors went down. The Aussie gal I was with was amazed that we all snapped to attention and faced the colors (we were in civvies) and remarked that she found us fascinating because Australians weren't nearly as patriotic as Americans.

We would get these current events newspapers in elementary school and you would read and hear about other countries and get glimpses of how they lived, and much of it didn't sound so good. We talked about the Berlin Wall. We actually had a teacher ask us how we would feel if we had a wall down the center of town and couldn't see friends and family.
We would say the pledge at Cub Scout meetings, and the adults would unashamedly talk about how lucky we were to be Americans.
During summer vacation I would hang out at the community pool and wistfully check out the sophisticated 13 year old teenage girls, and wish I had a Corvette convertible. I knew that I had a Little League game that evening to play, and that after the game I would hang out with my Mom and Dad and watch the Phillies on TV and snack on watermelon or ice cream.
It just kind of dawned on me, how in spite of stuff like having to go back to school in a few weeks and do some chores, life couldn't be much more perfect and that I was really, really lucky.
