One more day to go before our fears are confirmed, that America as we knew it is gone permanently. In actuality we knew that in 2012 when Obama got re-elected. It was cemented for many of us in 2014 when our newly elected republican senate betrayed their election promises. But here we are again, ever hopeful that our fellow man won't vote for their team or for free stuff, but put the long term health of their country ahead of their own immediate wants. Temper your optimism with some realism this time folks. The Browns aren't winning the Super Bowl. The Washington Generals won't beat the Harlem Globetrotters. A candidate undermined by his own party and subverted by the press and pop culture isn't likely to win a popularity contest. Posted by: OneEyedJack at November 07, 2016 10:53 AM (kKHcp) 101

In the end it was repealed and voted on directly by the people. And if I
am not mistaken it is the only question ever approved directly by the voters. Well, it was the only one repealed by State Conventions rather than the State Legislatures, but close enough. Interestingly, I found out that Mississippi was the last state to repeal its own State-level prohibition law, in 1966! Posted by: Tex Lovera at November 07, 2016 11:17 AM (wtvvX) 193

Hillary's Bitter Tears 1 oz vodka (Use Tito's - it's from Texas*) 1 oz Campari 2 ozs blood orange juice 1 ounce grapefruit juice. 2 dashes of Angostura bitters Pour all ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker - using two hands, like you were wringer her hag neck, shake vigorously. Strain and serve in a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a grapefruit twist. This drink will be slightly bitter ~ but should be quite drinkable. I will experiment this weekend and let the Horde know how it goes. *Texas is a state that Hildery-Beast will NOT be winning. The Chinese have been building their artificial islands/military bases for years and projecting power deeper and deeper into the South China Sea. We have done nothing about it, not even token resistance. The Philippines even took China to court over their aggression into the area and China lost. By request... Hillary's Bitter Tears 1 oz vodka (Use Tito's - it's from Texas*) 1 oz Campari 2 ozs blood orange juice 1 ounce grapefruit juice. Few dashes of fresh lime juice 2 dashes of Angostura bitters Pour all ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker - using two hands, like you were wringing her hag neck, shake vigorously. Strain and serve in a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a grapefruit twist which should be a curlicue type, bitterly clinging to the lip of the glass. If a little too bitter for you ( you pajama boys know who you are) add a 1/2 oz of simple syrup This drink will be slightly bitter ~ but should be quite drinkable. I will experiment this weekend and let the Horde know how it goes. *Texas is a state that Hildery-Beast will NOT be winning. (h/t to Publius Redux) ___________________________________________ Thanks OM - tried this over the weekend and tweaked the recipe as above with a little lemon to make it a bit more sour and some extra instructions on the garnish - surprisingly drinkable - but yes - very bitter. For example, I was obligated to vote for GW Bush over Al Gore in 2000 because of life issues, partial-birth abortion specifically. But to this day I'm not certain that the Bush win was for the best in the long run. Anyway, I never pray for my candidate to win. I pray for justice, I pray for repentance, I pray for mercy. One way it would be nice to see the HQ further distinguish itself would be to move past the instantaneous (and not very observant) denunciation of certain commenters as "trolls". The South Bend guy comments here regularly, if not in great volume, and his anecdote is hardly implausible - obviously. There are all kinds of voters out there, many of them with "reasoning" for their votes which makes no sense (duh, look where we are as a country). People here find it implausible that an older lady, presumably dependent (like most) on the MSM, finds Trump unacceptably icky because of ickiness issues? Huh? Right. And there are also no Dem voters or others who are rejecting Trump because he's "racist" - an utterly absurd and brand new slander that, nonetheless, the lazy misinformed typical MSM consumer internalizes effortlessly. Whatever. Posted by: rhomboid at November 07, 2016 12:06 PM (QDnY+) 483

Why are these news people so convinced that Hispanics in Florida are going to vote the same as Hispanics in Arizona? Is it because they all look the same to them? Even the best pollsters struggle with the turnout model weightings they apply to the raw data - that's the art part, vs. the science - and historically the best screens are based on voter participation in recent elections. This is also the basis, still, for most direct voter contacts, GOTV, registration efforts. Even some fund-raising. I obviously don't have good figures at hand on this, but I'm gonna guess that a cohort of 25 effing % of voters in an election having NOT voted in the previous one is much, much, much higher than average. Not really an election issue. But those taking some kind of comfort from the idea that the current descent into govt-centric dependency and insolvency etc. is "unsustainable" should think again. Europe - with far less fumes/inertia/previously created wealth to live off of, has coasted for decades with far worse stuff than we are likely to have for some time. Plus 2008 illustrated just how much fairly "sustainable" irresponsible insanity and re-writing the rule-book can get you, financially speaking. The "burning times" are now. The problem was that Podesta, and others within WCEG, thought that their research would not be deemed credible to the extent it was viewed as an arm of the leftist Center for American Progress. So, just like Hillary, they came up with a plan to create a new WCEG with both a "public and private" image. Unfortunately, per a memo leaked by WikiLeaks, the WCEG's plan to be "fiercely independent" acknowledged they would still need support from the Center for American Progress provided that it "leaves no fingerprints." Can we do a Top Ten Things We Dont Want To Hear On Wednesday And Are Total Bullshit list? Posted by: Soothsayer at November 07, 2016 12:32 PM (rW4yT) Here's mine: 10. The system worked! 9. Women are the new black 8. The people chose stability (Hillary) revenge (Trump) 7. It was a change election (particularly bad if the Hag wins) 6. This result was predicted by (insert insane improbable mechanism here) 5. The Russians won (Trump)/Lost (Hillary) 4. Never mind, elections don't matter anyway 3. We were right all along even if we were wrong (MSM, if Hillary loses) 2. This result doesn't mean what you think it means, and here's why And the top thing I don't want to hear on Wednesday: 1. It's tied and there's a recount! Posted by: joncelli, Present at the Autopsy at November 07, 2016 12:38 PM (RD7QR) 686

Ernie, but no. Medicare already took a big hit under O-care ..... maybe we'll see some of it tomorrow, but I sense no grassroots rebellion.
Just really the most dramatic evidence of the electorate's degradation (perhaps, yes that's a field with lots of top competitors) - the Dems' staple slander (with electoral traction) for a generation was "Medi-scare". The utterly baseless slander that the GOP was going to push grandma off the cliff (while grabbing her wheelchair as she flew, to save $$$$). Meanwhile in reality both parties were competing to render Medicare insolvent by *adding* to it, not cutting it. First significant "cut" to Medicare (I believe in its entire history)? By the Dems. As a big part of their massively unpopular, stupid, unworkable "health care reform". As Maritime said, some hair-cuts here, some tax increases there, some benefit-cuts over there ..... very very little chance of any revolt, vs. a continued managed decline. ...I have basically seen no yard signs this election...
Probably Trump supporters decided to do handbrake turns in their own lawns, key their own cars, and spray paint "F U Nazi" on their own garage doors. You know, cut out the middle man. A few years ago, a local candidate had the same name as my son. I called his campaign and said that I kept/stole a sign after the election. He laughed and said 'you're welcome' and hoped that all my kidlets had fun in the election and that he had fun (he won that one).

Saw Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge and liked it. Story of WWII conscienteous objector who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroics as a medic on Okinawa. My only caution is that the battle scenes are graphic.
Lots of religious themes.
